PTP (Precision Time Protocol) configuration

Hi,
Is there anyone has configured PTP on IE-3000 switches? I have some problems with the configuration and operation. Below is the summary of what I've done and the porblems.
There are two IE-3000 switches with ip services 15.0 (2) SE4 IOS. One has configured in the boundary mode to become master clock and the other one has left in the e2etransparent mode. There are two inter-connection links (via Cat6 ethernet cable) on Gi1/1 and Gi1/2 interfaces on both switches. All inter-connect ports are up and running. Both switches have same IOS, same hardware almost identical except IP configuration etc. Main problem is SW2 is not able to sync with SW1 as master clock (this is my understanding), and also it seems PTP on SW1 has wrong reading of local clock time. But in fact I have NTP server in the network and NTP is syncd. I've included some of the configuration and output here, if someone has experience in configuring and running PTP I would be thankful to give me some help here.
Regards,
Tohid

So if I have a L2 network consisting of severall access switches connected via trunks to a distribution, with PTP clients in differing VLAN's, as long as each VLAN has a connection to the PTP source then the client will receive the PTP timestamp allthough subject to switching delays?

  • Can IPSLA work with PTP(Precision Time Protocol) or Synchronous Ethernet?

    Hello Sir.
I'm working on IPSLA with NTP, but I couldn't get the value of One-Way Delay in IPSLA.
I think the time gap between the Source and Responder is bigger than the acceptable time gap for One-Way Delay in IPSLA.
So, One idea hitting my head is to use the PTP or SynchE, but I'm sure if it will be working or not.
And another condition in this scenario is that the network device which was originally working as a master in NTP should give the time value to other systems i.e PC and servers. PTP or SynchE can give ??

  • Do Catalyst switches forward Precision Time Protocol (PTP) packets?

I understand that the Catalsyt Switch range do not provide PTP Boundary Clocks. However can they still forward PTP packets from a PTP server to a PTP client connected to a port on Catalyst Switch, in particular the 4900M and 3750-X series. I do understand that any switching delay would affect the accuracy of the PTP clock.

  • Firewall blocks Apple's Network Time Protocol

    Hi,
I admit to not fully understanding everything about the Firewall on OS X server 10.4.11 and I'm hoping someone can help with a little(?) problem.
On the WAN side, my "gateway" server is connected directly to my SpeedTouch 780 modem with a fixed IP address. On the LAN side are a couple of switches and then an Airport Extreme base station (192.168.2.249). This broadcasts wirelessly to a more distant Airport Express (192.168.2.247). Both WiFi devices are configured to obtain the time from Apple's European servers.
After completing a Carbon Copy Cloner of my OS partition and rebooting on my usual volume I noticed the following denials in my Firewall log:
    Dec 28 12:50:16 nl1 ipfw: 65534 Deny UDP 17.72.255.12:123 192.168.2.249:3987 in via en0

Under, Edit Services for: 192.168.2-net (en1/LAN)
I have the "Allow all traffic for: 192.168.2-net" checked.
    1) Why is this traffic being blocked?
    2) Why does the port number seem to get changed in transit? (I've got NAT running and Open Directory).
    3) Does the configuration under, "Allow only traffic for: any" overrule all other Firewall settings? So if for example a port under, "Allow only traffic for: 192.168.1-net on these ports" wasn't checked but was under, "Allow only traffic for: any", would the traffic be allowed through?
    Thanks and happy new year!

Do you have NTP activated? Does it work? If it doesn't and you have the firewall activated, then open the required port. If it is working then don't worry about it.

  • Use network time protocol on ciro to get timestamp?

I would like to grab a timestamp from a network time protocol server like NIST on a cRIO device connected to the internet. How can I do this? There has to be someone in our labview community that has done this before or knows how to do it. Code examples appreciated
    [will work for kudos]
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The network time protocol functionality of the crio synchronizes the crio's internal time to that of a Network Time Protocol server once per minute. This insures the crio's time is always accurate within a few milliseconds (I forget the exact specs).
Using the article linked earlier i modified the ni-rt.ini file with the code given there and used the ip of one of the NIST Automic Clock NTP servers in Boulder, Colorado, which I found here: http://tf.nist.gov/tf-cgi/servers.cgi
I have tested and confirmed this works quite well for my application.
From my understanding, you are trying to use the crio's NTP functionality to synchronize the crio to the clock on your computer. Considering the fact that the crio's clock is much more accurate than the one on your pc, this seems a little backwards. What I would suggest you do is find a program that synchronizes your computer's clock to an external NTP server and choose the same NTP server that you have configured the crio to synchronize to. I recommend one of the NIST servers I told you about. I do know that windows has the ability to synchronize your clock to an NTP server of your choosing and you may not need to get any external software at all, you and your crio would just need an internet connection
You did not specify what kind of accuracy in your synchronization you were hoping to achieve, but be sure to look at the specs of both the crio sync and the program on your pc to see what kind of accuracy you will be getting.
If this is not an option, there is another way to 'synchronize'. If you are using a crio-pc architecture where the pc is triggering an acquisition on the crio you can simply record the pc's time when the trigger is sent and send that timestamp over shared variable to the crio to be recorded along with your data as the time when the acquisition started. Then the dt between data points will remain constant so you can extrapolate timestamps from there.
I hope I helped. Let me know what you think.

  • JDBC Polling in a precise time

    Hi,
I want to use in an XI scenario a JDBC Sender to do a polling on an oracle database view. But I want to do this polling on a precise time of the day, for example, at 03.00 AM, every day. How can I do this? Moreover, I can do the polling on a database view instead of a database table?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
From SP 19 / SP 10 you have adapter Scheduling ( Availability Times ) available and this can be used to start your adapter at that time and turn if off correspondingly.
If you are below SP 19 / SP 10, then you might have to use a BPM and use some extrenal report to trigger the BPM flow at the correct time and then use the receiver JDBC adapter with a synchronous select to do this.
JDBC adapters can poll over Oracle Views as well.
    I would suggest a upgrade to SP 19 / SP 10.
    Regards
    Bhavesh

  • Old problem with precision time counting and /usepmtimer solution.

    Hello, all!
There was a problem in Windows XP and 2003 Server with using QueryPerformanceCouner() function. Sometimes it can cause problem with precision time measurements on CPUs which support powersaving modes by changing clock frequency. The simplest solution for that was /usepmtimer key in boot.ini file which forces the system to use another timer.
I just want to know does this problem appear in Windoes 7? And how to solve it since there is no boot.ini file in Windows 7?
    Thanks a lot!
P.S. This is a page with detailed description of the problem:
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/895980

    Hi ,
There is official documentation released on userpmtimer for windows 7 operating system.
Also the KB article only refere to the OS which have performance problem.
After reading the below article , i feel that this problem is taken care in windows 7 / windows 2008 ( though there is no formal written documentation )
    http://blogs.technet.com/perfguru/archive/2008/02/18/explanation-for-the-usepmtimer-switch-in-the-boot-ini.aspx
you can post in windows 7 dedicated forum, so that MVP / Microsoft Engineers and community members would suggest you with latest data if any.

    Hi guys
I've tried all links given here, but none of them are working properly. I've tried saving and opening, but either way I got a corrupted file.
Is there any other way I can download it?
I actually have CEW, but I think it is the old version, so I'm getting the following message:

  • MSS Time Approval Configuration and Time Approval that breaks from OM Struc

    Time Approval Configuration
Custom Relationship Configuration for Time Approval that breaks from OM Structure
    Thanks,

depends on your settings in workflow 'agent determination'.
in sap std workflow the agent for leave approval by default is the 'chief' position holder of an org unit.
so i guess you may want to copy the std workflow into your customer name space and have a workflow consultant customise it to enable the workflow to use the z-relationship object instead of the chief position holder.

Reason: Airport Utility cannot find my Airport Extreme (4th generation) wirelessly on my Time Capsule configured network even although the firmware in both units is up to date.

I thought you were trying to Extend the network with an Express as the article mentions you pointed to...
You can't find the Airport Extreme then...
I woudl suggest doing a Factory reset....
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3728
Then you should be able to set it up just as you did when it was new....
Factory default reset (using reset button)
If the AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule isn't accessible from AirPort Utility, the Factory Default reset can be accomplished by using the reset button.
Unplug the AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule from power.
Press and hold the reset button with a pen or pencil, then plug the AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule back in while continuing to hold the button until you see the light (LED) flash rapidly. This should happen after a few seconds.
Release the button. This will factory default reset the AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule.

  • Help needed in Time Capsule configuration

    Hello everybody,
sorry in advance for the probably dummy questions, but I have just bought a Time Capsule and would like some advice in order to obtain the best possible configuration for my needs (the configuration guide was not so clear to me).
I linked the TC via Ethernet to my modem/router (I have a Vodafone Station 2), and I have the following requirements:
    1) let the TC become the primary WiFi source: what is the best way to do it? Shall I deactivate the Wi-Fi on the Vodafone Station? Shall I create a new network or extend the existing one?
    2) create a guest network (possibly with another password): I can I do it? I didn't succeed in doing it...
    3) I would like to use the TC internal hard disk both as a sort of reporitory for my MacBook Air backup, and at the same time as an external hard disk; can I do it directly or should I create a partition on the disk?
    4) I would like to add another external HD via USB to the TC, in order to have access to its content through various devices (MacBook, iPhone, iPad, PC) linked to the WiFi network. Also in this case I couldn't get it... How should I do that?
    5) Finally, I have a question: is it possible to remotely access (e.g. via 3G) the TC hard disk?
Thank you in advance for any help you can give me!!

You do not want to extend.. well actually you cannot extend a non-apple router.. so put that out.
The TC will probably have to be in bridge mode.. but it can become the primary wifi source.. simply create a wireless network. Turn off wireless in the vodafone station.
But from your other requirement of a guest network.. you cannot do that in bridge on the TC.. so why not use the vodafone station as your guest network. Give TC wireless a different name. Fix the channels. Try to have them sit a bit apart from one another.. A few Meters at least.
    2) create a guest network (possibly with another password): I can I do it? I didn't succeed in doing it...
You cannot do guest network with the TC in bridge. So you need to either bridge the modem and use pppoe client in the TC.. that depends on if your ISP supports PPPoE authentication.
    3) I would like to use the TC internal hard disk both as a sort of reporitory for my MacBook Air backup, and at the same time as an external hard disk; can I do it directly or should I create a partition on the disk?
This is not really a good idea.. You cannot partition a TC.. Mixing data and backups can be done but it is not necessarily going to work well. The primary design of the TC is a backup target for TM and mainly looking at laptops.
    Look at Q3 here. http://pondini.org/TM/Time_Capsule.html
Pondini is our guru on all things TM.
Particularly remember any files offloaded to the TC have no backups.. And TC is not reliable enough to trust. It is a single hard disk and has no form of automated backup.. nor can TM backup a network drive. Any backup of info on the TC has to be done manually.
    4) I would like to add another external HD via USB to the TC, in order to have access to its content through various devices (MacBook, iPhone, iPad, PC) linked to the WiFi network. Also in this case I couldn't get it... How should I do that?
The USB port of the TC is renowned for being underpowered even if the hard drive is powered you might need a powered hub. Some hubs work and some don't so even that is not simple.
USB drive has to be formatted Mac Extended Journelled. Or fat32.
    5) Finally, I have a question: is it possible to remotely access (e.g. via 3G) the TC hard disk?
In your case the answer is probably.. but this will not be easy.
Apple's only method is BTMM via iCloud, but the TC must be the main router in the network.
That means you need to bridge your existing modem.
You might be able to get it to work via the existing modem. Please google remote access time capsule.
You will need to port forward AFP to the TC in the modem and use ddns to find the correct address unless your ISP has given you a static IP.
Sorry for the glass half empty answer.

  • XBOX Live and Time Capsule Configurations

I've been searching now for just about an hour online, and unfortunately my head is spinning just a bit trying to figure out how to configure my XBOX Live with Time Capsule.  In order to allow for Open access (versus Moderate), it seems as though some manual configurations need to be made so the XBOX and Time Capsule play well together.  But the thing I am unable to figure out is...HOW DO I DO THIS?!  Specifically, what are the steps I must take to configure Airport and/or XBOX?  What information do I need from the XBOX?  I've been reading about port forwarding, which seems to be the solution, but I really am not familiar with how this is done on Time Capsule.  So for those of you with the know-how and patience to write a play-by-play for dummies from the very beginning to the point where all should work, I'd appreciate it.
Just a quick insight to my network...I have Time Capsule connected to my ISP modem.  Thank you!

And isn't the "host device" and "base station" the same thing?
No, host device is the box that is the server you are trying to map to.. base station is the Airport Extreme as he is writing more to that market.. TC is the same though.
Just port forward the standard ports for xbox live.. I do not believe all of these are necessary.
    http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-live/connecting/network-ports-used-xbox-live
Xbox LIVE requires the following ports to be open:
    Port 88 (UDP)
    Port 3074 (UDP and TCP)
    Port 53 (UDP and TCP)
    Port 80 (TCP)
Make sure you lock the IP of the xbox .. using dhcp reservations in the TC is the best but on the xbox will also work.. the rest should be straight forward.
Tell us a bit more.. What model TC do you have? A1xxx from the base please??
What is the ISP modem? Is it also a router.. if so consider hard using the router in the modem.. if it is upnp so xbox can work automagically .. rather than killing yourself mapping ports.. the advantage of upnp is more than one xbox can work on the same LAN.. you can never do this manually forwarding ports.
What Airport utility are you running? Do you have access to v5 utility? If not I can give instructions to load it on Mountain Lion.
What firmware is the TC on? Lots of issues with 7.6.3 ie the latest one.. so 7.6.1 is better alternative. Always and in some earlier TC then 7.5.2 is much better again.
