Hi all,
Sorry for my bad englsih!
I have problem with installing oracle 9i R2
During Linking Oracle 9i Database Error : Error in invoking target install of makefile /u01/app/oracle/product/9.2.0/rdbms/lib/ins_rdms.mk.
Thank you.

i'm using bash shell. If you are using a bash shell then .bash_profile is used by default.
It is located in user's home, if it does not exist then simply create it.
can this file be edited after installation?Yes. And also you can set the enviroment temporary (just for current session)
I just can't find the vi .login file."vi" is command (text editor very common in Unix and Unix like world)
.login does not need to exist (see .bash_profile as above). Note .login is ignored by bash shell.

Problems Installing Oracle 8i on Gateway laptop W/ 1.6 GHz CPU
I'm having problems installing Oracle 8i on a Gateway 600X with a 1.6 GHz CPU and Windows 2000 Professional. The Install/DeInstall screen appears, I click Install/Deinstall, the screen disappears, the hourglass disappears a couple seconds later, and the the install ends without any messages. I tried installing on slower machines and the software seems to install correctly. Is there an issue with Intel's new Mobile Pentium 4 processors or Gateway's laptops?
Thanks,
Mikehave a look in your $ORACLE_HOME/dbs directory. If the init<ORACLE_SID>.ora file has remote_login_password=exclusive then you should also have a file called orapw<ORACLE_SID>. If you haven't, then create one by running "orapwd file=orapw<ORACLE_SID> password=internal entries=5".
This has worked for me in the past, hope it helps.

Problem installing Oracle 9iAS on Win2000
Hi everybody,
I have problem installing Oracle 9iAS 1.0.2.2.2.a on Win2000.
The process instalation stops when the instalation bar shows 100% complete and copying welcome.html . After that, other processes should start, but it does not happen.
I have installed in an other machine an Oracle 8.1.7 release 3 and I set up parameters as described into documentation. I didn4t applied any patch because I was using release 3 already.
I have 1GB RAM , 1.5 Gb of virtual memory , 2 processors 1,3 Ghz,
and 10 Gb on HD target on both servers(Database and Application Server).
Does anybody have a sugestion ?
Thanks.Kevin, I don't which version of 9iAS you are trying to install, but as far as I can tell no 9i versions of the application server are certified against Windows 2003, only 10g is certified against Windows 2003. So what's probably happening is the installer doesn't recognize Windows 2003 and thinks it's a non-patched version of Windows 2000. You should either install Windows 2000 SP1 (minimum) or install Oracle 10gAS.

I have tried to install Oracle 9i (9.2.0.2) in Windows Server 2003 x64 Enterprise Edition with Intel Xeon (EM64T) processors.
When I run setup.exe I get an error: "The image file C:\Documents and settings\administrator.SERVERNAME\my documents\92021 win64_disk1\setup.exe is valid, but is for a machine type other than the current machine".
I have to install Oracle 9i in that server but I can't run the installation. Is there a way to solve this problem, is there a patch that can solve this? Anyone know something about this problem?
Thanks a lot!!!
I'm desperated!!Hi,
reply to my own question:
In the docs provided with the downloads for Oracle Database Server 9i x64, I found that this version requires either
- Windows Server 2003 Datacenter Edition for 64-Bit Itanium 2 Systems
or
- Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition for 64-Bit Itanium 2 Systems
So I guess, the only X64 platform being supported under Windows Server 2003 (both Datacenter / Enterprise Editions) is Itanium CPUs ...
... though this is not (!!!) clearly stated in the download link (other/newer versions are listed more precisely - I guess it's a matter of an old link: no Intel Xeon / AMD Opterons were available (???) when Oracle 9i database server was published).
So I'll give it a try with 10g database server ;-)))

Installing Oracle Apps 11i (11.5.7) on W2K Server, Bootstrap Failed
Installing Oracle Apps 11i (11.5.7) on W2K Server:
System Configuration:
Oracle 11i E-Business Suite 11.5.7
Windows 2000 Server with Service Pack 2
Microsoft VC++ Installed from Microsoft Visual Studio 6.0
MKS tool kit for Developers 8.1
Gnu -> make-3.79.1
Java -> 1.4 SDK
1 GB RAM, 120GB HDD, P3 733 MHz
I am trying to install Oracle Apps 11i (11.5.7) on my development server (W2K). After the system post check is done (no errors), and when i try to install the E-business suite by using rapid install wizard, i am getting the message 'Bootstrap Failed'. Even i tried to 'Retry', but nothing is moving up. I am not able to install anything...
Do you guys have any idea?
Thanks for your suggestions.
KrishnaKrishna,
I am getting the exact same problem. Do you remember how it got fixed. Can you please advice me on this 'bootstrap error'.
Thanks,
Vasu
Thanks for your advice. I checked up on the server.
Everyone has the write permission to the installation
drive.
What i noticed that, after i started the rapid
install wizard, and i gave all the necessary info...
than the system post check starts... after the system
post check is done (no errors), when i tried to
install the oracle apps by using rapid install,
bootstrapping of oracle 11i rapid install wizard
starts... at that time i am getting the 'Bootstrap
Failed'.
Thanks for your suggestions.

How to install Oracle 10g on to Red Hat Linux 5 Server
I'm new to both Linux and Oracle. I've been working on an installion of Oracle 10g on a Red Hat Linux 5 Server for about 2 weeks. I've been doing a lot of reading about installing Oracle on a Linux environment. I finally got to the installation portion and the Oracle Installer displayed a message that I had to have Red Hat 4 or 4 Enterprise to continue.
How can Install Oracle 10g onto a Red Hat 5 Linux Server"? Is there an option that I can use to bypass the OS checking?
ThanksUnfortunately there is no way to access metalink without a valid account. You could then just try to skip preinstall requisites with this clause:
./runInstaller -ignoreSysPrereqs
or this method:
Copy the oraparam.ini from the installation source install/oraparam.ini to /tmp directory.
Edit the file /tmp/oraparam.ini so this file reads:
After
[Certified Versions]
Linux=redhat-3,SuSE-9,redhat-4,UnitedLinux-1.0,asianux-1,asianux-2,redhat-5
also, make sure you have these packages installed:

Cant install oracle 8.1.7 on aix 4.3.3
because of internal issues, i have used my pc to copy the 2 install
cd's onto a unix box to try and install from there.
the 2 disks are on the unix box and i can read all the files.
i run runinstaller from the disk1 directory and it asks if i have run 'rootpre.sh' which i answer yes.
it changes directory to install/aix and then
it runs ./runInstaller $* &
then it says the following
$ The Java RunTime Environment was not found at bin/jre. Hence, the Oracle Universal Installer cannot be run.
Please visit http://www.javasoft.com and install JRE version 1.1.8 or higher and try again.
now i am not sure of the context. there is no relative directory bin with jre there. i do a which and i can see the jre /usr/bin/jre ( which is 1.1.8 ).
what am i missing here?
i assume i am missing a variable or something..
the docs seem to say the only required setting is DISPLAY and PATH
my PATH is /usr/bin:/etc:/usr/sbin:/usr/ccs/bin:/usr/ucb:/usr/bin/X11:/sbin
any ideas?

thanksHi, Guys:
I got the same problem. I couldn't install Oracle 8.1.7 on my
new system with P4 1.5G and Windows 2000. I downloaded Windows
service pack 2 and updated my OS. It still didn't work. It is
obvious that the problem is in Oracle 8.1.7. It can not work
with P4. The Universal Installer of Oracle couldn't run under
the P4 envirnment. Some expert introduced workaround. It was not
working for everyone. So who can solve this problem or who can
tell me whether Oracle has created patch to fix this up? By the
way, can Oracle 9i work with P4 and windows 2000? Thanks. -

Can anybody tell me what is wrong with it?This is the same problem that we have encountered installing 8.1.7 clients on AIX 4.3.3 and 5.2. However I did successfully install it on one AIX 4.3.3 machine. Comparing the oracle logs there are no differences in the successful and unsuccessful installs until the point netasst hangs. All the machines are definitely set to run the 32 bit kernel.

Problem installing Oracle 9i on a Debian 64bits (LD_ASSUME_KERNEL)
Hi,
I'm trying to install Oracle 9i on a Debian 64 bits server.
When I launch runInstaller, the installation process stops at 18% "copying naeet.o".
I had the same problem when I installed Oracle 9i on a RedHat 4, but I solved it by setting this env variable :
export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.1
But when I do this on Debian, I can't run any command anymore, I get this error :
ls: error while loading shared libraries: librt.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I've been searching, but I can't find how to set LD_ASSUME_KERNEL without these side effects !
Can anyone please help ?
Thanks !it seems to be very very hard to install Oracle 9i on Debian Etch, I found this on the net :
> Is it possible to install Oracle 9i on Debian etch?
So far I have had no luck due libraries requirement.
I appreciate any suggestions.Officially no.
Unofficially, you should be able to with a loooot of tweaking. The
secret is in the "compat" libraries. Basically Oracle is a binary
distribution and relies on gcc296 - not gcc3. You should also get your
own jdk install. Get 1.1.8 (yep - good old one) and use it to run the
installer. With Oracle9i there's no gurantee that the jdk in the
installer will run on your distro. Luckily you can override the jdk with
your own.
If anyone knows a simple way to do it, I'd like to know, but I'd rather give up about this idea
It seems to be to tricky for my poor Linux knowledge
