Project Management Asset Library

For years - as a small graphics department within a bigger corporation, I been looking for some kind of job tracking and digital asset management system that is not to expensive.
If there is anyone who has Advertizing Agency experience or currently working for Ad Agency, can you share how you track project - job requests - updates - track changes - and archive finished project.
Thanks all..

I should look into that.... my personal experience with Bridge was that it was slow... we have a server based environment it take long time to access.
Here are some things That we look into.
1) Project tracking
2) Changes and approval
3) a thumbnail or PDF access by non-graphics staff to view artwork..
etc. etc..
Is there anyone who is in Ad Agency environment who can share their everyday work flow...
Job Request - QouteProject assesment - Drafts- keep comments and update request - so that accountability of proposed change are logged.. and final production - log which vendor (print, publication, client) it was sent and when...

I am looking for ways to manage projects that will help in the whole production process from managing school work size project to a feature film production.

Drop into any library and start looking at the documentary and independent filmmakers books.
Organizing a production is a big job, keeping the media organized is just one little part of a project. But I gotta tell you that organizing a video production can't be done out of a book or with software. It takes practice, a mind for the process details and more flexibility than you imagine.

  • Select a Project in the Library Inspector from Projects View -- now broken?

The new interface is missing something I used to use all the time.  In Olde Aperture (3.3.1), double-clicking any selected Project(s) in Projects View showed the contents of that (those) Project(s) in the Browser and selected them in the Library tab of the Inspector.  This behavior has been changed (3.3.2): now the contents are shown in the Browser, but as a subset of the superset of Projects, which remains selected in the Library tab of the Inspector.
This represents a bit of a dam in my workflow.  I manage a few Libraries with thousands of nested Projects.  I often need to select the Project in the Library tab of the Inspector.  Double-clicking a Project (or Projects) was a great way to select those Projects in the Library tab of the Inspector.  Is there a quick way to do this in 3.3.2?  The old way kept with Aperture's visual orientation.  Currently, I am having to memorize the names of Projects in order to find them.  This is, afaict, a step backwards.
Is there any justification/benefit to having "Projects" remain selected after one double-clicks a Project or Projects in Projects View?
    Notes:
    - when two or more Projects are selected in Projects View and then double-clicked, one can right-click an Image and select "Show in Project" from the pop-up context menu.  When only one Project is selected originally, that menu choice is not shown.
    - you cannot open the Project Info pane after double-clicking a Project in Projects View.  You must either return to Projects View and click the "i" icon on the Project tile, or otherwise right-click the Project name in the Library tab of the Inspector and select "Show Project info" from the context menu pop-up.
    Thanks  .

Kirby, I see you have explored this annoying change more since your post last month, when AP 3.3 came out.
Is there any justification/benefit to having "Projects" remain selected after one double-clicks a Project or Projects in Projects View?
None that I can think of.
Is there a quick way to do this in 3.3.2?  The old way kept with Aperture's visual orientation.
Only the "Goto Project" button in the "Project Info" panel, but I would not call that quick.
    Notes:
    - when two or more Projects are selected in Projects View and then double-clicked, one can right-click an Image and select "Show in Project" from the pop-up context menu.  When only one Project is selected originally, that menu choice is not shown.
But that is really a nice work-around - just take care to at least select two projects at the same time.
I missed that feature, because I was annoyed that it does not work when selecting one project.
    - you cannot open the Project Info pane after double-clicking a Project in Projects View.  You must either return to Projects View and click the "i" icon on the Project tile, or otherwise right-click the Project name in the Library tab of the Inspector and select "Show Project info" from the context menu pop-up.
But at least you can still double click the project and go to the project with the "Project Info" HUD open, and it will stay open. But it is cumbersome to have to remember to open the HUD before going to the project. Otherwise not even the name of the project will be displayed. I have added the name of the project to each metadata view, so I can see it in the Inspector HUD as well.
I rarely use the projects view and rely heavily on the folder structure and the search field to quickly find my projects.
    Cheers

  • Project Manager can´t see my .lso files

Hello logicusers, I am new at the forum and this is my first trouble: Project Manager can´t see my .lso files. I would like to start using PM but it seems to be difficult without seeing .lso files in the navigator window.
I´ve read the books, I´ve checked here for this tip and got a lot of useful information, but no solution found. I hope somebody could help me please:
    - Macbook white with LP 7.2.3
    - Reinstalled and cleaned all
    - Installed OSX upgrade 0.4.9 manually
    - Installed pro application support 3.1
    - PM Data and logic preferences deleted
    - permissions applied to "all enclosed folders"
    - Performed a complete scan in PM
If I create a new song from logic, PM can´t see this .lso file.
If I scan a external hard drive (lacie f.a.porsche) through PM, it only recognizes one .lso file from a lot of old songs, and I don´t imagine why.
Yesterday I tried this: opened PM, copied a Template song from the Templates folder to the Desktop; renamed it as "Sidload" (my particular "Autoload" term); until here, everything correct, PM seems to be able to manage "Sidload". But when I open Sidload and save the first change, and .bak folder comes, I can´t make more "visible copies for PM" of this file. Finder can see the new copies, but PM not (files that has created "itself"); so I can´t manage a song that has been copied, renamed and saved for first time -through PM, from a Template; invisible, dissapears. No saving PM data, no checking folder, no advanced search helps.
I wish to have a way to talk to logic support via mail, but I don´t know how. So I came here to beg you friends for your help. Thank you very much for being here.

yep, I have scanned at every level, from everything to just a single folder that contains song files. After scanning a folder that conatins songs on my SATA B drive (the one that PM can't find songs), still the songs will not appear.
I have copied over my songs to the drive that PM seems to see songs on and guess what? It doesn't see those songs copied over.
This is driving me so nuts I have forgotten that I engaged in this thread...
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1046126&tstart=0
Does anyone know what the option in the PM's file menu "import file maps" and delete all exported file maps" does? Or what its for?
It feels to me that some sort of database or referrence list etc etc has gone very wrong, but I have already tried deleting (manually) the PM data file in somewhere in the library folder etc etc.
Using file buddy I see that PM stores the a PM database as an invisable file on each drive you have connected. Presumably info for what is on that drive. Perhaps these invisable files need to be manually deleted???

  • Project manager can't find my songs

I have well over 100 song files on one of two internal sata drives in my mac pro. "SATA A" has my sample libraries. "SATA B" contains all my song files and audio recordings.
I want to use project manager to help identify what samples I have used with these songs. the samples are stored on "SATA A" within a huge library. The problem is that project manager doesn't seem to find any of my songs (stored on "SATA B").
I have done expanded sacans, localised/"specified where" scans. I've excluded locations and included locations but PM will not find any of my songs on my "SATA B" drive. It does however find sample data, audio, movies and everything else.
PM ~does~ find songs on my "SATA A" drive. These are songs included in my Kirk Hunter Emerald library - which I didn't even know existed! When I saw PM picked up the songs on SATA A drive I tried copying my songs to it from "SATA B". I did a full, extended scan from scratch and still my songs are not found.
I have checked their permissions. They all have .iso on the end and the finder sees them as "logic songs" via "get info". In fact they look identicle to the Kirk hunter songs that the PM sees. I have also checked sata b drive and compared to it sata a and they seem to be configured identically (bought/set-up at the same time etc).
I have tried deleting logic's pref files and PM data etc etc manually. still no joy.
Any ideas what I am doing wrong or what I can do to fix it?
About 10% of my songs (out of 100 to 150 songs) will be using exs24 samples from my sample library (KH Emerald is just one eg). I just want to save the associated samples with the songs for archiving. I do not want to have to save all my sample library with the songs if at all possible. Going through each song manually would take too long. I feel my only option right now is to save all songs and all sample library on specially purchased hard drive but I'd prefer to avoid this route. Any suggestions?
Sorry if I've asked this before but its driving me nuts.

  • Project Manager: How to include the Trash as an Exclude Path

I'm delving deep into the wonders of the Project Manager. Wondering if there's any way to add the Trash (on any drive) as an "exclude path" so that I can prevent the PM from going 'dumpster diving' for files in there.
While on the subject of trash (OT) I really miss the OS9 trash scheme where you had an actual desktop icon for the trash. Also, when you'd open the trash in OS9 to see what was in there, a tally of the total MB/GB of trashed files would be displayed in the finder window. But not in OSX (why?!?!). Anyway, does anyone know how to achieve either a desktop icon and/or a file-size count of trashed items in OSX?
    Thanks, and Happy New Year!

    Surrrrrrre Dahlin'.
Somebody in this forum said, it's the time of Red Red Wine.
I am following this advice. Wait, is that party over already?
Truly, the PM being as powerful of a tool it is, sometimes needs our (human) input to get it back in shape. Even the PM preferences DO GET STALE over time.
One SI after another started to load really slow over here. Sometimes I even had multiple choices from where to take the samples from. Now I know, that I have some duplicates with all my drives attached, but PM designs a structure regarding where to look first. So, I re-scanned those folders concerned. Sure enough, no more "duplicates" messages and loading time was great again. Except for files I did not access since a long time, or files I never loaded.
Yes, I trashed my PM preferences (user/library/preferences/Logic PMData).
Did go to Window > Project Manager > Functions > Expanded Scan, with all my drives attached.
    Then I went to bed.
The next morning, I saved the PM data, quit LP, restarted my computer and... voilá: EXS loading times are up to speed again.
All under the influence of Red Red Wine.
    It works well.
    Summary:
Set up as explained above, go to sleep and be amazed about the power of the PM.
    No punishment involved.
    Tschüß.

  • Project Management - Project Started by InfoPath Form

Hi, I'm struggling to figure out how best to use SharePoint 2010's project management under the scenario below.  Any input would be appreciated.
An InfoPath form is submitted to a library.  The form has 5 possible choices in any combination.  Under each choice would be a separate project/workflow of tasks.  They fill out who is assigned and what is the due date for each task on the
    form.
Every time a form is submitted, new project(s) with specific tasks are created and assigned to whomever was chosen on the form. (I've no idea how that happens, but that's where I'm trying to get to)
EDIT: Maybe it's just a task list and workflows create all the tasks.  Each task would depend on the previous task being completed before being started (predecessors).  Can you create a template of this and just change the assigned to and
    due dates?
Any direction or pointers would be helpful.
    Thank you!

Hi Nalani, you're right on your second thought. You'll need to accomplish this through the use of workflows. See the following link for details:

  • Project Management features?

Has Encore 2.0 any kind of project manager features built in? For example can a project be archived and retrieved with no fear of a major screw-up??
I'm asking as I'm sure both 1.0 and 1.5 crapped out and insisted on absolute paths when re-locating assets... I'm intrigued!!

The safest way to archive any project is probably to use the "Save As" option.
This will recreate everything you need all in the location you specify.
It is always for the best to assume that once you have closed EncoreDVD that you should NOT move any of the folders around.
Relocating offline assets is a lot better in 2.0 however.

  • SharePoint Project Management-Lots of Projects

Hi, I'm in the beginning stages of researching how project management works on SharePoint and how it can work with our projects.  Every client would have a project and that would mean a lot of projects. We would create a couple different
templates for the different types of projects.  It would be best if each project had it's own document library/calendar etc.  How would this best be approached?  We are regional, perhaps each region would have it's own area - or even each office
and the multiple projects would be under there?  I'm looking for ideas for setup.  Thank you!

    Hello Nalani,
At one customer we had a site collection per department and a team site per project of that department. But it all depends on your organisation. How many projects and project documents are we talking about?
Btw, just for my understanding. Do you have other requirements besides storing documents of your projects? If you also want to manage portfolio, project plans, tasks, assignments, risks maybe Project Server can be an interesting thing to take a look at:

  • Premiere cs6 unknown error during the project manager operation

It appears this is an ongoing issue that needs to be addressed by Adobe.
I remember back in CS3 this was an issue and it still appears to be unresolved.  I'm using a Windows 7, HP Z workstation with Quadro FX graphics card, plenty of Ram, with an efficient RAID system. I need to provide a complete project (with files folder & assets in a central folder - maybe even trimmed assets) to my clients.  The Project Manager create Trimmed Project continually fails, as well as Collect files and Copy to New Location.  Following the Adobe instructions, no screensaver, turn off Premiere Autosave, don't use other programs that will impact machine usage - the results are still the same - unknown error - PLEASE ADDRESS THIS ISSUE ADOBE ! ! ! ! So my question is, When will Adobe address this issue?

This forum is mostly other users, with a "few" Adobe employees
You may need to contact Adobe directly... if some other user does not have a solution

  • Incorporation of project management plan into sharepoint

    Hi,
I dont know if this is the intended forum for asking this question.
I have  a business problem of integrating Microsoft Project Plan files into SharePoint and then generate reports from it.
Could you please let me know the process or a link where i can find the know-how for integrating with SharePoint and at the same time also handle the risks/issues and other Project management activities.
    Thanks

    Hello exploreIT,
SharePoint 2010 has a service on top of it called Project Server 2010.
This product actually has things like Reporting (they have Cubes for things like projects, assignments but also risks) and Project Workspaces (SharePoint site templates with Risks & Issues lists).
If you want to know more about the integration I can suggest this article on Technet:

  • Why is there no project management integrated into the ical?

Im looking for a project manager that integrates a calendar.  I would think with all the working parents that they would need a calendar where you could see both home life AND work projects.  I have searched everywhere.  Anyone have ideas???

There is a star like button next to the search bar on the Navigation Toolbar to bookmark the current web page and a "Show your bookmarks" button next to it to open the Bookmarks in a drop down menu.
You can find "Show All Bookmarks" to open the Bookmarks Manager (Library) at near the top of the drop-down list.
If you are on a tab that is bookmarked then "Bookmark This Page" in the Bookmarks menu as well as the tooltip of the highlighted star changes to "Edit This Bookmark".

  • Feature Request:  AE Collect Option in PPro Project Manager

While PPro Project Manager collects linked AEP projects, it falls short of collecting assets embedded with the AEP project itself.  This results in the user having to re-open the AEP project, locate and copy the original embedded media to new location and relink.
Another option is to open the original AEP Project, perform a collectioning within AEP, then having to manually import and replace the media on the timeline in the newly collected PPro.  Tedious considering the complexity of AEPs that can run several layers deep with many assets.
Is this feature possible to add in the next round of updates?

The feature request site appears to be down now, but you should go here when it's back up:
