Problems conecting to WPA security access point [solved]

I am trying to set up a wireless in my university (to the access point). I have IBM ThinkPad R61 notebook with Intel ipw4965 wireless card. I have installed ipw4965, iwlwifi, netcfg2, wpa_supplicant by pacman and I have succsesfully configured my home wireless with WPA security. Has anybody any suggestions what is wrong with my configuration?
University gives this information:
The example of .config:
CONFIG_IEEE8021X_EAPOL = y
CONFIG_EAP_MD5 = y
CONFIG_MSCHAPV2 = y
CONFIG_EAP_TLS = y
CONFIG_EAP_PEAP = y
The example of wpa_supplicant.conf:
network={
ssid="MIF"
eap=PEAP
key_mgmt=WPA-EAP
identity="my user name"
password="my password"
phase1="peaplabel=0"
phase2="auth=MSCHAPV2"
My configuration:
My wpa_supplicant.conf:
ctrl_interface=/var/run/wpa_supplicant
eapol_version=1
ap_scan=1
fast_reauth=1
network={
ssid="MIF"
eap=PEAP
key_mgmt=WPA-EAP
identity="my username"
password="my password"
phase1="peaplabel=0"
phase2="auth=MSCHAPV2"
My [mifwifi] (wireless profile in /etc/network.d/mifwifi):
DESCRIPTION="MIF wireless"
CONNECTION="wireless"
INTERFACE=wlan0
SCAN="yes"
SECURITY="wpa"
ESSID="MIF"
USEWPA="yes"
IP="dhcp"
TIMEOUT=20
WPAOPTS=""
When I try to run [netcfg2 mifwifi] to set up university wireless I get the error similar to this:
ctrl_interface=/var/run/wpa_supplicant
ctrl_interface_group=0
Passprase must be between 8..63 characters
P.S. Sorry for my language mistakes, I just learning English.

Hello,
If you want to use your wpa_supplicant.conf file, you should set SECURITY="wpa-config" in your netcfg2 profile, and add WPA_CONF=/path/to/wpa_supplicant.conf (in the same file).  The passphrase error is probably caused by the fact that netcfg2 is not reading your wpa_supplicant conf file, and there is no password defined anywhere else.

  • IOS 6.0.1 - Problems with certificate based authentication on wireless access point

    Hi all
    We are using iPad 2 as order terminals in our shops for about 5 months. Some of the iPads (the first who entered the field) started to cause problems now. These iPads are no longer able to keep long-term connection to the wireless access point in our stores. After selecting the SSID a successful authentication using the stored EAP-TLS certificate is performed (this can be seen in the log files of our wireless controller and by the IP adress that is given by DHCP). But within seconds the affected iPads opening up a captive portal page (empty, without contents) and separates the connection to the SSID after a short time again.
    Affected are currently only iPads 2 with iOS 6.0.1, which were staged about 5 months ago. The newer devices with iOS 6.1+ connect without problems and open no captive portal page. The first cases occurred on the last Wednesday. Before that everything worked without difficulty. No modifications took place on the security structure.  The numbers of affected devices increased until all iOS 6.0.1 were affected.
    Access to other SSIDs (without use of certificates, by entering a key) for the devices is still possible (the devices does not open an captive portal page). The DHCP scope is not used up, so there are enough IP addresses available.
    "Newer iPads" with an iOS of 6.1+ are are showing no problems on the same wireless access point, where the older devices are rejected. New and old devices use the same certificates and authentication mechanisms.
    In the analysis of the issue, it turned out that  the problem can be solved by an update to iOS 6.1.3. Subsequently, the iPads will be able to rebuild a connection with the access point, without a captive portal page.
    Since the bandwidth is very narrow dimensioned in our stores, the communication of the iPads was severely restricted. Thus, the iPads are for exampleare accessible for the APNS but can not find iOS updates or check for their availability.
    A comprehensive update to iOS 6.1.3 is currently excluded.
    Does anyone knows this issue? What else can be done (except from updating)?

    I will answer my own question in case it helps anyone else.
    It would "seem" the ios 6 devices try the proxy and if that is not working they resort to the def gateway.
    To Fix I did the following:
    Brocade WIFI network has IPS and Advanced Firewall rules that seemed to be tthwarting some traffic, the iphones would then try the default gateway and be blocked at the FW.
    I disabled the IPS and the Advanced Firewall Settings on the wifi as they are redundant to our main IPS and firewall that all traffic flows through anyway.  I will tune it later, but when the CEO is demanding a fix "**** the security, full speed ahead"
    Created some rues on the firewall to allow...
    - IMAP-SSL (port993) outbound
    - SMTPS (port 465) to yahoo servers outbound
    - tcp port 587 to yahoo servers outbound
    - https to akamai servers
    Most http and https goes through the proxy as it should, BUT...
    It seems that the akamai traffic allways ignores the wifi proxy settings and just heads straight for the default gateway.  I suspect there is a bug in the icloud app?
    Hope this helps someone else.

  • Which Access Point?!

    I am assigned to implement a wireless network and i intend to use repeater mode in the building but, there is one problem, iam not sure which access point supports more than one MAC address to repeat to and the other to recieve (trying to input more than one MAC address in each AP for redundancy).
    Does anyone know a Cisco or non Cisco AP that supports more than one MAC address for repeating mode?
    Thanks.

    Depending on the size of the building, that approach may not work well in practice.
    Ignoring the potential bottleneck of the 100/1000 connection between the single AP and the WLC/Switch (depending if Autonomous or WLC), repeating the signal X amount of times also reduces the speed/throughput as mentioned by Leo above.
    If you only have a handful of clients using this Wireless Network, it may be fine but its definitely not suitable for a larger deployment where you expect to have maybe 10-15 people per AP.

  • Which access point does it please??!

    Hi aeronav01,
    What pinkyzeny suggested is fine. Bridge mode configuration might not be the right one for the set up you want. WAP300N has a repeater mode. You just have to make sure that the access points configured as a repeater should be facing in different directions to avoid interference. Or you may just configure it as a plain access point and create different networks for each. You may also refer to this link for Bridge Mode .

  • Access point 'internet'

    Today i bought a nokia E5
    i tried to change the settings but now i'm facing a problem
    i cannot delete the access point 'internet' (mobile data internet) it says 'access point in use, can not edit'
    is there a way to delete this point (as i dont want my cellphone to connect to mobile internet, (only wifi)
    greetings

    First off all i don't suggest to play online games on wireless since as we all know wireless is such an unstable media for connection.
    Can you tell me the distance between the computer and the router. Also what is in the direct environment of the network.
    Are you using a 2.4 GHz cordless phone. This device is can cause intermittent internet connection on wireless networks
    we still have to isolate the problem just in case something else is causing your problem.

  • Problems with AirPort and WPA access point

    Okay, I have done quite a bit of research and I still cannot resolve my problem because of this, I am turning to this user community.
    Here is what I know as of right now:
    I am running Windows OS X 10.4.4 with AirPort Update 2005-001. My Access Point is a 3COM 8250.
    The AP is setup not to broadcast its SSID, to use WPA-TKIP (or in Apple terminology, WPA Personal) and the password is set to use alphanumeric.
    When I try to connect my PowerBook with the SSID name, WPA Personal and the correct password, I get the following error:
    The password you entered is not correct for the Airport network *******.
    To troubleshoot here are the test I have run and their outcomes:
    Test
    - Result
    Set the AP to completely open
    - Connected
    Set the AP to open, didn't broadcast the SSID
    - Connected
    Set the AP to WEP, broadcast the SSID
    - Connected
    Set the AP to WEP, didn't broadcast the SSID
    - Connected
    Set the AP to WPA & WEP, broadcast the SSID
    - WEP : Connected
    - WPA : Not Connected
    Set the AP to WPA & WEP, didn't broadcast SSID
    - WEP:Connected
    - WPA:Not Connected
    Set the AP to WPA only
    - Not Connected.
    Now, I should mention that when I was running 10.3.3 I could not connect either. The AP is running the newest firmware and I have three Windows XP SP2 laptops / workstations that can connect with no problems.
    I have tried to find a compatibility matrix on both 3COM's and Apple's websites to see if it might be a compatibility issue but I have not been able to find one on either site.
    Any help that anyone could provide would be greatly appreciate.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello MisssAsh. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
    It's always a good idea to do a complete power recycle when changing network configurations.
    Try the following, in order, checking for Internet access after each step, until resolved:
    1. If the modem has a reset switch, use it to reset the modem. Wait at least 5-10 minutes for the modem to initialize.
    2. Remove power from the modem. If it has a backup battery, remove this as well. Wait 5-10 minutes. Replace the battery, and add power back to the modem.
    3. Perform a complete power recycle of your network components as follows:
    Modem/Router Power Recycling - Quick
    o Power-off the modem, AirPort Express Base Station (AX), & computer(s); Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the modem; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the AX; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s)
    If this fails to get the modem to "recognize" the Internet router, then try the "Full" version.
    Modem/Router Power ReCycling - Full
    o Power-off the modem, AX, & computer(s). (Wait at least 30 minutes. If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
    o Power-on the modem; Wait at least 15 minutes.
    o Power-on the AX; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s)
    4. Contact your ISP to have them perform a "modem reset."

  • LAPAC1750 Access Point Problem

    I have a device (Sony Xperia Z1 Compact) which cannot connect to the Access Point. The device can connect to other Access points (tried Motorola, Fritzbox, Cisco) without any problems.
    It does not matter what setting I configure on the LAPAC1750. It does not work for the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact.
    Any idea?

    Did Linksys ever get a resolution back to you?  I noticed they have not posted any new firmware since June (stil 1.05.00), and from other threads on other products it seems this is typically resolved with a firmware update.  I bought three LAPAC1750s to install in our large home on each of our three floors, and every device (PC and Mac laptops, iPad, Kindle Fire HD, iPod, iPhones) can connect to them EXCEPT my HTC One M8 running Android 4.4.4.  Shows same behavior you are seeing, will try to connect and then just disable it.  Same behavior on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz.

  • RE: How to secure an access point signal.

    Hi everyone,
    I have difficulty making my access point wireless signal secure. My network setup is simple, Modem to Router to Homeplug 1st floor, (secure wireless signal),
    2nd floor (secure signal). Problem when comes to 3rd floor, signal too weak, so I place Homeplug to Access Point. (wireless works well but not secured).
    Tried calling D-link support but was told that I need to fix static IP address before things can work. What the **** is that? Was told many technical issue about sub-net different, etc. Lastly the setup disc don't work with a Mac. (HaHa).
    Thank you all in advance for the solution.

    How are you going to connect them?  cat5 or coax?
    cat5 instructions:
    Can I use my wireless or an extra router along with the Verizon provided router?
    coax instructions:
    Can I get an ethernet connection in a room with only coax?

    The results show that you have a proxy server set and this can often cause problems with iTunes.
    The proxy setting can be accessed in Internet options>>Connections>>LAN Settings.
    Try un-checking the proxy server check box.
    It might also be a good idea to run a malware check if you didn't know you had the proxy server set.

  • Mimo access points with Static WEP security do not allow connection speeds above 54mbps

    I am getting this message:
    Access Connections - Mimo access points with Static WEP security do not allow connection speeds above 54mbps
    If I switch from WEP to WAP i do not get the message but I still only get 54mbps speed.  I have a Linksys Wireless-N Broadband Router.  Is there a setting that I am missing???

    Yes you need to use WPA-AES or WPA2-AES, or no encryption, to go faster than 54Mbps. This is part of the 802.11n spec.
    That's not so bad, because if you have the right 802.11n card and use the right settings you can go up to 300Mbps!
    What bites is that the 802.11n card which comes with X-Series ThinkPads is the Intel 4965AGN. It does not support the broader 802.11n 40MHz channel width option, limiting the top speed to 130Mbps .
    The new ThinkPads based on the Montevina/Centrino 2 platform will most likely use the Intel WiFi Link 5100/5300 802.11n/WiMax cards, which I hope will fix this, coz I'm going to buy one!

  • Problem with creating an Infrastructure Network (via Access Point) for WLS 9163.

    Hi,
    I am trying to connect the WLS 9163 to an Infrastructure Network (via an Access Point). I have connected it via an Ethernet cable and am using MAX to configure it.
    The setting are as below:
    Obtain IP Address through: DHCP
    Country: US
    Radio On: Yes
    SSID: wireless (selected from drop down implying the wireless network is detected)
    Wireless Mode: Infrastructure
    Authentication: Open
    After doing these settings, I click on Save Settings. The device reboots itself and takes the IP address, Subnet mask and default Gateway automatically. The WLS link LED on the device is also turned on. The System State is 'Connected' and both the Wired and Wireless Connection Status is shown as 'UP'.
    So far so good.
    Now if I remove the wired connection and refresh the device, it does not get connected via wireless (which I believe it ideally should). The System State is shown as Disconnected.
    I am using a Phoenix Contact WAP and have set the authentication as Open.
    Please suggest some solution.

    I had this exact same problem and it took me a while to figure out. As strange as this sounds, I figured out that for some reason if I had the WLS-9163 too close to the router and I pulled the wired connection, the wireless connection could drop. I read on a post in a different forum about someone removing their antenna and it working just fine so I tried that and it worked off and on but mostly off. So I figured out that the further distance away I was the better the connection stability was and I got far enough away from the router to where it was a steady solid wireless connection. This sounds really backwards from what it should be and was really bizarre but I tried different routers, used all different types of settings, had the latest firmware and had all of the equipment sitting on my desk and could not get it working once I removed the wired connection. This may not solve your problem but this worked for me so I thought I'd share that info. I was just so shocked to figure out being too close to the router seemed to be screwing my stuff up.

  • Search function + Access Point problem

    I access the Google Search from the Search software pre-installed with the N97 and set the Network destination as "Internet".  I got 3-4 access points under "Internet" (4 if there is a saved wifi point).
    I have no problem at all conducting the search as it would use the 1st access point under Internet, but when I try to view one of the search results, which is opened in the native broswer of the phone, it would use another access point (the 3rd priority access point) to connect.
    Does anyone have any clues on how to resolve this?

    Hi, not sure if this will solve your problem but try:
    Select 'Web'
    Once there Click 'Options'
    Select 'Settings'
    Select 'General'
    Select 'Access Point'
    Choose 'Ask when needed'
    Hope this helps

  • IPhone 6 WiFi problem when using TP-Link TL-WA830RE access point

    I have a problem with the WiFi connection for my new iPhone 6 with IOS 8.1.1. When I connect to the access point, TP-Link TL-WA830RE, the connection fails every few minutes.
    However when I connect to the providers router, there is no problem at all.
    Other devices in my home work perfect with the TP-Link access point??? My Ipad, my wives iPhone and iPad etc...
    For now the workaround is OK for me but I am curious if other people have experienced the same problem.

    I was having the same issue. Try changing the WPA Encryption of your modem router to TKIP+AES. I hope that myt help.

  • Cisco Security Advisory: Access Point Memory Exhaustion from ARP Attacks

    I recieved this Cisco Advisory e-mail today. I have 1200 access points that I upgraded yesterday to 12.3(7)JA2, in which this problem was corrected. In the advisory it states to upgrade to this software release and to make a configuration change on each radio interface. I made this change on Dot11Radio0 interface and it took. I have 2 more interfaces ( Dot11Radio0.2 and Dot11Radio0.75) in which I get an error when I try to make this configuration change. I don't quite understand these interfaces, so I would like to know if I really need to make this change on the other 2 interfaces or is making the change on the 1st one enough. Any information is certainly appreciated. Thanks, Laurie Coles

    Since you have subinterfaces configured, you are apparently using
    VLANs on your APs. The ARP table is only relevant for the VLAN
    with the management IF, that is the native VLAN.
    For all other VLANs it's simply bridging, therefore no ARP table,
    and therefore this vulnerability doesn't apply here.
    So your only concern should be the native VLAN, and unless you
    need wireless access for managing your APs the best way for
    securing this would be to not configure a SSID for this VLAN.
    Then the only access to the AP would be over the Ethernet-IF.
    The security advisory is more important for APs configured
    without VLANs where wireless clients and the management IF
    of the AP are in the same (W)LAN.

  • I cannot change the wpa-psk on a AIR-AP1142N access point

    I am attempting to change the wpa-psk on a wireless access point. When i go under ssid config mode and type the command wpa-psk ascii 7 <14characterkey> it gives me the message "Invalid key length, expecting 18 to 128 characters". Currently we are using 10 character key that I want to change it from. I would assume that I would not have to use an at least 18 character key as currently we are not doing this. Can anyone explain to me what I am doing wrong? I really don't think that I have to use a 18 character key but I could be wrong as I am fairly new to configuring these. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    I think the problem is in the encryption mode.
    interface Dot11Radio0
      encryption mode ciphers wep128
    It's should be : encryption mode ciphers aes-ccm tkip
