PS CS4 histogram and floating windows

How do I get Photoshop to open with floating windows and the histogram in compact RGB mode? I have to reset this every time I open a new photo. I can't believe how hard it is to change modes in the histogram.I have to undock it, change it to expanded view, change the mode, change it back to compact view and redock it. This made sense to someone? I tried saving the workspace, but that doesn't solve the problem.

  • 3D full screen and floating window issue

    hey everyone,
since the new pdf viewer (adobe acrobat 10) released i've got an issue with the 3d fullscreen and the floating window.
the first photo below shows the default view in a 3d scene. if i'm selecting the floating window (or the fullscreen) there is a problem with the camera (position, targetPosition and the behavior).so the view is wrong and the position of all nodes in it, and up to now i am unable to fix it
Does anyone has this problem as well and can help me?
    cheers frank

    hi good morning,
i was on holiday for 5 days now so sorry my late answer. I tried to set the default view in the u3d model but it doesn't work as well
i loaded up a file that does not work in fullscreen as well as in the floating window (http://www.fileuploadx.de/76685).
The javascript errors at startup were evoked, because i deleted some models that aren't needed but the javascript tries to load it. But they don't have any effect to the scene so far.
In the floating window (or fullscreen) something with the camera must be wrong. I deleted the buttons (you can see as billboards in the scene) and then it works. So i tried to figure out the problem and let me displayed the position of the camera after each rendering event simple by (console.println(scene.cameras.getByIndex(0).position). Even if I displayed all cameras, that were about 50 surprisingly, it was the same overall. If the scene is embedded in the pdf document the camera position changed as it has to be. In the floating window and in the fullscreen i did not record any changes of the camera ...
does anybody has an idea ?!
    cheers frank
ps: please use adobe reader 10 to see that issue. with version 9 everythings should work fine.

  • Combining tiling and floating windows

    hi all,
I am thinking about buying an external wide-screen monitor for my laptop. I want to use this monitor as a split-screen, but what I want is not entirely a tiling window manager. For example, I want the left side contain an editor and the right side contain the shell, web browser, etc. floating. So in a sense I want a combination of a tiling window manager and a floating window manager (the tiling is only for the split-screen).
I have done a bit of searching and it seems it can be done. The following programs should make it possible:
    Tile-windows
    http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=16168
    Whaw
    http://repetae.net/computer/whaw/
    Wumwum
    http://wumwum.sourceforge.net/
    Stiler
    http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=25038
    And threads about this topic:
    http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=48048&p=1
    http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=64100
I am thinking about using it with LXDE (i.e. Openbox window manager). My question is: does anybody have experience with any of the above programs (or a similar program not listed above)? I'm interested in how well these programs work and how easy it is to use them.

I tested Whaw, Wumwum, and Pytyler:
    Whaw:
Very intuitive to use for split screen (both vertical and horizontal split). Simply move the mouse to the top-left screen and click the two windows you want to view as split-screen. The only downside is that there aren't any keyboard shortcuts. Something like ctrl+l and ctrl+r for placing and resizing a window to the left or right side of the screen would be nice.
    Wumwum:
I found wumwum a bit cumbersome to use. I have to cycle through various modes to accomplish the vertical split screen. Secondly, the split doesn't seem split perfectly. The left window is somewhat moved to the right. A bit annoying if the left window has a scroll bar, because only half of the scroll bar is visible then. I also couldn't find an easy way to maximize the window back (there is a full-screen option, but full-screen is not equivalent to maximized)
    Pytyler:
Pytyler seems to brings a complete tiling window manger. It immediately places the main window in the left side of the screen and the other windows are vertically stacked in the right side. You can probably accomplish the vertical split screen if you use its workspace feauture, but then it requires more work to manage everything.
Whaw is probaly the best option for simple vertical and horizontal splitting.
Everything was tested on KDE 4.2.3.
Note: The Grid plugin for Compiz also seems to do quite a nice job. There a video of it in action on youtube:

  • Illustrator (and ALL CS4 applications) overtaking all windows.

Does anyone else have the problem where, say, you drag a multitude (for arguments sake, say, 10) files over the Ill CS4 dock icon to have Illustrator open them in the background while doing other work, but as Illustrator opens each file, it over takes all other windows and forces you BACK into Illustrator while it's opening each file? I've never had this issue previous with any other CS version on the Mac.

  • Wingo: floating and tiling window manager with per-monitor workspaces

    More screenshots.
Wingo has two features which, when combined, set it apart from other window managers (maybe):
    1) Support for both floating and tiling placement policies. Wingo can be used as a regular floating (stacking) window manager, complete with decorations, maximization, sticky windows, and most other things you might find in a window manager. Wingo can also be switched into a tiling mode where window decorations disappear, and windows are automatically managed via tiling.
    2) Workspaces per monitor. In a multi-head setup, each monitor can display its own workspace---independent of the other monitors. This makes changing your view of windows in multi-head setups much easier than in most other window managers, which will only allow you to see one workspace stretched across all of your monitors. Also, since placement policies like floating and tiling affect workspaces, this makes it possible for one monitor to be tiling while another is floating!
    Inspiration
Wingo is heavily inspired by Openbox and Xmonad (and of course, pytyle). Basically, Openbox's floating semantics (although most window managers are the same in this regard) and Xmonad's automatic tiling style plus its workspace model (workspaces per monitor). I've also adopted Xmonad's "greedy" workspace switching and embedded the concepts from the "DynamicWorkspaces" contrib library into the Gribble command system.
    Configuration
Wingo is extremely configurable. This includes binding any of a vast number of commands to key or mouse presses, theming your window decorations and setting up hooks that will fire depending upon a set of match conditions.
All configuration is done using an INI like file format with support for simple variable substitution (which makes theming a bit simpler). No XML. No recompiling. No scripting.
Configuring key/mouse bindings and hooks uses a central command system called Gribble. For example, one can add a workspace named "cromulent" with this command while Wingo is running:
    AddWorkspace "cromulent"
But that's not very flexible, right? It'd be nice if you could specify the name of workspace on the fly... For this, simply use the "Input" command as an argument to AddWorkspace, which shows a graphical prompt and allows you to type in a name:
AddWorkspace (Input "Enter your workspace name:")
The text entered into the input box will be passed to the AddWorkspace command.
Please see the HOWTO-COMMANDS file for more info. We've barely scratched the surface.
    Scripting Wingo
So I lied earlier. You can kind of script Wingo by using its IPC mechanism. While Wingo is running, you can send any command you like:
    wingo-cmd 'AddWorkspace "embiggen"'
Or perhaps you can't remember how to use the AddWorkspace command:
    wingo-cmd --usage AddWorkspace
Which will print the parameters, their types and a description of the command.
Want to pipe some information to another program? No problem, since commands can return stuff!
    wingo-cmd GetWorkspace
And you can even make commands repeat themselves every X milliseconds, which is ideal for use with something like dzen to show the name of the currently active window:
    wingo-cmd --poll 500 'GetClientName (GetActive)' | dzen2
Finally, you can see a list of all commands, their parameters and their usage: (even if Wingo isn't running)
    wingo-cmd --list-usage
(Wingo actually can provide enough information (or will soon) for ambitious hackers to script their own layouts in whatever programming language they like without ever having to deal with X at all. Assuming it has support for connecting to unix domain sockets. Or you could just use a shell with 'wingo-cmd' if you're into that kind of tomfoolery.)
    Dynamic Workspaces
Having some set number of workspaces labeled 1, 2, 3, 4, ... is a thing of the past. While Wingo won't stop you from using such a simplistic model, it will egg you on to try something else: dynamic workspaces.
Dynamic workspaces takes advantage of two things: workspace names and adding/removing workspaces as you need them.
This is something that I find useful since I'm typically working on multiple projects, and my needs change as I work on them. For example, when working on Wingo, I might add the "wingo" workspace, along with the "xephyr" workspace and the "gribble" workspace. When I'm done, I can remove those and add other workspaces for my next project. Or I can leave those workspaces intact for when I come back to them later.
With Wingo, such a workflow is natural because you're no longer confined to "removing only the last workspace" or some other such nonsense. Plus, adding a workspace requires that you name it---so workspaces always carry some semantic meaning.
(N.B. I don't mean to imply that this model is new, just uncommon; particularly among floating window managers. I've personally taken the model from xmonad-contrib's DynamicWorkspaces module.)
    Tiling layouts
Right now, only simple tiling layouts are available. (Vertical and Horizontal.) Mostly because those are the layouts that I primarily use. I'll be adding more as they are demanded.
    Dependencies
Wingo is written in pure Go (including all of its dependencies). As such, Go (and git) is the only package necessary to build and install Wingo. Once Wingo is installed, Go can be removed. (No Xlib/xcb, no cairo, no gui toolkits.)
    Installation
Wingo is in the AUR. Alternatively, if you have a Go environment set up, you can download, build and install Wingo and all of its necessary dependencies with:
    go get github.com/BurntSushi/wingo
    go get github.com/BurntSushi/wingo/wingo-cmd
(Yes, Go's build system is really that awesome.)
    There's a lot more at Wingo's github.
Please note that Wingo should be considered in a very alpha state. I've been using it for a little bit myself, but beyond that, Wingo is untested.

    Thanks :-)
netfun81 wrote:Does "go get github.com/BurntSushi/wingo"  always pull the latest from git?   Can i just delete the wingo executable from go/bin and run command to upgrade to latest or do I need to delete config files each time to remain compatible?
Yes, `go get ...` always pulls from the latest git. I make sure that Wingo builds before pushing to `master`. I'll use a different branch for any longer term experiments.
You could use `wingo-git` in the AUR, but `go get` is just as good. (Indeed, the PKGBUILD uses `go get`!)
One note those, use this to update to instead:
    go get -u github.com/BurntSushi/wingo
    go get -u github.com/BurntSushi/wingo/wingo-cmd
You shouldn't have to delete any executables.
As far as configuration files go... I'm not sure. I haven't figured out how I'm going to handle them yet. I don't think any well-formed configuration file will break Wingo, but it's certainly possible that old configuration files will miss out on new features/options. (For example, I just added some new focus follows mouse options.) Wingo will always maintain an in-memory default configuration, so missing configuration options will also never break Wingo.
You can always check out the new configuration files by running `wingo --write-config`. You'll have to move `~/.config/wingo` to a temporary location first though.
If you're installing from the AUR, I'll try to add post installation messages for any big changes.
FYI, I should say that installation is so easy because of Go. :-) /plug

  • CS4 Copy and paste to new Project

When I copy  (or cut) and paste an audio clip to a new project timeline the sound is fine but after I save the project I see the video and the sound file but no sound. The sound file still plays in Soundbooth but not on the project timeline. I tried rendering the clip but no lucki. Any suggestions?  Thank you in advance.

I haven't remapped the keyboard. In the CS4 (which I am using) help  shows "M" as the key for Match Frame. Also I am targetingthe audio track and moving the CTI over it and pressing "M" as you suggest but no luck.
I guess I will just have to find another work method to complete my project but I really thank you for your efforts on my behalf

    Stanely,
One thought - have you remapped your keyboard?
Also, and a CS5 user will have to step in here, it could be that Match Frame has changed. It did between PrPro 2.0 and CS3/CS4, so it is possible. In the CS5 Help file, what is shown for the keystroke?
Last, are you Targeting your Audio Track, Selecting the Audio, moving the CTI over it, and then pressing M?
Just thinking there, and good luck,

  • CS4 menu and title bars missing

    Hello,
I have just upgraded to CS4 and am attempting to get acquainted with the new workspace options.  Is there a way to maximize a floating window in Standard Screen Mode without losing the menu and title bars?  I figured out how to drag images to CS4 and have them open as floating windows instead of tabs.  However, when I maximize one of the images/floating windows, the menu and title bars are left out and are not visible.  I would like to set the menu and title bars  so that all images appear beneath them whether they or maximized or minimized.

  • CS5 Floating Windows

I have read web posts and help files, experimented and still have not figured out the new CS5 floating windows operation.  I prefer the style of CS3 where each photo is in a window (I can get this part).  In CS3 when one clicks on image to maximize it fills up the entire PS screen.  With CS5 it fills up the entire monitor and there is no tool bars in PS showing.  Have made various combinations of "open documents as tabs" and "enable floating doculments window docking" but maximize still has same effect to fill up monitor.
In addition, when one minimizes image in CS5 it is no longer visable in PS.  One can retrieve it by clcking on windows and then the image, but this is more awkward than just clicking on the minimized icon at bottom of screen as with CS3.
    What am I missing?

You've pretty much got it right.
They expect you to use the Windows TaskBar to get to your minimized windows.  Are you running Aero in Windows Vista or 7?  Windows 7 provides the nice TaskBar Live Preview Thumbnails.
About the only thing additional I can offer is that if you choose the zoom tool (magnifying glass icon), right-click in a window, and choose "Fit on Screen" the window will be made to fit in the Photoshop main window.
Since Photoshop 3 I used windowed view.  CS4 finally pushed me over the edge to switch to the tabbed view, and I tried going back for a while with CS5, but now I'm just sticking with tabbed view.
You do know about the button at the top of the screen for aiding in screen arrangement, switching back and forth, etc. right?

  • How do I keep a floating window on top of a tabbed document so that it can be used as a reference while drawing/painting?

Just started using Photoshop CC on my iMac and I have noticed this issue which I did not have using windows based computers. Any floating window just seems to hide in the background as soon as I click on the tabbed document I want to work on. This is an issue for me since I like to have a couple of references open while painting plus I always have another with nothing but my color palette in it. I've already gone over the preferences but can't seem to find the way to avoid this and the options from Widow>Arrange weren't any help also resizing all windows so that they don't overlap each other ends up wasting a lot of screen real estate.

c.pfaffenbichler meruhelp this is what I'm used to in Windows windowsWORKSPACE | Flickr - Photo Sharing! and yes the active document does not need to be the top most window. This enables me to have my references as floating windows and keep them where I need them as I paint.
This is what I have to do while working on my Mac macWORKSPACE | Flickr - Photo Sharing! keeping references to either side using floating windows or options from Window>Arrange. If I drag them closer to the area I want to work on, the window will either disappear behind the active document window or it will overlap as you can see in the two images in the top left corner. Aside from the extra work from rearranging windows this way I feel that I'm loosing a good chunk of screen (see yellow striped area).
