Printer reports Offline but network connected
My deskjet 3056a printer prints wirelessly with no problem most of the time. But occasionally reports being offline. After I set it to share on network it typically works again but now will not change from offline. Typically messes up after power blinks on and off. (I have Windows 8)
This article should help with your printer offline error:

I have rebooted printer, pc and even wireless network. Why won't my Windows 7 PC recognize the printer is online. I verified the IP address was the same.
As odd as this may seem, setting a manual (or static) IP address has been known to help in similar scenarios.
First, print a network configuration page.
1. Select Setup
2. Network
3. Print a network configuration page
This should print a page that has the current settings assigned to it by DHCP (automatic IP settings).
Locate the printer's IP address.
1. On a computer that can print to it, enter the IP address in the address field of the web browser to view the printer's page.
The resulting page should look similar to this.
2. Click on Networking.
3. It appears the printer is connected wirelessly. Select Wireless (802.11).
4. Click on Advanced and scroll down. There should be three check boxes. Putting a check next to In an ad hoc network act connected evenw hen others are not present. While you are using an inftrastructure setup, this option has been known to help in certain network enviornments.
5. Click on IPv4 Configuration at the top.
6. Change it to Manual IP.
7. Enter the printer's current IP address into the Manual IP Address field, but change the last number to a number that is outside the range of your router's DHCP. If you do not know what range it is, you can change the last number to something between 250 and 254. Most routers do not start assigning nubmers from the end, so this should avoid any conflicts on the network.
Enter the subnet mask from the configuration page into Manual Subnet Mask.
Enter the default gateway fromt he configuration page into Manual Default Gateway
Enter 8.8.8.8 for Manual Preferred DNS Server.
Enter 8.8.4.4 for Manual Alternate DNS Server.
These are Google's DNS servers, but they are good place holders and work just as well as other DNS servers in my experience.
8. Click Apply.
9. Once the settings are saved, power off the printer for at least 30 seconds.
10. Shutdown the computer that was having the offline issue.
11. Power on the printer.
12. Boot the computer back up.
At this point, the manual IP settings should create a stable network connection.

I Have seen similar questions to this but still can't seem to be able to fix the issue...
a Few months ago my iMessage and FaceTime stopped working, along with any notifications from apps such as Facebook. iMessage comes up saying 'iMessage activation. Could not sign in. Please check network connection settings.' I am currenttly using wifi on my iPad so I have internet, I've signed in and out of iTunes - as apps such as Facebook when open come up with 'connect to iTunes to receive push notifications.' I've checked the date and set it to automatically update and I've tried using different wifi And I've tried resetting the network settings. Does anyone have any other ideas? It's really annoying!

Airplay is stop working but network connection ok: airport express
Hi,
I hope someone could help me, I can't find the solution.
I have an airport express which I use for internet access and airplay.
Sometimes when I awake (from sleep mode) my MBP (running OSX 10.6.8) airplay doesn't work anymore. It means Itunes says that remote speaker airport express cannot be found and airport utility can't find the airport express either. But internet connection still works perfectly!
So I have to reboot the MBP to get back my airplay service, the problem seems to be on the mac.
I have updated airport utility and airport express to the latest firmware, so I don't have any other idea.
Would you have ideas?
Thanks!Found the fix under a different search. Turns out the Linksys router was blocking the iTunes. Have no idea why it would show up momentarily and then disappear though. In any event, the fix is:
I have a wired Ethernet network and run through a Linksys cable/DSL 4-port router. Model #BEFSR41. Here's how we fixed the problem step-by-step:
1) Open a browser window and access the router control panel by typing in 192.168.1.1
2) Click on the "Security" button at the top of the screen
3) There are two subnav options under Security. Click on "Filter IP" (I believe it's already highlighted.)
4) At the bottom of that page, there is a set of four or five radio buttons. One of them says "Filter Multicast". Mine was disabled. CLICK THIS TO ENABLED.
This fix comes directly from this post about getting Apple TV to work:

Hope this helps anyone else who has this problem! -
Time capsule doesnt show up anymore but network connection works
I meant to make my user name i hate time capsule. Time machine, I actually like.
Here is the situation, and I am lost as to what to do, and nervous about rebooting or resetting the time capsule.
My network connections work fine. I have an iMAc and a macbookpro that both are getting excellent wireless connections.
The problem is that the time machine backups have stopped working because they cant see the drive anymore. (Initial backups worked fine.)
I did do the firmware upgrade to 7.3.1, but didnt notice anything strange immediately.
Airport Utility is useless. It claims there is no wireless device in range, even though it is using the wireless device to make a network connection.
Now, my first guess is that rebooting the device might help, but I worry that it will be the death of my network connection, which I dont want to do without the ability to commit a day to fixing it.
Any advice is appreciated.Hi,
I'm not techno-geek at all, but I had a similar problem when I did something and Airport Utility no longer could find Time Capsule. I tried one thing and TC wound up with the amber light blinking. Ultimately I just reset TC. Doing that shifts everything back to factory settings, so you have to go through the set up like new all over again, naming your network, re-entering passwords, etc. Between me and Keychain I was able to duplicate what I had entered previously. Airport Utility did it's job and TC has been working fine ever since. For all of this, I just followed the directions in the TC booklet.
You might want to wait for a few other posts to see if others advise the same, but maybe this will be helpful. Good luck. -
Print times on slow network connection
Im looking for some ideas on how to resolve a problem that Im having in a production environment. I'm also not sure if this is the correct forum to be in so if i would be better off elsewhere please politly let me know :)
Background:
I have a group of users that are working over private 56k Frame Relays. We are rolling out are new printer to these location to support new documents that are required to be printing. These laser printers are replacing a generic text impact printer. The new document include a lot more information than its predecessor. The old report was 10 k and the new report is now anywhere from 85 to 170k. This new report is being prepared by JasperReports
Problem:
Obviously this report is going to take longer to download before it sent to the printer, any where from 20 to 30 second to be exact. But it gets worse some of these location have 2-3 workstations sharing the line so these times could spike to as high as 85 seconds for a single document. This report is being sent back to the thin client through a stream that is started by a print applet on the page.
Other givens that I can not change:
The line speed can not be changed. I dont have anyway of making these documents any smaller
Questions:
Can anyone think of any solution to lower the print time? Obviously there is no application problem as it is not an issue in location with a high connection speed. I have done packet tracking for these locations and the network can not be optimized any more than it already is.
Is there anyway to bring some of the responsibility to the client side so that we can send the information back in some other format to lower the network traffic Im grasping for straws here so any ideas are welcome,"We are rolling out are new printer to these location..."
Is this mean that you have a printer in a single location and the users are sending print jobs over a slow frame relay?
If that is the case one way to over come this problem is instead of sending the print job to the printer from client location you can implement a some kind of a server side application through which the users can directly order print jobs. And host that application in the same location that host the printer. Basically it should be possible to send the generated document to printer directly without having to send it to end user and then to printer. -
HP 5530 wireless printer shows offline but it is turned on, I use a router
My printer shows to be offline, sometimes it prints pages at random, which I have no idea why or what they are about, kinda scary, It is turned on and the wirelss light is not blinking, but shows offline when i try to prine from my laptop. Its a HP 5530 all in one, windows 8
Hello @tiogalady,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I would like to assist you today with resolving the 'offline' issues that you're experiencing when trying to print from your Windows 8 computer to your wirelessly connected HP ENVY 5530 e-All-in-One Printer. Now, recently Microsoft has released a Hotfix for the Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 Operating Systems to 'fix' offline printing issues as Microsoft recognizes this as an issue with their latest Operating System. Therefore, to start, I am going to have you run the Hotfix to see if this resolves the printing issues.
Can I please have you click here to access the Hotfix page. Once the website opens select the 'Hotfix Download Available' button. Allow the Hotfix to run. Please follow any onscreen steps to install the Hotfix.
Once the fix has completed, please test printing again. Should the Offline issue persist there is an additional driver fix that I may need to walk you through. Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. Good luck!

Can I use a USB Lead to connect PC with my Printer instead of the network connection?
I have recently moved my BT home Hub (wireless modem) from my study where it sat beside my printer, into the living room downstairs. So that it’s A, nearest to the BT access point (less loss) and B, it can connect directly to my TV, Blu-ray & BT Vision box. I have used a pair of Powerline adaptors to connect the home hub back to my HP PC and it’s all working very well with a faster broadband speed reaching my PC.
The only problem I now have is with my printer, which connects wirelessly to the home hub.
The printer is now right on the edge of the wireless range and really struggles to make a connection, sometimes failing altogether. The printer takes a long while to start up and sometimes fails to collect all of the data.
My real question is:
Can I simply connect my PC to the printer using a USB cable (USB A to USB B) and if I do, do I need to make any other changes to the way my PC connects with the printer?
Printer

PC

This question was solved.
View Solution. No problem. Here's the link for the download for your operating system. Click Here When I sent my first post, I wasn't sure which operating system you were using.
Here's something you might try first before you do the download. You can leave the current drivers installed ( might come in handy if you decide to reconnect to the network ). Click on your Start button, and then select All Programs. Scroll down to the HP folder and open it. Then open the folder for the Photosmart 6510. Select Printer Setup and Software. You can go through the installation process as you did before, but this time you will choose usb connection.
Let me know what happens.
Good Luck !

IMac OSX 10.9.5 Shows Brother MFC 8710DW Printer Is "Offline" and "Not Connected T
I have a Brother MFC 8710 DW that I've had for the past 4 months. It works perfectly fine with my other devices (iPad, iPhone, Windows PC and Macbook Pro) but it doesn't work with my iMac OSX 10.9.5. I did the things listed below but it keeps on telling me that the printer is not connected to my computer and whenever I check its status, it keeps on saying "offline." I've tried to contact Apple and they said that it's Brother's problem and that I should speak with them. However, when I called Brother, they said that it's Apple's problem. I'm at lost on what I need to do. As much as I love my iMac, I am tempted to return it back. Please help.
Things I've done so far but did not fix the problem:
1. Unplugged the printer, iMac and router and plugged it back in after a few minutes.
2. Removed the printer from my iMac and added it back.
3. Reinstalled the software from Brother.
4. Repaired the disk.
5. Plugged the printer and router directly to the wall.
6. Turned off and restarted my iMac and printer.
7. Downloaded the most recent OSX software. It sounds unusual that you have been able to remove the Brother from Printers & Scanners on the iMac and add it back again, yet get a printer offline message.
Since you mention a router, is the Brother connected to it via a physical cable, such as USB? Or do you have a wireless router and the printer is connected to it via WiFi?
On the iMac, could you also open System Information (located in Applications > Utilities) and select Printers in the left column. If the Brother is the only printer on the iMac then its information will appear in the right pane. If you have more than one printer, then you will have a list of those printers in the top right pane. Select the Brother to see its information in the bottom right pane. Can you copy this information and paste back here. And since the MacBook Pro is printing okay, can you perform the same action on it so I can compare the setup for the same printer. -
Dear all
I bought two days ago HP Deskjet 3520 e-All-in one printer serie, but i have some really bad issues with the scanner! I have searched on the internet and i couldn’t find anything to solve the problem.
I have installed the printer according to the book of the printer, so everything did go well(i think), except that i can’t connect the scan to my computer, a Mac OS X (i am connected with the printer). I get directed to the website where i can connect the scanner, but every time i try to connect it with wi-fi, i get two notification, one from my computer (from HP Itility (Dutch) program) that the connection is off and second from the website that i have to make sure that i’m connected with internet (which i am) and to check the IP address if it is the same with my computer (which is the same).
Obesely something did go wrong, but i can’t find the problem.
Beside when its copy or prints a document (no matter how many pages) it’s very slow. It takes 10 -15 minutes till the printer starts. Has it something to do with the problem i’ve got with the scanner or is the printer always so slow? Because the very first time, when i installed the printer, it printed very fast.
By the way i also print the test-results to check if there is a problem, but according to test-results there are no problems at all.
I hope that someone recognize this problem and can help me to solve it.

Windows 7 No internet Access but network connected
Just installed Win7 which was needed for BF3 as i was previously using XP. All was good until my net has just stopped. the LAN icon on the task bar has the yellow symbol with the "!" mark on it.
ive tried unistalling and reinstalling drivers for my NIC. tried resetting my tcp stack, release/renew, dnsflush. have gone through the forums and tried the Bonjour services fix. nothing works. also tried rolling back restore points, no go.
the pc has 2 drives which i switch between, 1 with xp still and 1 with win 7. the xp drives still works no problem and another pc connecting via wi-fi also works just not Win7.
when running the diagnosting tool it keeps coming up with dns not responding
would love some help. this is BSOK I found the answer! It is a McAfee bug. Go to
http://mvt.mcafee.com. Run Autofix and update the Def file and your done. Wasted too much time on this. I check the Dell Support and they also had this solution.
http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/kcs/document?c=us&cs=19&docid=576372&l=en&s=dhs
Thanks for posting this! And get this...just yesterday I received an email (from my working laptop) from McAfee titled "Service Notification: Important Update for your PC". Yea, whatever, I'll get to it later. My desktop hadn't connected to the internet
for a couple of days. Tonight I started troubleshooting and couldn't figure it out. I had network access; my router was giving me an IP and my gateway was my router. But I couldn't ping the router and couldn't get to the internet.
Then I searched and thankfully found your post! As soon as I read it was a McAfee bug I remembered that crucial email! Pasted below is a subset of the entire email, with the relevant portion for those of us who can only access the internet after -rebooting
into 'Safe Mode with Networking':
from: [email protected]
Use this procedure for McAfee Virtual Technician (MVT) to detect and repair the issue. The following steps will repair your product and update your McAfee
software.
Run McAfee Virtual Technician (MVT)
1. Launch your web browser and go to http://mvt.mcafee.com.
2. On the Welcome screen, click Next.
NOTE: The message McAfee
Virtual Technician not found means that MVT is not YET installed on your system.
3. Click Next again.
4. When you are prompted to save or run the file, click Run.
Click Run a second time
if prompted by the Windows operating system.
NOTE: Windows Vista and 7 users may be prompted to allow the application to run. Click Yes in
the User Account Control dialog if prompted.
5. Click I Agree to
begin the installation.
6. Click Finish to
complete the installation.
7. When the MVT installation completes, click Next to
run the scan.
8. If MVT detects issues with your McAfee software, leave the default optionAutoFix and
click Next.
If there are no issues, MVT will complete on its own.
9. When MVT and the AutoFix complete, restart your computer.
Ensure the MVT solution worked properly
After your computer restarts please confirm the following:
You should able to access Internet resources by going to familiar web pages.
You should be able to open your McAfee Security software by double-clicking on the M icon in the Windows system tray.
When McAfee SecurityCenter opens, the status bar should be green and state that "Your computer is secure".
While the McAfee SecurityCenter window is still open, you should request and complete an update successfully by doing the following:
1. Click the Updates drawer.
2. Click Check for Updates.
Run a quick scan
After you know that you can access the Internet and your system is protected, perform a quick scan:
1. Open McAfee SecurityCenter by double-clicking on the M icon
in the Windows system tray.
2. Click the Real-Time Scanning drawer.
3. Click the Scan your PC option.
4. Click Run a quick scan.
If you still experience issues, continue to the next Resolution. -

The logs says that's OK, I have two lines.
NACAgent on the host do the job correctly but the NIC says : "Network failure" despite NACagent grants the access.
Any Ideas folks ???

endHello Tarik, thanks for trying to help !
I guess that we all have configured the Sw and ISE as described in the documentation.
It would be kind to give us a standard Sw config that works. In my opinion, dACL is the point to be clarified urgently.
No IP Phone at all.
How to configure dACL on ISE ? ( pre-posture, redirect ) ????
What are the ports ? ( 8443, 8905n any ?)
Do we need a ACL to be set in the Sw before the dACL is applied ???
Please answer those questions first, and we will provide you some logs.
I'am not able to have a stable behaviour any more.
Lastest tested IOS : c3750-ipbasek9-mz.122-52.SE.bin (compatibility matrix on Cisco Website)
We waste of lot of time trying not to debug the software, but trying to find which parts work together.
Thanks again Tarik.
