Problems installing XCode on Lion

Hello,
I am trying to install XCode on my computer. I downloaded it off the App Store and just ran the application straight from Applications. When I double click on the application it says I must install the Mobile Device Framework through the downloader before I can proceed. When I try this, the program says installation failed and this is in my installation log:
Before this I have been entering some commands in the terminal and installed some stuff following this tutorial, don't know if that is what is interfering with the installation.

@khiros
In case you're still having this issue, I had the same problem this morning and here's how I resolved it:
Go to /Applications/ and right click on 'Xcode' and then select 'Show Package Contents' from the popup menu - this will show you the contents of the Xcode.app bundle.
Then go inside Contents and Resources and then Packages (so, your file path should now be /Applications/XCode.app/Contents/Resources/Packages/) and then double click on the 'MobileDevice.pkg' installer file.
If you're having the same problem that I've had you should get a message warning you that the installer's certificate has expired. You should be able to give permission to run it anyway and have the installer proceed. Once the installation of that package is complete you should be able to run Xcode again and see it all working.
Alternatively, try to advice above to update Xcode in the Mac App Store - I didn't see that advice until I'd figured out how to do it my way so I don't know if that will work in this particular case or not.
All the best and good luck!
Adam

  • Internal Error: How To re-install XCode on Lion

    Hi,
After having upgraded from Mac OS X Snow Leopard to Lion I downloaded XCode 4.0 (it took a while..) and run the installer.
Unfortunately XCode crashes right after the startup without showing any XCode typical splash screen or so, just the error message window
saying "Internal Error: Xcode encountered an internal error ..."
I found some hint on the net saying that I should remove the installation using the command "sudo /Developer/Library/uninstall-devtools --mode=all"
After having ran this I tried to download XCode again from the MacAppStore, but the button still sayed "Installed" and did not let me download Xcode
again. I used Spotlight to search for Xcode and found the "Install Xcode" application in the application folder. I moved it to the desktop. Did not work.
I moved it to some other hard disk. Did not work. Only when I unmounted the extra hard disk, the MacAppStore let me "install" the application.
I entered my name and password and pressed the "Install" button. But nothing happened (the first time the XCode icon jumped into my dock and I could see some progress in the download (after a while..))
So what is the problem now again? The MacAppStore also suggests me (still) an XCode upgrade, although I have run the above command. So I guess there is still some reference to XCode around... Who can help?
    Thanks for any advice!
    Christoph

    • Check /Library/Receipts/ to see if there is an Xcode Receipt - if so, move it to the desktop and then hit the store again.
    • In the Applications directory (or LaunchPad?) is there an icon named 'Install Xcode' ?
    Good luck in any case.

  • How do I install XCode on Lion with Command Line and UNIX development support?

I installed Xcode via the App Store in Lion.  I try to install Macports, latest relase but get this error messagE:
"Xcode is not installed, or was installed with UNIX Development (10.5+) or Command Line Support (10.4) deselected."
I am not presented with an option for selecting or deselecting different parts of Xcode, does anyone know how I can make sure I have these above
    parts installed on Lion?

where would it have put the installer?  I goto /Developer/Applications and run Xcode and it says I have version 3.2.5(1760).  I looked in Downloads and didn't see an installer.

  • Problems installing Xcode for building iPhone applications

Just got a mac mini today for building iphone applications. I'm new to macs.
Downloaded the iPhone SDK. Installed it. But I saw there are a lot of
packages. Do I need to install them all? I've installed the iPhone ones.
When I launch Xcode I get the 'Welcome to Xcode 3.1', which just looks like
a lot of tutorials. How do I run the Xcode application to build iPhone apps?
    Cheers,
    John.

you just install XCode and it will install ALL packages, the packages that you see are to be installed one by one for expert users or users that want to have a the newest packages.
Remember: Install the iPhone SDK 2.2
you just go to menu and click File > New Project > iPhone and choose the type of project for the iPhone that you want to use, WebApp, UIApp, etc ...
because you are new to the MAC world and probably never used Objective-C in your live, it is good to start somewhere first, buy a good book of the subject, start with the language (Objective-C) them learn about the framework (Cocoa Touch) and then read all about XCode.
In the meanwhile you can check several websites to start knowing what you going to be able to do one day, here are some examples:
    - Writing your first iPhone application (payed movies, first for free)
    - iPhone Developer Central
    - Apps Amuck
    - iPhone SDK Articles
remember that you will need to apply to the iPhone Developer Program in order to submit your SDK Apps to the Apple AppStore.
Updated: You can find several movies on YouTube on how to start building apps to the iPhone, but the most seams to do a bad job cause they are screen casting the entire desktop rather the area that we need, so text will be unreadable on such dimensions.

    Hi All
Really stumped here, I'm trying to get mac os lion from the app store on to my macbook core 2 duo. As soon as i select to download, the spinning disk satrts then says I need at least 2Gb hard drive space.....I have 56Gb. How can i get round this? Take a look at this doc, http://support.apple.com/kb/SP629  If your MacBook meets the requirements try using disk utility on you hard drive to verify/repair it,  then try to install Lion.

I just bought my iMac which came with Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3. There is however a software update available (which is required to run applications such as Aperture) to 10.7.4. However, after downloading the update, it wont install. Any ideas?

  • I've paid $ 3,99 for Xcode for Snow Leopard. Now there is a new Xcode for Lion, so I downloaded the new one but the installed continued to be the old one. Now App Store says "Installed" and don't allow me to re-download Xcode. How can I proceed?

I've paid $ 3,99 for Xcode for Snow Leopard 12 days ago. After installing Lion I saw there is a new FREE Xcode for it, so I downloaded the new one but after installing automatically Xcode for Lion the Developer folder contained the old one. I deleted the old Xcode but the App Store says "Installed" and don't allow me re-download Xcode.
How can I proceed? I'm guessing whether this problem will occur each time I buy an application from App Store.

Yes, that's righ, Xcode installer was in the Apps folder. I assumed it had been automatically installed and the installer deleted after installation (the same way as Lion is installed).
I tried also the procedure for redownloding applications, and MAS showed both Xcodes (Lion and Snow Leopard) and OS X Lion. We see that buttons for Lion and Xcode for Snow Leopard say 'Install' but Xcode for Lion says 'installed' because there is an Install Scode in the Apps folder.
    Thank you.

  • Problem installing Lion on my Macbook Pro.

Hello all. I bought the virtual lion upgrade from the Apple store a year and half ago, after installing it I noticed I coudn't use many applications I used daily. That lead me to reinstall Snow Leopard on my computer using my time machine backup.
After purchasing an external HD big enough to contain my Snow Leopard I decided to reinstall Lion and keep all the old applications on the Snow Leopard Partition on my external HD. Here is where all the problems began. After installing Lion again the computer coudn't get past the gray screen with spinning wheel. I remamber once during one of the many attempts it actually did get past the gray screen right after installing it but didn't last long since at night i turned off the macbook pro and by the morning the same problem happened.
Now after a long period of time I am willing to install that OS Lion on my mac even because I need it in order to install some applications that are not supported on Snow Leopard but the same problem happends...I have now used time machine to be able to get into my computer again and type this down.
Here is the current steps I already took:
    - Backed up with time machine.
    - Verified Disk
    - Repaired Permissions ( right after the repair completes, if I click repair permissions again it starts reparing a whole load of new permissions and as far as I know could go infinitely...is this normal?!)
    Additional information:
    MacBook Pro 5,1
    Snow leopard 10.6.8
Processor 2.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Now I read that restarting the NVRAM and SMC might help and I was thinking about doing that, just not sure in what order and any help would be much appretiated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Gabriel

    Little update.
I reset the SMC and NVRAM but it still not works. I also tried to Repair the Permissions under the Lion download using the "alt" key to access the Recovery HD and than I reinstalled lion under Recovery HD but still won't boot.

Ever since installing iCloud and Lion my computer is slow or freezes.  The color wheel comes on and My work stops.  I have only a small window of time where my computers will function normally during the day. I know many others that have the same problem. I'll get 20-30 minutes of work done and then a sync or something comes on, the color wheel of death shows up, and my productivity is shot.  I have to shut the computer down the hard way!  when it comes back up, it is still either frozen or slow.  I've checked in at the genius bar and all they say is that there have been some problems that Apple is trying to fix.  It effects Mail, Contacts, Safari, Calendar....yeah, pretty much everything.  My iPhone and iPad are not effected as much so I end up doing what I can with them.  I've seen the blogs out there and understand that many have the same problem.  I have been waiting to read about a fix but I have found nothing!  Any ideas?

Not enough free space on the startup disk can slow the system down.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure there's a minimum of 15% free disk space.
For startup issues...  open System Preferences > Users & Groups - Login Items. Delete any apps listed there then restart your mac.
And disable the Lion "resume" feature.
    Open System Preferences > General
Deselect:   Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps
And Spotlight may be indexing... you can turn that off > Turning Off Spotlight | Mac Tricks And Tips

Xcode 4.x cannot be installed on Snow Leopard.  You need a 3.x.  So if that is what you used then yes, you need to install lion.   If connect.apple.com still alows registration or logins using an existing appleid then you could download the last xcode 3.2.6 for free.

  • Unable to install Xcode 4.3.2 with Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 (on my Mac mini)

I tried to install Xcode 4.3.2 from application store, after clicking the Install button, a message displayed as "Installing". (but no progress bar appeared)
After about 30 minutes, (while installation was on progress), my Mac mini crashed and I had to turn off the power and restart it again.
Now, if I try to install the Xcode again, nothing happens after I click the install button except the Apple store login dialog pops in and ask to login.
(No folder named "Developer" has been created in my Application folder yet)

Developer folder was not created anywhere, I had checked.
But, latter I found an icon named "paused" in the 2nd page of my Launchpad. When clicking installating simply started and completed without any problems.

There was an error when I tried to install OS X Lion after I purchased the os online. How do I fixed it?

Had the same problem.  All I did was click retry, (nothing happened at first so had a panic attack) so I checked my email and found I'd payed for Lion, also the Lion App in the app Store had gone back to the purchace price.  However after reaching for a brown paper bag to try and stop myself hyperventilating, Lion suddenly appeared and said it was installing.  33 minutes later it was up and running 'Job done'

Same problem for me.  After installing latest XCode, I would get an error from iTunes whenever I attached my iPhone:
"iTunes was unable to load dataclass information from Sync Services. Reconnect or try again later"

Backup of the device would subsequently fail.
I dragged the itunes app to the trash, downloaded the latest version, and installed it.  iTunes works correctly now.
