Query on usermanaged  recovery

Hi
see some scenarios:
1)
day-1: I have done the backup of controlfile before that i don't have any backups.
day-5: I have done the backup of all datafiles in the database.
day-10:i lost all some of the datafile and all multiplexed control files.
In between day1 and day10 i have all the logs.
Is it possible to recover the database until last day?
2)

1. If you have backup of control files+all backup of datafiles+archived log files, then you can recover your database by opening database using control file and by adding archived redo log information and opening database
2. The same scenario. You have Control file, all datafiles, all archived redo log file. You can recover your database
3. Same scneario. You'll be able to recover the database
4. Same scneario. You'll be able to recover the database
And remember. If you have backup of control file and datafiles and there're difference between them on SCN number, but you have archived redo log files which have all transactions with related SCN number, you CAN recover your database applying all information of these archived redo log files.
And at the end, I suggest you to TEST all those steps by your own. Its very simple and it will take from your approximately one day. But during this one day, you'll get familiar with User Manager Recovery techniques

  • Query re. Recovery Disks and preinstalled software.

    I've had some problems with my notebook of late. I got this notebook at Christmas, and after getting over the initial setup problems (e.g. wireless not working properly due to Vista etc.), it had been working well. I tried making Recovery DVD's using the Lenovo software but it kept freezing/crashing. I never figured out why, and wasn't to bothered because I thought the recovery partition would be enough to restore my system.
    So my system crashed after a windows update - wouldn't boot into Vista and went straight to the resue and recovery programme on boot-up and got stuck at the splash screen. I got in touch with customer support, and after running some tests found out the hard drive was faulty. So after finally getting my new hard drive (thats a story for another day) and recovery disks I set about  setting everything up. I was surprised to find a lot of the software that came with the laptop not included in the recovery disk. There were trial versions of Office and Corel, there was  DVD and CD burning software and a couple of other things. I rang customer support. Thye told me the seller must have installed the extra software. So I rang the sellers (laptopsdirect.ie) - they said that customer support was "telling me lies". as they sold on their units direct from the manufacturer and only installed extra software at the buyers request (it wasn't requested). I don't know who to believe.  I did use some of the software, and prefered the burning software to the windows native one. I also feel like I've been had - after all its not my fault the hard drive was faulty.  I've now installed some extras like Firefox, Thunderbird, Rocketdock. Now, if I create my own set of recovery discs will these be identical to the ones Lenovo sent me, or will the reflect my personal settings. Also, are the contents of the recovery partition identical to the recovery DVDs, or is it contantly updated to reflect the changes I make to my system?
    3000 N200 0769-BRG, Dual CPU T2310 @ 1.46GHz 1.47GHz, 2.0 GB Ram, Vista Home Premium (Ubuntu 7.10 on spare Hard Drive.)

    Hi mozalini,
                       I have exactly the same laptop as you and after getting the recovery disks sent from lenovo noted the same software issues. If you look at disk 3 (and it's the same as the one they sent me, you will notice the title for it:
     Applications and drivers recovery disk for C200,C205,N100,N105 Type 0689,0768,8922,8923,8925.
    Which is not N200 0769 - the machine we have.
    I guess these are older recovery discs and they may have not made one specifically for the setup they shipped with ours even if the drivers and chipset software all work ok.
    Personally I took some consolation in the fact that they didn't charge me for mine (hopefully you too). Also you have some additional software which didn't ship with ours - Omnipass - which is pretty useful for password protected sites such as banks and the like.
    I have just installed xp pro as I didn't like Vista and using rescue and recovery (option to back up to dvd disc) you can make a full backup. Used 3 dvds for mine and I guess it will back up all your personal stuff too.
    Hope this helps
    Regards

  • Synchronizing Disaster Recovery site with the production server

    Hi All,
    One of the customer is asking the following query:
    "How Disaster recovery site can be synchronized with the production server and how do they switch? Will the web logic server do this for them?"
    This customer is having two sites one live and one a DR (Disaster Recovery) site on different location.
    Can somebody answer my query?
    Thanks in advance.,
    Regards.,
    Naveen

    Firstly
    Is your Datagaurd Physical( Redo Apply) or Logical( SQL apply)?
    Does it have Datagaurd Broker?
    When Datagaurd is setup in your environment - on the primary database( live database) the Datagaurd users LGWR or/and ARCH process to collect redo data and ship this data to standby ( DR site) and the FAL process to provide client-server mechanism for shipping archived logs to standby.
    On standby database, The Datagaurd users RFS process to receive redo records from primary database, the MRP process applies redo information to standby database.
    If the Data Gaurd Broker is enabled, Datagaurd also used DMON process to manage and monitor both primary and standby databases as a unified configuration.
    When there is any connectivity issue to the standby and when connection is re-established, the accumulated archive logs are automatically shipped and apploed to stanby, until stanby is resynchronized with the primary. This process does not require any administrative intervention.
    If there is a very large Archive Gap between the primary and secondary due to some major issue. Then the unshipped archive logs need to be shipped manually from primary to standby and needs to be applied in standby to sync up with primary. For some reason there will also arise rare issues like problem with not applying of archive logs though log shipping is success. So some work arround will solve it.
    Comming to planned /unplanned outages of production site.
    Datagaurd has Failover and Switchover( planned ) methods, These are not automatic, but have to be explicitly initiated by the administrator( So there will be downtime but minimal). Once initiated, Datagaurd automates the processes involved.

  • Unregistering a non-existing db

    hi,
    found two entries for the same database in the catalog
    SQL> select dbid, dbinc_key, name from rc_database where name='PROD1';
    DBID DBINC_KEY NAME
    3817268314 45902 PROD1

    thank you..

    1) Identify the database that you want to unregister. Run the following query from the recovery catalog using Server Manager or SQL*Plus (connected as the RMAN user):
    SQL> select * from rc_database;
        DB_KEY  DBINC_KEY       DBID NAME     RESETLOGS_CHANGE# RESETLOGS
             1          2 2498101982 TARGDB                   1 15-JAN-04
           105        106 2457750772 OIDDB                    1 14-DEC-03
           128        129 2351019032 OMSDB                    1 15-JAN-04
           301        302 2498937635 TARGDB              140831 25-JAN-042) Remove the backupsets that belong to the database that you want to unregister.
    Find the backupsets of the database that you want to unregister.
    list backupset of database;3) if possible, remove the backupsets that belongs only to the database you want to unregister.
    RMAN> allocate channel for delete type 'sbt_tape';4) Unregister the database by executing the following procedure from the recovery catalog:
    execute dbms_rcvcat.unregisterdatabase(db_key, db_id)
    SQL> execute dbms_rcvcat.unregisterdatabase(1, 2498101982)
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    SQL> execute dbms_rcvcat.unregisterdatabase(105, 2457750772)
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    SQL> execute dbms_rcvcat.unregisterdatabase(128, 2351019032)
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    SQL> execute dbms_rcvcat.unregisterdatabase(301, 2498937635)
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.Hope this will help...

  • Un register and register database again in the same catalog

    Dear All,
    I've a requirement to Un-register the existing database from the catalog by removing all its information, and immediately registering the same database in the same catalog.
    Please advice How to unregister and register again by retaining the backup files that are on tape.
    Immeidate reply is highly appreciated.

    Unregistering a Target Database from the Recovery Catalog
    RMAN can unregister a database as well as register it. Make sure this procedure is what you intend, because if you make a mistake, then must reregister the database. In this case, you lose any metadata that is older than the CONTROLFILE_RECORD_KEEP_TIME setting in the target database control file.
    To unregister a database:
       1. Start RMAN and connect to the target database. Note down the DBID value that is displayed when you use RMAN to connect to the target database. For example, enter:
    % rman TARGET / CATALOG rman/cat@catdb
    connected to target database: RDBMS (DBID=1237603294)
    connected to recovery catalog database
       2. List the copies and backup sets recorded in the repository (refer to "Listing RMAN Backups, Copies, and Database Incarnations"). For example, enter:
    LIST BACKUP SUMMARY;
    List of Backups
    ===============
    Key     TY LV S Device Type Completion Time #Pieces #Copies Tag
    19      B  A  A DISK        08-FEB-02       1       1       TAG20020208T155239
    20      B  F  A DISK        08-FEB-02       1       1       TAG20020208T155242
    21      B  A  A DISK        08-FEB-02       1       1       TAG20020208T155331
    22      B  A  A DISK        08-FEB-02       1       1       TAG20020208T155604
       3. Run DELETE statements to delete all existing physical backups (refer to "Deleting Backups and Copies"). For example:
    DELETE BACKUP DEVICE TYPE sbt;
    DELETE BACKUP DEVICE TYPE DISK;
          RMAN will list the backups that it intends to delete and prompt for confirmation before deleting them.
       4. Use SQL*Plus to connect to the recovery catalog database as the catalog owner, then execute the following query in the recovery catalog to find the correct row of the DB table, setting DB_ID equal to the value you obtained from step 1. For example, enter:
    % sqlplus rman/cat@catdb
    SQL> SELECT DB_KEY, DB_ID FROM DB WHERE DB_ID = 1237603294;
          This query should return exactly one row.
    DB_KEY     DB_ID
             1 1237603294
    1 row selected.
       5. While still connected to the recovery catalog, enter the following, where DB_KEY and DB_ID are the corresponding columns from the row you got from the query in step 4:
    SQL> EXECUTE dbms_rcvcat.unregisterdatabase(db_key, db_id)
          For example, enter:
    SQL> EXECUTE dbms_rcvcat.unregisterdatabase(1, 1237603294)Aron

  • MBAM 2.5 Unable to find compatible TPM despite TPM available and device encrypted

    We have just installed and are piloting MBAM 2.5. Everything seems to have gone fine, machines are checking in getting policies, encrypting as they are supposed to and we can query MBAM for recovery keys and TPM passwords to do recoveries as needed.
    The only issue we have is when we come to look at the compliance reports we see the following
    Enterprise Compliance report - Machines show 'Unable to find compatible TPM'
    In Computer Compliance report for one of these machines , Protector type is TPM+PIN, Protector state is ON, Encryption State is Encrypted yet compliance status is Non-Compliant.
    TPM is ON, Initialised and is v1.2
    Any suggestions as to why my machines status is non-compliant?

    I was having the same problem with some of my Dell Laptop clients and although the Hotfix did solve the problem, I thought it was worth mentioning the first time the client reported back to MABM after installing the hotfix, only the Compliance Status changed
    from "Non-Compliant" to "Compliant" and the Compliance Status Details still showed "Unable to find compatible TPM". It took one more reporting cycle for the Compliance Status Details  to show "No Error".  I
    would also like to mention there is no indication of anything wrong with these systems in terms of looking at them via the TPM.msc, MBAM Event Log or WMI Win32_Tpm class/properties. The systems encrypt the drive via MBAM normally...they just don't
    report back to the MABM database properly. The computers are running the latest BIOS and I have reset the TPM Security BIOS settings back to their Defaults several times with the same results. Thanks for the hotfix!!!

  • Query to identify the recovery catalog database name from target database

    Hi,
    How to get the recovery catalog database name from the registered target database?
    i dont know my recovery catalog database for my target database.
    I know we can use the query
    select * from rc_database;
    from recovery catalog database to know all the registered database with the recovery catalog but I want to know is there any way or query to identify the recovery catalog database name from target database to which the target database is registered
    With Regards
    Boobathi P

    You can check the backup scripts which you use to backup your target database to get the catalog database name.
    And check the corresponding connect string in TNSNAMES.ORA file or tnsping to get the server details of the catalog database.

  • Newbie Query regarding creation of Recovery disks and Backups

    Hello ppl/Admins,
    Some clarification required (my questions might seem dummy ...but i have no choice).
    I'm a newbie and just received my first laptop ever Lenovo 3000 N200 0769 (WinXP).
    My queries are:
    1) If i create a 'Complete Backup' under Lenovo care application will that include the entire hidden partition? Or do i need to  use some other software like Norton Ghost to  backup the entire image of the  hard drive?
    2)  Is there a way to only backup the hidden partition?
    3) I have noticed in other threads users refering to system and recovery disks, what/how are they used/created (i dont see any
        create recovery disk option under lenovo care button)? How does a recovery or system disk differ from a backup?
    My sole intention is to save/backup the hidden partition so that i could restore the laptop into its factory settings if things go wrong, so if anyone could help....it will be much appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Hi atomic, if you look under the lenovo program file you will see two different entries that relate to restore / recovery, I'm not at my machine now to directly tell you what is called, other than one is towards the top half and the other nearer the bottom.
    The one at the bottom has two options, the first is to create recovery media (I'm presuming this is for if rescue & recovery fails to boot up).
    Under this there is then a 2nd option that refers to creating a restore cd, of which it will only let you make s single copy under MS licencing.  I'm of the impression that if required and used, it will take a user back to factory restore settings i.e. original factory restore as it arrived.  This I'm presuming will image the partition as well.
    As for the other recovery option higher up the menu, this is for actuslly creating backups and restoring  system and/or files.

  • Backup n Recovery: Query

    Hi Experts,
    I'm regularly experimenting with restore and recovery in test database using RMAN Oracle 9i, I have a long list of incarnation. I wanted to know do we have any way of removing the records of incarnations or starting fresh again
    I have tried with unregistration, dropping the catalog, but i didn't work.
    One more question, recently i have restored database using until time. I have not used recover database or alter database open resetlogs. But it still working, show no signs of error.Why?
    Thanks in advance
    Shaan

  • Incomplete DB Recovery, Basic query

    One legacy database needs to be recovered. Version 8i,
    SVRMGR> shutdown abort
    SVRMGR> startup mount pfile='D:\oracle\admin\ORCL\pfile\initORCL.ora'
    SVRMGR> recover database until cancel
    I cannot enter CANCEL, it throws the following error and comes out to SVRMGR prompt.
    ORA-00283: recovery session cancelled due to errors
    ORA-00368: checksum error in redolog block
    ORA-00353: log corruption near block4993 change *110829381* time 02/11/10 02:06:35
    ORA-00334: archived log 'D:\ORACLE\ORADATA\ORCL\ARCHIVELOG_1\LOG0000442324.ARC'
    Now If I issue RESETLOGS, it says file 1 is in inconsistent state due to a failed media recovery session
    Should I do a fresh recovery with the following...
    recover database until time '2010-02-11:01:00:00';
    OR
    recover database until change *110829379*;
    thanks

    thanksYou can't recover the database because your archived redo logs has been corrupted

  • AD recovery Query

    Hi, I am planning for an AD upgrade from 2003 to 2012. The AD consists of single forest, single domain and 4 sites and 6 domain controllers. The functional level is Win 2003.
    My plan is to introduce one AD 2012 server as domain controller to the existing infra. So in the process of introducing the first 2012 DC , in case any issue happens or anything goes wrong , I would need to restore the AD to the previous level.
    So I would like to know the process of complete recovery back to Win 2003 in case of issue.

  • Satellite P10 - Recovery disc query

    Hi there , could anyone tell me this:
    Does the Product recovery CD rom for the P10 consists of a '1/2 and a 2/2 i.e. two disc plus the tools and Utilities cd rom or just a 2/2 disc?
    My product recovery disc 2/2 does not appear to run so not sure if there is a 1/2 disc as well or is the disc is faulty.

    I am 100% sure you need two discs and with disc 2/2 you xannot start recovery procedure.
    If you are missing the first disc you can install operating system using Microsoft installations CD. All necessary drivers, tools and utilities you can find and download from Toshiba support page under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads.
    It is important to choose option ARCHIVE in Product type option.
    Bye and good luck!

  • Query Updation recovery in Oracle

    Is there any way I can track changes made to the database timewise.
    I modified a column value from front end by mistake. It actually toggles the column value in the table from 'Y' to 'N' or vice versa upon clicking it. Im not sure how many times I toggled.
    I do see the value in the database with a modification timestamp which is captured in the same table with my userid.
    I want to revert back the particular column value with original data. Is the updation values done in oracle database stored somewhere timewise?
    Please let me know.

    Thanks for the reply!!!
    I tried DBLogminer in my test database by following the below url
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/oramag/oracle/05-jul/o45dba.html
    and Im able to see the past transactions...
    I believe as per help docs the moment I end the session the turning on DBLogminer goes off...
    What overhead it has on the database when turned on... Since we are kind of loading huge files from hard disk , is it a problem if we try to load very huge files...
    will it leave a trace somewhere else that this kind of activity heppenned....
    Please confirm...
    PS: In my case the actual Oracle Server is in some other box...Still can I do the Logminer activity from a remote connection !!!
