Production Campaign in Discrete MFG

Folks,
I know it is possible to use/run Production Campaign Planning in PP-PI. However, I had a similar requirement to run production at certain work centers on a campaign basis. However, I'm running discrete production & not Process.
Because of the large set-up time involved we need to run set of certain finished products in an ascending sequence & then bring the line down in the exact opposite descending sequence (1ton, 3 ton, 5 ton while bringing it up & 5 ton, 3ton, 1 ton when taking it down). Can this be mapped without a Campaign?
Cheers

Hi Andy,
You can read more about this strategy in SAP help ....(Planning w/ a Planning Material and w/o MTO (63))
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_di46c2/helpdata/EN/a2/4e799a927d11d1800f00c04fadcb73/content.htm.
Apart from this, you will have do developments which will capture the campaign number (not available in standard SAP) against a group of planned orders which you have to choose manually and change dates manually and put in the campaign plan development screen. These planned orders will be the one which are generated for specific sales orders (if MTO) or collective planned order (if MTS).
So you need to generate a campaign number for this group of planned orders and execute and monitor your production against this number.
I hope this will give you thought direction .....you need to think in detail as to how you are going to map the development as you are better aware of your business scenario ..:)

  • Process loss in Discrete mfg.

    Hi experts,
My Input material (raw material) for a product is 40g and the out put (Finished product) weight is 20g. where we will show the material loss in discrete mfg. MTO Or MTS manufacturing scenario.

    Hi,
There are two parts in scrap posting:
    1) Inventory
    2) Costing
If there is no physical scrap generation or no inventory recording of scrap is required as well as there is no cost credit of scrap material is involved then you can simply maintain BOM data as 4 kg of SFG for 2 kg of FG. So, if backflush is activated then during confirmation of 2 kg FG as yield system will issue 4 kg of SFG.
If inventory of scrap material needs to be recorded or cost credit of scrap material to FG production is required then you need to:
Step 1) Apart from SFG maintain material master data for scrap material (not sure backflush require or not)
Step 2) Along with SFG component maintain scrap material as component for FG BOM  but with -ve quantity (i.e. - 2 kg of scrap material for 2 kg of FG)
As scrap material is maintained as component in FG BOM, system will add one row for scrap material receipt in Goods Movement list during confirmation. And system will also credit cost of scrap material to production/process order (debit SFG component cost).
Try this and if require get back with your query.
    Bye for now,

  • What is Discrete Mfg and MTO,MTS

    Hi Gurus,
Can any one tell What is discrete mfg. And what is MTO and MTS in Discrete Mfg.
    Thanks
    Kevin

Discrete Manufacturing pertains to industry which frequently switches the manufactured products for eg: Speciality Electrical products, Heavy engineering products(Pressure vessels, Fermentors etc), Computer assembly etc. So every product you make in discrete manufacturing industry will have different components, work centers, routings etc. This is in contrast to repetitive / process industry where the product configuration and process remain fairly constant over a period of time.
    MTO (Make to Order):
In make-to-order production (strategy 20), every sales order is planned individually and managed in its own segment in the MRP list or the current stock/requirements list.
The system does not perform a net requirements calculation between individual sales orders or with the anonymous  warehouse stock.
The lot-for-lot order quantity is used as the default setting for the lot-sizing procedure, regardless of the entry you have made in the material master record. You define the lot-sizing procedure for make-to-order production in Customizing for MRP in the workstep "Checking the lot-sizing procedure" in the field "Lot-size calculation for MTO production".   Depending on the setting of the lot-size indicator in the material master record, you can define a different lot size for make-to-order production from the one used in make-to-stock production.
    MTO (Make to Stock):
The demand program is defined without reference to sales orders.
Sales orders are not relevant to MRP, but can be displayed for information purposes. You make this setting in the "No MRP" field in Customizing for the appropriate requirements class (workstep, "Defining Requirements Classes" in Customizing for SD).
Sales orders are covered by warehouse stock. In Sales and Distribution, you can carry out the availability check according to ATP logic. Material withdrawals for a sales order reduce this sales order's quantity.
The consumption of the demand program (that is of the planned independent requirements) is carried out at goods issue (the indicator "PIR reduction" in Customizing of the requirements class 30 must be set if you want to reduce the demand program when delivering to a sales order). The oldest planned independent requirement is reduced first according to the FIFO (first-in-first-out) principle using the requirement date. Future planned independent requirements are also reduced by goods issues, if allowed by the consumption mode and the forward consumption period.

    Hi,
I want to know Wat is the basic difference between Process mfg and Discrete Mfg. ?
    thanks in advance

    hi namitha,
in both case prodcution is carried out as per production quantity
process industry has master data as follows
    1. material master
    2. bill of material
    3. resource
    4. master recipe
there is one more functionality in SAP PP PI is Process instruction sheet,
    transaction data
    1process order
    and for descrite manufacturing
    master data is as follows
    1. material master
    2. bill of material
    3. work center
    4. routing
    transaction data

    please help
    Thanks

Process and Discrete industries have some fundamental differences in their product development, materials, production procesess and planning procedures. Process industries need to deal with Variable Ingredients, By & Co-products, UOM are that are Material Specific. Multiple Recipes and Formulas are used to make a single product due to seasonality or plant equipment variations. Process industries need Lot, Grades, Potency, Shelf-life.
Manufacturing is different too...think of industries where materials are blended together like paints, or food products, beverages. Also unique is decomposition...breaking something apart, like a chicken into its components: legs, thighs, breasts etc and be able to track the costs.
The Oracle Process Manufacturing suite is capable of supporting all of these industry requirements.

    HI Victor,
In the setup matrix you are suppose to maintain the dummy PPM detains aganist the setup groups.
means: maintain the following information in setup matrix and try
    Setup transactiopn type: I
    Predecssr: Setup group 1
    Sucessor: Setup group 2

  • Process Order vs Production Campaign

    Hi,
I am pretty confused between these two terms Process Order and Production Campaign. When do I use Process Order and when do I use Production Campaign instead? I know both is for process industry but i am confused over the differences. When do I use one over the other?
    Thanks so much.
    Cheers,
    Sue

    Hi Sue,
Process Orders can be assigned to a Production Campaign. You use Process Order when using PP-PI. You may or may not use Production Campaign. It depends on the type of resource you are planning and executing. Production Campaign is primarily used to define time periods on the capacity when you produce certain type of products considering sequence dependent capacity planning.
For exmaple you have a resource - vessel or tank which can be used for producing multiple products but you need to do setup and cleanout activities after each type of product. So if you have process orders for Product A followed by Product B and then Product C and back to Product A - you end up having non-productive time (when setup and cleanup activities happen).
Instead you create Production Campaigns on the resource whereby you define for certain time in future you are only going to produce Product A followed by Product B and then C. In such a case all the Production Orders in future for Product A are assigned to Production Campaign for Product A and likewise. This reduces the non-productive time and also optimises the sequence dependent production plan.
This is only possible when the rate of production is quite higher than the rate of consumption (demand) else you cannot produce sufficient quantity in stock to meet the demand till the next production campaign is scheduled.
    Hope this helps.

  • Error  while giving the production line in repetitive mfg

    Hello friends,
When i am maintaining the production version in material master for repetitive mfg, and in production line when i am giving the workcenter which is in operation of rate routing, system giving me the error message that "REP01(which is my workcenter) is not maintained in plan (planning type = plant = smp1)".Message no. is CFVO90.
Though i have got the solution of this message, but i am not able to understand the solution.
Actually while creating the production version in material master, for task list data i was only maintaining the task list type, Group Number and Group counter for  Rate Based only as Rate Routing. And when i would give the workcenter which is in operation of rate routing then  system would give me the error.
Later on when i maintained the Task list type, Group Number and Group counter for Detailed scheduling, Rate Routing, and Rough cut scheduling and than maintained the workcenter in production line, system didn't give the error.
My question is as we are doing the repetitive mfg, and as we have maintained the rate routing, so why it so that in Detailed scheduling and rough cut scheduling also we have to maintain the Task list type, Group Number and Group counter.
         Plz guide.

    Hello pravin,
    Thanks for the reply.
Actually if i give the details of Task list type, Group, Group counter for Rate based scheduling only in production version and if i maintain the workcenter which i have given in the operation of Rate Rounting in production line then system is throwing the error mentioned above.
Unless and until i mention the details of Rate Routing for all i.e. Detailed scheduling, Rough cut scheduling and Rate based scheduling, system is not allowing me to save the production version.
As per your answer, even i am confused that as i have ticked the repetitive mfg in mrp 4 view and as i have given REM profile, so system should not give me the error when i only maintain the rate routing data in Rate based scheduling in production version.
Is there any other way to solve this error. If not than whats the logic behind it.
I hope u have understood my query.

    Hi Gurus
I m very much new in the world of Oracle Apps implementation. I got a responsibility of implementing discrete Manufacturing module for one of our client.
I m looking for a basic setup plus transactional level guidlines that can help me in implementing the same. i request to all of u to please help me on this. If u guys r having any kind of docs (Specially Planning part) thn please forward it on my mail. its [email protected] .
    Looking for a positive response.
    Regards ,
    Saurabh

Soma, it is not clear if your 5 mt. Shell is another product, different from 2 mt. Shell. I hope it is a different product code.
    a) work center: is the same work center (machines, people) used for producing the new material ? If so, no need to add a work center (unless some new service or activity is required when you produce 5 mt shell)
    b) Routing: if standard values and operations are the same that inthe 2 mt product, so no need to change. Just add the new product in teh material assignment of the routing. If there are structural changes, so you will need to create a new routing, eventually using the new created work center (if necessary) .
LEt me know if I understood your issue.

  • KANBAN In Production still Generate Discrete Orders

    Hello...
We are using KANBAN for In house Production, we define a new type of Order for this process.
We have the problem that the MRP is generating automatically the discrete production orders, and the KANBAN order do the technicall complete, so we have to reopen our KANBAN order and do technicall complete the production orders that MRP generate.
What we miss in configuration? how I can solve this issue?

    Hi,
Will you explain the problem detail?
In the control cycle select the strategy as production order with MRP.
So when you create kanban production order system will consume the MRP generated production order.

  • Creation of  production campaign and deletion of orders from campaign

    Hi APO Gurus,
This is regarding campaign creation for a set or group of orders.
I have a group of orders in a z table, I want to create a campaign in PP/DS by using Heuristic : /sapapo/heur_pcm_create.
Can I do this without going to DS board, Simply by calling the above given function module in a z program?
Similarly , in another table if I have a set of orders , which are already part of a campaign.
Can I remove those orders from the Campaign by using heuristic : /SAPAPO/HEUR-PCM_Dissolve , without going to DS Board.
    Waiting for your valuable suggestions.

  • APO 7.03. Production Campaign - Integration with ERP

    Hi,
I am using SAP ERP 6.0 and APO 7.03.
I created campaign in APO and try to find out if I can see in SAP ERP that some planned orders belong to a campaign.
Meaning: Can I see in SAP ERP that a planned order belongs to APO campaign? I do not see any campaign nr in the planned order itself nor in coois for planned orders.
    Any hint?
Integration model for campaigns is active.
    thanks for any useful hints!
    br,
    Wojtek

    Hi Wojtek,
    1. Is is ok to assign the class types 023 and 300 in ECC to the same org area?
MK> Yes. The organizational area is the filter to transfer classes and characteristics. It should be applied to both classes and characteristics and should be unique for APO transfer.
    2. Do I really need to assign class type 300 to the same organizational area P which has the calss type 400? or is just 400 enough?
MK> I don't think class 300 has any meaning in APO. I could be wrong. In APO you should have classes 230, 400 and sometimes 001 with the same organizational area used in ECC. The organizational area is not mandatory in APO for master data transfer but is used in integrated scenarios such as variant configuration or batch processing.
    3. Do I need to consider something else?
MK> Create the organizational area and make the assignments to classes in both ECC and APO before you create integration models.

  • CREATING SERIAL TRACEABILITY DURING PRODUCTION PROCESS IN DISCRETE MANUFAC

We are manufacturing part with serial number identification.
We can identify the history fo material + serial combination only after completing our production and transfer completed part to storage.
We are interesting in creation serial history / traceability during our production process.
WE could not found any solution via Phase confirmation or via Equipment management or even Material movements
We must to know in what operation sereal number exist in real time traceability.
    With regards.
    B. Betzer

Basically the Serial Number is Unique irrespective of the operation.
That will be carried out through outthe life cycle in the way of particular Material+Serial Number combination
So you can give the Serial Number in the Particular Work Order and Operation
I assume there will be a Marking Machine that needs to Punch/engrave/print the Serial Number and you are interested to give work order to that machine

  • Error as Production Version = or repetitive mfg indicator cannot be deleted

    Hi Guys,
Please let me know before I delete the Production version for a material what are all the steps I need to carryout.
Requesting to explain with detailed steps/Points.
    Cheers,
    Kumar.S

    Dear Kumar,
1.First check whether is there any planned order assigned with this production version in MD04 or else in MD16.
2.Either confirm these planned orders using T COde MFBF or else delete these orders in MD16 or else in MD12.
3.Also clear the reprocessing list present in MF47.
4.Do the variance calculation and settlement (KO88)
4.Now here this issue can handled in 2 ways, one is set the valid to date as the system's date to the production version.
5.If you want to delete the production version, then the cut off period has to be set by the CO part and proceed.
    Check these links,.
