Have you played much with ( &P )? I know it will allow a user to input a variable. Might work for you.

  • How to setup a default value when defining (prompting) for a value?

    When I prompt the user in a SQL statement then I can declare a default value like in:
    SELECT *
    FROM all_users
    WHERE username = nvl('&myvariable','SYSTEM');
    But when I define a variable this does not work:
    define tablename=nvl('&tablename','test123')
    How can I setup a default value here?

    Is there a way to define a default value DIRECTLY in SQLplus DEFINE command (and not later when the value is used in SQL statement)?no, there is not for DEFINE but you can use ACCEPT:
    SQL> accept tablename prompt 'Enter value for table Name:' default EMP
    Enter value for table Name:
    SQL> select column_name

  • To create a Crystal Report which will prompt for a value and if nothing is entered select the alternative value from the database record.

    Hi Experts,
    I am working on a report in Crystal (2008) which will prompt user to input a value, but if nothing is entered then it will select relevant database value.
    I created a string parameter prompt called "{?Pack_Qty_Overide}" and used the following formula.
    IF {?Pack_Qty_Overide} = ""
    THEN {OITM.SalPackUn}
    ELSE {?Pack_Qty_Overide}
    However, when I check the formula in editor, it says that there should be a number at the end of "Else" clause.
    What am I doing wrong?

    Hi Janos,
    OITM.SalPackUn is Numeric(19.6). When I used parameter input type as number, my formula returned error that "A number is required here" at the "if .... " statement.
    So I used the formula you provided and it worked, such that when I input a quantity in parameter prompt it would display that, but if no override value given, the field remains blank - i.e. it does not display the value stored in OITM.SalPackUn.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks,

  • ADF panel does not prompt for variable defined in ADF view object.

    I have created an ADF Panel, which allows the user to run a few simple queries against an Oracle database done using ADF view objects and ADF view links and ADF application module.
    One of these queries lookup detail information about a given database object (Table, view or whatever) from dba_objects. The SQL uses a parameter (:P_OBJ_NAME) that has a default value of “Departments”. If I run the ADF application module by itself outside of the ADF panel, all works fine, it prompts me to provide a value for the parameter :P_OBJ_NAME.
    As I said the panel contains the different ADF view links including the one that should prompt the user to provide a value for :P_OBJ_NAME. When I run the panel it does not prompt me for :P_OBJ_NAME, it just uses the default defined value “departments”.
    I hope I described my problem for every one to understand. The question obviously is how do I get the ADF panel to prompt the user to provide a value for parameter :P_OBJ_NAME, my expectation was that since the sql in the view object and the application module both are designed to prompt for a value for this parameter then the panel should do just that but it does not.
    You expert input would be most appreciated.
    Thanks.

    The prompting for a parameter is a feature we built into the ADF Tester - it is not a default behavior you get in your application when you just place a VO on your page.
    To get something like this expend the operations node under the VO in the data control palette, and drag the "Execute with parameters" operation to your page to drop it as a parameter form.
    This will provide your user a place to fill out the parameter and press a button to execute the query.

  • Bypass a prompt for broadcasted reports-designer only

    Dear All,
    I'm having a little question concerning @prompt, as I used it in WHERE clause
    to force users to choose only dimension value at a time ('mono' option) to lower
    down number of datas.
    But as reports designer I'd like to bypass this prompt .. is-it possible through
    standard option ? or should I implement a technical trick like create 'ALL' in lov
    and make this value available only for designer?
    I noticed an optional value user:0 in @prompt syntax but coulnd find any documentation
    related to this, does anybody know how to use it ?
    Thanks for your help,
    Rgds,
    Nicolas

    By bypassing the prompt do you mean that the users should not be prompted to enter values in the prompt rather it should pick up a default value and generate the report on the basis of that.
    There is no such way in Designer to bypass a prompt. We can add ALL in the LOVs of the object but still user's will be prompted for the value, here they can select ALL from the LOVs. You can also specify to Keep the Last Values Selected in the prompt. Hence everytime the report the prompt will appear with the Last Value that was passed. You can either change it if you want or can refresh the report with the same value.
    To achieve this you can use "Persistent" parameter.
    This parameter keeps the last entry in the prompt as the default value when reusing the prompt.
    The syntax of @prompt then becomes:
    @prompt('prompt','Data Type','LOV',Mono or Multi,Free or Constrained,Persistent or Not_Persistent,,User:0)
    Here the User:0 or User:1 is used to specify the order of prompts as they should appear in the report.
    BO XI 3.0 also has a feature of "Optional Prompt". You can define a prompt as optional, hence its not mandataory for the user to enter a value in the prompt.
    I hope this should help.

  • Selecting multiple values in a prompt for a BI Publisher report

    Hi,
    I selected multiple values in a prompt for a BI Publisher report and ran the report. The report run fine with single value. But it run to error with mutiliple value. The Oracle Business Intelligence Publisher version is release 11g (11.1.1).
    Thanks in advance

    Thanks for your replies !
    Is there any other way to achieve this ?
    There is 1 InfoObject which has 2 fields Employee and Department.
    Employee     Department
    001                A
    001                B
    001                C
    In the report there should be 1 row for Employee 001 with all the Departments displayed in the same cell separated by commas.
    Can this be done in the backend through a ABAP code?

  • Schedule a Webi XIR2 report to run for all values of the prompt ...

    Hi there,
    Any ideea about if it's possible to schedule a Web Intelligence XIR2 report to automatically run for all  150 different prompt values in the LOV (and have 150 different instances)?
    BOXIR2, Java deployment.
    Many thanks.

    You'd be scheduling the document 150 different times, each for one value of the LOV.
    You'd use the ReportEngine (REBean) SDK to read the LOV values, then use the Enterprise SDK to schedule.
    Here's a bit of code that illustrates how to schedule a Webi doc a single time with specified prompts.  You'd do something similar, but iterate the prompt setting and scheduling:
        IInfoStore iStore  = (IInfoStore) eSession.getService("InfoStore");
        ReportEngine reportEngine =  ((ReportEngines) eSession.getService("ReportEngines"))
                                        .getService(ReportEngines.ReportEngineType.WI_REPORT_ENGINE);
        IInfoObjects objs = iStore.query("Select TOP 1 * From CI_INFOOBJECTS Where "
                                          + " SI_KIND='Webi' And SI_INSTANCE=0 "
                                          + " And SI_NAME = '" + reportName + "'");
        //============================================================================
        // Open Webi document, then get and set Prompts collection
        //============================================================================
        IWebi            webi    = (IWebi) objs.get(0);
        DocumentInstance di      = reportEngine.openDocument(webi.getID());
        Prompts          prompts = di.getPrompts();
        for(int i = 0, m = prompts.getCount() ; i < m ; i++) {
            Prompt prompt = prompts.getItem(i);
            String name   = prompt.getName();
            if("Enter value(s) for State:".equals(name)) {
                Lov lov = prompt.getLOV();
                lov.refresh();
                Values values = lov.getAllValues();
                prompt.enterValues(new ValueFromLov[] { values.getValueFromLov(0),
                                                        values.getValueFromLov(1)});
            } else if ("Enter Shop Id:".equals(name)) {
                prompt.enterValues(new String[] { "261" });
        //===========================================================================
        // Copy prompts over to InfoObject
        //===========================================================================
        PromptsUtil.populateWebiPrompts(prompts, webi);
        //===========================================================================
        // Schedule Webi report to run once now
        //===========================================================================
        webi.getWebiFormatOptions().setFormat(IWebiFormatOptions.CeWebiFormat.Webi);

  • How to search for multiple values with Bex Prompts

    Hi,
    I would like to know  if it is possible to search for multiple values at the same time with Bex Prompts instead of searching one value at a time (please see the screen shot below). I searched the forum couldn't find any relevant answers. please let me know  how  to achieve?
    Thanks,
    Charvi.

    Hi Charvi,
    You can use wild card search to ensure you get multiple similar values listed as search output.use * for multiple characters and ? for single character.
    For Example, Ravi * would result you all employees with first name as Ravi
    You can use various search formats such as * Ravi * and * Ravi and Ra?? etc.
    Thanks

  • Passing two values in a column prompt for display and filtering

    Hi All,
    Is there a workaround to use two columns in a prompt for display and passing the input value for a prompt value in dashboard prompt? For eg we want to display the description in the prompt but pass the id to the filter value or presentation variable, just like we have in bi publisher,LOV automatically grab the two value for display and actual value to pass to the query.Therefore, user will click the description and corresponding id will be saved in presentation variable from the prompt .
    Thanks,

  • Prompt For Value inbetween 2 Calendar Dates

    I would like to know how to set up the following in Answers.
    Report should show sales that occurred in between 2 dates. When the report is run I would like the user to be prompted for a Start Date and an End Date. How can I set this up in Answers. I know I have to create 2 prompts for Start Date and End Date but after this what do I do.
    Thanks

    HI pass the presentation variables for the startdate as 'startdate' and for the End date 'enddate' and save the prompt. In the report level select the column date(the date which you have joined)
    and use the filter for that date and use the between operator and add the two presentation variables startdate and enddate and save the report. Now the report will be filtered based on the dates you have selected.
    check the link below here they have passed server variable for the date prompts but you can use presentation variable.

  • Prompt List of Values in WebI - SAP BI Variable - SAP BI Query -BI Infoset

    Hi,
    We have a Multiprovider built on an Infoset. SAP BI Infoset is built using 2 DSOs.
    There is a SAP BI Query on top of this Multiprovider.
    Multiple-Single Values type Optional Variables are created for some of the Objects of this SAP BI Query.
    Universe is created on top of this SAP BI Query, using SAP Integration kit.
    WebI is created on top of this Universe.
    Prompts are created on some of the Universe Objects, for the WebI report.
    We are facing a typical problem.
    When a WebI prompt is created on one particular object, (which also has a Multiple Single Value type Optional Variable in SAP BI Query), its List of Values is showing up only first three values in WebI. The SAP BI Variable in BEX Analyzer shows up all the 8 values for the List of Values, for the same object.
    The Output WebI report has more values for the object than shown up in the List of Values & this is the problem.
    We tried to keep the settings in Info-object, DSO, Infoset, Multiprovider = Values in Master Data (for the List of Values).
    Similar objects and similar variables for the same query / webi show all the List of Values.
    Any guidance on aspects to be checked would be helpful.
    regards,
    Rajesh K Sarin

    Problem :
    If an SAP BI Infoset is used in data modelling, and a restricted key
    figure is created in the SAP BI Query; the resultant WebI Object Prompt
    for the Info-object, only shows up LOVs which have been used for the
    restricted Key Figure. Both the things are not related except for the
    fact that some of the values for the same object are used for the
    restricted key figure.
    Details :
    We have a Multiprovider built on an SAP BI Infoset.
    SAP BI Infoset is built using 2 DSOs.
    There is a SAP BI Query on top of this Multiprovider.
    There is a restricted key figure in the sap bi query. KeyFigure "Number
    of Records" is restricted for 3 of the relevant Info-object "Meter
    Reading Status" values.
    Universe is created on top of this SAP BI Query, using SAP Integration
    kit. WebI is created on top of this Universe.
    Prompt is created on the Universe Object for Meter Reading Status, in
    the WebI report.
    List of Values is showing up only the three values in WebI (which were
    used in the Restricted Key Figure calculation).
    SAP BI Variable in BEX Analyzer for the same Info-object Meter Reading
    Status shows up all the 8 values for the List of Values.
    The Output WebI report has more values for the object than shown up in
    the List of Values & this is the problem.
    We have kept the settings in Info-object, DSO, Infoset,
    Multiprovider, Query = Values in Master Data (for the List of Values).
    When we delete the "Restricted Key Figure" from the SAP BI Query, the
    refreshed Universe and Webi have a complete set of List of Values
    applicable.
    Steps for Reconstruction
    1. Create Infoset
    2. Create SAP BI Query on Infoset
    3. Create Restricted Key Figure for Number of Records and few of the
    values for a characteristic info-object "X".
    4. Create BO Universe on SAP BI Query
    5. Create Webi on BO Universe
    6. Create a Prompt on the characteristic info-object "X".
    7. Check List of Values for the characteristic info-object "X" in SAP
    BI Query and WebI.
    8. LOVs in WebI are equal to the values used for restriction in the
    restricted key figure.
    9. Delete the restricted key figure from SAP BI Query.
    10. Refresh Universe
    11. Webi prompt shows all the values for the prompt on "X".

  • Crystal Report Viewer Credential Prompt for Report with Dynamic Parameters

    The .NET Crystal Report Viewer is prompting for database credentials when launching a report containing dynamic parameters. This only occurs for reports created with SAP Crystal Reports 2011 designer. Reports created with Crystal Reports XI designer (where dynamic parameters were first introduced) work correctly.
    The credential prompt window contains the following fields:
    - Server Name: <server name> (disabled)
    - Database Name: <database name> (disabled)
    - User Name: <empty> (enabled)
    - Password: <empty> (enabled)
    - Use Single Signon Key: false (disabled)
    The values in the prompt window which are disabled are the database connection values used during the design of the report in the SAP Crystal Reports 2011 designer.
    Expected Result:
    - No prompt for database credentials.
    - Values read from the database should be populated in a drop down for the dynamic parameters.
    Environment:
    - Visual Studio 2010 (C#)
    - Windows 7 Enterprise
    - SAP Crystal Reports runtime engine for .NET Framework 4
    - SAP Crystal Reports, version for Visual Studio 2010
    - SAP Crystal Reports 2011
    The database connection is being set to use a DSN. It must be a DSN as the calling application is only aware of the DSN/Username/Password values. These values are being passed to the Crystal Report Viewer contained in a Windows form.
    The database connection for the report is being set as follows:
    foreach (InternalConnectionInfo internalConnectionInfo in this.report.DataSourceConnections)
        // Must set the UseDSNProperties flag to True before setting the database connection otherwise the connection does not work
        if (internalConnectionInfo.LogonProperties.ContainsKey("UseDSNProperties"))
            internalConnectionInfo.LogonProperties.Set("UseDSNProperties", true);
        // Supposed to set the database connection for all objects in the report (ie. main report, tables, sub reports)
        internalConnectionInfo.SetConnection(this.DSN, string.Empty, this.LoginName, this.Password);
    The SetConnection method's signature is as follows:
       SetConnection(string server, string database, string name, string password)
    As you can see from the code snippet above I am setting the DSN name as the server parameter, blank for the database parameter (a database connection using DSN should only require DSN name/Username/Password) and the database username and password respectively.
    Is this a SAP bug?
    Is this the correct way of setting the database connection to use a DSN?
    Is there some other properties that need to be set somewhere else in the report through code?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for the pointer to the database connection code generator. After taking a look at the output from the tool I was able to finally get the dynamic parameters to load and populate properly without prompting for credentials. I needed to tweak the outputted code a bit to match my requirements of using a DSN only connection.
    Instead of updating the database connection properties contained within the Report.Database.Tables collection from the CrystalReports.Engine namespace, I changed it to replace the database connection properties in the Report.ReportClientDocument.DatabaseController.Database.Tables collection from the CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.DataDefModel namespace. For one reason or another, using the RAS namespace solved the problem.
    Below is the updated code with the change made:
    using RAPTable = CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.DataDefModel.Table;
    foreach (InternalConnectionInfo internalConnectionInfo in this.report.DataSourceConnections)
        // Must set the UseDSNProperties flag to True before setting the database connection
        if (internalConnectionInfo.LogonProperties.ContainsKey("UseDSNProperties"))
            internalConnectionInfo.LogonProperties.Set("UseDSNProperties", true);
        // Sets the database connection for all objects in the report (ie. main report, tables, sub reports)
        internalConnectionInfo.SetConnection(this.DSN, string.Empty, this.LoginName, this.Password);
    // The attributes for the QE_LogonProperties which is part of the main property bag
    PropertyBag innerPropertyBag = new PropertyBag();
    innerPropertyBag.Add("DSN", this.DSN);
    innerPropertyBag.Add("UserID", this.LoginName);
    innerPropertyBag.Add("Password", this.Password);
    innerPropertyBag.Add("UseDSNProperties", "true");
    // The attributes collection of the tables ConnectionInfo object
    PropertyBag mainPropertyBag = new PropertyBag();
    mainPropertyBag.Add("Database DLL", "crdb_ado.dll");
    mainPropertyBag.Add("QE_DatabaseType", "OLE DB (ADO)");
    mainPropertyBag.Add("QE_LogonProperties", innerPropertyBag);
    // Pass the database properties to a connection info object
    ConnectionInfo connectionInfo = new ConnectionInfo();
    connectionInfo.Attributes = mainPropertyBag;
    connectionInfo.Kind = CrConnectionInfoKindEnum.crConnectionInfoKindCRQE;
    connectionInfo.UserName = this.LoginName;
    connectionInfo.Password = this.Password;
    // Replace the database connection properties of each table in the report
    foreach (RAPTable oldTable in this.report.ReportClientDocument.DatabaseController.Database.Tables)
        RAPTable table = new RAPTable();
        table.ConnectionInfo = connectionInfo;
        table.Name = oldTable.Name;
        table.QualifiedName = oldTable.QualifiedName;
        table.Alias = oldTable.Alias;
        this.report.ReportClientDocument.DatabaseController.SetTableLocation(oldTable, table);
    this.report.VerifyDatabase();

  • Calendar prompt for Date variable from bex

    Hi All,
    I have a Bex query where I have a variable on 0CALDAY
    - Customer exit (i_step = 1 to populate with current date)
    - Single value
    - Mandatory
    I created universe on this query and in webI selection screen i do see the variable prompt.
    I am not able to see the current date populated automatically since exit values are not populated to WebI at runtime.
    My problem is that in WebI selection screen we get list of date values from the info provider instead of Calendar prompt
    where user can enter the values directly.
    I am currently on BO XI 3.1 SP3.
    Is there any specific setting in Universe or bex query which is required to get this Calendar prompt instead of list of values for dates?
    Note: When we were on SP1 the universe created then had same variable from bex and it still shows us Calendar prompt but ever since we upgraded to SP3 for the query splitter functionality we not able to get the calendar prompt for date variable in new universe we create
    Thanks
    Ritesh

    Yep.
    Now tell me how you want to show that Prompt @ WebI report level.
    My problem is that in WebI selection screen we get list of date values from the info provider instead of Calendar prompt
    where user can enter the values directly. Exactly, i didn't get this??
    @Prompt:
    You have flexibility to show options like:
    Mono/Multi: User can select Single value or Multiple.
    BW Variable: Same we have (Single/Multiple)
    Free/Constrained: User can Enter his/her value directly or No change option.
    BW Variable: By defalut you will get this, once you made it to Optional input.
    Persistent/Not_Persistent: Refreshed report has to show last selected value means use Persistent otherwise Not_P.
    By seeing the Prompt syntax , I can say your Variable is after Customer Exit, Correct??
    Workaround for your Problem is:
    <FILTER KEY="ZV_DATE"><CONDITION OPERATORCONDITION="Equal"><CONSTANT TECH_NAME="@Prompt('Date (Previous Day)','A','Date\LovDate (Previous Day)Base',mono,primary_key)"/></CONDITION></FILTER>
    You have to remove that Date class and objects from prompt syntax. Because of that it showing up LOV's not calendar.
    Like:
    <FILTER KEY="ZV_DATE"><CONDITION OPERATORCONDITION="Equal"><CONSTANT TECH_NAME="@Prompt('Date (Previous Day)','A',',mono,primary_key)"/></CONDITION></FILTER>
    Why, It should be blank??
    Because Date needs no class\object to show up, by default you will get Calendar on the fly.
    Hope you got my point.
    Thank You!!
