I found a solution in this post. Just added this line "a1:2345:wait:/sbin/agetty -a USERNAME -8 -s 38400 tty1 linux" before "c1:2345:respawn:/sbin/agetty -8 -s 38400 tty1 linux" to my inittab.

  • Problem when upgrading from Gnome 3.0 to 3.2 [SOLVED]

    Hi,
    I've been fighting for 2 days trying to fix this problem: after having upgraded from Gnome 3.0 to 3.2, I can't login anymore (I have this message telling me that something wrong happened and I should try again).
    Here is what I tried:
    - Removing ~/.config ~/.gconf and ~/.gnome2
    - Connecting with a fresh new user
    - Reinstalling gnome-shell
    - pacman -S cogl
    - http://justin.jetfive.com/gnome-32-arch … in-problem
    But unfortunately it didn't help...
    Here is the output of my ~/.xsessions-errors : http://pastebin.com/4dbMFDsY
    [FYI I'm also running xfce4.8]
    Any idea?
    Thanks in advance!

    I had the same problem when I did the upgrade the very same day of the release. And the solution for me was to login using my battery. For some reason, GDM won't let me in if I'm plugged (I know it sounds crazy, but it works for me)
    Best of luck

  • [SOLVED] Random logout from Gnome 3

    Hi all,
    For about a week now I have been experiencing random logouts while running Gnome 3. I can't find any connection with what I am doing at the time except *maybe* that the computer is under load (numerical simulations, sometimes running into Swap space). I found a few other posts saying it might be a Xorg server crash, so am posting the text from Xorg.0.log.old.
    It seems there might be a problem with my nvidia driver... anyone have any experience with this?

    Well, I can't say whether your logouts are caused by the nvidia driver, but there' s a way to figure that out - switch to Nouveau. Just for diagnostic purposes, you don't have to keep using it after you solve this, but the proprietary nvidia driver is giving trouble quite a few people, so I think it might be worth a shot.

  • OS crashed and cannot switch to console model when logout from gnome

    after update gnome to 3.2,  when I logout login account or switch user with gnome. the os dead.
    I have to reset pc to reboot it.
    should this isskue relate to gnome update?

    What do you mean by "dead"? For me, dead is complete system freeze. Are you thrown to a TTY console? Is it just a blinking cursor? What's the problem?

  • Problems starting X and gnome (Solved)

    I have just installed Arch, and installed and configured xorg as is says in the wiki, X worked with twm, so I installed gnome and gnome-extra also with the Gnome wiki, then , when using the gnome-session command to open gnome it gives me the following error message:
    "Gtk-WARNING **: Cannot open display:"
    So I configured the ~/.xinitrc file and added the exec gnome-session line to make gnome the default, restarted and when using the startx command it gives me this message:
    "(EE) xf86OpenSerial: Cannot open device /dev/mouse No such file or directory
    (EE)Mouse1: Cannot open input device

    And nothing happens, im still in the command line, can anyone help me out?

    If you've recently updated udev, then yes, I'm pretty sure you need to update the kernel alongside it - there are patches in the newer kernels that work with udev.

    I am experience a similar problem, my iphone 4 either turns off by itself or I am unable to answer a call. Everything just blocks. After contacting 2 different apple service spots still no answer as to how can we fix the problem. Worse, I am unable to revert back to ios 5.1.1 where everything worked just fine.

  • [solved] init 5 and logout from Xorg session -- crash

    Hi guys and gals!
    Hope this is the right forum.
    I have a strange issue here with restarting Xorg sessions. As long as I just boot up or use Ctrl+Alt+Backspace to start and shutdown X, there's no problem at all, session manager (kdm) comes up properly and everything is just fine. But if I logout from the environment  (KDE3), Xorg crashes and I get a black screen with a blinking cursor or even full of strange y" symbols on vc/7.
    On the other virtual consoles I'm able to run startx and this is still in runlevel 5!

    Of course, I can switch to runlevel 3 and then 5 again to get a session manager, but you have to be root for this and I got other users here. So this is quite stupid.
    I can't remember to had this problem before, it seems to be since my update yesterday. Repositories only current, extra and community, pacnew files are all merged with my configs. Don't see any cause.
    Can anyone help me with this?
    Thanks.

    This is already in another thread : http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=43799
    It's probably a nvidia bug, but there is a workaround given at the end of the other thread.

  • [SOLVED] HUGE Black Border In All Apps from Gnome

    Even if already solved, I want to give some extra tipps, how it can be decent looking and usable again. Taken from the wiki you can add this lightly reduced and modified lines to the ~/.config/gtk-3.0/gtk.css file:
    .window-frame, .window-frame:backdrop {
    box-shadow: 0 0 0 black; /* removes shadow completely */
    border-style: none;
    margin: 1; /* this retains the ability to resize with the mouse, if 1px is too narrow, set some higher values */
    border-radius: 0;
    As for myself, I am using Openbox as wm, Numix as theme and the rest are the xfce environemnt. The effects are all disabled, which results in these black borders in the first place. If you use tiling wm and keyboard only, set the margin to 0 for zero frame and maximum.. content.
    With other words, no need to change themes, blame the.. hmm, wo exactly allowed this to be happen anyway..? Whatever..
    Greetings and good luck
    Hi, thank you, i also use numix as the theme for openbox, as i do not want to change my theme from numix, i must say that your solution is great! it works on my pc~~~~thank u very much~thank u~

  • Problems with Yahoo, I Cannot download files from my mail or logout from my account.

    Recently, I have discovered that I cannot logout from my Yahoo account without closing Firefox, which clears my history. Also, I have problems downloading files from my email. At first I thought maybe Yahoo was having some issues but when I use Safari, I don't have these problems. Any idea as to what my problem could be?

    I can't think any way in which Adobe Reader is involved in downloading pics from your camera. If you think Adobe is involved, check the name of the Adobe software you are using, they make lots of stuff.

  • Problem with logout in servlet After logging out i need to expire the pages

    I have a problem in logout using servlet.
    I introduced sessions in my page and while logout i used
    session.removeAttribute("name");
    session.removeAttribute("password");
    res.setHeader("Cache-Control","no-store"); //Directs caches not to store the page under any circumstance
         res.setDateHeader("Expires", 0); //Causes the proxy cache to see the page as "stale"
         res.setHeader("Pragma","no-cache"); //HTTP 1.0 backward compatibility
    String user=(String)session.getAttribute("name");
              System.out.println(user);
              if(user==null)
                   System.out.println("hi");
                   req.setAttribute("Error", "Session has ended. Please login.");
                   res.sendRedirect("http://localhost:8080/homepage.html");
    and after i logout im redirected to login page but after clicking back button im getting back to restricted pages(the pages b4 logout).
    what should i do?????

    Thanks Dear BalusC,
    I tried with this,
    rs.getString("DATA_SCAD1")// where the source from .xls files
    String pattern = "yyyy-MM-dd";
    SimpleDateFormat format = new SimpleDateFormat(pattern);
    try {
    Date date = format.parse("DATA_SCAD1");
    System.out.println(date);
    } catch (ParseException e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
    System.out.println(format.format(new Date()));
    this out put gives me Tue Apr 03 00:00:00 IST 2007
    But I want to display the date format in yyyy-mm-dd.
    regards,
    maza

  • Problem emailing photos from iPhoto after installing OS 10.5.1

    Since installing Leopard I have had problems emailing photos from iPhoto. I can send from my laptop to another Mac without problem BUT when I try to email pix from iPhoto to a PC user or to post on my Google Group board it only sends the 'title' I gave it in iPhoto or the 'PC134567.JPG' the camera assigns it. I have tried exporting and attaching to emails but that doesnt work either .. at least not all the time. AND when I do send them from iPhoto to my office PC they arrive NOT as an attachment but are embedded in the email message .. seriously what the heck is going on and why is this not working the way it used to pre-OS 10.5.1? What changed? How can I make this work the way it used to?
    Thanks for reading and hopefully solving my problem

    Thank you again .. I got home and immediately tried the fix you suggested .. sent a 'test' email and it worked perfectly.
