Projects won't lauch
Hello everyone. I'm reposting this topic in the event that someone has seen this before. Last night I installed FCP 5.0 Full Version. Now all my projects that I've completed in the last 1 to 2 years have all been completed on 5.0 Academic Version. Last night I installed 5.0 Full Version without uninstalling 5.0 Academic Version. Since I completed that task I've been getting a pop up box which states, " The file's format is too new for this version of the application." Basically I can't launch any of my projects off my external harddrives or anywhere for that matter. Is there a way to fix this problem so that I will be able to launch my projects again? FYI last night I completed all of my updates with FCP and the problem still exist. Thanks for your interest and feedback

Actually what I was saying is that it's very possible that your academic install of 5.0 was upDATED (free, of course) sometime during the time you've had it installed on your system. I think the last update to 5.0 was 5.0.4, but there were a few before that.
So if you tried opening a project made in a version 5.0.4 (or 5.0.1, 5.0.2, 5.0.3, etc), it would be newer than the retail version you installed last night (if you haven't yet updated that). So if you run Software Update, you should be able to update the retail 5.0 install to the last available update (which I think was 5.0.4) and your projects should open.
Just to clarify:
--upDATES are free (even for academic versions)
--upGRADES have to be paid for (academic versions do not qualify)
But since you're going to be upGRADING to FCP 6 anyway, the point is moot.

Speedgrade crashing when I try to open a project! Projects won't Direct Link from Premiere either - the menu option is greyed out and I cannot select it. I've installed and uninstalled Speedgrade, all all my Creative Cloud software is up to date.

A few days ago, an iMovie project that was fine if a little slow because it was large suddenly started to freeze when I added or tried to edit some audio, forcing me to force quit iMovie. Now today every time I open iMovie and try to open the project, the little rainbow ball pops up and everything in iMovie freezes, forcing me to force quit it again. I removed the project from iMovie and made more space on my computer and iMovie worked fine, but it started acting up again when I put the project back in. I'm worried the project may be corruputed somehow, especially because this is something I worked hard on for a long time now. I've heard there are ways to fix it, such as putting it through TextEdit or Word for Mac, but the project won't open in those programs. (And before you say it, yes I SHOULD have saved a previous version of it in Time Machine, but I didn't.) If there's a way I can fix this project without losing anything, please let me know!

Captivate (5) project won't open in Web Browser
Hello,
Since a few weeks I can't open my projects in the web browser. Accept one of the projects (only questionslides), i have been searching for differents in the setttings but i couldn't find any differtens. When I publish the project in a .swf still the project won't open.
When I will get a preview in Web Browser or publish, the project is opening in the Web Browser and it looks like the project fade in and out in not even a second. A quick view of the background is visible . But i don't get any massage of error of something. And the page turn white.To preview the project in capitvate is no problem.
I hope somebody could help me out.

I do not know if you have Text Animations in your project? If yes, probably you are having issues due to the latest Flash Player. There is a hotfix to be found in this Captivate blog post:

Recent project won't list my most recent
When I close FCP and reopen it the most recent project won't open. I just reinstalled FCP 6.
Also the window arrangement defaults to the basic setting each time I close.User Preferences > General > "Open last project on application launch"
You can turn this off and on as you wish.
What arrangement are you using when you quit the app? Is it one you've saved as a cutom layout? Are you doing anything that may be trashing your FCP preference files, such as Preference Manager, any antivirus, or any other system utilities? -
3000 Frame Project Won't Open.
My 3000 frame project won't open now. The beach ball just spins. But New and Older projects will open fine.
I trashed my pref and restarted but no luck.Got it. I just went to a "auto save vault" and choose the latest save and it opened.

Lost Power - Now Project Won't Open!
I'm working on an iMac (10.10.2) with an external hard drive.
I was working on the project and some construction next door caused the power to go out. Now the project won't open. Every time I try to open it, the program crashes. I can open other projects from the same hard drive, just not the project that I was working on.
HELP!IIf that opens, then go into the Original Media folders and look through all the clips and see if they're OK. Any clip that has an actual image that appears in the Finder should be OK. Any clip that has a generic QT icon may be corrupted. See if it will open in the QT player. You can also use QuickLook in the Finder and step through the files in the list to see if the run.
if you were titling also check through all the Fonts on your system and make sure none have generic document icons. -
My Robohelp html 8 project won't open after one warning and error message
I'm currently using Robohelp HTML 8 and when I open my project I first get the following message:

The project won't open after that. When I look ate my files they seem to be intact even though the message says the folder is missing from

Unless I'm mistaken, K would be a network drive, no?
Unfortunately RoboHelp is only one of a host of applications that doesn't fare well if you try to make edits to a project while it resides on a network drive.
Try copying the project to your local C drive. Perhaps create a folder named Projects and copy your project to a folder named Primo Intranet inside that folder so it looks like this:
C:\Projects\Primo Intranet
Once you do this, try opening your project again and you will likely have better luck.

Imovie project won't open in imovie?
I was working on my macbook in iMovie '09 on a project on a seagate external hard drive and the events was on the hard drive also. I've never had any problems with it crashing on me until this project and I just used it the day before. After 15 minutes into the project i try adding another title in and it just kept crashing from then on out when i try to add a title and preview the project in full screen.
To add to problem I unplugged the external hard drive (properly) and plugged it in my iMac imovie '11 and just added one title. Then I took the external hard drive back to my macbook and now the project won't even appear in imovie. And when i find the file itself in the hard drive and click to open it, it opens imovie but still no project. Somebody please help. I would greatly appreciated it.
It wouldn't be problem to work on it on my imac expect i have other people using it through out the day and my macbook is easier for me to work on where ever i'm at.
Please somebody say you have the answer?I am only guessing but I suspect the problem occurs when they edit their projects on their personal Macs running Yosemite with iMovie 10.0.7. Editing (and possibly just opening) in 10.0.7 probably makes the projects incompatible with iMovie 10.0.6, the latest version that runs under Mavericks.
It would not be the first time that even minor updates to iMovie make backwards-incompatible changes to projects.
Downgrading form 10.0.7 to 10.0.6 is not at all a straightforward option so other than updating all machines to Yosemite, I'm not aware of a simple fix.

I recently updated my fcpx after doing this one of my projects won't open. In the route project file an additional current version file has been produced it reads as follows - CurrentVersion.fcpproject-journal - Now. When I delete it FCP will open and try to read the project file but it then just wont open fcp at all it just stays on the screen saying reading project.
Can anyone help?

Close FCP. In the Finder, go your project folder and open it. Take the "normal-looking" back-up and move it one level up in the folder hierarchy, so it's at the same level as the CurrentVersion file – like so.
If there is another oback-up (assuming there are two as in the event) take it and the the two CurrentVersion.fcp files and hide them – as Ian recommended – in a temp folder.
Take a screen shot of your back up file in case you need to change the name back later. Change the name of the moved back up file to CurrentVersion.fcpproject.
Open FCP and try to open the project.

in different places: in c:\ My Robohelp Projects and c:\documents and settings\my documents\ My Robohelp Projects. Also, the xpj file was in the latter. So I moved it to c:\ My Robohelp Projects. In addition, I compared the list of documents in the two c: areas. I moved the xpj file to the c:\ My Robohelp Projects.
And there was a folder with the same name of my project within my project file, which is Callout Guide, so it was c:\ My Robohelp Projects\Callout Guide\Callout Guide. I inherited this project and did not want to make any changes at first since the project was generating and working, until yesterday. So with the duplicate folder, Callout Guide, I copied all the files from it into the first Callout Guide folder, which was c:\ My Robohelp Projects\Callout Guide.
If you're still following me, I believe I have all the files I need in the correct folder. So I opened the xpj file, which opened but is missing all the project files. I know the files are there but I need to point something in the right direction. And all the topics are x'd in red; when I try to search it can't find the file. Here are two screen shots: -

Installed iMovie 7.1 projects won't play/event clips will play-no volume
I just installed the iMovie 7.1 (506) update, and now I can't use the software at all.
1. My PROJECTS will not play at all. I can click on a clip and expand it (like I'm going to trim it), and play it from there... but I get no volume.
2. In the EVENTS window my clips will play, but I get no volume.
3. Even the iTunes music I put in the background on my projects won't play, so the sound issue is obviously not related to the clips.
Before I installed this new update, everything was working fine!
I've had nothing but problems since I bought iLife08 and installed iMovie. It's just not working. The previous update fixed all my problems (from the software out of the box), but I had to re-enter all the clips into new projects. Now this new update I did tonight has set me back again. This is costing me time. I've been trying to edit my trip to Europe... and this software is just not working.
HELP!!!!

Also can you put a bug report on this software so I can let the developers know there is a problem.Did you also install the iLife Support 8.1 upgrade? That upgrade is required, according to the iMovie 7.1 upgrade page.

IMovie 09 projects won't load HELP!
Hiya, i have searched all over theplace to try to find out why my projects wont load in IM 09, to no avail.
The below link seems to be the bestbit of information i have worked on.
I have no 3rd party plug in's in thequicktime folder.
I have deleted the last few moviesimported (despite the fact these worked and were later exported)
iMovie will load on another acct thati created, but wont be able to work with whats imported into this acct unless ire upload?
iMovie does start up, i see all myclips i have imported, but none of my projects won't load.
I do have a fair bit of footagethere, but it was working fine when i had a lot more in there (before deletingafter i had used it).

Crazy, huh? Plus, you have to make sure that the iPhoto account is opened to the correct one...this is done by Option Clicking on iPhoto and choosing which account you have the active videos in.
