Printer is no longer recognized.

After years of effortless wireless printing, I can no longer print. The System Preference settings are fine, specifying the printer as HP psc 1300 series. Mountain Lion tells me only that "PRINT SERVICE IS NOT AVAILABLE!" or "The printer is not connected."
The Console says:

I have tried everything except purchase a new printer. Is that what I have to do?

in addition to "drdocument" post, before you do anything allow me to ask you to unplug your printer wait 30 seconds and then power it back on then recycle (restart your mac) assuming you are wireless...I have had this scenario "printer not connected" occur from time to time when I am working in different partions (window then flip to mac and then back to mac) and magically i was able to print.
also, do a permission replair (applications - utilities - disk utility - click on mac hard drive - verify disk permissions - verify disk and then repair disk permission)
this is for safety only.
but some additional info may be helpfull especially the ML before and after install
if only one application cant print or all applications
did you unplug your printer and recycle your mac
did you check for a driver update or see if your printer is supported (relating back to the first point)
to me it seems that your printer is supported (please double check me) do the printer and computer on and off and try to print... if that doesnt work....down load the driver....install it....recycle the printer and computer again for safety and try to print.
my only concern would be if the printer cannot be detected on wifi and you delete the printer and attempt to install it and it cant be found..... also, im sure you have not replace your router.

Let's get that access granted again, e_rock_b. The HTC DNA doesn't have a special USB Mass Storage Mode that needs to be turned on. Usually, it's as simple as connecting and browsing http://vz.to/1jktbZD as you mentioned. If your computer is no longer allowing that easy access, try the steps at http://vz.to/1jktvr6.

Can't scan as my printer is no longer recognized when scanning

Between an overview and final scan, my printer disappeared from Image Capture and couldn't be found again. I could scan through Preview for a few weeks, then the same thing happened, again between an overview and final scan. I am still able to print to the printer from the computer, It just isn't recognized by the scanning applications. Is this a printer issue or a computer issue? If computer, can it be fixed?

I must suppose it is a multi function device and is hooked to your Mac with USB cable.
I had a similar problem a while ago. The printer was printing fine while the scanner wasn't able to work at all.
In my case replacing the USB cable with a good, not cheap, one, brought back the scanner functionality.

After security patch 03/04/2014 OSX 10.7.5, first one, then a second, external backup drive no longer recognized. Diagnostics for the FireWire one displays brand name of unit, but Time Machine and its own app don't see it. Where do I start?

Yesterday I installed the security patch, OSX 10.7.5 to my IMac that is about 2 years old.
Today my Seagate BackupPlus for Mac will power on but is not recognized. It does not show up as a device, Time Machine says the latest backup was DELAYED, last successful at 03/04/2014 9:35 PM (yesterday) and next backup would begin when the disk was connected. An error message I did not save said basically the drive was not recognized.   I did all drive's troubleshooting steps, including installing a newer version of their app. I tried swapping USB for FireWire, changing electrical outlets, etc.
It seems a bit coincidental to have 2 drives "fail" simultaneously. Is anyone else having this issue after this security patch? What would be the approach from the Mac side? TIA for any assistance.
Please see below regarding the second drive. Is this a red herring, or does it help pinpoint where the failure might lie?
I also have a Seagate GoFlex that WAS recognized until I did the troubleshooting on the other drive. When I put it back on after testing the other drive with FireWire, it now is no longer recognized.

Thirdly, in after one of the testing/reboot loops, the HP WiFi printer was no longer recognized, but after a few more it came back.

I have a similar problem.
Moreover, as my external drive is split in 2 for (a) regular storage // (b) time machine usage, I can see in the Finder that I can connect to the (a) regular storage part and use it normally (image 1).
And I cannot connect to the backup part in Finder , nor see it in Disk Utility, nor use it in Time Machine (although it's listed in the Time Machine preferences, image 2), as it does not connect (image 3).
Can somebody help?

After loading OSX 10.9.2, my printer is no longer recognized by my Mac. I have a Canon MG 7120 and it is connected wirelessly.

Try:
uninstall all printer manufacturer apps and "utilities"
go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners > Print
control-click on your printer in the column on the left
select "Reset Printing System..." and "reset" in the dialog that follows
do a factory reset on your printer. You'll have to consult the printer manual for how.
power down everything: modem, router, computer, and printer
power up each item in turn in the same order: modem, router, computer, and printer. Let each power up completely before moving on to the next
enter your wifi password in your printer so it can connect to the network
go back to printers & scanners and it should see your printer and download a driver for it from Apple (if there is one)
if that doesn't work there are a few options
look on the printer manufacturer's website for an updated driver
see if Gutenprint for Mac OS X has a driver
see if your printer will work with AirPrint or a generic driver. See: OS X Mountain Lion: If the software for your printer can’t be found (the reference says Mountain Lion but it still applies for Mavericks.)
go back to Mountain Lion

One original Intro cartridge no longer recognized by HP Officejet 6500a Plus printer

The original "Intro" Magenta cartridge in my HP 6500a Plus is no longer recognized by the printer.
The other "Intro" color cartridges (cyan and yellow) have a little ink left, and are recognized, along with a non-Intro HP black cartridge.
I didn't use this printer a lot. What would cause just one cartridge to no longer be recognized by the printer?
I can't use this printer at all now because of this. Not even for black-only printing... Not even for scanning!

More info: The Magenta cartridge has an expiry of 2013/08, and the other 2 color cartridges have an expiry of 2013/09.
Hmm.. are these cartridges designed to self-destruct about 6 months after expiry, even if they have some useable ink left in them?
In a month or so, will the other 2 quit being recognized as well?

I've done Solution one: Reset the printer.
Done Solution two: Remove, clean, and reinstall the printhead.
Done Solution three: Reset the product (looks like the first solution).
I'm going to but a new Magenta cartridge and see if the problem goes away..

I just discovered the Embedded Web Server on my E710n-z printer. Very cool!
But it shows conflicting information from what the LCD panel shows:
(it shows the printer head as damaged)
And here, it recognizes the Magenta cartridge as empty:

I suggest you backup you important data!
I suspect the harddrive is going bad.
Run disk utility. verify disk & verify permissions.
Run hardware diagnostics.
I not sure of a good way of telling if the harddrive is going bad. There is software to test harddrive. Don't know of free stuff for mac.
Considerng that the hd is 7 plus years old this isn't a surprise.
Suggest replacing hd.
If your not up to that, get an external hd.
You need an external Firewire drive to boot a PowerPC Mac computer [ a few G5's will boot from USB ].
I recommend you do a google search on any external harddrive you are looking at.
I bought a low cost external drive enclosure. When I started having trouble with it, I did a google search and found a lot of complaints about the drive enclosure. I ended up buying a new drive enclosure. On my second go around, I decided to buy a drive enclosure with a good history of working with Macs. The chip set seems to be the key ingredient. The Oxford line of chips seems to be good. I got the Oxford 911.

My HP 5610V all-in-one is no longer recognized by any pc as a working equipment.

My HP Officejet 5610v All-in-One is no longer recognized by any of my pc's. When I plug it in to another pc it says that the device is not recognized or malfunctioning. All the local or off line functions of the printer, such as copy and fax is working just fine, but it is no longer recognized by the pc as a printer or any functioning device. I change the printer cable already and setup the printer to the original factory settings but no change.

I have XP Pro in one of my laptops and Vista on the other. I really don't think this is a PC or operating system issue because both pc's used to recognize this printer but now both of them say that it is a malfunctioning equipment that is connected to the usb input and it is not recognized at all by the pc as to what type of equipment it is and they recognize other printers immediately.

Photosmart 7520 on wireless network no longer recognized by laptop

The printer was fully functional on my wireless network, accessible by phone, tablet & laptop. Now it is not recognized by the laptop but still usable by other devices through the wireless network. The laptop is Windows 7 professional. The laptop and printer are both on the same (only) wireless network. I uninstalled the printer and driver from the laptop, temporarily disabled Norton Antivirus, then tried to install a new driver but installation failed. I repeated the entire process again, with the same results. What else should I try?

The first one addresses the issue of the software not completing. The second, even though the title might not seem like an issue that you are having, addresses the issue of the printer not being recognized by USB.
Try those and let me know if either of them work. If they don't, get back to me with your version of Windows and I will see if I can find anything else to help you resolve your issue.

The title actually says it all..
(My 4th Generation click wheel 40 GB iPod is no longer recognized by iTunes 7.4.2, although the iPod works fine.. iTunes keeps saying to reset it, but I don't see why I should)
The iPod seems to work just fine, so I'm not in a big hurry to erase all my songs audio books etc..
I am thinking that this is a problem with Macintosh iTunes version 7.4.2, from what I'm seeing, but how should I proceed?

Sounds like a dead battery. Take it into your local Apple store/Genius bar and see if there is anything they can do for you. Another option is to send it in to a third party repair company who can replace the battery at a pretty low cost.

IPad no longer recognized by any computer after 4.2.1 update

Hi,
my iPad is no longer recognized by any computer after the 4.2.1 update. It does not show up in iTunes and this even in recovery mode. When connected to charger it does not show that it would charge (but it does). The iPad is still usable except in the iPod app is says "cancelling sync" and does not show any music.
I already reinstalled iTunes, reinstalled the Apple Mobile Device Service, used different computers with different OS version, but it does not show up, not even in the system profiler (USB tab).
Any idea what I should do? I mean it is quite unlikely that there is a hardware issue as the problems appeared right after the 4.2.1 update (from 4.2).

I guess a recovery could solve the problem, but how do it if the iPad does not even appear in iTunes. I guess it is somewhat stuck in "cancelling sync" and therefore will not accept an USB connection (the USB port behaves like it is deactivated).

Hi, I am experiencing a problem with my external WD eSATA harddisk. The setop box was recognizing it perfectly and I was recording programs with no problem. I had the exact same thing happen and you aren't going to like the answer/solution. One day my eSATA just disappeared, the DVR no longer recognized it. I unplugged, rebooted, reset, reconnectedetc. etc. and nothing. So I thought it was a DVR issue , after working with Verizon Customer Care Verizon sent me another 7232. I connected the eSATA to the new 7232, alas still nothing, it was not recognized. Turns out it was not a DVR/FiOS issue, the eSATA went bad (after 12 stinking days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!). Western Digital eSATA's are junk. I contacted Western Digital and they sent me a new eSATA (if it is still under warranty they will replace it for free BUT you have to pay all shipping costs), I connected that and it works just fine (but I am holding my breath, it has been 11 days since I connect the new one).
If the eSATA is bad you need to contact that Western Digitial, NOT Verizon. If it is bad it is not a Verizon problem.
And the Verizon In Home Agent is pretty much useless, that did nothing except waste a lot of my time.
