Problem waking imc after sleep since installing mountain lion

I installed mountain lion and since then when the computer sleeps for more than 1 hour, I come back to a blank screen. Initially I could use the mouse as a chalk board eraser and uncover the login most of the time. This showed a white box erasing a black screen. Recently, I come back to a grey screen with a black box that does not move in response to the mouse or arrows. I have to do a hard shut down and then restart to use the imac. I run Norton antivirus scans regularly and they have not found a virus.
Thanks Paul. I tried it and it didn't work. I completely removed the program. There are reports of MAC mountain lion viruses I found online and I still worried. I did not find any other cause for the situation though. Interestingly, Norton came out with upgrades that claimed to fix the problem I was having and stated it was now compatible with the new OS.
Downloading the newest version of Norton and installing it from scratch ( my subscription was still good) did resolve the issue.
I believe there was some part of the old program that hung around and was not uninstalled completely. This must have been fixed with the latest vs installation.
I have used Norton almost as long as I have been using Macs. ( since the first Macintosh). I have found and been able to remove viruses before. I am skeptical that any OS will eliminate the need for virus protection.

Problems waking up after sleep since 10.8.3 update
A couple of weeks ago, I updated to 10.8.3. Since then, I have been having difficulty waking the machine after sleep. I get the constant beach ball. On a forced restart, I will get the spinning gear followed by the prohibitory sign, like it can't find the OS. I have tried rebooting in safe mode, resetting PRAM/NVRAM, repaired disk and disk permissions with disk utility, checked the status of hardware with (AHT), reinstalled OS X (twice), but the problem persists. I'm at a loss and have no idea what else to do.
I'm seriously regretting upgrading from Snow Leopard at all.
I've been trying to run time machine to back everything up, but my external USB backup disks keeps randomly unmounting, so I can't even get a solid backup now.
Please help. No, it has nothing to do with being Friends or not.
There are more and more security issues with java, Oracle comes with updates almost every few weeks. Until lately Apple had it in theuir distribution system, but because of the security issues decided that it was not good business to distribute automatically this leaky system. So with new system updates the Java is removed to make sure the customers reinstall the latest version. You can download from both Oracle and Apple, but don't download from any other source.
Luckily I do not need it anymore and have not installed Java since a few months. -
Since installing Mountain Lion i have a problem with Mail. I delete a number of messages from the same person but keep the newest message in my Inbox. I actually delete them from the Trash. The next time i open Mail the deleted messages are back again. Can anybody please help as this is getting annoying. Thanks in Anticipation.
Problems such as yours are sometimes caused by files that should belong to you but are locked or have wrong permissions. This procedure will check for such files. It makes no changes and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
First, empty the Trash.
Triple-click the line below to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
find ~ $TMPDIR.. \( -flags +sappnd,schg,uappnd,uchg -o ! -user $UID -o ! -perm -600 -o -acl \) 2> /dev/null | wc -l
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
The output of this command, on a line directly below what you entered, will be a number such as "41." Please post it in a reply. -
Hi, since installing mountain lion on my macbook, it wont download pdf files from internet sites, the same problem does not exist on my mac mini, i am using firefox on both macs, please help!
Back up all data.
Quit Safari. In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder... from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Copy the line of text below into the box that opens, and press return:
/Library/Internet Plug-ins
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then launch Safari and test.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again. -
Since installing Mountain Lion, Outlook 2011 crashes
Since installing Mountain Lion, Outlook 2011 crashes. A few seconds after opening I get this error message
"Microsoft Outlook must be closed because an error occurred. Any unsaved work may be lost."
Tried rebooting, haven't yet tried reinstalling Outlook from disc.
Other apps seem OK so far.
Help is greatly appreciated.Reinstalling Office 2011 did not fix the problem, but on the Microsoft.com/mac site I found instructions for rebuilding the Outlook database (Identity). This worked, I no longer have the problem with Outlook 2011 Mac.

Replicable crash since installing Mountain Lion
I seem to be having a near fatal crash since upgrading my Late 2008 Macbook Pro to Mountain Lion. When I pause and unpause a Youtube video everything freezes and the logout text screen (the verbose mode text that you see when the system is logging out) is overlayed onto the Safari 6.0 browser and then the computer restarts itself! This has never occured in my entire life of owning an Apple computer (since the early 1980s) and now it happens about 50% of the time since installing Mountain Lion.
Initially I did an upgrade from Lion as I have upgrade all of my Macs since the beginning of OS X, but after the first crash, I did a completely clean install (wiped and reformatted the hardrvie which is less than one year old) and reinstalled Mountain Lion from a USB key backup that I made. Problem still occurs.
Any help is greatly appreciated as this is quite worrysome! Below is the error log I received upon restart:

Is anyone else losing their internet connection since installing mountain lion?
since installing mountain lion when I come home from work safari won't pick up the internet connection without rebooting. Once rebooting everything works fine until the next day when I incur the same issue. Any thoughts?
Are you on 10.8.2 as ypur profile says? If so, it's worth updating to 10.8.3 which was released last week.

Here's a link to some suggestions that helped some users with similar problems in Lion. May still be relevant to MLion. Also check the links within the article:

Also when I had wifi problems in the past, creating a new network location resolved it:

I've also seen threads where users with wifi problems have successfully solved them by changing the channel in the router's wifi settings. -
I am having issues with my external hard drives since installing Mountain Lion

Do you mean, when you select it to be used for backups, the Preferences window shows "none"? If so, that's not a problem. That doesn't get updated until the next backup to that disk is finished. See #B3 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting -

Cannot send mail since installing mountain lion
I'm using aol mail. I receive mail with no problems. Since installing Mountain Lion on my new Mac when I try to send mail I get a message that I can't send using aol server. Mail settup indicates everything is working fine. I have no problems sending mail with a Macbook Pro and a PC on the same wireless network.
This seemed to work for me: First be sure all your mail is stored on the server (eg AOL) or you may lose it. If it is NOT stoerd on the server, DON'T DO THIS
In Mail Preferences / accounts, use the -(minus) sign to delete All of your accounts one by one
Now use the + to add account, and reinstall all of your accounts one by one.
It does seem to work and mail is now sent -
since installing mountain lion on my late 2008 aluminum macbook the cd/dvd super drive isnt working won't play or import media/music just ejects cd.
Any Ideas ?Have you set System Preferences/CDs & DVDs to what you want to happen? This helped one person.
Here is an Apple support article, but the information is pretty basic:
