Problem in closing JVM

Hi all,
I am running an applet using the new java plugin. I like it, and I had to use it because I create an applet tag (using deployjava.js) witch is based on a jnlp file with many extensions.
My applet access TWAIN using the morena toolkit. This toolkit require to start a thread that will load twain.dll via LoadLibrary. I need a specific thread since all calls to this library methods need to be executed via the same thread.
Then I also use log4j. Log4j uses static variables in order to keep its configuration shared.
When I close my applet, in the destroy() method, I call TwainManager.close() and LogManager.shutdown().
If the user moves from my page to a different page, the destroy() method is called and my applet is closed. This operation does not immediately close the JVM. the JVM is closed inbetween 5 and 30 seconds later my applet is destroyed.
When the user reload my applet on the same JVM, it cannot access anymore twain, because it creates a new thread that cannot load the same twain.dll library.
If the user load the page once the JVM is unloaded (I may see jvm unloading because its console window get closed), the a new JVM is loaded and everything works perfectly.
I wrote a few information about the log4j since previously I didn't call the shutdown() method. Probably this was a reason for keeping the JVM loaded, but I do think that actually there are no reasons for keeping the JVM loaded.
So, my questions:
1. how may I be sure the JVM is closed, or how may I check what is blocking JVM from closing?
2. is there any way to instruct java plugin to create a new JVM every time my applet is run?
3. if the user is browsing a different page on a different window, will this share the same JVM as my applet? Will this block any possibility to my applet to load again the twain.dll?
Thanks,
Giuseppe

So, my questions:
1. how may I be sure the JVM is closed, or how may I check what is blocking JVM from closing?
2. is there any way to instruct java plugin to create a new JVM every time my applet is run?Try <PARAM name="separate_jvm" value="true">See [https://jdk6.dev.java.net/plugin2/#SEPARATE_JVM]. I didn't try it but I I'd expect that everytime your applet gets loaded, a separate VM will be launched, and the old one(s) are closed behind the scenes.
3. if the user is browsing a different page on a different window, will this share the same JVM as my applet?As far as I understand, if you dont specify the separate_jvm flag, the behaviour is not specified. See [http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5396118].
Will this block any possibility to my applet to load again the twain.dll?Likely. Using the separate_jvm flag should avoid that, but you always have to load your application and .dll's each time the applet is started. Thus, caching of applet data among multiple started applets seems impossible right now...

  • Problems with Closed Captioning (subtitles)

    The last upgrade of the STB software fixed many of the problems with closed captioning.  However, there are still a number of problems.  For those of us with hearing impairment, it would really be nice if they got it right.  Now, at least all of the closed captioned dialog shows up (which it didn't used to do -- before, it would overwrite itself on certain stations).  However, some of the dialog shows up on the screen for only a fraction of a second -- too fast to read it.  Please help us hearing impaired people!!!!!

  • V 3.6.13 causes problems with closing "home" tab, and crashing.

    I installed v3.6.13 recently, and noted a problem in closing tabs.
    * The "home" or default 1st tab of the browser opens correctly and will correctly browse to other sites.
    * I can open and close other tabs, however I can not close that 1st or default tab.
    * When I have multiple tabs open, I have tried to close that tab with the |X| close tab button, with the left-click and close tab menu command, and using the wheel/center click button. None of these will close that window.
    * When I have multiple tabs open, and close all but one other tab, both of these tabs still navigate properly. BUT if I close that next-to-the-last tab, the problem closes or crashes.

    Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    See:
    * [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
    * [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
    If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

  • Problem with IBM JVM or the Thread

    Hi All,
    I have a class which implements Runnable. The purpose of the program is to read a file and count the number of lines present in that.
    I am using the IBM JVM. The logic runs like this..
    For each 2048 bytes read , it spawns a new thread with this object and each such new thread counts the no. of newline chars present. Once the thread is finished with its 2048 bytes it upddates an instance variable , count, to that value , updates the boolean done flag to "true" and stops. Once the whole file is read(thereby creating filesize/2048 threads ) , it keeps waiting for the threads to finish and then adds all the counts.
    Now the problem is that for some reason these threads seem to hang. There are no static vars present.
    Pls help.
    Tx

    Help yourself first.
    If this is "Windows", try typing Ctrl-Break in your window (Type Ctrl-\ if you're on Windows). This will produce a thread dump with all of your threads.
    See which ones are running, and what they're doing.
    Did you remember to either make your threads daemons (setDaemon(true)), or explicitly exit the run() method of the threads?

  • Problem in the jvm running in OS2 operating system

    Friends,
    It's a very urgent need for me.
    Please help me to solve this problem.
    I have a client server architecture based on RMI.
    The server runs in windows(jdk 1.4.2)
    and the client runs in OS2 (jdk 1.1.8). (we have no other choice but to use this jvm. forgive me please).
    The server is used to upload and download files to the client.
    That all works fine.
    But as part of my application, I should explore the files in the remote client.
    But the jvm in the OS2 is not returning the file.lastModified() correctly.
    It is displaying one hour less than the actual date.
    I just get the last modified date like this
    Date modDate = new Date(myFile.lastModified());
    But it is always returning one hour less than the actual date.
    I've checked the date and time in the client machine.
    It's same as that in the server.
    Is that a bug ....?
    Plz help me..guys.
    regards,
    james selvakumar

    But it is always returning one hour less than the

    It just seems like a bit of a coincidence that the US (I think) goes onto daylight savings this weekend and that the UK did last weekend...
    Sorry I can't help beyond that suggestion of a possible explanation; I don't have an OS/2 build around any more (Hallelujah!)

  • Problem in Closing Browser window from an Applet.

    I have wriiten a small Applet progarm that calls a Javascript function in the opening window, to close the window in which it is loaded.The Applet window is a PopUp window from one of my application's window.
    First time I start my application and load that Applet and then close the frame window,it works fine that the browser window will close, when the frame window is closed.It calls the window closing event in that applet stop method is called and In stop methd a closeLaunchedBrowser method will called this has a Javascript method and the Method closes the window using the self.close() method.
    But now if I continue this process of launching applet and then closing frame window, initial 1 or 2 steps it has know problem when I continue this, after 3 or 4 steps, it result in browser hang/crash.
    I am using java version 1.4.2_01 or higher and IE or Firefox(any other NetScape based) browser to load applet.It works fine with IE but getting problem in case of Firefox(any other NetScape based).
    The error dialog information and related event log generated is shown below :
    The dialog which is displayed before crashing of firefox has information :
    "firefox.exe has generated errors and it will closed by windows.you will need to restart the program.
    An error log is being created."
    The error log information :

    if (win != null && win.toString() != null) {
    //win.eval("top.opener=self;self.close();");
    //win.call("close", null);
    win.eval("self.close();");
    } catch (Exception e) {
    Thread t = new Thread(r);
    t.start();
    }If any one know solution regarding how to aviod this crash of browser please let me know. I will be very thankful to you.
    Thanks.

    Right, I sort of tracked down some code that uses getMethods to allow me to invoke a Javascript command. It is not pretty and took a little bit of editing to get to work but it does the job without putting JS stuff into my HTML.
    However it is causing some problems. If I open one of my other applets it will only let me close that window and the previous applets ceases to respond at all. I think this may be because the invoke gets the JSObject which is the window and somehow having more than one applet open in different windows is causing it to get confused and is locking the first window and only responding to the second.
    I have seen a much simpler method that uses:
    import netscape.javascript.*;
    and JSObject to get the window but my compiler complains about the import. Any further suggestions or an example would be welcome as my current solution is a bit limited as you can effectively only have one window open at a time which doesn't suit my needs.
    Many thanks.
    Mark.

    None of my filesystems are full. Why does this error occur then.
    I have tried to check the jsp configuration but there is nothing to see there ...
    Can annyone help me with this problem ?
    Thanks
    Ståle Tomten

    Hi
    I solved the problem.
    The server did not have enough memory available to spawn the javac process... Therefor: Not enough
    space.
    I just reduced the memory set up for weblogic and it worked.
    regards

  • Problems w closing 2 programs: firefox.exe & plugin-conteiner.exe

    Hi
    after updating FF to 10.0.2 version recently I started to experience hanging of browser, it became unresponsive on sites like Facebook, very difficult to write letters, as browser hangs, or works very slowly.
    When I close browser firefox.exe and plugin-container.exe not closing, continue to work in the background so I had to stop their work manually via Task Manager.
    I updated all my plugins yesterday reinstalled Adobe Flash Player, tried to reinstall browser FF 10.0.2, but problem persists. Just now again hanged in Facebook when no other programs opened.
    After that I deleted 10.0.2 version and now rolled back to 10 version of Firefox, seems to be working good. For now.
    Can anyone helped me what could possible cause of hanging and why firefox.exe was not closing properly?
    Thank in advance.

    I have 9 add-ons: Addthis, Diigo, EasyYoutube, EpubReader, Greasemonkey, Imtranslator, Java quickstarter, Screenshoter, UnMHT.
    But now in 10 version everything is working good, it seems. Problem was just in 10.0.2 version of Firefox.

  • Problems to install JVM in Windows  NT 4.0

    Hi;
    My problem is when star setup of JVM last version in windows NT with Internet Explorer 5.50 y recive error of " Unit h:\" and when acept the message the instalation finish but the JVM SUN isnt installed.
    Can Help me , please.
    Thanks

    We've got Jdev versions including latest running on NT fine.
    Make shortcut of where you installed Jdev/jdev/bin/jdevw.exe and
    copy that shortcut to your desktop. That's it, beyond unziping "with directory's"
    onto some drive you have space on.
    Maybe Jdev's dir structure was lost when you unziped, or you're launching the
    wrong bin/<thing> ??
    Good luck,

  • Problems with the jvm

    Hi,
    I am not sure if this is the right place to ask this question but nevertheless I hope that someone can help me.
    For some time I've been having problems viewing java applets with my computer. The chosen preferences of the internet explorer should be ok. I guess that an update of the java virtual machine might solve the problem. But where can I find a download for the newest version of the jvm for Windows 2000? From what I've seen it is no longer available on the page of microsoft, is it?
    Thanks in advance for your help

    You can get the newest JRE here: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4/download.html

  • I'm having a problem running, closing vi's using vi server..

    Hi,
    I'm having a problem. I have a vi called A. This is a user interface where the operator enters some parameters. When an OK button is pressed, I would like to call another vi, called B, using vi server and close this vi. Note that vi B does not display it's front panel. I do this in a sequence where I call vi B then on the next frame close vi A.
    What happens is vi A closes but vi B never runs. I have a Open Vi Reference in vi B at the beginning to open a reference to itself to try to keep it into memory, but same problem. Now the funny part is if I run vi A with execution highlighted, vi B runs. What gives?
    Thanks for any help!

    This is something i once heard about, it seems that if you have a reference opened to a vi, this will be running untill you close the reference AND the front panel, so in your case when you close the reference to B and it's front panel (never opened) you just act as if you were closing your vi's front panel, quiting it. In highlight execution, you can see your B vi's front panel, so you don't close it, as long as you give time until A and the reference to B are closed.
    Hope this helps

    my only idea would be convert copies of the podcasts to audio files (if they aren't protected files you should be able to use FFmpegX to do this). Sorry I can't be more helpful.
