Question about volume level automation (GB newbie here)

I know how volume level automation works for the master track, i.e. in and out and such, but can you do this with a single track? basically one of the tracks in a song I've recorded has a bit of hiss at the end of it, which I would like to fade out. I've tried to cut that bit out completely, but it ruins the feel of that particular track, so I was wondering if there was a way to make that track fade out.

on the right end of the row of buttons just under the track name, there is a triangle. click it and the automation of the track will become visible. you can automate volume and pan using points on the line that runs throgh the timeline.
before you start playing with complex curves, make sure you've got the level of the loudest part set to where you want it using the slider - otherwise, you'll have to adjust each point on the automation curve to adjust overall volume... that's troublesome (if someone has a work around/key command i'd love to hear it!).

  • Question about VOLUME LEVELS for BURNING...

when i download music from the itunes store, the volume levels sound fine when i play them from itunes or the ipod. but when i burn the albums to CD, the volume is significantly LOWER than other audio CD's. the same is true when i burn them in mp3 format. does anyone know how to adjust the sound levels (turn them up) when i burn the albums, or is this a common problem with music downloaded through itunes? i don't encounter this when i copy directly from an audio CD and burn to another. someone HAS to know something about this. it's really frustrating. help me out, friends.
    Dell E1505   Windows XP

With all due respect, I have burned alot of CDs with soundcheck checked and the recipients of my 'mixes' all complained. I noticed it as well. Perhaps there is another place where user checks soundcheck...?
I know soundcheck can make playing disparate tracks in itunes level, but that does me no good for burning.
    Thanks for the reply.
PS: here are reviews I read re: ivolume. I have no idea whether or not they reflect the views of others, but they do exist (source: http://www.macupdate.com/reviews.php?id=12687&pid=142223). I hesitated considering ivolume because some of the problems seem to be linked with itunes 7, which I use.

  • Export All Tracks as Audio Files ? about volume levels.

    1. Do you export with each track at the volume level in the mix?
    2. Or do you set the CS volume faders at 0.0 to get the maximum signal?
The first option allows me to recreate a mix with the volume levels already set.
But the second option gives me audio files at original record levels so that I can create a different sounding mix, or use audio regions in another project, setting levels as needed.
    What's the better approach???

I just started exploring Export Tracks to Audio and had the misconception that whatever fader & pan positions were set in the mixer would be rendered in the export. Good to know that Bounce is the way to go if that's needed.
Just be sure to UN check the 'include volume and pan info' esp if someone else is gonna mix for you
On the other hand for archiving purposes including fx and pan and vol is a failsafe way of doing things
My question is really about two situations: The most important one is archiving/future proofing a project, and the other is how best to share a mix with a collaborator.
    Good information.

  • What about volume leveling :(

I've scrapped three CD so far.
How this option works? if it's work.... I will return to JukeBox soon...
I only want that all the tunes I burn on a CD are at the same volume. With Media JukeBox it was so simple and always right.
What's the problem with iTunes? Besides it can't burn continuous live CD.
    Who developed this scrap?
Oh, I know... a dumb Mac user?

It does'nt work to check "Use Sound Check" on the burning. Stop saying that to people...
That's funny, because it works for me. Volume levelling is what Sound Check does. That's the whole point.
I encoded an home-made CD in mp3. I checked the volume leveling in both Playing and burning menus. I burned another CD... and no volume leveling... it's the same as the original CD : some songs are to high, and some are too low, like the original CD.
In the "Get Info" window for the songs you're wanting to burn, look at the first tab. Does it have a number listed next to the "volume", like 3.4 dB or what have you?
If it does, then yes, it most definitely works.
If it doesn't, then iTunes has not scanned that song yet. Restarting iTunes usually does the trick to get it into scanning mode for me.
If the SoundCheck volume levelling doesn't satisfy you, well, sorry, there's no other way to do what you want using iTunes. I suggest using some other program to burn. Perhaps Nero or foobar 2000 with the ReplayGain volume adjustment mode will be more to your liking.

  • Javadoc question about top-level specification

    Quoting
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/javadoc/writingapispecs/index.html#top-level
    Top-Level Specification
The top-level specification is composed of those specifications that apply to the entire set of packages. It can include assumptions that underlie the other specifications, such as all objects are presumed to be thread-safe unless otherwise specified.
In addition to the class specific requirements, there are overall Java platform API documentation requirements with respect to handling unchecked exceptions (exceptions that derive from java.lang.RuntimeException). It would be helpful to develop some blanket statements that describe the general situations when a Java application should be prepared to encounter one or more RuntimeExceptions.
My question is how do you get an HTML file included in the Javadocs so they show at the top level where the packages are listed?
    Thanks
    Bill

Yes, that would seem to be apply, but I had some questions.
    1. This seems to suggest that overview.html will be added to the package-summary generated for each class. That is not what I want.
    2. I could not make it work. Here is the command I am using to build the javadocs.
    javadoc  -d docs -author -overview overview.html -doctitle "CkEntry / CkViewer Application and APIs" -sourcepath d:\workspace\ckviewer\src cprs.as400 cprs.ckentry cprs.ckviewer cprs.pc5250 cprs.roi cprs.util neva vistech.imageviewer vistech.jai.render vistech.util 1>jdocs_out1.txt 2>jdocs_out2.txtjavadoc has a problem with overview.html. This is the single line in jdocs_out2.txt:
javadoc: Error while reading file overview.htmlNot very informative. Overview.html is in the folder identified by -sourcepath
Thanks for looking at this. I appreciate the help.

  • Question about Custom Shape Files from newbie to PS

My husband bought me PS CS4 Extended. That said, I have never used PS at all. I have always used PSP. Please don't hate me!
I have figured out that one loads actions and presets. OK, got that. The question I have is if I can have my Custom Shapes and Actions on a completely different partition? I ask this because there is not enough room on the partition for me to continue adding shapes and such to PS in the program itself. I am figuring that I can since I have tio load them into the program anyway, but am asking to be sure so that I don't screw anything up.
Another question I have is if I am able to point PS to where all of my plugins are that I already have installed in PSP, which also happen to be on a different partition. In PSP all one has to do is to point the program to where they are and all is good and they can be used within said program. Does PS allow for this also? If not, do I have to re-install all of the plugins into the PS program itself? I just don't have that much room on the partition that my PS resides on because of all of the other pregrams that I have. Also, does everything I load into PS just stay loaded or do I have to reload each time I want to use that particular preset?
I do hope that ya'll can understand my questions and thank you for any help in advance.

the benefit of having the presets in the proper folders is that you can select them from the fly-out menus instead of having to search for them using the Load command so yes, you can have them wherever you want. I doubt though that you don't have enough disk space for them, for instance, all the actions that come with Photoshop take up about 200kb, the custom shapes are about 700kb but that's because they come in duplicates. And yes, all that you load up stays in Photoshop until you remove them, no need to reload them at program start. For plug-ins you have the option to set an additional plug-in folder by going to Edit->Preferences->Plug-ins, don't know about needing to install them though as i don't use any

  • A Question About Volume

I've been staying up late for a few weeks finishing up 8 songs that I've composed that I'm going to burn to CD's for Christmas gifts for the family (they'll be my captive audience...now, they'll HAVE to listen to my songs).
Presently, they sound fantastic. I've been listening to them through iTunes and they are ready. But, I'm wondering about the volume. I had set the master volume in GB at 0.0db and with Bose headphones and iTunes up as high as it goes, the songs really sound wonderful. There is no earsplitting nausea happening with the higher notes and the low sounds are deep without causing my inner organs to collapse. I'm loving it.
However, I'm clueless as to how to make sure the volume setting is correct for a CD. This sounds good to me, but is there a rule of thumb to follow for songs intended for a CD?
I've read about clipping Right now, there is no clipping at all. But, should I set the volume higher than 0.0db or leave it there?

So, in a nutshell, what you're telling me is that I'm taking TippyToes on the path to being a sound geek? That'll work for me.
I'm making a sound flow chart index card to stick on my desk. I truly do appreciate all of your patient advice. That little index card with be the first of my sound study. It's very confusing though. The necessary combination of Art with Science. I didn't know it would get that difficult. But, I definitely see how imperative it is to understand. I admire all those who do. It's an interesting science. Without it, the Art has to be hand carried to everywhere it is to go. With it, it can travel to the far reaches of outer space in a rocket ships CD player slot. Art can be destroyed by a bad application of the Science, and most importantly enhanced with a well thought out consideration of it. My geek thing is kicking in. It feels weird though. It's something entirely alien for me to look at scientically.
Ummagumma? I would not worthy to scrape the gum from under the seats after a concert.
While on the subject of sound, what do you think of my thunder roll before the timpani hits in "The Window"? You're "messing with it" advice inspired me to mess with the timpani to get a thunder without having to spend a night auditioning thunder .wav files. The timpani "thunder" is just what I wanted, but now I'm worrying if it's too loud via meters and such. It's loud, but I was able to turn the sound up as high as it goes in iTunes/my computer without it being so loud as to being damaging and I tested it on myself through headphones...which was dumb, because I don't think it's so wise for me to work ambiant/electronica/avant garde kind of music through headphones AND be a finger klutch with the keyboards. Ever try deleting/trashing a song in iTunes with the headphones on and the volume as high as it goes? It's not fun. If you don't know, don't try. Just believe. So, because I've made too many mistakes...like an AU I tried that was OMG...so bad, that I know that I had God and many sound Angels holding my eardrums in place to keep them from instantly bursting because it should have. That it didn't, gives me another chance to hear birds sing. But, to hear those little nuances of a note when a filter's been applied can be so subtle that it's difficult to distinguish a hum or a buzz on the track from the hum of the refrigerator, high tension wires or cicadas. So the headphones help isolate the sound to hear it purely as it is. Which, with Electronica/Ambiant music I am making myself, with all it's home made sounds and such and software instruments, which aside from my piano, is all I ever use can be risky on the hearing. Some of those AU's, when auditioning them on the fly with headphones and not knowing what to expect...like clicking on a preset and OMG! It's dangerously loud! I think, that what I need to do is audition ALL my presets one of these days...without the headphones...and delete any presets that is one click away from permanent deafness. I owe it to myself to be kind. I really love the freedom and creativity that Electronica/Ambiant music allows me...as a raw green amatuer...but I need to create an oasis of safety for myself. I never realized just how powerful these AU's are until having played around with some of them.
I've let my thoughts run away from me...too far. I still have a lot of other Christmas gifts to work on.
    I'll shut up now.

  • Basic question about a level 2 switch when adding an IPv4 Address

    Wow, you are all awesome!!!

I am studying for the Network Plus exam and I have a lab that is showing me how to run simple commands on a switch. In the lab, it has me go to the switch, enter enable mode, then configure the switch. It then has me enter an IP address and Subnet. What I would like to know is what is the IP address configured for? Is that the PC's IP address and Subnet? Sorry if the question is remedial, but I really would like to know what the switches IP and Subnet correspond to.

  • A question about search level

    In the parameter :"DEADLOCK_DETECTION".
It's explain include a substantive it's named :"search depth".
I can't find the explain about "search depth".                                                   Please help me.
    thanks

    Hi,
the search depth specifies how far the deadlock detection should search for the reason of the deadlock. A higher value would search deeper for the reason, but would also increase the time needed to search (and find).
We normally recommend <b>against</b> changing the default value of this parameter. Normally also share locks are used, where we can't really specify all tasks that hold sharelocks (as opposed to deadlocks consisting only of tasks holding only exclusive locks), but only the number of tasks in total. If the deadlock isn't found, the Request_Timeout comes into effect.
Does that help you understand this parameter?

  • Question about mac's from a newbie.

Ok so I'm new to macs and I can't seem to figure out how to uninstall applications.... It's evidently nothing like how you do it on windows xp... the OS I was using previously. Do you just delete them or what?

    Spore
Just delete the application, optionally removing the content of ~/Library/Preferences/Spore Preferences
and ~/Documents/My Spore Creations if desired, where ~ is the item in the Finder's sidebar with the house icon.
    World of Warcraft
Delete the application manually. Most Mac OS X applications don't have installers or uninstallers.

  • Question about setting track level

Hi I finally got my new macbook pro and moto 8 pre and have just today tried a bit of recording just to get used to it. I am at the moment using garage band. I have a question about track levels. In Garage Band when I select a track to record there is a slider for input level or an option of clicking the automatic level control. But for some reason they are both just that color of grey you get when something can not be selected on a computer. How do I activate this? It's strange as I did actually manage to record the track, I just can't seem to really adjust the level. I thought maybe it has to do with the motu and I can only select the track level there, and that garage band level setting are (rightfully) disabled? Maybe that's what I should be doing, but just a bit confused. Anyway, thanks in advance for whoever takes the time to help out a newbie.

Ah, ok. Good to know. Thanks for the info.

  • I locked my volume level, and forgot the code to unlock it, so how can i get my volume back to normal without a code??

About four years ago I set the volume lock on my ipod to half way up. To do that, you enter a four number code. I decided to change the code one day, and then ever since then i can not remember the code. I would like to remove my volume lock from half way, so that i can turn it up to max volume, but to do this it is asking for the old four number code, which i don't remember! So how can i take this volume lock off without knowing the code??? I tried to reset all settings, but that did not remove the volume lock. Please help me figure out how to achieve full volume level!
    Thanks.

  • Different volume levels on songs

    Hi
Just a question on volume levels. My songs all seem to have different volume levels. How do get to play the songs at the same volume level?
    Thanks

You could also right-click your song file or files that need to be louder, and then click on Get Info (right-click menu) then in that window click on the Options Tab, and there is a volume adjusting slider.
Its what I use to raise the volume on my videos.
    Hope I helped.

  • Newbie question - general question about e-mail sync

    Hi,
I have a general question about email sync and BlackBerry smartphones.  Are there any devices that allow email syncing with a Microsoft Exchange 2007 system that do not require the BlackBerry Enterprise server?
Thanks; sorry if this has been asked before but I was unable to find it in the forums, documentation, etc.  Everything I found assumes that for this kind of environment you will be using a BlackBerry Enterprise solution, but I can't assume.
    Thanks again.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
If the Exchange server has anything that faces the internet (OWA, POP, IMAP), then BIS can be used to handle email (only email...calendar and contacts require BES to sync OTA).
Or, a PC, inside the network (but with an internet path) and logged into the email server (using Outlook), can be left running, using the RIM Desktop Software's Desktop Redirector capability to forward  messages to the BB.
    Those are basically the options.
Hope that helps! Let us know!
