Problems after restore

Yesterday I restored my iPad and reinstalled iWork for iPad. Now my dockkeyboard Apple and my wireless keyboard Apple do not work. My keyboards work well with others apps.
Could you help me ?

Hi Michelmags and welcome....
One of the iWork apps may be frozen, try force quitting.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on top of iPad for a few seconds until a red slider appears, then press and hold the Home button until the application quits. Try a keyboard.
If that didn't help, restart your iPad.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPad. To turn iPad back on, press and hold the Sleep/Wake until the Apple logo appears.

  • Time Machine problem after restoring to a new HD (after my original HD failed)

I am running Lion 10.7.5 on a MacBook Pro Late '11
My HD was getting SMART errors, so I did a complete back up using Time Machine using a WD My Passport 1TB external, and then sent my MBP to Apple for HD replacement (under my Applecare plan).
I collected it yesterday and restored my system using Time Machine (using the data from my external HD) and everything was restored perfectly, which was great,
However, I'm now encountering a problem after plugging my external HD back into my MBP on the new system. Rather than Time Machine doing a swift 'top up' back up, it appears that TM is attempting to do a full back up. (I have 300GB and it took nearly 24hours to backup on the faulty drive) Is this normal after installing a new HD? Bearing in mind the Time Machine data is still on my external drive?
It's also appearing to be taking FOREVER to do this entire back up again. It is stuck on 'preparing back up' and when I do get some movement, it's doing a couple of KB's at a time and with no genuine back up progress.
Fundamentally, I just want to just top up my Time Machine back up without having do a complete back up, again. (which doesn't actually seem possible, viable at the min)
Any help / support would be much appreciated

AFAIK, it'll do that since the HD has a different UUID and the old TM backup won't recognize it. See Pondini's TM FAQs, for starters.

  • [SOLVED] More rsync problems after restore... Read only filesystem?

Yesterday I backed up all of my data with rsync to a USB thumb drive. Surprisingly it all fit, but my intentions were to wipe my disk and create a new partition scheme for a dualboot while still being able to continue where I left off with arch. So after backing up with the script from the arch wiki titled full system restore with rsync, I followed the rest of that page, and modified the fstab on the backup on the USB and reconfigured grub and restarted my computer and I was able to boot into the USB. Then, I decided that it would be easier to just use the live cd to repartition and pacstrap the base system and generated an fstab. Next, I chrooted from the livecd environment into the newly built base and installed rsync. I then mounted my USB to /mnt in the chrooted environment and used
    rsync -aAXv /mnt/ARCH_BACKUP/* / --exclude={/mnt/ARCH_BACKUP/etc/fstab,/mnt/ARCH_BACKUP/boot/grub/}
I just did this since I figured that all of the directories excluded in the script wouldn't really have to be excluded here since they were already empty. Everything seemed to run smoothly except for one file(or maybe directory?) called /etc/resolv.conf.t.jbnW2 which kept giving an error. I figured the file was unique to the USB or something and continued to reinstall grub and then reboot. The weird thing is that everything was back on my system, but it didn't automatically boot into a display manager which it's set up to do. Then when trying to manually start x, that wouldn't work. Then I tried to connect to wifi, it recognized my network but wouldn't connect, so I tried sudo su, which worked but returned an error that the var file system was read only. I then tried to use rsync again thinking maybe that directory would transfer now that I wasn't in the chrooted environment. But instead, it was trying to restore every single file, but every one returned the error "filesystem is read only".
It seems like when I restored all of the files in my entire system were made read only.
Can anyone tell me what may have caused this and how to fix it?
I think it may either be that when I mounted the device in the chrooted environment I didn't specify 'rw' capabilities, or it may be that when I backed up I didn't specify 'rw' capabilities I just opened the file manager and clicked on it and it automagically mounted to /media/.

Ok, well I fiixed it. I had edited the fstab on the usb to be able to boot into the usb, and, while I edited it again on the hdd each time I restored from the backup, I didn't realize that the top entry /dev/sda1 (which is my root partition) was on a line that was commented out.  I guess I accidentally hit the backspace button or something while editing it to be able to boot into the usb.
Also, I think there was a second problem, that my usb controller is starting to fail. Because on the last time that I backed up, if I moved my computer or anything I would get a I/O error. This was caused by the failing usb controller. The computer would remount it as read-only because of the failure. The solution to this was to use
    hdparm -r0 /dev/sdxy
Note: The device must be unmounted.
Where x is the device and y is the partition number, for me this was sdb1.
    Then mount specifying read-write option.
    mount -o rw /dev/sdxy /media/<BACKUP>
    I also tried
    mount -o remount,rw /dev/sdxy /media/<BACKUP>
as was recommended on all of the sites that I could find, but this command kept returning an error.
Note: For newer users, Arch does not automatically create the media folder as it doesn't provide automatic mounting of external drives. If such is the case, and you haven't installed a desktop environment with a file manager that will automatically do this for you when the device is recognized, you must make the media directory and the directory which you intend to mount to manually.
    # mkdir /media
    # mkdir /media/<BACKUP>
Where <BACKUP> can be whatever you want it to be.

  • Time Machine Problem after restore

I had a hard drive crash, and after repair, I restored from a time machine back.  Everything seemed fine, although a few sets of photos were missing from iPhoto.  After things seemed to be fine I have started doing time machine backups again.
My problem is that they take a very long time to complete.  I expected the first one or two to take a long time, but not since then.  I have given it weeks to make sure that it has had enough time.
Every single time the verifcation stage shows 10s of thousands of files.  Even if I have not made any changes.  In my console log I see:
    6/7/12 11:17:34 AM
    com.apple.backupd[61578]
    Node requires deep traversal:/Users/dersh/Pictures/iPhoto Library reason:contains changes|must scan subdirs|fsevent|missed reservation|
For every single backup.  It seems like it is not actually fixing this.  From googling around, I expect that this should take a long time the first time or two, but then should finish.  It then says that it is backing up about 600 meg.  The exect number seems to change with each backup, depending on what I am doing, and what changes I have made.  But even if I do nothing, it still is in that range.  It then appears to complete, although it takes a long time.  I would guess that since it is doing the deep traverse it then has to match up a bunch of files, so doing the actual backup takes much longer then it should.  For example it might sit for a good few minutes at "backing Up:  105.2 MB of 580.2 MB" Then it moves on to 107.6.  Finally, the cleanup takes a very long time.  So overall each backup is taking 10s of minutes.  Even if I am not doing anything with the computer.
I am using a firewire drive directly connected to the computer.  I have done a repair of the external time machine drive, and have done a verify of the internal drive, with no issues.
I see that I have plenty of space on the external drive.
So, it seems like what is happening is that it doesn't "know" that it has done a succesful backup of iPhoto, each time so it does a deep traverse  and then backsup something like 600 meg of data from there.  How can I get it to "understand" that it has done this?  Can I force it to do it once correctly, so that it will take?
    Any other suggestions?

    UPDATE
Happen to have a QNAP NAS from work at the house which has Time Machine support and can select and initiate a backup there, no problem!
So, it's something about the Mac Mini or drive? I didn't do anything to the Mac Mini in the process other than removing the USB drive and plugging it back in.
As far as the drive, I dumped it and re-partitioned it with two partitions one for the Mini and one for the iMac. The Mac Mini is backing up to it locally, no problem.

  • Startup problem after restore in recovery mode

    Hello,
My iPhone 5S stuck in apple logo and did not start to home screen. I found that the best solution is restore in recovery mode, but it did not work. my device started but made the apple logo loop. seems that it start and shot down. even the iTunes could not recognize it.
After two days of having this problem, disappointedly I put the wake up bottom and I saw that my iPhone started but in factory setting. Non of my data on it. I was happy until I made a restore to get back my data, apps, contacts, that the same problem of startup happened.
    Can anybody help?

The backup data seems to be damaged, you'll have to start all over again without the latest backup, sorry.
iOS: How to back up your data and set up your device as a new device
If you are using iTunes on the computer, there might be more than one backup listed in iTunes/Edit/Preferences/Devices, check the article mentioned above for more info. If there is, use this one to restore from, to get at least some settings and data back. If there is no other backup listed, your backup data can't be used anymore, sorry.

  • Problems after restoring iPhoto library

I have had a number of problems with iPhoto since restoring my photo library after a hard drive failure. Apple replaced the hard drive and I restored the photo library from a DVD backup.
    The problems with iPhoto are:
    1. When attaching my digital camera to import new photos the import goes OK, except the new photos are not added as a new film roll. They are placed (seemingly randomly) in a film roll that is 2 years old.
After this if I sort the library by date they appear at the end (as would be expected), but if I quit iPhoto and reopen it later the newly imported photos are gone. iPhoto prompts me to recover missing photos when I open it and it does so, but the recovered photos are just file numbers and grey-dashed boxes -- no actual photos.
    2. iPhoto has started moving photos from years ago to the end of my library (ie the most recent) and re-dating them with todays date.
I hope I have explained my issues adequately, they are making my head spin!
I would very much appreciate any advice.

    M&C:
I trashed the iPhoto Library File on the desktop
What file would that be, the Library6.iPhoto file? If it were on the desktop then it would not have any effect on the library. That's the file that can get corrupted for a number of reasons, some of which seem to come out of the blue. It's usually due to an interruption while that database file is being written to and it's left open and, thus, damaged. Users have reported it going bad after shutting down for the night and the next day it's gone bad.
For that reason I suggest you look at the tip at the end of my signature for a way to protect against it.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file. You can put it in the Dock and click on it after every import or any extensive editing/organizational effort in the library. You want iPhoto dormant when you make the copy.

OK I hve just had my iPad2 restored and backed up to perfect after a couple weeks of this mess.
Major thanks to Rose in Apple Support 2nd tier senior superstar for sticking with this issue to resolve
It worked for me today after doing this 10-15 times previous - I beleive some server settings were adjusted and ow we are good to go!
    to fix:
    1. delete the ipsw file from ~/Library/iTunes/iPad Software Updates
    2. put the device into recovery mode by powering it off with the plug in the device, hold the home button while plugging into the computer.
    3. unplug the device while the download is coming down unless its less than 5 min.
    4. put the device in recovery mode again
    5. restore the device

  • IMovie and iPhoto problem after restoring iPhone 5 from backup

Isnt iMovie and iPhoto supposed to be free for iPhone 5 when we bought it?
When i first tried my iphone, imovie and iphoto is there. i even tested it. then after yesterday i restore it from my backup on my Macbook Air, those 2 apps are gone. I dont know what went wrong.
My previous phone is iPhone 4. So supposedly i restore it from the iphone 4 backup data. I doubt that would be the problem, isnt it?

iMoive and iPhoto are not free apps. If you purchased them on your iPhone they should available to download again on your new iPhone.

I had to restore my iPod touch since I had forgotten the pass code and after I restored it, I chose to restore everything from iCloud but I didn't remember my iCloud username and so now everything is gone! All my photos, games, and settings are gone. I'm thinking about getting somebody from Apple to help me get it back...if anyone has anything to say that's helpful in this situation, please voice it! I need serious help with this.

You user ID is an email address. Are you saying you used a different email address for your iClould account other than the ID/email address you used for purchasing apps/music?

Both servers are on 2008 r2 ENT.
About 3-4 months ago we have accidentely delete DAG node from domain. We have managed to restore it from domain with using AD RESTORE and checking that DAG is member of all the required Exchange groups in the domain.
Now we are having some big problems if site-to-site-vpn dropps, our primary Exchange server in SITE1 is not working.
If VPN dropps between the sites, OWA gets unavailable as it Exchange servers would think that Exchange in SITE2 is primary server.
Please advice us how to track and repair the root of the problem.

  • T420s wireless driver problem - after restore/reinstall

    i have a 420s that works fine.
but something went strange with the wireless after one of the updates, not sure if it was windows or lenovo update.
in any event, i tried reinstalling the driver, and it stayed broke.  so i rolled back the computer to a week or so earlier.
this fixed the wireless, but broke a few other applications not lenovo related.
after manual updates on those programs everything works again.
so fast forward to today.  i did the lenovo update, and it decided that it needed to update the intel wirless driver package, since it was never installed.  **bleep**?  but i figured how bad could it be, AFTER i set a new restore point, so the only thing that would get restored was the wireless if it went strange on me.
after the update, wireless broke again.  not entirely sure what was wrong, but it just didnt work right and wouldnt connect or see some known access points.
question;  what is the proper method to completely deinstall/reinstall the wireless drivers and 'access connections' on this computer so that everything works properly?
    thanks for any insight
    mark

    hey markgca,
try uninstalling the wireless driver. let windows install its own generic drivers.
test again with the generic drivers.

  • Problem after restoring from Time Machine.

So I just upgraded my imac with a new hard drive. I used a 500mg external drive for my backup. The Time Machine restore happened flawlessly. But now instead of TM backing up anything new from my computer, it wants to back up the entire hardrive (which I can't do, because I don't have enough space. So it seems like it's not recognizing the previous backups...make sense? Please help...

This is normal after you completely reinstall. If you don't have space on the backup drive then you will need to erase the backup drive (use Disk Utility) then allow TM to do a new full backup.
You need a backup drive that's at least twice the capacity of the drive in your computer if you use TM, otherwise eventually you will run out of space on the backup drive. When that happens you have to erase the drive or replace it with a larger drive.
For more help with TM you should read these User Tips at the top of the page.
