Property name syntax that UIComponent is bound to

Hi,
I am wondering if there are any restrictions on the name of the variable (property) that I bind my UIComponent to?
In particular, I ran into problems when I wanted that variable name to start with capital letter. That is, I have a Java been with the following code, and try to bind <outputText binding=#{MyBean.MyVariable} /> with appropriate entry in the faces-config.xml.
private HtmlTextOutput MyVariable = new HtmlTextOutput();
public void setMyVariable(HtmlTextOuput text)
MyVariable = text;
public HtmlTextOutput getMyVariable()
return MyVariable;
As a result, I got an error that JSF cannot find property MyVariable in the java class com.vadim.MyBean.
However, if I change variable name to start with lower case, e.g. myVariable, things work just fine.
I wonder if this is known limitation, or weather I am hitting some sort of a bug...
Thanks in advance,
Vadim.

I believe this is just part of the JavaBeans spec. JSTL and JSF expression languages look for property methods that start with "get" and "set". The Java naming convention states that you should name your methods with a lower case letter , capitalizing the first letter of new words in the method name. so:
Say you have a field, String name;
the getter for it would be getName()
JSF and JSTL expressions languages expect you to follow the naming convention and do their own internal capitalizing of the method names to find them. By not sticking to the spec, you're throwing off this mechanism and an method not found error is coming back.

    I agree completely. How about also providing a link to a set of input files so that we could actually run the code ourselves? Otherwise, there is no chance to debug the source code, it is just a mess.
    You might have better luck with an older version of the file. To quote the comments:
    // Modified on March 31, 2005. Initialized maxchange in nonlinvoltra() as
    // INFTY. Replaced crnmbr() by a similar, but faster routine interior().
    // Many thanks to Stuart Anderson for pointing out this shortcut.
    I suspect that the "interior" function is just plain incorrect. It doesn't matter if it runs on some other OS. Something about it is wrong and the code is so cryptic that it can't be deciphered.

  • How to get all property names and values of an bean instance at runtime?

    How can I get all property names and values of an bean instance at runtime?
    (The class of the bean instance is dynamic and I can not know before I write the code .)

    Look at Class. It has a way to get at all public methods and attributes.
    If you need to get to private attributes you can do what the Introspector does and expect the methods to follow the Bean pattern and pull the attributes out based upon that. Privates are all hidden from direct access but through the Bean Pattern they can be figured out.

  • Unknown variable or property name 'ReportFilePath'. Error accessing item 'Runstate.Root.Locals.ReportFilePath'. in TestStand

    Runstate.Root.Locals.ReportFilePath

    Shashidhar,
    Thanks for your help! With your tips, I finally got it to work. For anyone else trying to modify report names based on user input after the sequential process model sets the file name path I will re tell what I did:
    Edit the Ni_RerportGenerator.seq plugin found in C:\Program Files (x86)\National Instruments\TestStand 2014\Components\Models\ModelPlugins\
    You go into this file and add the step higlighted in Blue at that same location. Please see the expression I typed in the expression box. Setting Parameters.ReportOptions.NewFileNameForEachUUTStatus to true forces re-evaluation of the report name at the end of the sequentialmodel.seq.
    Then you add a FileGlobal in the sequenatialmodel.seq. I called my FileGlobal ReportFileName
    Then I added an expression in my test sequence that modified the the new FileGlobal I created:
    Finally I updated the report options (Go to Cofigure>Report Options > Report File Pathname and under File/Directory Options select "Specify Report File Path by Expression" and I entered my expression. It appears that you can disregard the evaluated report file path error (box below) because your pathname won't be generated until run-time.
    This worked well for me hopefully it will for others.
    Thanks,
    Marco

  • Spaces In Property Names

    It is a known restriction that DIAdem, and DataFinder coerce spaces to underscores when searching for property names on TDMS files.  The Excel Add-in does something similar.
    But the TDMS file structure and API apparently supports reading and writing properties with spaces in them.  So my question is why does DIAdem and DataFinder not support spaces in the name of properties?  This limitation must exist for a reason since if it were a simple fix it probably would have been taken care of years ago, so I'm not asking for this functionality to change just curious.

    Hi Brad,
    Resurrecting this - it's only a month old, but it's still mild thread necrophilia nonetheless - is there anything in the settings to disable this behaviour if indexing is not of interest to me?
    I ask as I've stumbled onto this feature when trying to tweak a saved NaN value in a LV-generated TDMS before uploading it to an SQL database. On saving, I found the behaviour that Hooovahh describes, plus a few additional properties added. Next time I come across this, having been duly burned this first time out, I'll just do it via LV!

  • Handling property name with spaces in SQL query

    Hello,
    I have some JSON that looks like this:
        "SystemId": "112234",
        "Parameter": {
            "Total Hours": [
                    "timestamp": "2015-03-15T15:20:00Z",
                    "itemValue": "0"
                    "timestamp": "2015-03-15T15:15:00Z",
                    "itemValue": "296"
    ..and am having trouble with the space in the "Total Hours" property name.  When executing a SQL query, I have tried to reference it as ["Total Hours"], [Total Hours], and "Total Hours", but none of these works.  I
    have also reviewed the "Querying DocumentDB" and "DocumentDB SQL Query Language" documents, but am unclear on how to escape this space.  As this is valid JSON, I would expect to be able to handle it via DocumentDB SQL query, but am
    not certain what I am missing.
    Thanks for your help.
    Please remember to mark replies as answers if they help you.

    Given that the property with the name with the space contains an array, I attempted to query using:
     SELECT * FROM c WHERE c.Parameter.c["Total Hours"][0].timestamp = "2015-03-15T15:15:00Z" and a few other permutations, but no luck.  Did I misunderstand?

  • JMS Defined property names are set as "Application" defined properties

    JMS Specification says "JMS reserves 'JMS_<vendor_name>' for provider specific properties " . so when i try to define a application property name as "JMS_Sun MicroSystems"
    it is throwing the exception shown below :
    javax.jms.JMSException: message property name is invalid .
    This is working according to the specification but the same is not happening with JMS Defined Properties.
    I am using J2EE's JMS Provider.
    The JMS Specification says "JMS reserves the 'JMSX' property name prefix for JMS defined properties. "
    This implies that a JMS Client Should not be allowed
    to use them as "Application " property name.
    For example the following code should throw JMS Exception :-
    setStringProperty("JMSXUserID","abcd")
    but instead it sets the application propertyname as "JMSXUserID". This behaviour is against the specification.

    This behaviour is not agains the specification.
    The specification table 3.3 defines who sets the properties, their type and their name. If you read the table two of the properties are set by the client, your assertion would make this behaviour contradictory.
    The others are set by the provider on send or receive. This means that it does not matter what you set them to they will be overwritten when the message is sent, or received, so it is perfectly reasonable to allow the user to set this variable as it is overwritten by the provider.
    If you were to try: setStringProperty("JMSXNewName", "abcd") I would expect this to fail as the property has not been defined yet, and accepting this would be contradictory to the specification.
    In other words. You cannot use the prefix JMS_ or JMSX for your own properties, unless they have been defined previously by the Provider or the specification in which case they may be overwritten anyway.
    Hope this helps.

    Well, that gets to the root of my issue.  I cannot find that property anywhere to change it, nor can I figure out how it got saved in the first place with a space in it.

    I'm using OLE objects to get data from SAP to an Excel file. I have a question concerning the height of the row.
    The diplayed celle should be like :
                   Line1
                   Line2
                   Line3
                   Line4
    But when I display the cell only the first sentence is displayed and the other sentences are invisible. I should change the row's height manually to display the whole text.
    Can you please provide to me the property name that will help me to change the row's height?
    Thank you.

    Don't use an editor is the only real answer.
    Use a regular renderer with states, it's the only way I've found to get some good control over what's going on while "editing".
    Be warned it's not nearly as quick as using regular editors.

  • How do I change the Song Name syntax when Importing a CD?

    I would like to have iTunes use the following Song Name syntax when I import a CD:
    Artist Name - Song Name
    I cannot find where I can change this within iTunes preferences... Any advise or guidance would greatly be appreciated.
    BTW, I am using iTunes 6.0.1.3...

    If you are wondering how to change the title of the song I can help you.
    1. Right click on any song that you would like to name or rename
    2. Click on the option "Get Info"
    3. Once you've clicked, 5 options will appear on the top of the window, choose "Info"
    4.Looking into the window now you will be able to change the name of the song and the artist.
    I hope I answered your question

  • [HELP] Error, Unknown variable or property name '', error. No Details???

    Our production team ran some of our TestStand software when it froze.  Upon exiting the report file contained only one error:
    “Error, Unknown variable or property name ''. [Error Code: -17306, Unknown variable or property name.]”
    This has not happened before with this test sequence.
    Now I have seen this before, during development of other TestStand projects, but there are usually details of the unknown variable in the error.  This one just has empty quotes!  There are around twenty sequences called in this software.  Is this a rouge error, a symptom of the freeze, or do we have an unknown variable issue in these sequences?
    Christopher Povey
    Senior Test Systems Engineer for BAE Systems.

    Hi Christopher,
    As you say as part of the Error Message you should of had the Variable name.
    With this freeze and if you had to force exit of the TestStand, it would seem that to get any report at all you must be doing some sort of 'On the Fly' reporting. If so, can you pin point what the test sequence was doing to try to identify the cause of the freeze.
    Maybe you are obtaining the variable name dynamically and because of the crash this value was not obtained and therefore you were passing an empty string. Hence no variable name in error message.
