QoS-drops

Hi.. I have configured service policy on tunnel interface but i am seeing packets are being drop in default class even if bandwidth is not full utilized.
I have been running 20MB mpls circuit and configured GRE tunnel b/w two locations over mpls circuits. I have assigned 15mb to FTP traffic.
pls tell me why there is drops even if link bandwidth is almost available.

As Vasilii has described, you can compute the additional delay you might impose by increasing queue's limit (NB: keep in mind, though, queue depth is in packets, so if the same number of packets were smaller in size, maximum latency would be reduced).
If you want to allow a single TCP flow to be able to use all the bandwidth, you'll need to insure your queue can handle about half the BDP.
Doing so, again, risks increasing the possible maximum latency.  However, using QoS, you can sometimes get the best of both.  Low latency for light weight flows and maximum transfer rate for bandwidth hogs.

  • Nexus 5500 qos drop priority

    Hi
    If I have two COS values within the same queue on a 5500 port can I set drop priority for them ? I am looking at setting in contract and out of contract data rates for some VMs, setting the COS value dependant on this and then getting the 5K to be more likely to drop out of contact data.
    Its whjat I would do on a 6k or 7k with assigning different tail drop thresholds to different COS values in the same queue.

    Thats what I kind of figured after reading all the docs. Makes it a bit of a pain as there really arent quite enough queues for what I want to do.

  • Troubleshoot QOS - EEM & TCL

    Joe,
    We have another urgent requirement and need to troubleshoot QOS.
    What we need to able to do is
    1, Report Qos drops based on DSCP value. (show policy-map interface command does not work for us!)
    2, Report packet with value of DSCP value 0 ending up in the default-class (Only for troubleshooting )

    If there are no CLI commands which can provide you with what you need, I'm not sure how EEM is going to help you here.  EEM really only has visibility to the control plane.  EEM 3.0 does offer some Netflow integration, but I do not think you have that version.

  • BT Broadband, BT Vision and Qos.

    We have had a good reliable service with BT Broadband, consistently achieving 7.2 Meg. When the contract came up for renewal we did so and with BT Vision. However, the activation day came and went for the Vision with no service on the BTVision, repeated error codes and many attempts to update the software which always failed. After many phone calls we were advised that the Broadband had not be set for BT Vision and two weeks later the box sprang into life! However, only the BBC IPlayer worked, the others didn't. Another call to India and was advised there would be a recall. No recall so sent an email instead and then recieved a response to say that QoS was missing from the line and the line would be updated in a couple of days. This happened and the box started to work correctly.
    Soon after we noticed that the response times on the PC's had slowed, so we started doing speed tests and other checks and instead of the 7.2 that we were previously seeing, we were lucky to see 2 Meg! At the time, not knowing any different we started to check and test the PCs in the house, but whatever we did, any time of the day, it was 2 Meg. My son on his PS3 had to give up on-line gaming as the responses were so bad! Using the BT Speed test showed us that the profile was 3500 with a download speed of 1829kbps. However the DSL connection rate was 6752kbps?
    Called India again and went through all there scripted tests -twice as something failed the first time. With he result that an engineer was promised a visit. On the morning of the visit, speedtest.com started showing that we were back up to speed. When the engineer arrived, we did the BT Speed test which showed a profile of 3500 but a connection speed of 4.2M. He said that this was not possible as the profile should always be higher than the reported connection speed. The engineer then did all his tests and every time it showed up 7.2M with very few, if any errors. He said that when he left he would request that the line profile be reset and when he was on the point of leaving we redid the speedtest from the PC to see that the speed had dropped down again. BT man tested the line again and yes the connection rate was 7.2M but speedtest said only 1.9M. He then changed the hub with no difference saying that we should use port 1 for BTVision. He left saying that give it 72 hours for the profile to be reset and see what happens.
    The profile has now been reset and it shows 5500kbps. BT engineer said that with a download speed that we have he would expect a profile of 8000kbps. However we still have the slow sub 2m connection speed.
    Reading other posts, I understand QoS is designed to ensure BTVision always has a 2Meg service and the rest is for everything else. Also I am given to understand that when the box is off the QoS drops much lower, so allowing more bandwidth for other applications. That is definitely not happening on my line. All QoS appears to be doing is limiting the line speed for everything to 2Meg irrespective of the line capability with an occasional (once) upspeed.
    Is there anyone out there that can explain what the problem is and what should actually happen as I can't believe that to make the Vision box work correctly, everything alse has to suffer!
    (To cap it all the BT Vision box power supply has started to emit a loud annoying high pitched noise when in its red mode).

  • How do I track down QOS "Aggregate Drops" in a 6807-VSS switch?

    When I do a "show platform qos" everything looks good except for this:

    Any idea if these drops are QOS related and/or how to get more information about them in order to troubleshoot?  OFE means 'Output Forwarding Engine'.   There are no input or output queue drops on any of the interfaces doing a "show interface gx/x/x."

    Aggregate drops is just a total of drops from all the different internal processes.  The OFE Bytes matches the policing drops.  I'd assume policing is what caused these drops.  The packet number difference may be due to fragmentation.

    I have experienced the following situation recently. It hasn't fixed yet. If you have any idea, please advise. Any comments are welcome!
    The problem was that the voice packets have been dropped in class Voice despite the fact that the interface's utilization is quite low. Please see the policy-map interface output below.

    I removed the service-module from the multilink interface and restored. I repeated the procedure for a few times. At some point, I noticed that queue-limit of LLQ changed from 192 to 384. I didn't change it manually. It was changed by itself. Then the drop stopped.

    Does anyone know how does the IOS calculate the queue-limit in LLQ? I know that it changes dynamic in LLQ but would like to know the algorithm.

    With both LDP LSPs and MPLS TE LSPs traffic is forwarded inside MPLS frames and so EXP field of the topmost label is accessible to P routers to provide diffserv QoS treatments.
    Usually P routers implement only outgoing scheduling (queueing) combined with congestion avoidance (WRED).
    The service policies are applied outbound the physical interfaces.
    Rate control of what traffic enters the MPLS cloud both LDP LSPs and MPLS TE LSPs is made on PE at the edge before traffic enters the MPLS space.
    DSCP bits should not be accessible inside the MPLS cloud once the ip packet travel inside an MPLS label stack.
    Actually some inside inspections can be performed for flow based load-balancing purposes.
    So policing on the P routers is not used in general.

    Hi, i have a phone thats no working fine, it unregister all the time from the sip server. 
    The port connected to the phone has output queues dropped on queue 1. ¿That's normal? ¿What could be the cause that there drop packet?

    Hi,
    your queue limit is 20 packets. This can explain the behaviour. If there are 20 packets in the queueing system waiting to be serviced any newly arriving packet will be dropped.
    Basically you can have drops in any queue in any queueing system if there is a permanent overload situation. There is no magic trick, if you f.e. permanently send 2 Mbps voip towards a T1. There will be drops.
    QoS does not create resources, it just distributes them among your important traffic classes.
    Besides this I also would suggest you to use class based queueing based on Modular QoS CLI (MQC). It is more flexible and precise than the old legacy methods like priority queueing, which you are using. On the other hand, if this is sufficient for you, why not.

  • Problem with QOS for SIP on RV082

    Hello,
    I have problem with quality of VOIP call with Linskys RV082.  Firmware is 2.0.0.19tm.
    Router is configured as dual-wan , one port (WAN2) is for ADSL 8000/512kb and other one is (WAN1) SHDSL 8000/8000kb.
    VOIP traffic from certain IP of LAN is routed to WAN2 (through protocol binding). We have quaranted QOS on ADSL by ISP.
    Problem is that voice is dropping when we load WAN2 with other data  connection.  Last week i reload new firmware, restore default factory and configured router whole again. All was ok only for 1 day and then voice was dropping again.  I mean that problem is at mark packets, because when I put VOIP PBX in front of behind router , QOS is working fine.
    Can you help me? Is this know issue?

  • Wifi connection drops down. [SOLVED]

    Hi, I'm having some issues with the wifi, in my notebook lenovo b5070. The main problem is that the connection drops down after 20, 30 minutes. I tried to change from NetworkManager to Wicd, but that didn't change anything. I also tried to create a profile and connect me through netctl, but again that didn't change anything. Other issues that I'm having are: Sometimes I can't even connect to the wifi, or if I can connect finally, and I try to request some website, the browser keeps idle and finally shows a "Server not found" message. Also the wifi signal seems pretty fine. I also tried change the tx, rts to the max with iwconfig, but this didn't change anything. I'm running out of ideas. Any idea?

    So long I tried as Gusar said to loading the rtl8723b module with those params:
    sudo modprobe rtl8723be fwlps=0
    sudo modprobe rtl8723be ips=0
    So far by now, the connection hasn't dropped (one hour since I made the change)
    But is quite strange that when I do
    [astinx@compu ~]$ more /sys/module/rtl8723be/parameters/ips
    Y
    I mean, the parameters changed or not? I also tried with setting with N instead of 0.
    EDIT:
    The drop downs come back shortly after. I find quite strange that I cannot manage the power from iwconfig

  • SPA112 line drops after 1 minute

    Hi All,
    I have an SPA112 and its all configured to work as per my network settings. However, it keeps cutting out the line after every minute. Not sure what the real problem is. I've updated the firmware to the latest..still the same thing...Any thoughts, anyone?

    Hello All,
    I'm getting below error while trying to add the two extended ACL in the class-map for classifying the traffic. Is there any way I can add two extenteded ACL in the same class-map for classifying the traffic.
    Error log: "QoS: Multiple acl entries cannot be used in match-any in class Tag_AF13"
    device details: cisco WS-C6506-E with Supervisor Engine 2T
    IOS version -s2t54-adventerprisek9-mz.SPA.150-1.SY1.bin

    Hi Rajan,
    Thats because of the logic used for ACl operations, as per your config you are class-map match-any. The match any argument says that the class map must match either of the two arguments supplied.So lets take a look at how the sequence of operations of how this will be interpreted by your class map.
    1> Any particular packet will be first matched against the first ACL "XX".
    2> Suppose there are 10 entries there if it matches any of those entries the appropriate action will be talen.
    3> If none of those entried match the packet there will be an implicit deny at the end of the ACL( default behaviour of ACL's)
    4> In that case the packet will match the implicit deny and will get dropped.
    5> The packet will under no circumstances go to the next ACL "XY"
    Thats the reason multiple ACL's aren't allowed by the IOS.
    You can try to collate both ACL's and put them in just one ACL that should work well. If you need help please pots both the ACL's.
