Problem: KT3 Ultra2 and DMA mode

hi there,
everytime i wanna make an image of a CD with nero or some other CDR progs, it takes years to finish it. i got only a tranfer rate of 800kb/s - 1.400 kb/s (btw: there is no copy protection...this happens even on normal data cds)
i got my HDD and CDRom on IDE1 and my CDR and DVDRom on IDE2
in winXP it tells me:
IDE1:
0: UltraDMA Mode 5 (Hdd)
1: PIO
IDE2:
0: UDAM Mode 2 (DVDRom)
1: MultiwordDMA Mode 2 (burner)
CD Rom Teac CD-540E Firmware 3.0A (IDE1 Slave)
Burner Benq CD-R/RW 24x10x40 Firmware P.QJ (IDE2 Slave)
DVD Rom Pioneer 104 Firmware 2.06 (IDE2 Master)
i tried to reinstall the latest via drivers but nothing worked.
sometimes winXp tells me
that IDE1 device 0 is running in udma 2 mode...but than on the next reboot it's again on pio mode.
i checked the ide cables and changed the CDrom with the CDr and it show me UDMA2 now...but it didn't speed up the transfer rate...it still runs only with ~1.400kb/s :(
maybe the ide cables are corrupt???
apart from that i tried the latest bios drivers for my Mainboard but they didn't seem to solve that prob.
are there any options to check and enable the DMA mode on both IDE channels?
hope someone can help me
TIA

Hi,
Try switching your CDRW Drive to Master setting. Sometimes it doesnt like slave.

  • KT6 Delta/KT3 Ultra2 and MegaRAID SCSI failure

    Greetings,
    Synopsis:
    I have several MSI motherboards and a MegaRAID SCSI 320-2 RAID controller made by LSI Logic. In the older boards (K7D Master and K7T Turbo2), the controller works normally. In the newer boards (KT3 Ultra2 and KT6 Delta), the controller is unable to display its DOS based or "Web" based BIOS.
    I have changed numerous settings in the BIOS of the newer boards but nothing seems to allow me to configure the RAID controller. I also found the following link (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?threadid=16821&sid=&hilight=SCSI+RAID) to be interesting. Unfortunately, the suggestions therein did not effect a positive change.
    Details:
    Working boards:
    K7D Master Award BIOS W6501MS V1.1 030502 with 2 AMD Athlon MP 2000+ processors, 1 Gig DDR memory.
    K7T Turbo2 Award BIOS W6330MS V3.3 121901 with 1 AMD Athlon 1200, 512 Meg of SDRAM.
    Non-working boards:
    KT3 Ultra2 AMI BIOS A6380VMS V5.5 071002 with 1 AMD Athlon XP 2100+, 1 Gig DDR 333 MHz memory. PS actual reading: +5=5.030, +12=12.228, -12=-12.071, -5=-5.026. Single 450Watt PS.
    KT6 Delta AMI BIOS A6590VMS V5.5 021004 with 1 AMD Athlon XP 2600+, 1.5 Gig DDR 400 MHz memory. PS actual reading: +5=5.278, +12=12.045, -12=-12.400, -5=-5.277. Dual 450Watt PS.
    The non-working boards work normally without the RAID controller. In fact, they seem to work normally with the RAID controller save that they do not allow the RAID controller to enter configuration mode. They report that - will be executed at the end of POST but they just go to a boot attempt off the floppy drive.
    These same systems (the last two) also do not work with an AMI Enterprise 1400 RAID controller BIOS ver. 1.48 (latest version) or an LSI Logic made Mylex controller.
    Any suggestions on configuration changes, etc. that would allow these RAID controllers to work in the aforementioned motherboards would be greatly appreciated. Further information available if needed.

    I feel your pain buddy !!! it's the same thing for me.  I just got a LSI-22320 and I going through the same troubles.  I was really looking forward to having this nice card in my system, only to find out it would not even let the system boot.  I took the card out and pluged it in my Mom's older than dirt computer and IT WORKS !!... This was a very disapointing experience to say the least....
    Well, if you do here something good, please let me know...

  • Help...KT3-Ultra2 and Hard drive problems

    Hello, I'm new to this board.  I've been having an issue with hard drives lately.   I have an MSI KT3-ultra2 with the latest BIOS version installed.  I recently had a hard drive get completely erased and the actually size of it (10gig) had changed to 1 gig.  Just prior to that I got a corrupted file error in a game I was playing.  (The 10gig HD was a storage drive).  My main drive (Maxtor 40gig) started to clunk and whine and then eventually the computer would lock up hard.  I assumed the HD was going bad and was the cause of all the corruption.  So I went and bought a new WD Hard drive 80 gig.  Had it for about 2 weeks now and now all of a sudden I'm getting a similar clicking noise and a whine and then it locks up on me.  I can only run my computer for about 10 to 20 minutes before it locks up.  I have changed IDE cables to see if they were the cause and that didn't solve the problem.  I've also disconnected all my CD drives and still nothing.  I am going to take a guess and assume there is something wrong with my MB.  IDE controler perhaps?  Can anyone help me with this or confirm my thoughts on the situation?  Any help is greatly appreciated.  Thanks

    May be your powersupply is faulty. Or the memory? try to get it checked

  • Best BIOS settings for Kt3 Ultra2 and Geforce4?

    Hi,
    Can someone tell me what the best BIOS settings would be for my KT3 Ultra2 running a Geforce4 ti4200?
    I get crappy scores in 3dMark2001 SE and I have the infamous stuttering/crashing problems in 3D games.  I've tried pretty much every configuration of settings and drivers I can think of.
    I saw on these forums that the Kt3 Ultra2 can be a bit fussy with GF4 cards.  If someone could post the best BIOS settings for performance and stability I'd be eternally grateful.
    Alternatively, email me at [email protected] with them.
    Thanks in advance

    very very similar as far as i can make out

  • KT3 Ultra2 and HDD 137Gb

    I wonder if someone can help me to be clear about the following please.
    I understand that there are two inter-related areas with regard to drives that exceed this capacity barrier. One is the need for 48bit LBA within windows to have partitions greater than this size and the other is to have a BIOS that is itself able to address a drive of that size.
    1. As regards the Bios issue, according to this thread https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?threadid=70205 the KT3 Ultra2 can use HDD >137Gb and would have no probs with a 200 or 250Gb HDD. Is this correct?
    2. As regards o/s issues, I use XP SP1 (intergrated disk). It was my understanding that XP with SP1 was all that was required to run a HDD >137Gb this as per the following threads.
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?threadid=71126&hilight=hard+disk
    http://www.seagate.com/support/kb/disc/faq/137_winxp.html#trad
    However, the info below from MS suggests that one also needs the Atapi.sys version to be 5.1.2600.1135 or later.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/303013
    So in my case I have XP SP1 with Atapi.sys version 5.1.2600.1106, therefore I would need to apply Microsoft Knowledge Base article 331958 , referred to in kb303013 above.
    This would in the first instance update my Atapi.sys version to the required one ie v1135 (or later). Am I correct in my understanding please?
    I have not upgraded my HDD yet but would like to be clear on these issues before taking the plunge.

    Thanks for your reply Wonkanoby. I have read several of your posts that say exactly the same thing ie XP with SP1 integrated is fine.
    Any thoughts on what the MS articles are all about. Sorry to ask, but I just get nervy before upgrades.
    Plus I wonder if any other KT3 Ultra2 users can let me know if 250Gb (or any HDD of 200Gb or higher) works on their system.
    Many thanks

  • KT3-Ultra2 and 2400+ CPU

    I have a new system I built...
    MSI KT3 Ultra2 (MS-6380E) Ver. 1.0 MB
    AMD 2400+ CPU
    Dr. Thermal Extreme SE CPU Cooler w/Artic Silver III
    Antec TruePower 550W PS
    512 Meg PC2700 DDR Crucial Ram (Certified to work with Board)
    Seagate 10 gig HD
    Cardtek GeForce 3 Ti-500
    NetGear 100 meg NIC
    Sound Blaster Audigy2 Platinum
    System booted and loaded XP fine.  The original bios was 5.5.  The cpu comes up as 1800+ by default.  According to MSI web site, to adjust for 2400+ cpu, you set the FSB to 133 and the multiplier to 15.  If you do this, the system locks.  If you change to FSB133 and keep default multiplier it locks after reboot (will not post).  Is there a physical jumper on the board I need to adjust/set?
    If I reset back to defaults the system runs perfectly fine...

  • Problem with rotation and landscape mode in iOS 8

    From start of iOS 8 I have got problem with rotation in my iPhone 5S 32GB as well as in my iPad mini retina 32GB. Automatical rotation to landscape mode is not working correctly. For example if you take the phone or tablet to landscape mode in base display and tap to Safari, Mail, Messages, the app will start but stay in normal mode, not landscape. Then you have to back the phone to normal portrait mode and back to landscape and only then the phone do the landscape mode. I have never seen this problem in iOS 7 or older.
    Could you help me anyone with this problem? Or is the problem generally in iOS 8.
    Thanks a lot
    Jakub

    Brian, thanks, but it's not a rotation lock issue - at least not relating to the rotation lock setting. It's just a general use setting. Right now i have my iPhone propped in landscape mode. If I now hit the home button, essentially returning to a portrait setting though my phone is still positioned in landscape, then open any other app that supports landscape, that app WILL NOT orient itself to landscape mode. It will stay in portrait mode. The phone has to be physically oriented to portrait, then back to landscape for the app to register landscape mode properly. This is a glitch, and not a rotation lock issue. it ought to be noted that this was not an issue in iOS 7 or any previous iteration.

  • Problems with environments and transactional mode in the Python API

    Hello everyone,
    I have been having problems with the Python API, and I wonder if anyone can comment? I am using DB XML version 2.2.13, with python 2.3 (RedHat linux WS 4.0) and python 2.4 (SuSE 10.1) with identical results. I started with a simple example:
    #!/usr/bin/python
    """XPath example from http://www.w3schools.com/xpath/default.asp
    ported to DbXML
    from bsddb3.db import *
    from dbxml import *
    books = """<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
    <bookstore>
      [xml data omitted for brevity]
    </bookstore>"""
    if __name__ == "__main__":
        conFlags = DB_CREATE | DB_NOMMAP
        myMgr = XmlManager()
        myMgr.setDefaultContainerFlags(conFlags)
        myMgr.setDefaultContainerType( XmlContainer.NodeContainer)
        uc = myMgr.createUpdateContext()
        container = myMgr.createContainer("books.dbxml")
        container.putDocument("books.xml", books, uc)So far, so good - this works, and creates a container books.dbxml that I can open and query. Next, I try to instantiate the XmlManager using an environment:
    if __name__ == "__main__":
        envFlags = DB_CREATE | DB_PRIVATE
        conFlags = DB_CREATE | DB_EXCL | DB_NOMMAP
        myEnv = DBEnv()
        myEnv.open("/home/pkeller/dbxml_tests", envFlags, 0)
        myMgr = XmlManager(myEnv, DBXML_ADOPT_DBENV)
        myMgr.setDefaultContainerFlags(conFlags)
        myMgr.setDefaultContainerType( XmlContainer.NodeContainer)
        uc = myMgr.createUpdateContext()
        container = myMgr.createContainer("books.dbxml")
        container.putDocument("books.xml", books, uc)This fails with the following output:
    Traceback (most recent call last):
      File "w3school_xpath_c2.py", line 60, in ?
        container = myMgr.createContainer("books.dbxml")
      File "/scratch_bernoulli/pkeller/dbxml/install/lib/python2.3/site-packages/dbxml.py", line 125, in createContainer
        def createContainer(*args): return dbxml.XmlManagercreateContainer(*args)
    RuntimeError: Error: Invalid argument
    Segmentation faultA bit odd - I can't find anything in the docs about the required arguments to XmlManager.createContainer being different if an environment has been used explicitly.
    Anyway, I persevered (my aim being to use transactional mode in Python). Changing the environment and container flags like so:
        envFlags = DB_CREATE  | DB_INIT_LOCK | DB_INIT_LOG | DB_INIT_MPOOL | DB_INIT_TXN | DB_PRIVATE
        conFlags = DB_CREATE  | DB_EXCL | DBXML_TRANSACTIONAL | DB_NOMMAPThis change allowed the script to run, outputting the single classic line:
    Segmentation fault(the C++ API docs at http://www.sleepycat.com/xmldocs/gsg_xml/cxx/transaction.html#initializetransaction are incorrect by the way - there is no flag DB_TRANSACTIONAL).
    In spite of the segfault, the file "books.dbxml" was produced and could be queried by another application. A transaction log file "log.0000000001" was also written (10485760 bytes long).
    Running this last example again with "python -v" showed that the segfault was being produced during the python's cleanup phase:
    # clear __builtin__._
    # clear sys.path
    # clear sys.argv
    # clear sys.ps1
    # clear sys.ps2
    # clear sys.exitfunc
    # clear sys.exc_type
    # clear sys.exc_value
    # clear sys.exc_traceback
    # clear sys.last_type
    # clear sys.last_value
    # clear sys.last_traceback
    # clear sys.path_hooks
    # clear sys.path_importer_cache
    # clear sys.meta_path
    # restore sys.stdin
    # restore sys.stdout
    # restore sys.stderr
    # cleanup __main__
    Segmentation faultCan anyone clarify what is going on? I had been hoping to deploy DB XML as an alternative to something more admin-heavy, but with this behaviour that would be hard to justify. A dirty exit from Python means that no-one will consider trusting their data to this engine (or am I doing something wrong?).
    Regards,
    Peter.

    Peter,
    Your first failure -- invalid argument -- was due to an invalid combination of
    flags to DBEnv.open(). Along with DB_CREATE you need at least DB_INIT_MPOOL.
    As you can see, it worked once you added more flags.
    The second, cleanup problem (segmentation fault) is the result of out of order
    destruction of objects. This is fixed in the next release (later this year), but
    you can work around it by ensuring that your XmlContainer and XmlManager
    objects are deleted/cleaned up before the DBEnv object.
    Python will cleanup in reverse order of creation, unless you perform explicit
    deletions, which is also fine (e.g. del container, del myMgr).
    Explicit deletion is always safe.
    Regards,
    George

  • KT3 Ultra2 and Win2k Bug

     ;(   I recently had to return my KT3 Ultra board.  Well, not too recently...it took a month.  But no biggie, they sent me another.  My reseller went bankrupt so I dealt directly with MSI, and they were very profesional.
    They sent me a KT3Ultra2.
    I just plugged all my hardware up as it was, and I was going.  But after a day I have started to notice a problem that is so fiercly aggravating that I am going to chew my arms off. here we go:
    *I am running windows 2000 pro.  SP3.
    *I have an Athlon 1800+,
    *1 Maxtor 40GB Hard drive
    *ATI 32MB DDR Graphics card(name escapes me, i'm an audio nerd)
    *M-Audio Audiophile 2496 soundcard
    *M-Audio Oxygen 8 Midi controller connected to onboard USB(not the bracket)
    *I am using a PS/2 mouse and kbd.
    *1 generic MAG monitor
    while running windows, under a load or not under a load, after about 15 minutes at the most, my mouse will lock.  the keyboard still works, and the CPU temperature and usage do not increase.  My Midi controller still works.  In short, everything runs great, but the mouse just won't last past a few minutes without gagging.   X( And yes, I know the mouse works because I've swapped it with others
    I have APIC turned off in the BIOS, quickboot disabled, and my FSB set at 133MHz, but no other changes have been made.
    I don't hae the manual for THIS board, only the last the Ultra, but the BIOS appears identical.  I have the optional D-Bracket connected at the point I connected it on the other board.   is this the problem?  The LED readout was so helpful....anyways, if anyone here has any advice or help, I would really appreciate it.  I'm at a loss.  I've done a clean install of windows 2000, and other than optimizing for background services and turning ACPI off(necessary for midi-latency reasons), no changes have been made to it.   My previous installation of Win2K did the same thing.

    no, one is a generic logitech wheel mouse, the other is a microsoft intellimouse.  I had no problems with this on the last board.  how are these two boards different?

  • KT3 Ultra2 And others HDD max Current

    ok peeps, new to this forum, but not exactly new to computing...
    i tried MSI with this one, but no reply...
    can i safely plug a load of 24mA onto the HDD LED header on my MoBo?  i know this is a 5v line, and as such i am reluctant to put a high current draw on it, as i just know it will make my important 5v voltage a bit wobbly.   should i make a low current switch box to switch the 5v and instead take the current from a 4pin Molex?
    incase anyone is wondering, its gonna power 2 TK CoolMod fans, which are 12mA per fan (for the HD Activity LEDs anyway)  i am gonna mod the power lights onto a 4pin Molex anyway, as i really really dont want lots of 5v load...
    oh, and i have a 400W  HyperX PSU
    there is also, 1 dual channel cold cathode inverter, with 12" cathodes, the 2 TK Smart Fan][s, and a third one on the CPU, two 80mm LED'd case fans (intake) and a cute little CoolerMaster active northbridge fan cooler that i made from an old p3 heatsink i had lying around!

    ok thanks for the information.... however i am a total n00b when it comes to even slightly advanced electronics.   i can make switch boxes, and turn LEDs on and off allong with fans and the like, but much past that and i am lost, i can solder very well thou!   ok, if i follow the AND gate route, and i put 5V in one input, and the HDD 3V (or whatever), will i get 8V at the output?  if so, would i have to put 2V in instead, to get my 5V output?
    the transistor method also sounds pretty easy, however all the cuircuts i have seen using transistors have had capacitors in them connecting to ground and such like...  is it really as easy as u suggested?  any PNP tranie that can take the voltage and current draw would work?
    anyway, you have been hugely helpful so far!  i thought i would have to make a switch box.  i have ages to do this mod anyway, i still havent got my MoBo back from RMA  ;(

    Just wanted to let you know that I have experienced the same characteristic on a Kt3 Ultra2 and onboard audio.  I have also noticed a similar situation with Windows XP using a Creative SB Live 5.1 on a K7M mobo and a Santa Cruz sound card on an A7V333 mobo.
    I will also be interested in finding out how to make a change to enable controlling the audio level on the analogue CD ROM input.  I believe it is a Win XP issue and not an issue with the KT3 Ultra2 onboard audio or its associated driver.

    Has anybody gotten a Radeon 8500 to work with the KT3 Ultra2 in multimonitor mode, and in WinXP sp1?  No matter what I do (uninstall/reinstall drivers, etc)  the Radeon 8500 will not fire up in multi monitor mode; all I get is two monitors with the same desktop.  The radeon worked fine in multimon on my old Abit KG7.

    The rendering errors at the bottom border of the "Cinnamon Settings" window and the white boxes between the chromium tabs. These are more or less permanent, they stay there until the window is destroyed, and reappear quickly after the window is first rendered. The white noise looking things on the chromium window stay there until the window repaints itself. Moving the chromium window causes the white noise to start flickering.
    The screen froze when I opened a nautilus window and tried to resize it. Xorg.0.log doesn't mention any errors.
    This doesn't happen in Cinnamon 2D, so I assume it has something to do with the OpenGL implementation.

    The .wad (data file containing all the game's assets) isn't corrupted. The engine itself might be, as the sprites are always corrupted in the same way. Note the barrel on the right side that has parts of a lower resolution version of itself (mipmapping) and blue armour, the light thingy in the middle that contains a lower resolution of itself and a shotgun ammo, and the pillar in the other room that is just not nice to look at. Moving away or towards the sprite (which effectively changes the mipmap level rendered) might make the sprite look as it is supposed to be.
