Proxies Vs. Adapters: When to use Proxy?

Could somebody list out the scenarios where you would Proxy and where you would use Adapter?
Use Proxy or Adapter: What is the best practice to develop my integration?
An Example Scenario:
Let's say I have data from legacy systems in legacy format in text files.  I have a standard to BAPI to call to send to R/3.  But, I need to do some lookups, code conversions etc. before I call the standard BAPI.  So, we write a wrapper ABAP fucntion, inside there we write lookup codes, and then call standard BAPI.
Should I do this scenario using Proxy or regular RFC adapter?
Thanks.

Hi Sorna,
You can do both but since you got the wrapper function it's going to be much easier (**and faster**) to use RFC adapter
- RFC adapter will be maintained for a quite a long time and it's friendy to monitor
on the other hand proxies are relatively new concept the will be used more extensively more and more in the future
(that's what SAP says as least) but it can only be implemented with WAS 6.20 and above so not all systems will have that possibility
monitoring features of the proxies are on the oter hand based on the local integration server (monitoring - TCODE - SXMB_MONI) on the R/3 system and most probably it will even be improved in the near future:)
but that's just my opinion:)
hope that you'll hear some more others

  • SAP to non-SAP Communication Using Proxy Framwork

    Hi all,
    While searching for the connection option for the B2B collaboration between SAP and non-SAP business system, i found that there are two ways we can do it.
    One using Adapters and another using Proxy Framework.
    In our case We are on SAP Enterprise and non-SAP business partners are using I2, legacy system.
    They are not using Rosettanet PIPS, so I can not use RNIF or any other adapter for the inbound or outbound operation.
    My question is If we use proxy framework, what needs to be done at the non-SAP business system . Do we need to install proxy runtime and how does this proxy runtime will communicate with the application in non-SAP system.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Ruby,
    You can use proxies for communicating with ABAP 6.20 systems and above and for J2EE applications.
    For B2B communication you would normally use an adapter for example plain HTTP, SOAP or RNIF ...
    An alternative is to install the XI PCK on the partner side. The PCK is essentially a standalone version of the XI Adapter Engine installed locally at the partner. This enables a scenario where XI communicates with the PCK over HTTP and then an adapter (file, JDBC ...) is used to communicate with the legacy system and vice versa.

  • When to use RFC ,Idoc and proxies

    When to use the RFC,IDoc and proxies.
    What is the difference in using RFC,Idoc and proxies.
    I want the therotical explanation of it.
    I gone through some of the links.
    i want the explanation which is there in simple words
    and which is easily understand by the bigginers
    those dont know more about adapters.

    hi,
    You use all these three things when the sender or receiver for XI is R/3 system.
    You use proxy in sap 6.0 version or higher.
    you use that when you dont want to use an adapter.
    or very high volume of data has to be transfered.
    you go for rfc which can be synchronous as well as asynchronous

  • When to use the Adapters and in which case

    Hi Experts,
                         I am little worried and searched the sdn, but i am not getting the proper answer for my question.
    My Question is when to use which adapter and at what stage?
    1. File      --> when to use it and in which case
    2. IDOC
    3. RFC
    4. SOAP
    5. XI
    6. HTTP
    And also where to use BPM and Proxies, when should we go for them.
    Please help me out. I Beg the answer from experts.
    Regards,
    Raj

    Hi,
    If an incoming or outgoing message is a file(.txt,.csv etc), we use a file adapter
    If the outgoing message is an IDOC, we need an IDOC adapter.same for RFC also.
    SOAP for incoming/outgoing webservices
    XI while using proxy scenarios
    HTTP- while you an HTTP request.
    BPM and Proxies is a vast topic.

  • HT1665 I have a World Travel Adapter Kit for use with my iPad. can the plug adapters also be used on the Mac Pro charger to charge up my laptop when travelling or is a special converter needed.M

    I have a World Travel Adapter Kit for use with my iPad when traveling abroad. I know this charger can be used on an iPhone, can the plug adapters also be used with the charger of a Mac Book Pro or is a special converter required?

    Is there any concern about the type of travel adapter kit? For instance, some instructions indicate they are for heat creating appliances (hairdryers, curling irons, etc.). I bought such a set, but do they present any issues if used with more delicate electronic circuitry (for iPads, iPods, or with camera battery chargers). I am leaving for the UK on Monday and need to get it right - are they too strong for the Apple products if they are not to be used with computers? What other options are out there?

  • Wheh to use abap proxy and when to use idoc

    Hi All,
    Please provide some clarifications for the below points :
    What is Sproxy?
    2.     Why we are using Sproxy instead of Idocs
    3.   When we are going Proxy ?
    4.   What are the types of proxy ?
    5.   How to Create to Proxy ?
    6.   What the Difference between SProxy  and Idocs
       7.   What is SOAP file? When we are using SOAP file ?
    Thank you.
    Regards,
    Bharat

    Hi Bharat,
    You seem to have a range of Questions. I will try and answer as many as possible.
    What is Sproxy?
    SPROXY is a transaction [T-Code] on the SAP ECC/CRM etc side where you can see the objects designed in SAP PI ESR and develop its corresponding ABAP code. SPROXY T-Code displays the Service Interface. You can read more about it in the following site:
    **************** - XI - ABAP Proxy communication
      2.     Why we are using Sproxy instead of Idocs
    For Certain implementations Standard IDocs may not be available and it is quite tedious to create a Z- IDoC and therefore it is advantageous to use Proxy. You can read more about this doubt in the following links:
    Choosing to use IDOC standard or ABAP Proxy?
    IDOC vs Proxy
    ABAP Proxy Vs IDOC
    3. When we are going Proxy ?
    When there are no Standard IDocs available. Please refer above links to get an answer for this.
    4.   What are the types of proxy ?
    5.   How to Create to Proxy ?
    Again the following link has the answers for both these questions:
    **************** - XI - ABAP Proxy communication
    6.   What the Difference between SProxy  and Idocs
    Difference is in the way the communication happens. Standard Idocs are already provided and you can use them directly while Proxy you will require to write the code on ECC side. You can refer the following link to understand more:
    Advantage of ABAP proxy over BAPI
    7. What is SOAP file? When we are using SOAP file ?
    I have not heard of anything called SOAP file. SOAP is a protocol used for communication and you can send files as attachment in your SOAP to Any(file/idoc/Soap etc) or vice Versa Interfaces. Infact Proxy itself is SOAP based communication with XI 3.0 Protocol.
    Please explore SCN to know more about the various scenarios. There are endless possibilities in SAP PI.
    Hope this Helps.

    Tejas Bisen

  • When to use Java Web Service from WSDL, Webservice proxy, Web Service DataControl -- JDeveloper 11.1.1.7

    Hi Experts!
    I am having confusion among these 3 services provided in Oracle ADF. When to use and what service needs to be used?
    Once we generate Webservice WSDL. With the WSDL we have 3  options in Jdeveloper to invoke this service.
    1. Java Web Service From WSDL.
    2. Web Service proxy,
    3. Web Service Data Control.
    Can anyone give us some brief description of these 3 services when do we need to use and which service is to be used for which scenario ?
    Please give me your valuable inputs.
    Thanks & Regards,

    Hi,
    Can you share your WSDL.

  • Specific changes are left undetected when using proxy indirection

    Hello!
    Recently, the following issue have been identified:
    ObjectReferenceMapping together with ProxyIndirectionPolicy and *UnitOfWorkValueHolder fails to identify specific changes - setting a reference to 'null' when the attribute's value was not instantiated previously.
    Detailed description:
    Consider we have 2 objects: A and B, and A has OneToOneMapping to B and uses ProxyIndirection.
    In initial moment we have A1 that references B1 in DB.
    Then we register A1 for modification. What we have in memory in UnitOfWork? Something like the following:
    A1(Clone) with attribute for B reference uninstantiated;
    A1(Backup) with <null> reference for B, as the attribute is expected to be retrieved when we access B from A1(Clone).
    Then we set reference in A1(Clone) for B to <null>.
    This change then will not be identified during commit phase, because of the result of getAttributeValueFromObject both for B reference in A1(Clone) and A1(Backup) is <null>. This part is clearly visible from the ObjectReferenceMapping.compareForChange method code:
    if ( !owner.isNew() ) {
    backUpAttribute = getAttributeValueFromObject(backUp);
    if ( (backUpAttribute == null) && (cloneAttribute == null) ) {
    return null;
    Accessing the B field in A1(Clone) fixes the problem, because in this case backUpAttribute value is initialized through *UnitOfWorkValueHolder.
    So it seems the part should be reworked to handle such cases, it seems reasonable that fields in backup clones that are using proxy indirection should be initialized even if not accessed to contain all required information to allow correct comparision in such cases.
    Can somebody from TopLink team comment this?
    Thanks,
    Sergey

    This does appear to be an issue. I will log this problem internally, you may want to follow it up with support.
    A work around is to instantiate the proxy in your set methods.
    i.e.
    public void setAddress(Address newAddress) {
    if (this.address != null) {
    this.address.hashCode();
    this.address = newAddress;
    }

  • OWA isue when using proxy

    Hi all,
    First kindly informed that i used Exchange 2010 sp3 ( i did,'t find my version in the list )
    when the internal users try to access owa by using proxy , thet succeed to login but after about 1 min they probt again to enter credential
    if they disabled proxy everything is working fine
    we use isa 2006 as proxy for internal users
    owa is hosted on 2 cas servers ( DNS round Robin used )

     Hi,
    According to your description, credential is prompted after internal users login OWA with proxy enabled. And as far as I know, the credential issue is most likely caused by the improper authentication method.
    Could you please check your authentication method for OWA? Based on my research, Integrated Authentication is not suitable for people who are connecting via proxy servers:

  • Diff between Proxies and Adapters

    Hello,
    What is the difference between Proxies and Adapters?
    Also, why do we need to go for proxies, when we have adapters?
    Priya

    <b>Proxies</b> are interfaces which will get executed in the application system. They can be created only in the system from message interfaces using the proxy generation functions.
    You can use proxies for systems with WAS >=6.20
    XI will communicate in native language with SAP systems via proxies. Proxies uses XML - SOAP based communication for both ABAP and Java Proxies.

    <b>Adapters</b> will convert one format into another expected/target format. means from SAP standard formats and as well as 3rd party formats to target formats.

    Why are you using these lines?
    PortableRemoteObject objPortableRemoteObject=new PortableRemoteObject();

    These are used mailny for CORBA objects( while calling EJBs).

    Yes with proxies
    and the other question is with out using proxys ,we can use XI adapters or not?
    I think No
    and what XI adapter is going to do? is it going to convert the data or not?
    I helps to convert data from SAP to SAP and SAP to NonSAP transfer .
    then which data it is taking as input and in to which format it is going to convert?
    It takes the input as XML format and convert it to XML

  • How to use proxy settings for one website

    Hello,
    I have to access the only one website using Proxy settings and for others I don't need proxy to access. Is there a way to configure the internet settings to allow one website using Proxy... Please advise. Thanks!
    Regards,
    Aravin S

    I am also getting this "error".  The printer (8500 A910) connected to the web well enough that it went out and supposedly downloaded a new update, but then it was supposed to print a page showing the email address, but did not.
    So I go in and try to set up the eprint, and it tells me it cannot connect to the sever and I'll need to enter a proxy address and port number.  But my ISP's cable modems do NOT have any static IP address nor do they provide any sort of proxy service.  Everything works just fine with "automatic discovery" (DHCP) for every computer in the house.  No problems there.
    So, since  that's the case, of course I cannot look up some proxy address and port number in my web browser because they're all set up for "automatically detect settings".
    What's baffling is that the printer connected to something at HP to download the "update", and it went through a process that appeared to be what I'd expect it to do if it was updating its firmware.  But it won't connect to whatever it's supposed to connect to to have an email address assigned.
    Does HP supply a proxy server?  If so, what's its IP address or URL, and what port should a person set the printer to try to use?
    UPDATE:
    It appears that the HP site must have just been "down" for about six or seven hours while I was trying to get the printer to connect because it now connected and I got an email address asigned without needing to have any "proxy" stuff set up at all.  It's a shame that the printer does not simply report "HP Site down - try again later" instead of reporting that you need to use a proxy when that's impossible.
    "Now, on to the next problem which is that my emails to the assigned address are all bouncing with a "550 5.7.1 Command rejected" error!
