Printing using IPP with linux

I'm trying to print to my airport extream connected printer from linux. I thought I could set it up as an IPP printer. I was wondering if anyone knew the uri of the printer. I have another ipp print server which has a uri of http://ipaddress/lp. I was hoping that someone knew a similar address for the airport.
I also tried setting it up as a TCP printer using the ip address as the address and both 9100 and 631 as ports and it could not find the printer.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

The Airport Extreme "print server" does not support the IPP printing protocol, nor does it support the LPR printing protocol. It only supports raw printing to port 9100, sometimes called the "JetDirect" protocol.
You didn't provide much detail about your network setup - but make sure you are sending the port 9100 data to the correct IP address of the Airport Base Station. On a basic setup where the Base Station acts as the router for your entire network, it will be at 10.0.1.1. This will not be the case if the Base Station is being used in any other manner on an existing cabled or wireless network.

  • How to use jdeveloper with linux?

how to use jdeveloper with linux?
Hello, i've download jdeveloper, and i have java1.4 installed. But i can't run jdeveloper i have jdev.exe and jdev but when i put /usr/local/jdev/bin/jdev a have a message like file not found. I don't know what to do.
    Help please!!!
    Ori.

You need to go to the directory where you unzipped JDeveloper, for example:
    cd opt/jdev/jdevj2eebase1013/jdev/bin
    Once there, do this:
    chmod +x jdev
    chmod +x ojc
    Now you can try this:
    nohup ./jdev &
    or simply
    ./jev
I usually create a soft link in ~/bin

  • Using iPhone with Linux?

Does anybody know if there's a sensible way to use iPhone with Linux? I really like the look of the iPhone 3G S, but since I run Ubuntu it looks like I've got no way to really use it.
Apart from the whole iTunes, Apple Store & Firmware updates issue, I've got a bunch of MP3's that I'd want to be able to transfer onto the phone to play them. Is there any way to do that from Linux?

I've tried Wine with iTunes, but it hasn't worked. QuickTime will install, but that's it (besides, I've had loads of troubles with iTunes on Windows). Consequently, as I'm on the Linux side of my computer all the time, I never really update my podcasts, making my iPhone little different from a regular mobile phone (which in Japan has music players already built into them).
I dare say, consequently, if my iPhone is lost, stolen, or damaged, I won't be replacing it with another iPhone.

  • Using SAP with linux platform

    HI Experts,
How well is to Use SAP with linux platform?I checked in internet but i couldnt get a satisfactory result.DID someone who have installed the same can advise me about the performance.
    (80 gb hd , 1 GB ram).
(I asked this question bcoz , when i tried to install the same my sound card is not working .)

    Hi,
There are many things that you need to consider before you think of installaling SAP on Linux
    1. version of Linux- SAP does not support every version lf Linux
    2. Hardware- again SAP does not support every hardware
    there are supported: Bull,Dell,Fujitsu Siemens,HP,IBM,IBM POWER,IBM zSeries,SGI,SUN,Unisys
    3. RAM -SAP recommends swap memory to be 2*RAM,so you require a lot of RAM for installing SAP
Now with the config. u have mentioned it looks you want to install in u pc or laptop, but I am afraid this will not be enough!!
you will not be able to install SAP with this config.Let me know if you need any other info.

  • Printing using CUPS in Linux

As I understand it Java 1.5 is supposed to allow printing using CUPS (rather than lpr) in Linux.
I cannot get this working. Java does not seem to be able to see the CUPS system at all. Is there something I am missing? I have tried my own programs which work fine in Windows and programs from the tutorial.
    Thanks.
    Alan

I don't know if this is helpful but
    System.out.println(printJob.getPrintService());
    shows
    IPP Printer : Brother
I wonder if it should show
    IPP Printer : //Rubinpc:631/printers/Brother

  • Can you use itunes with Linux computer?

Im using Ubuntu, a linux based operating system and would like to still use itunes. Is this possible?

No. It has never been migrated to Linux.
With the current market share that Linux has, I seriously doubt that it will ever be migrated to that platform.

  • Printing on local printer using IPP

I have installed XML Publisher 6.5.2 on my local Windows XP Pro system and am trying to get the printer working using IPP. I made it available in Internet Information Server and am able to see the local shared printer when I navigate to http://19x.xx.xx.xx/printers.
What values do I have to enter in XML Publisher admin to get this working? I added the the url, but don't get a document printed. The local system uses a printserver from Deonet and I had to add a new custom TCP/IP printer port. Is it possible that this causes the problems?

Steven, did you get an answer to this question?

    Dear Team,
i have on the server win 2008 R2 standard , i have installed the drivers of HP Laserjet M1217nfw MFP printer ,
on the client i have win pro 7 SP1.
i need to print through RDP the documents generated in my application which i access remotely using RDP.
i know the printer drivers are installed on client and server both.
the issue is of creation of custom pages to print the document in proper format so that it prints in the client PC with proper formatting.
we are currently successfully printing on HP Laserjet P3015 printer but at a different location. and i have 5 branches still to be able to print this document from the application,
I need you advise and assistance as to how do i go about achieving my objective with this printer,
    Thanking you in advance
    regards

    Hello JBC666,
I understand that you are having an issue with printing wireless from your M1217nfw. I can understand how frustrating this can be. I would like to confirm a couple of things with you to get better understanding of your setup.
    1) How far away from the printer is the router?
    2) Has there been an recent changes that could have caused the issue?
As well printing a network test report, is an excellent option to find out if there is any issues with the connection at all. I have included the following steps to print the test.
    1) Press the wrench button
    2) Press the right arrow until you see Network Config
    3) Press Ok
    4) Press the right arrow until you see Network Test
    5) Press Ok
    1) Does anything fail on this test?
    2) What is the signal quality?
    3) Are you able to view the printers embedded web server?
Steps to accessing the embedded web server
        1) Open up your internet browser
        2) Type the IP address (from the test report) into the address bar
        3) Press Enter
    Thank you.

  • Using iTunes with Linux

I've recently made the decision to upgrade my main computer OS from Windows XP SP3 to Linux Mint v.12 permanently.  I am enquiring here about the best option to maintain iTunes Store and Sync capability for my iPad and iPod classic.
I note that the ideal recommended solution is to use WINE, however I also note that the current rating for iTunes v. 10.6.1 support with Wine is less than ideal.
I'm really not phased about the ability to import and play music as there are many alternatives, but I do want to continue to use the iTunes Store and Sync my devices.
    I have two questions:
    1. Does the Apple community support the use or Wine / Virtualbox solutions to enable iTunes outside of Windows / OS X, or does Apple actively try to break the ability of such users to use iTunes in subsequent releases?
    2. Out of the following options, what would be the best course of action for me to keep using iTunes:
    - using WINE
    - installing Windows XP in a Virtualbox
    - installing Windows XP on a seperate partition, exclusively just to run iTunes
    - resorting to my old iBook G4 every time I need to sync

Wow.  Full points for failing to answer either of my questions.
So your only advice is to search google.  try ialreadygoogledthat dot (on second thoughts don't try that)
    </snarky>
I did a google search for iTunes support and the first hit was apple.com.  Fancy that!
So far I've tried installing XP twice to a bluescreen and confirmed the broken iTunes 10.6.1.7 interface in Wine.  Going to try a different install cd + driver set and virtualbox tomorrow.  Failing that I'll have to consider the non-itunes alternatives (libimobiledevice + rhythmbox) as there's no way I'm going to fork out for Windows 7 just for iTunes and there's no legitimate way for me to install OSX on this PC.  Really don't want to have to keep my old pc on standby every time i want to sync.  I hope there's a better solution on the way.

  • Anyone use jmDNS with Linux?

I'm trying to get jmDNS to work on linux to discover some apple airports, but it just shows up empty. Has anyone here gotten it to work?
I'm just running the basic sample:
    java -jar lib/jmdns.jar -i 127.0.0.1 -browse

    JoachimSauer wrote:
I don't know anything about jmdns, but if my guess is correct and "-i 127.0.0.1" identifies the interface to search for, then you won't find any airports this way, as 127.0.0.1 normally references the loopback address and thus the loopback interface. That interface is only ever connected to the local host. You'll need to provide the IP of another interface for this to do some useful stuff.I tried it with 192.168.1.100 and it still didn't work.
What's weird is I haven't been able to get any multidns app to woork on linux and find airports. But they work on windows (the same computer, dual booted).

  • I have perl scripts that I want to be able to run with my iplanet web server 6.0. How can I make it work in Windows NT? (Because I have no problem when I use it with Linux).

    Hi Melanie,
In order to run a PERL script under Windows NT the iPlanet Web Server needs to know where to find the PERL interpreter.
    follow these steps :
    1) Make sure Windows NT knows what a .pl file is. In file Manager click on file and choose associate from the menu. Check the "files with extension" drop-down list for pl - if it exists verify that it is pathed to your perl.exe. If it is not already on the list click the "New Type" button. In the Filetype box put pl. Choose open from the Action drop-down list. In the Command box specify the full path to your perl.exe interpreter (Make sure to use short filenames, rather than long filenames.) Click the OK button. Then click the Close button in the main Associate dialog box. Double click a .pl file to test - it should automatically launch the PERL interpreter and feed it your .pl file.
    2) Create a directory to contain your .pl scripts.
    ~server_root\shell-cgi is a good choice.
    or \cgi-bin\
NOTE: Make very sure that this directory is NOT part of the document root, it should have it's own directory (preferably at the same level of the docroot).
    3) In the Admin Server select Programs.
    4) Choose CGI directory (normally) or WinCGI directory or ShellCGI Directory depending on ur choice from the Programs menu.
    5) Put the URL Prefix you would like to map to your Shell-CGI directory into the URL Prefix field.
    6) Put the full path to your Shell-CGI directory in the Shell CGI directory field.
    7) Click OK.
    8) The save and apply changes page will display your changes and give you the opportunity to verify them. If they are correct click the Save and Apply button. If not Click the Undo button and go back to step 4.
(9)You can then call your .pl scripts directly by referencing the directory mapping that you have just created. For example:
    http://my.server.whatever/shell-cgi/ myscript.pl
    this should work now.
    If not Pls Mail me.

  • Using N8 with Linux

    Hi
When I connect my N8 to my Ubuntu machine, I can transfer the pictures using ShotWell quite easily with USB. However, I would like to transfer my movies also, which the mentioned program doesn't support. The normal videoprograms do not seem to recognize the phone.
    Any ideas how to proceed?
I would prefer to avoid Bluetooth, since the movies are large and a USB-cable is simply more practical for many purposes.

Work perfectly well with USB cable and Mass Storage Mode On my Ubuntu
    Give a try !

  • How to print from linux to Mac printer using cups - password?

I think that I have done the correct things to share my printer from my OS X 10.4 Mac mini (my MacBook is happy to print on the Mac mini printer), and my Ubuntu Linux computer seems to be ready to print using cups. Linux can see the printer on Mac mini, but when I try to send a print job the Mac refuses access. I assume the problem is that the Linux computer needs to send the Mac a password, but I don't know how to do that -- where in the sequence of information coming from the Linux computer the password should be, what format, how to get the Linux computer to send the info through lpadmin or the GUI. All that.
Can anyone help? Preferably with step-by-step instructions for the complete idiot. I have seen FAQs on printing, but there is no information about passwords. And most are focussed on smb rather than cups.

I use linux and print through the Mac - but I don't have the trouble you are describing.
There are 2 places to enable print sharing on Mac - have you done both of those?
What protocol are you using - the easiest for CUPS is IPP (port 631). I have an Ubuntu computer at home - describe exactly how you add the printer and I'll be able to follow through.

  • Trouble with printing through 10.8 shared printer using lpd.

Hi, hoping someone will have had a similar issue.
I am using a OSX 10.8 mac mini as a print server.  I am using it as a print server because because i have clients that print across subnets and bonjour will not work for this application.  Previously with my 10.7 imac I had shared the generic printer aimed directly at the printers IP address.  Client macs aim at the print server using lpd (using ip or host name) and then the printer name (share) for the queue and also use the generic ppd. When a client adds this configuration aimed at the old 10.7 print server the printer would install and printing would be succesfull.  Now with the 10.8 print server a client (reguardless of client OS version) i get the "Unable to verify the printer on your network." when installing and printing fails. I have tried the proper ppd for the make/manufacture of the printer (i didnt think this would make a difference) I have tried using the cups commands as well:
    cupsctl --share-printers
    cupsctl --share-printers --remote-any
    cupsctl 'BrowseLocalProtocols="cups dnssd lpd smb"'
assuming lpd was just not available and needed to be turned on...
I am able to ping the 10.8 on the network from clients verifying they can see the server
also have tried using ipp with no luck.
Anyone else had this issue and if so is there a work around?  Thanks!

The Mini prints just fine to the printer.  on a side note, I tried to add a "client" printer to the mini server.  I added a printer using the ip address 127.0.0.1 (self resolving)  and the que name as the share.  This didnt work either.  Im thinking this must be a cups setting?

  • Printing PDF files with smb/cups not possible // SLPReg status -20!

    Hello *,
i am running SAMBA 3.6.1-1 and CUPS 1.5.0-1 on a dedicated system. Printer: Canon Pixma IP4500 (USB).
The problem is that all Windows 7 clients are not able to print PDF files (since few months) on that printer while printing these files with Linux software is no problem. The PDF files are neither encrypted nor forbidden to print.
I tried to print with Adobe Acrobat Reader X (latest) and Foxit Reader. Both are preparing the pages to be printed and close their printing dialog after processing. Windows printing queue does not show any jobs (which it even does not when printing simple images with MS Paint, which is not a problem).
Windows systems are using the Canon Inkjet 4500 and Canon iP 4500 driver (manually installed). Printing images works with both drivers.
I searched for "SLPReg […] failed with status -20!" but found no helpful information.
