Problems importing my library
I have been having trouble with itunes for months now, since I got my new laptop. Everytime I try to import my itunes library it appears to be there and then when I go back on all the music is gone from itunes. All the music is in the correct file and itunes is linked to this file I just do not what's going wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Becky
Its some software on the Vaio that is causing the problem. There are many posts about this issue. You can find them by searching for vaio. You need to either stop it from watching the itunes folders, or stop the vaio program that does it. I think there is an update to solve this problem on the sony site.

Having a problem import my library from an older version of 3
Apple replaced my computer. I did not import my old library before upgrading to aperture 3.3.1. I get a meessage when trying to import the library. "The library could not be imported because it is from an out of date version of Aperture 3. Please upgrade the library to the latest version of Aperture 3 and try again." I don't see how to upgrade the library so i can import it into the new version of aperture.

Problem importing large library
hey all
im running 9.02 on a macbook pro (one of the 13 inch alum ones, so its about a year old). i've never really got the nerve to import the music from my external hardware to my itunes until recently as i just got a new ipod. when i import the entire library (it's massive, about 170gigs), i get nothing but probelems. it begins running slow, and when the external is hooked up to the computer, itunes simply crashes and i'm forced to "force quit". all of these files are standard m4a's or mp3's and have worked independently on my old computer or to a lesser extent on my new computer, but when i try to put them ALL into my library, it doesnt seem to want to work... any ideas?Pecoradj wrote:
sorry, i didn't really describe the problem too articulately; the songs are all on the hard drive except for a few. it's like if the hard drive is plugged in, the tunes wont play and itunes will freeze, but if it's not plugged in, itunes wont freeze and i'll be able to play songs (only the few songs i have on my internal drive)...
Is your drive bus-powered?
When you try to move them to your mabook pro, what method are you using? -
Problems importing iPhoto library into Aperture 3
When I got my mac, I imported a collection of images on an external drive into iPhoto, and worked with them there. I also imported images from memory cards directly into iPhoto.
During the original import, I selected the "leave files in place" option. For the direct imports from memory cards, I just imported them. I didn't realize that it would bundle everything into a single file when I did that, and I wasn't expecting what I ran into next...
I finally purchased a copy of Aperture 3 for its more powerful tools and smoother workflow. After installing it, I imported my iPhoto library into it, with the leave in place option... and found that Aperture couldn't load most of the images. It shows placeholder frames instead.
I have tried reconnecting the masters, to no avail; their paths are correct, so they're not changing, and Aperture insists that the masters are missing before and after.
I tried repairing the database with the database first aid tool, and it had no effect.
I tried rebuilding the database, and the result was disastrous; after that I had *no* images in Aperture. None. Even the few that I'd imported directly from media into Aperture were gone.
So I restored my Aperture database from my TimeMachine backup which impressed me with how easy it was, and now I'm back where I started... most of the images imported from iPhoto are inaccessible in Aperture, so I can't use Aperture for most of my image editing, even though iPhoto reads them without any trouble.
Any suggestions?Frank:
Yes, all of the images are available in iPhoto, whether they're in the iPhoto library, or on the external drive.
Aperture isn't showing any symbol other than the dotted line frame, at least none that I've seen yet. I thought at first that it was the images on the external drive that were missing, but it's actually showing some of them, and not showing others even in some cases ones in the same folder. If a screenshot would help, I'll capture one (I don't know how to do that in OSX yet, though I suspect it's just a matter of the right key combo?).
CalxOddity: It's an OSX volume, but I'm not sure how to determine which filesystem it's using, or else I'd be more specific.
leonieDF: It is a network volume, one of the Time Capsule drives. Though I knew it would slow down loading, I didn't expect any other problems, since iPhoto doesn't have any.

Problem importing adf library jars
Hi all
I have a adf application (portalapp) into which I have attached another Application(partapp) as a ADF library jar. Once I add the jar, there seems to be a problem with loading the bindings from the databindings.cpx of the portalapp.
FacesContext fc = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
Object returnObject = fc.getELContext().getELResolver().getValue(fc.getELContext(), null,"data");
BindingContext bc = (BindingContext)returnObject;
DCDataControl *dcLookups* = bc.findDataControl("AMName"); The dclookups is null when I try to find an AM from the portalapp but returns the correct value when I try to access an AM from the partapp ( the application which is added as a jar)
Edited by: janak on Aug 4, 2011 8:31 AMAs per the documentation (chapter 33) when I add the external library to the project the Datacontrols from the JAR is not appearing in the datacontrols list. When I add the same JAR to a different project it works perfectly as expected.
In the debug output I get the following

Problem importing iTunes library from old PC to new PC using Windows 7
Hey guys,
I just recently upgraded my computer and have Windows 7 64bit. I have taken my old iTunes library folder and placed it on my iPod using Disc mode. I than have taken that library and have placed it in my music folder on my new computer. But when I open up iTunes none of my content is in there. I go back and look at my music folder and iTunes has created another folder.
Can anyone help me solve this problem?
Thanks so muchI have taken my old iTunes library folder and placed it on my iPod using Disc mode. I than have taken that library and have placed it in my music folder on my new computer
Did you copy the entire \Music\iTunes\ folder?
If so, hold Shift and launch iTunes.
Select *Choose library*.
Select the _iTunes library.itl_ file in \Music\iTunes\ folder. -
Setup problem importing library from external hard drive
my old iMac died, and I am setting up iPhoto on my new iMac (10.7.2). I had backed up my iPhoto library to an external hard drive before the old iMac went kaput. However, when I try to import this library when setting up iPhoto, the Library file itself is inhibited / not selectable.
I also tried copying the Library to my Pictures folder on the new iMac, but that is failing (error code -36) about a third of the way through. That incomplete file, also, is inhibited.
appreciate any suggestions on how to confront this problem. thanks. Thanks, Terence.
When I held down the command/option keys, it prompted me to select a Library. This time, I chose the Library resident on the EHD. iPhoto then indicated it needed to run an upgrade in order to render the library (paraphrasing - I should've written down what it said). That took about 20 minutes, and then it proceeded to import. I could see all of my Events, and everything appeared to be good to go. My plan was going to be to then figure out a way to get the photos individually backed up and then monkey with it some more until I could have the Library resident on the Mac HD and backed up on the EHD.
However, before I got that far, I noted that many of my Events were empty. I would see a thumbnail image for it, but clicking in it would indicate that there were zero photos in that Event. I'm flummoxed.
Right now, I am individually exporting the files to newly created sub-folder within Pictures so that I at least have a copy of everything on the new iMac, but that is failing about a third of the way through and yielding an error indicating that the files cannot be copied to users/.... Further, I'm not exactly sure what to make of the empty Events issue. I read another thread on this that says to close and re-launch iPhoto with Command/Option held down and run the repairs, but someone had written that their empty events vanished when they closed the application. Should I proceed?
Thanks again to you both. -
Problem importing Iphoto 7.1.5 library to Iphoto 9.1.1
Hi,
I just bought the new Iphoto 9.1.1 but it can't import my existing library from the current Iphoto 7.1.5!
Does anyone know how to fix the problem? If I can't import this library it makes no sense installing the new Iphoto
Thanks for your helpIn fact I try to upgrade it. When Iphoto 9.1.1 opens for the first time, we are requested to locate the previous library. Doing this Iphoto can't open the library and closes.
I tried to install Iphoto 9.1.1 and after create a new library and then try to open the previous being sure that Iphoto 9.1.1 was correctly installed but it can't open the Iphoto 7.1.5 library. So I had to restore Iphoto 7.1.5 with time machine because I don't want to lose my current library. -
Problem importing photos to iPhoto Library from flash drive
When I try to import photos from flash drive into iPhoto library, they seem to import just fine. BUT if I close iPhoto and then return later, the photos I supposedly imported from the flash drive are not in the Library, and a screen prompt tells me the "source is not available". Photos import into Library from digital camera just fine. Why are the photos from my flash drive not staying in the Library? Kinda defeats the purpose of a Library if images won't stay in it. Please help!
Are you running a Managed or a Referenced Library?
A Managed Library, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing. The files are then stored in the Library package
A Referenced Library is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. (You unchecked the option to copy files into the Library on import) The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management. -
I'm new to iTunes, and I'm usings Windows XP PRO SR3.
I ripped some CDs to FLAC format (one folder per CD).
Then converted FLAC to MP3 in a new folder tree
(F:\Music\MP3\"one folder per CD")
When I imported the sub-folders in the MP3 folder (my iTunes "root" folder), iTunes created a new subfolder F:\Music\MP3\"Copy To " folder for each of my original folders. This is a duplicate of a duplicate.
Can I safely delete these "Copy To" subfolders ??
How do I prevent iTunes from doing this in the future ??
Advanced Setup Notes:
"iTunes Media folder location" is: F:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes Media
"Keep iTunes Media folder organized" is Not Selected
"Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library" is Not selected.
I prefer to manually control my folder/file usage.
Thanks
JohnI made the initial post .....
Tried to reproduce the Importing to Library creating "Copy To ...." folders problem.
But it didn't do it this time ??? I don't know why.
Everything worked the way I thought it should.
Thanks

Systematic import of library when starting itunes 6.0.1.3
well, I am using windows 2000.
I have 7.5GB of music stored in itunes and for some reason itunes imports the library every time I launch the software; Every time I start itunes I get a message saying that "itunes library.itl" does not seem to be a valid file, and itunes then creates a file called "itunes library (damaged).itl"...
I am not using podcasts, and everything was ok until I decided to move from 4.5GB to 7.5GB of music and 2212 songs.
I uninstalled itunes 6.0.1.3 and re-installed it, but the problem is still there, so I assume it has something to do with the size of the 2 files used by itunes.
"itunes music library.xml" is 3,096KB and "itunes library.itl" is 2,272KB.
Has anyone else experienced the same issue?I've determined that iTunes has to be the topmost active window when importing, otherwise it will crash consistantly. And I though Microsoft was bad...
iTunes for the Mac works fine though. -
How can I import my library to a new computer?
Hi:
I just bought a new computer, and I'm trying to import my library from my old computer to the new one. I've transferred my 'My Music' folder (along with the iTunes folder inside it) onto the new computer using an external hard-drive, and I've reinstalled iTunes, but when I import the XML file (which I manually backed up from my old computer), I only get 400 songs of my 6,000 (I think these are the songs from 'My Music / iTunes').
I've tried clearing my library and just adding 'My Music' folder, and although this gets all my songs into the library, it puts the full file name under song name (my files don't have any tags on them), and it leaves the artist field blank. Basically, I'd have to go through all my songs and re-do the sorting fields.
I think the problem is that on my old computer, the pathway to 'My Music' was different from the pathway to 'My Music' on my new computer. Does anyone know how I can get my library to look exactly the same as it did on my old computer? As I've said, I have all the files in place, and I have the XML file ready to go. I think I just need to figure out how to get iTunes to find the songs in 'My Music'.
Thanks!
JIt's a brand new computer, so there wasn't an iTunes folder in the music folder. I just copied it there from my external hard-drive. I think the problem is that on my old computer the pathway to my songs was: C/documents and settings/Ken/my documents/my music, and on my new computer the pathway is C/documents and settings/dell 720/my documents/my music. I have the songs in the right folder, and I have the iTunes folder inside the folder as well, but iTunes is only finding the iTunes folder ... it isn't finding the songs in the 'My Music' folder. I don't know what to do about this. If I clear my library and start from scratch using 'add folder to library', I'll have to re-enter all my info fields, which isn't a pleasant thought.

I am having problems importing to my Ipod nano via windows 8. I usually do this from a windows 7 computer and have had no problems; hoever in windows 8 I can only see items purchased in the Itunes store. I do not have access to my entire library, which includes song uploaded from CDs and some videos. As a result, I'm having problems uploading any new items from CDs or DVDs. The computer with windows 8 is an authorized computer, so I don't understand why I'm having the problem.

Can't import iPhoto Library - Aperture 1.5.2 & iPhoto 6.0.5
I have tried searching the Aperture discussions for a solution, and have only found one useful topic from July 2006:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303438
However, it states this was a partial solution with Aperture 1.0 & iPhoto 6.0.1 or 6.0.2, and would be resolved in Aperture 1.1. We're up to Aperture 1.5.2 now, and I'm unwilling to uninstall iPhoto and revert back to 6.0 to try this solution. I have a SLOOOOW workaround (batch export original file at original size & format from iPhoto to temp hard drive folder, then import from file to Aperture), and have even tried working on an Automator script (not yet successful). Does anyone else have this problem?
FYI, the symptoms are: in Aperture File > Import > iPhoto Library... Selected iPhoto Library folder, Store Files in their current location, and click "Choose". The popup window closes, but nothing happens. No spinning beach ball, no error message, nothing.
Thanks for any help or insights.
MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.4.8) 2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAMHey Suydam.
I am having the EXACT same issues and it is driving me insane.
I have been searching and searching for an answer and nothing.
there is this thread here:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4311146
where the person found a solution but it just seems rather tedious to do.
I am hoping I can find an answer.
I see you posted this back in Feb. Was wondering if you found a solution.
