PS created JPEG's won't open after being emailed

first, apologies if this has been discussed here before, but the search on the adobe forums is dreadful at best, so i wasn't able to find the answer that way...now...
i'm working in CS2 on the only Mac in my company of 100+ doing design work (print ads, web ads, etc) The majority of the other systems here (and 100% of the ones in my department that i work directly with) are running Windows XP.
When i save files created or modified in PS as JPEG files and email them to others, they are unable to open them - in Image Preview the error is "unable to generate preview", in other programs, it just fails to show up. HOWEVER, if I transfer the JPEGs over our network, the problem doesn't occur. Also, if i save them as PDF's, they open fine. While this is a workaround, it can't be permanent, because not everyone is on the network, and i can't be running into this issue when i email files to people outside our business.
The only solution that one of my Windows-using colleagues has come up with is to open the faulty JPEG with her version of PS (which works fine, making me think that the file itself hasn't been corrupted through the email) and simply re-save it. Also, an annoying workaround, and she has the only other copy of PS here, so it's not like anyone else can do that.
So, any thoughts? Maybe simply a cross-platform issue? Is there a setting i'm missing in my JPEG options? Oh, i'm running OS 10.4.11 on a 2.3G Intel iMac if that helps...
thanks in advance

For the record:
Jim Jordan aka Jim Oblak aka deafeningechochamber. aka Ken Vogel, aka Cleveland Steamer, etc., has just changed his Jim Jordan identity to Zaldidun, so that all posts by Jim Jordan appear as authored by Zaldidun. [E.g. posts #1, #3 and #5 in this thread. Other posts elsewhere.
This is a blatant attempt to enrage me as Zaldidun is a Basque word I have used in the path to a server space where I keep a few inconsequential images.
Just keep that in mind.

first, thanks to the people who attempted to help me out with my issue, RE: http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.59b56540/16
next, i was wondering if Steffen Unger knew what sort of patch was needed for Outlook - you do mean outlook on the receiving end, correct, and not entourage on my end? Was it a simple update or is it a specific patch? Zipping the file is an easy workaround, but if i didn't have to, it'd just be that much simpler.
lastly, wow. are you people like 7 years old? this is supposed to be a place where people come for help, and that isn't helping. why don't you go check out AOL? i hear they have some pretty kick-a forums where you guys could chat...

The person that posted that info left the forums because there was a collective disregard for knowledge. And now we are asking for that same disagreeable knowledge? hmmmm.
For gardner, Rene, Cindy, and anyone else that would like to learn instead of argue and insult, see...

Notice how the MS KB article notes nothing about JPG files in particular; it simply states "
In Office Outlook 2003, you cannot open Macintosh binary attachments". This means that ZIP files (also binaries) might demonstrate problems as well. So while some think it takes little or no effort to zip before sending, zipping is clearly not the cure. It is just extra work... a distraction.
There are two ways to resolve this. Either way works but repairing the issue on the Mac end (the sender's system) is easiest.
    1) For Mac users, check your mail attachment settings in your mail program's preferences and make sure that your MIME encoding is set to be compatible with Windows. Changing this setting will not affect how other Mac users will receive your mail.
    2) For Windows users, apply the May patch to fix the March patch.
Now to set this thread off into another 60 posts of insults and arguments, let me share this other controversial knowledge that I'm sure some nuts are going to want to argue endlessly...
    >The PC considers everything after the first dot to be the file-suffix.
This comment is not true. Ramon, who is a Windows user that we still allow in this Mac forum, can affirm that you can have multiple periods in a file name on any modern platform. A file named 'oh.no.you.didnt.jpg' is always read as a JPG file.

  • PDF files created in Preview won't open in Adobe Reader

I consider Preview to be a swiss army knife when it comes to working with PDF and graphic files. Lately (since the last OS update?) PDF files created in Preview won't open in Adobe Reader. Reader either crashes or just becomes unresponsive. I've been able to open the files in older versions of Adobe Professional but Reader 8 or 9 can't open the files. Anyone else experiencing these problems?

Yes. We noticed this problem after upgrading to 10.6.7. When we made a PDF from Word 2011 or even Text Edit through Adobe's "Save as Adobe PDF" it would hang. When we made a PDF using Apple's "Save as PDF" it would lock up Acrobat Pro 9 and also Acrobat Pro X. NOTE that this only happened using Adobe OTF fonts.
I posted this problem on Adobe's forum and received a message from admin there that this was caused by a change in font handling with Apple's 10.6.7 update.
As of yet, no solution has been posted. I also received a message from Adobe's Tech Support that it was forwarded to their engineers.
    Still waiting.

  • IPhoto won't open after reinstalling

iPhoto won't open after installing "bundled software only" from the Leopard cd. The thing is that I already had everything installed , I installed the bundled software thinking that it would install the bootcamp in my mac (I know , I'm stupid...It is because I never had a mac..
    What shoud I do?
PS: other program are not working either , iWork and Garage Band.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
    Start with the troubleshooting basics:
    1. Repair Permissions using Disk Utility
    2. Delete the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. You'll need to reset your User options afterwards.
    3. Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts) and see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account.

    Your help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi Joy
Unless I'm mistaken, K would be a network drive, no?
Unfortunately RoboHelp is only one of a host of applications that doesn't fare well if you try to make edits to a project while it resides on a network drive.
Try copying the project to your local C drive. Perhaps create a folder named Projects and copy your project to a folder named Primo Intranet inside that folder so it looks like this:
    C:\Projects\Primo Intranet
Once you do this, try opening your project again and you will likely have better luck.
    Cheers... Rick

  • IMessages won't open after Mavericks upgrade

iMessages won't open after I upgraded to Mavericks. I keep getting prompted to "enter the keychain password," but I never created a keychain. I never used it before the upgrade, and I skipped the step during the upgrade because I did not want to use keychain and it was an option to skip it during set up.

    HI,
The OS X Mac have been using Keychains for a long time.
In the Applications/Utilities folder open Keychain Access.
This should show you at least two keychains.
The Login one for your Mac User account and the System one.
Generally speaking the Keychain keeps the passwords used by various apps and it needs to be Open.
In most cases the Login password for the Mac Account user is also the password that opens the Keychian when the computer is started up.
As each Mac User Account owns it's own Keychain there can be issues when you drag an account from one computer to another rather than using Migration Assistant.
i.e. you might Own it on one computer but not on another.
In the Finder > Go Menu hold down the ALT key and select the Library that appears.
In the library navigate to Keychains.
Click to highlight the Login one.
Now use the CMD and i keys together (Get Info)
At the Bottom unlock the padlock
Highlight the name that has (me) next to it (it should be your Shortname).
Once you have highlighted this use the cogwheel item at the bottom.
This should be greyed out but saying "Make you (Me) the Owner."
You should also have Read and Write permissions like in the Pic.

  • ITunes won't open after OS update to Yosmite

ITunes won't open after OS update, ITunes has been updated, it won't open or bounce. It will not allow me to move it to trash or reinstall it. I have already updated to OS X Yosmite two times as directed by apple, I have rebooted in safe made as well as Command/Option/P/R before start up. I have opened console/system log to see if there is anything going on but when I click on Itunes nothing happens, not even so much as half a line of script. I'm stumped. If I wanted someone to tell me to turn it off and on again I'd just watch IT Crowd. please help

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities
If you head into your applications folder and locate iTunes. Right click iTunes and show package contents. In there there will be a contents folder --> MacOS --> double click on the iTunes terminal icon. This should force iTunes to open via a terminal window and at the very least it will tell you what it is getting stuck on.

I get a Windows error code of 0x666D743F
    First see:

    There are some other possibilities
That error has been known to be produced by having Total Recorder or the Volume Logic plug-in installed on the PC.

  • ITunes won't open after update; MacBook Pro, Mac OSX 10.6.8, iTunes version 11.1.5

iTunes won't open after update - help, please; MacBook Pro, Mac OSX 10.6.8, iTunes version 11.1.5.

i had a problem similar to yours and better yet, i have the fix for it. i downloaded maverick 4 months ago and was without itunes ever since. all itunes icon did was bounce. itunes would never open and whats more, is when i would try to update it, i would get a "thank you for downloading itunes!" page , but the download would never work. so i scoured the net for solves. nothing that worked. <4 months later> then last night i took a new approach. i decided even though maverick would not allow me to uninstall itunes, i would find a way to uninstall itunes. then i would reinstall back to 11.1.5 i was successful and heres what i did.
    step one-
Back up your iTunes Library.itl file, found under ~/Music/iTunes
(even tho i didnt, i only had 3 artists in there at the time. and they didnt get erased but i advise you back up just in case.)
    step two-
download itunes 10.7 from apple. i used this link Download it from Apple here
(i pulled the link from Aarons website (awesometast.com). you download 10.7 however you want but i used the link above and have had no issues).
although im not sure you need to do this step ( you may be able to download 11.1.5 itunes without 10.7, i did because i was following intructions from http://awesometoast.com/downgrading-to-itunes-10-7-from-itunes-11-on-osx/
    step 3-
    open Terminal
    step 4-
enter in these 3 commands hitting return after each line. 1st line nothing seems to happen, 2nd line nothing seems to happen and 3rd line gives you a warning and requires password to continue. when i did it, my password didnt appear as i entered it and i hit return without looking, so i entered it in again, although im not sure i had to the 2nd time.
    killall iTunes
    killall "iTunes Helper"
    sudo rm -rf /Applications/iTunes.app/
    step 5-
drag off and dump the itunes icon (which now has the ? shadow in it) off your dock.
    step 6-
install 10.7 itunes you downloaded earlier. (not sure if this part is neccesary. you may be able to just download 11.1.5 but i downloaded 10.7 because i was following Aarons steps.) itunes now works.
    step 7-
go to apple and update to 11.1.5 itunes. install it. open it and you have itunes 11.1.5 in perfect working order. assuming you have a decent internet speed for the downloads, the whole process takes very little time.
with those steps above, you can solve itunes just bouncing and not launching issues and also the "thank you for downloading" and nothing downloads issue. enjoy. also i would like to give a shout out to http://awesometoast.com and thank Aaron for the knowledge that enabled me to get itunes back into my life.

  • ITunes won't open after downloading software update.  Macbook Pro OSX10.6.8  Simple solution?

iTunes won't open after downloading software update.  Macbook Pro OSX10.6.8  Simple solution?  And by the way, this is apparently a common problem and Apple has completely failed to warn in advance or offer a quick straightforward solution - used to be a good company, but it's becoming just another crappy screw-the-consumer corporation.

It would help to know versions here.  I'm guessing your update put an older version of something into a place where a newer version of something iTunes put in there existed.  Updating an earlier OSX version to 10.6.8 is still only updating to system software that was issued several years ago.  If you are running some slightly newer version of iTunes issued subsequent to 10.6.8 and you just updated to 10.6.8 you may have put in an older version of something iTunes uses.  Anyway, I'm guessing here until we know exactly what you did.
