Purpose of "posting in gl" field in depreciation area
Hi,
I am confused with the posting in gl field in the depreciation area because if i choose area posts depreciation only then i noticed the area also post APC values together with depreciation values. Then what is the real purpose of this function?
You need a debet and credit posting.
With the retirement this account is possted as 0. See it more as an offset account.
You post 1 area normal and one only deprreciation, when yes the second posting
When you put this account outside your standard balance stucture you don' have problems with reporting.
The profit and loss accounts you have to assign to a different P&L Statement Account Type. This account you place there to, the same you have to thee with scrap value, profit/loss on sales.

Fixed asset Write up Error. ABZU(Parallel depreciation area 32 is not poste
Hi Sap Gurus,
I am running into an error when trying to post a write up via "ABZU". Here is the error message "Parallel depreciation area 32 is not posted". Message no. AA565.
Diagnosis
The asset to be posted does not manage parallel depreciation area 32, or transaction type that you are using is limited to certain depreciation areas, and does not contain depreciation area 32. This is incorrect.
System Response
Posting is rejected.
Procedure
Check the asset and the transaction type.
I tried "Limit Transaction Types to Depreciation Areas" in t-code:OAXE for derpeciation area 01 and 32 but still i am getting the same error. I am using ttype:700. When i look into derpeciation tab in asset master record i have depreciation area 32 is there. Is there any configuration piece i am missing. We are using area 32 as IFRS in group which is copy of 01.
Any help will be appreciate.
Thanks and Regards,
BabuHi,
There are the following reasons:
1) The wrong transaction type is being used. Please verify that you are using transaction type in the 700 series for your write-up.
2) The transaction type is restricted to certain depreciation areas. In transaction OAXE the transaction type can be restricted to post only to certain areas. If the asset manages a parallel area you have to extend the posting to include the parallel area.
3) The asset was created before you introduced parallel currencies and does not manage the parallel area. In this case, the parallel area must be created on the asset or the values need to be transferred to a new asset that manages the parallel area.
4) Transacion types 600 and 601 can only be used for assets that have a calculation key in their depreciation area that allows no automatic calculation (for example depr key MANU). The unplanned transaction types however can be used with assets that allow automatic calculation.
You also need to verify that there are entries in Table ANLB for the asset in question for the depreciation area.
5) Your company code uses parallel currencies (currency types 10-co.code currency, 50-Index based currency, 30-Group currency...for example). The assets created in this company code must have the depreciation areas for parallel currencies active. You can only do this in activating the depreciation areas with parallel currencies for all the asset classes used in this company code.
Check transaction OAYZ to make sure the areas are activated for all asset classes in the co.code. If not, you will need to activate these areas and ensure the asset has all areas assigned.

Parallel depreciation area 04 is not posted.(Assets)
Hi All,
I have found below mentioned error at the time of Advance knocking off.(F-54)
Parallel depreciation area 04 is not posted.
I have found below mentioned error at the time of Advance knocking off.
The error message number :AA565
The Asset to be posted does not manage parallel depreciation area 04,or transaction type that you are using is limited to certain depreciation areas and does not contain depreciation area 04. This is incorrect.
Please help out for this issue.
Thanks and Regards,
RamHi Ram
With regards to the issue, if you have activated the use of parallel currencies, all assets created in this company code must have the depreciation areas for parallel currencies active. You can only do this by activating the depreciation areas with parallel currencies for all the asset classes used in this company code. Check transaction OAYZ to make sure the areas are activated for all asset classes in the co.code . If not, you will need to activate these areas and ensure the asset has
all areas assigned.
Another reason why the error message appeared could be the asset was created before you introduced parallel currencies and does not manage the parallel area. In this case, the parallel area must be created on the asset or the values need to be transferred to new asset that manages the parallel area.
I hope this information helps.
Best regards

System Response
Posting is rejected.
Procedure
Check the asset and the transaction type.Hi John.
In "Specify use of Parallel Currency" setup your currencies type/Valuation view.
In Currency Type/Valuation View, against area 31 maintain it for 31 (Group Currency Group Valuation) and against area 40 maintain 40 (Hard Currency). Transfer of Deprecation terms setup from Deprecation
area “01”. Setup like below.
Now go to below
Maintain your currency as per requirement and see if changes are updated as per above configuration (I mean valuation id is "01" for your depreciation area, try to execute your transaction and let me know if it’s working.
After that go to define depreciation area and see if your depreciation area setting for 01, 31 and 40 is same. Please try to check in Sandbox first.
Please mark it as correct if your problem resolves, so it would be useful for other as well.

I have checked all the relevant settings which might cause the above error, but, in vain.
Parallel currencies for the Co.Code are configured:
1st locl cur: INR; Type: 10 - Company code currency
2nd locl cur: EUR; Type: 30 - Group currency
3rd locl cur: USD; Type: 40 - Hard currency
Transfer of dep terms, transfer of APC values & Identical terms for depreciation areas are seemed to be correct. config screen prints attached below.
Still unable to trace out the root cause of this error.
Kindly provide your inputs to solve this.
Thanks,
KesavHi Vivek,
Thanks for your response.
Parallel depreciation areas were deactivated earlier. I have activated them now. I also have inserted parallel dep areas through AFBN as they were missing in the assets.
After the above changes, system allowed me to post unplanned depreciation.

Change Value in Depreciation Area that does not generate posting
Hi,
We have a depreciation area for fiscal values that does not have any posting in G/L. Such depreciation area should have the same value as the posting area, but now some of our assets have 0 in fiscal area and we would like to have the same as the posting area. How can we change manually the value of the fiscal depreciation area? We would like to change only such depreciation area and not the others.
Thank you very much,
ArianaYou can create a new transaction type (a copy from 100) and limit this transaction type to your fiscal depreciation area.
Then you can make with this new transaction type and the transactions abso the postings in asset accounting -
Logic of different Depreciation Areas
Hi,
Kindly tell me the logic of different Depreciation eys?
Regardsdepreciation areas are used to calculate different values in parallel for each fixed asset for different purposes. For example, you may require different types of values for the balance sheet than for cost accounting or tax purposes. You manage the depreciation terms and values necessary for this valuation in the depreciation areas of each asset.
SAP allows you to define up to 99 depreciation areas, you can manage many different types of valuation (Customizing: Valuation). Depreciation areas are grouped together, according to the requirements of a specific country or economic area, into a chart of depreciation
You can post both the asset balance sheet values and the depreciation values from the individual depreciation areas to separate balance sheet accounts or income statement accounts in the general ledger. You specify the accounts individually in the account determination key for each depreciation area. Define the account determination key in FI-AA Customizing and specify the key in the particular asset class
Usually you need to post more than one depreciation area in parallel to the general ledger if you are creating different financial statement versions. You can define any number of balance sheet versions per chart of accounts in FI (General Ledger) for this purpose. For each balance sheet account and income statement account, you specify in the financial statement version the balance sheet position or income statement position in which the account values should appear
The depreciation areas in a chart of depreciation have no automatically defined features. You determine the features of each area individually, based on the basic structure, which is the same for all depreciation areas. You can make specifications for the following levels for each depreciation area:
At the chart of depreciation level
At the company code level
For legacy data transfer
Features at Chart of Depreciation Level
Use
You can specify the following features for a depreciation area at the chart of depreciation level (Customizing: Valuation ® Depreciation Areas).
Features
Posting Values from Depreciation Area to General Ledger
You can automatically post asset balance sheet values (APC/ proportional value adjustments) and depreciation from each depreciation area to the corresponding general ledger accounts. You can choose whether values are automatically posted immediately online in Financial Accounting (at present, only possible for one area per chart of depreciation; with two exceptions: investment support areas managed on the liabilities side, and areas solely for revaluation), or are posted automatically at periodic intervals to Financial Accounting.
In addition, you can specify that only depreciation (no APC values) should be posted automatically. This type of posting might be useful for depreciation areas for cost accounting depreciation.
Managing Certain Values
In the definition of a depreciation area, you can specify if the area should manage acquisition and production costs (APC). Areas that do not manage APC are, for example, depreciation areas only for value adjustments shown on the liabilities side (for example, investment support).
In addition, you specify in each depreciation area whether the net book value of assets in the area is allowed to be positive and/or negative. The system rejects any posting that leads to a net book value that contradicts the rule you entered.
Allow negative net book value in all areas
That have depreciation below zero
That are intended for value adjustments shown on the liabilities side
That are derived depreciation areas, and can have negative values because of their calculation formula. -
Can a derived depreciation area be a real area for depreciation postings?
Example :
Book area 1 (real) : $100,000
Area 2 (not real) : $120,000
Derived area : Area 2 minus Area 1 = $20,000 (depreciation calculation based on this)
Is above possible?Hi,
the F1 Help of the field "real depreciation area" says:
Set this indicator if you want the system to store the values of this depreciation area in the database (meaning that the area is not a derived depreciation area). The values in this area are then updated each time a posting is made, and can be immediately evaluated.

Explain for me about depreciation areas
Hi everybody
please explain for me about depreciation areas.
I see Depreciation 01: it'll post to GL
How about depreciation areas?
Thanks so much
NgocptHi
Depreciation areas are used for different scenarios for calculating your depreciation. Normally you will have to calculate depreciation like book depreciation, tax depreciation, net worth depreciation, and like. These can be represented in depreciation areas and the depreciation area 01 (book depreciation) posts in real time as you said.
Am I clear ?

Different Settlement Across Depreciation Areas
Hello Experts.
Does anyone know if the following is possible:
- Within depreciation area XX I would like to capitalise to an AUC. Costs may sit within the AUC for a long period of time (up to 2 years) without depreciation.
- Within depreciation area YY i would like to capaltise direct to a Fixed Asset and commence depreciation immediately.
The asset initially should exist only in GL accounts specific to area YY.
When subsequent settlement is run a further asset should be created specific to the accounts in XX.
I cannot consider the option of creating the asset in both areas and simply not running depreciation in XX. My client has an important requirement to mantain the asset as AUC within XX but also charge depreciation in YY.
Any help or comments would be greatly appreciated

Ronan.you post the values to book depreciation area.
remaining depreciaton areas get the acquisition value from the book depreciation.

Depreciation area deactivated and reactivated
Hello dear all,
Depreciations Areas 03 & 08 have been reactivated for posting to GL yesterday.
Depreciation area 03 = depr. area 01 - depr area 02
Then users run AFAB and system is calculating depr 03 = depr 02
Now the depreciation 03 is activated, but the posting is wrong.
I need to know if there is a solution to correct those posting made in depr 03 due to that bad customizing ?
Thanks
Edited by: Tarek AYACHI on Jun 3, 2010 4:42 PMHi,
plaes make a AFAB repead run with the rigth customizing and the depr. will be corrected.

Hello Sap Experts
I have a doubt on exact use of depreciation area in asset accounting.
We control the rate of depreciation and method of depreciation through depreciaiton key.
So what is the exact use of depreciation area in asset accounting.
Kindly explain.
Thanks & Regards
Deepak Garghi deepak
A chart of depreciation is actually list of various depreciation areas.
Each depreciation area represents a requirement of reporting asset depreciation for
a. balance sheet
b.tax purposes
c. Cost accounting
Further each depreciation area could also report based on Accounting principles e.g. GAAP,IFRS based on the valuation areas.
The chart of depreciation is assigned to a company code.
