QT from isight requires rendering

I notice that when I make a QT video with the built in isight camera on the imac, and bring it into FCE, it all requires rendering. Is there a way to set FCE to avoid this?

Hi(Bonjour)!
Any material included in an FCE's timeline that not conforms to sequence settings will need rendering.
As FCE HD can does only DV and HDV and as iSight output someting like H.264 or mpeg (I do not own/use this hardware, so I dont know this info), every footage captured from iSight needs rendering.
One way to avoid this is to convert your original footage to a format natively supported by FCE (DV NTSC-PAL or Apple Intermediate codec for HDV) in quicktime player PRO.
Once converted and imported into FCE, this newly converted material will play without the need of rendering.

  • P2 card files from Panasonic 200 camera. Why do they require rendering?

    Hi!
I am doing a HD project shot in 1080 and after I successfully imported all the files from P2 card, they require rendering (which takes about 4 times the real time). Is this normal? I thought that no rendering is required, when you go from P2... Please help.
    Thanks,
    Tim

Thank you both... I tried that and it works!
But what if I have a mix of formats? I.e. some of the footage is in DVCPRO HD 720p60 and some of it is in DVCPRO HD 1080i60? Would I have to render all the files in one of the categories or there is a "workaround"?
Thank you once again. I already love this forum.

  • FCE log and transfer goes from avchd to prores which then requires rendering down to AIC -- what's with that??

Someone gave me a Sony camera (HDR-CX160) to try to get some footage out of...
Log and Transfer worked fine, but the resulting files in Capture Scratch are ProRes.  When I add them to the timeline, it requires rendering (Lengthy rendering), presumably to convert to AIC.
How can I get Log and Tranfer to go straight to AIC??

Do you have FCS or FCP-X installed on the same computer? Also, the HDR-CX160 is capable of shooting 60p which is not Log and Tansfer, or FCE compatible. You need to make sure the camera is recording 1080i60.
    Anyway, try this:
Open Log and Transfer, and click on the gear in the upper/center portion of the pane to select preferences:
When the preference open, navigate to AVCHD Plugin and choose Apple Intermediate Codec.
    Then try importing your files.

  • AVIs from AE need rendering in PPro

I'm an AE novice, so this is probably something simple.  When I use AVI files from AE compositions in Premiere Pro, they require rendering (have the red line above them even where there are not effects or transitions) while AVIs captured from my camera or generated by Premiere Pro's "Export Movie" do not.  A second render is a waste of resources and probably a loss of quality, so I'd like to get things configured so that PPro is happy with my AE-rendered AVIs the way they are.
My PPro project settings are DV NTSC, 29.97 fps, 720x480, pixel aspect ratio 0.9, display format 30fps drop-frame.  My AE project settings are Timecode Base: Auto, NTSC: Drop Frame.  I'm sure there is simply some setting that isn't matching, but I'm not sure what it would be.  A lot of the terms in the Render settings are unfamiliar to me, so I don't know which ones would affect this issue.  If it's relevent, the AE project I'm using was originally made in AE 6.0 and recently opened in CS4 and re-edited.  Both AVIs that were made in 6.0 and the new one I just made in CS4 do the same thing in PPro (whose version is CS3, if that makes any difference).

AE does not support multi-frame temporal compression as required by many compressed formats, so the quaality will often be terrible, and secondly you will not get access to the DV CoDec such as used by Premiere. You may choose Microsoft DV and others, but in essence you'll be back to square one as those will laso require to be rendered/ transcoded in Premiere's timeline.

Your workflow is one of the most used between the two apps, but it is
not automatic, you still have to match the 2 aformentionned points.
The impression I got from Mylenium's post was that even if I chose Microsoft DV as the codec, it will still require rendering, and also be lousy quality.  I know that there are many "lossless-only" purists out there, but I am satisfied with the normal type of DV compression even for two or three generations, even though it is technically lossy - my final format is MPEG2-DVD, which is much more compressed.  But if it didn't do any multi-frame comparison for its compression...  Anyway, Mylenium scared me away from even trying to change the output settings, as it sounded like it would not solve my problem at all.  But after reading Sébastien's post I decided to try it, and at least at first glance it appears to work fine - the footage goes on the PPro timeline without the red "I need to be rendered" bar, and at least on my screen the quality looks okay to me - I see no visible artifacts.  I don't know how to tell if it is doing any frame-to-frame comparison, or how much harm I might be doing to the quality of my final DVD data by doing it this way, but it sure works faster!
...don't be confused with lossy & lossless codecs.
Don't worry, I understand that - a simple example is JPG vs. TIFF, as both compress but TIFF is lossless.  But I don't know the subtle differences between different video codecs, and until yesterday I didn't know about the output settings in the render queue pane of AE.  (Since everything else I have worked with on this Windows machine has always used Microsoft DV as the codec for AVI's, I was lulled into the assumption that that would be the default in AE as well.)  If Mylenium is right that AE's output functionality for that codec is not as clever as that in PPro, perhaps this method will come back to bite me, but meanwhile, it looks like it will improve my workflow tremendously.  Perhaps if I re-render my current clips it might even reduce some of my memory problems in PPro - right now, about once an hour or so I get a complaint from PPro about limited memory (or runtime error messages) and have to reboot.  [In case you are tempted to ask, I have 2GB of RAM and have my paging file set to a fixed 8GB, but I'm still running out.  I don't have that much AE footage yet, but I will be adding more.]
If my current settings (Render Settings: "DV Settings", Output Settings: "Microsoft DV") are not really the same as the normal Microsoft DV that I use for everything else(even though they are accepted as native footage by PPro), please speak up again.  I won't delete the lossless versions of the clips (which are about 8 times the size of the DV ones) until I'm sure I won't regret changing my workflow.

  • How to change iMovie Project from iSight to DV-NTSC?

I noticed my iMovie project says it's an iSight project, meaning everything will be converted to motion-JPEG's on export in full quality. But my project has both DV and MJPEG clips and I prefer to export my DV clips untouched, not converted to MJPEG. If the project was in DV-NTSC mode, DV clips would be exported untouched. (The MJPEG would be converted to DV but I don't care about that.)
How do I change the project type from iSight to DV-NTSC?

Yes, there is always that option. However, I want to make sure that when I export a DV clip to a DV file, it will be exported untouched. If iMovie is in MJPEG mode, I'm afraid it might convert the DV clip to MJPEG and then back to DV.
It doesn't matter now since I've figured out how to switch between iSight and DV-NTSC modes. You can't do it in the application, but you can if you edit the iMovie project file itself. Towards the end of this file look for either ISIGHT or DV-NTSC. If it's not the one you want, replace it with ISIGHT, if DV-NTSC, or DV-NTSC, if ISIGHT.
Why is it important which project type you have? I've learned that video effects like transitions and fades are done in the default format iMovie has selected for your project. So if iMovie labeled your project as iSight (MJPEG), then all of your subsequent video effects will be rendered in MJPEG. If iMovie labeled your project as DV-NTSC, video effects are rendered in DV. This is important to know because effects rendered in a clip's original format are rendered much faster and may look better than if they weren't. So if you have a DV clip you wish to apply an effect to and the project is recognized as MJPEG, rendering the effect will likely be slow and the results may look bad.
This is just another annoying quirk that I've discovered during the course of editing a project. Seems like once I've figured out all the quirks of a particular version, another comes out with a new set of quirks.

  • New sequence requires rendering

I have video that I imported into FCE. Some of the video is 1920x1080 and other clips are 1440x1080. The audio is 16-bit integer. My output sequence is 32bit floating point integer. Is this the correct easy setup?
A project that has any 1920x1080 video requires rendering -does this mean I will not be able to keep this resolution?

I see. Thank you. I am making the transition from iMovie. I have owned a copy of FCE since 2.0 but have never really taken the time to learn it well. It is a steep learning curve... and with all the options, a person like me, that takes forever to make a decision I have a heck of a time getting anything done!
I guess after export then, I will need to use handbrake or something similar to encode for different platforms... like mobileme gallery / youtube? I will eventually burn to DVD as well once I get all my movie sequences done. I have a wedding sequence now though that I just finished that I would like to post.

  • HD Audio requires rendering...but it didn't always!

I'm working with XDCAM HD 1080i60 35vbs material. I've working on a quad tower as well as a dual processor macbookpro.
I've been using the trick where you create a sequence, drop all your individual
XDCAM clips into the sequence, change the audio settings on that sequence to mono and then map audio track 1 to output 1, audio track 2 to output 2, same for 3rd and 4th channels.
I then take the sequence icon, drag it into the viewer window, and now I can scan all my clips as if they were one long clip. I then overwrite the clips I want into the timeline.
A problem has arisen that I have not experience previously with the same source material and same machines.
When dropping the clips into the timeline, it now requires rendering. I'm running in UNLIMITED RT at the dynamic and/or lowest quality settings and have told audio to play back in low quality in user preferences, however it still wants me to render.
If I delete channels 3 and 4 from the timeline, I don't have to render, but once I add the third channel back, it wants to be rendered.
If I hadn't done this before on the same machines with the same quality footage without needing to render, I'd think it was a processor power problem, but I know it's not. The problem just started on both a tower and macbookpro where this trick worked fine on previous occassions.
    Any input would be appreciated.

So basically you are nesting the sequences into new sequences right?
But more to the point. I have some sound effects files that are five channels for surround sound and when I use them I have to render the sequence.
It sounds to me like a nested thing. or the fact that there are five channels. But I am not sure.

  • Multiple POu2019s were created from same requirement

Issue: multiple POu2019s were created from same requirement (i.e. requirement had quantity of 100.  60 was put on one PO and 40 was put on another PO), BBP_GET_STATUS_2 program returns an error
-Please let me know some tips/ pointers to investgate this issue.
-How to investgate this issue? I really appreciate a thought process to investigate,

    Hi Rick,
The splitting of a requirement into mulitple PO's will happen due to some criteria checks. Please see my note 1380879, where it states the following:
There are a number of criteria that are taken into account when creating
    the follow-on document:
    proc_org    Purchasing Org
    proc_group    Purchasing Group
    co_code     Company Code
    Pcins       Procurement card company
    Pcnum       Procurement card number
    ext_quote_id  External Quotation
    logsys_fi     Logical Financial System
ext_dem_logsys  Logical System from where an External Re-quirement Comes
    ext_dem_posid External Requirement Item Number
Subtype     Item Subtype (Extended, local scenario)
    guid_ven    Vendor Guid
    guid_prpven   Desired vendor Guid
    suppl_addr.   Ship to address fields
    Doc_type    Process Type
    Additional splits:
    Always split extended limit items
Always split if there is a missing vendor
Items grouped by hierarchies are split to separate PO s
The split criteria can be found within the code of Class
CL_BBP_SC_TRANSFER. From this class there are a method's depending on
    the follow-on document type:
    SPLIT_BACKEND_OBJECTS
    SPLIT_BACKEND_PO
    SPLIT_BID
    SPLIT_LOCAL_AND_BACKEND_ITEMS
    SPLIT_LOCAL_OBJECTS
    SPLIT_LOCAL_PO
    SPLIT_LOCAL_PO_DO
    SPLIT_PO_BE_MAP_CRITERIA
    SPLIT_PO_LOC_CHK_LIMIT
    SPLIT_PO_LOC_CMP_CRITERIA
    SPLIT_PO_LOC_MAP_CRITERIA
    SPLIT_REQUISITION
    SPLIT_RESERVATION
So if all of the above criteria are the same then one PO should have been created but if the above critieria is different in each item then the system will split the items into different PO's
    I hope this helps
    Kind Regards,
    Lisa

  • Mystery.  jpeg stills require rendering on FCP timeline??

I'm co-editing a film with a partner on the other side of the continent. We are using a lot of stills. I use GraphicConverter to re-size the 300dpi stills to 72dpi. (300dpi stills slow down FCP considerably, and take a lot longer to render.)
My 72dpi versions are working just fine. Do not require rendering on the timeline (the green line above) ... so I can set keyframes and plan movements, requiring rendering only when I'm satisfied.
My partner has done the same thing, with the same still in fact, in GraphicConverter ... but when he brings that 72dpi still into his FCP it requires rendering (red line) before he can even work with it. Ironically, the 300dpi original stills DON'T require rendering (but will, I'm sure, slow down his work to a virtual stall when he gets a number of those stills on the same timeline).
A mystery? Is there perhaps something we are missing in the FCP preferences, or the timeline settings? The timeline settings are set exactly the same on both systems (HDV 1080i60).
Any help would be most appreciated,
    Ben

I had a somewhat similar problem once and it turned out to be some bizzare naming scheme a PC used to name files sequentially.
Try taking picture A and making your GC version. Have him take picture A and make his GC version. Have him zip the image, email it to you and then you open both in GC and compare their specs. Off-hand I can't think of anything in FCP that would affect this but I'm not sure.
It could be something innocuous like a resource fork for a thumbnail or his are RGB and yours are CMYK or something.

    (1) Depending on what you want to do, you may be able to use your "Automator" application to make your scripts instead (Automator calls them "workflows".)
When you launch Automator, you can immediately select the "Photos & Images" as a starting point to see if it will meet your needs by selecting "my Computer's Camera" in the "Get content from:" choices bar there.
For more info on Automator, start with Mac 101: Automator and then launch Automator on your Mac and use its Automator > Help as needed.
    (2) If you really need to use AppleScript, you need to understand that you script applications (such as iChat), not devices (like iSight.) Therefore, first decide what you want to do with your iSight. Click -> here to see a list of some applications that can operate your iSight.
Once you have decided what you want to do, launch your Mac's AppleScript Script Editor.
Next, open Script Editor's Library window to see a list of Apple apps that are scriptable. Those that can control iSight include iChat, iMovie, and iPhoto. Double-click on one of the apps of interest to see the dictionary of functions that can be scripted in that application. Reviewing the library for any app will help you determine whether the functions you want to control can be scripted in that app. If not, you need to find another app that can control that function, develop an alternate process flow that can be scripted, or look for a way to accomplish your task other than with AppleScript.
Some third party apps may also be scriptable. See the documentation or support info for particulars directly from the developers of those apps.
More help is available from a variety of sources. For instance, you can check your Mac's Help on specific applications to see if they contain info on automating them. One specific example is iChat > Help, which gives a good start on your iChat study.
Unless you already know how to use AppleScript, you may also need to do some more general study or perhaps take advantage of the Apple training series book available from the Apple Store.

  • Audio requires rendering

I have a project that all of a sudden is requiring audio rendering for any audio that
    has any change to it.
It wasn't that way at one time but, some setting was changed that now requires rendering
for any change to audio wether its the audio which is part of the video or any music.
Audio is 16bit, 48 khz, etc.

Perhaps you inadvertently changed your sequence settings
You could always copy your sequence and paste it into a new sequence.

  • What format do I use for to edit with footage from Isight camera (Mpeg-4)

I've been having trouble with the rendering of clips in the timeline. I'm using 3 video tracks and all of them were recorded on my Isight camera, making all of them mpeg 4 files so when I first imported them, every time I changed one little thing on the timeline, it all had to be rendered again but it took forever. So I went to easy setup and changed the format a few times to see if any would work since I haven't had this problem before but this is the first time I'm using clips from my isight camera. Does anyone know what format to use or do I need to convert the files?
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

You need to convert the media into a format that's natively editable in FCE. You can use MPEG Streamclip to do that.

  • Recording from iSight to iMovie

I try to record from my iSight to my iMovie (6.03) but after a very short time the recording stops. How do I lengthen the time that the camera will record to iMovie?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, Maxandshe
    Consider the following:
    0) Your system info shows Mac OS X (10.3.x). Minimum system requirements for iMovie HD 6.0.3 include Mac OS X 10.3.9. Unless you are already using 10.3.9, repair permissions, download and apply the Mac OS X Combined Update 10.3.9, and repair permissions again after the restart that completes the update.
    1) More free disk space may help. Depending on the size of your hard drive, try to start with 20-40GB free when recording video, although you can get by with less. If you need more space, backup files you do not need while recording and delete them from your hard drive to make more space available.
    2) If you notice ANY other performance issues with your iBook, also consider the other suggestions relevant to your 10.3.x Mac from Mac OS X Maintenance.
    3) Make sure no apps other than iMovie are running while you are recording. if Mail is set to check automatically for new email, disable automatic checking while you are recording.
    4) Turn on LOTS of light. Good video quality requires more light than normal room lighting levels.
