Question Indesign

Bonjour,

Bonjour.
Question en retour :
- sur quelles versions de Ps et iD travaillez-vous ?
- vos applications sont-elles synchronisées ?
(voir http://help.adobe.com/fr_FR/creativesuite/cs/using/WS37C6D4EA-9407-4954-9A03-92735E070188. html )
- vos psd sont ils enregistrés avec des profils ?
- si vous êtes sous cs6, vous pourrez travailler avec des profils niveau de gris dans iD.

  • Question: Indesign Crashes on export to epub

I have had trouble on more than one previous occasion when exporting a file to epub from cs6, when the Indesign crashes part way through the export process. I am now having this repeatedley with a file containg a large number of inline graphics. It keeps crashing. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this problem?

We improved our EPUB export in CC and continue to do so for the next CC update.
I would like to see if this still fails in CC so we could fix it - would you be willing to share your files with the EPUB team for our internal use only?
Even if it now works in CC we should be able to tell you why it is crashing in CS6.

  • Document Resizing question - InDesign CC

In previous versions of InDesign that I've used, if I had something centered on a 12" x 18" page (so centered at 6" x 9"), I could decide to change the document setup size to a different sized paper, for example 13" x 19".  When I would do that, it would basically add 1/2" to all 4 sides evenly and my art would remain centered with a new point of 6.5" x 9.5".  When I do this in InDesign CC, my artwork stays at the 6" x 9" and is no longer centered.  Is there a preference setting or something I can do to fix this and make it add or subtract my new page size evenly to keep my art centerd??
    I'm using a Mac, OS X 10.6.8.
    Thanks in advance!

A discussion like this had been posted before, and as I do research, I also found out that some Adobe InDesign users is already aware of this. A related topic for this one is here:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/5445588#5445588
    And other website:
    http://idsecrets.wpengine.com/resize-page-from-upper-left-corner.php
So, lets just hope that adobe include a fix for this since adobe is already working out an enhancement since InDesign CC is also sluggish compare to adobe InDesign CS6.

  • Real Noob Question: Indesign to MS Word

I have been trying to make a logo and document/letterhead for some forms etc and a friend suggested Indesign was the way to go and helped get me started.
I have previously created the forms etc that I need to use in MS Word.
What I want to do is to export the carefully crafted logo and header I have created in Indesign as a blank template for MS Word so that I can use this template to write letters, to add the forms and tables I have already created into it so that it will have my logo on the top of the page etc.
Is there any way to do this please?
I would need to both have this document available to send to ptinters [which I accept would be very easy as I could export as a pdf] but also to email colleagues so that they have forms which they can fill in the blanks [they will not have Indesign or Acrobat pro etc] and also so that I can write letters with this logo on top.
Is there any easy way I can achieve this please?
    Thanks

The very simplest method? Send them the PDF. Preprint the letterhead on a good color printer in batches of 5-50 or whatever. Then feed that stock to the printer just as you would offset-printed letterhead stock.
Getting a graphical layout into Word from ANY source is a real PITA. Word just does not handle graphics well. If you insist, I'd export the critical parts of the layout to JPEG and import and position those in a Word template.

  • Question: InDesign help with e-book creation

When I place my InDesign created book into the Kindle Previewer, I run into two problems: 1) Some of its paragraphs are doublespaced and some are single. However, they are all set at 14.4 pts apart. And 2) The hyperlinks that connect the Table of Contents to each chapter do not work (when they worked on InDesign). What's happening? How can I fix these problems?

If you're running Kindle Previewer (as opposed to the Kindle plug-in for InDesign), you would have to create an EPUB first. What did the EPUB file look like in Adobe Digital Editions?
Did you apply a paragraph style to the paragraphs which have the problem?
Did you make the TOC from InDesign's TOC feature? Do the links work in the EPUB file?
Do you have the latest version of Kindle Previewer?

  • Urgent Question:Indesign won't start up

the program indesign from CS5 Design premium has decided to just stop opening & running. I've re installed it 2x. It won't accept updates. this is ridiculous. Pay a lot for the programs so its not fun when they just stop working.

    Some of my suggestions
If you are using windows OS, you can try opening the application as "Run as Administrator".
while installing the Design premium, did you install the full pack or just InDesign. try installing full pack or vise versa.
check for the system requirement before installing the software.
login to your system as admin and try installing it again.
if anything did not work, try installing it in another computer. If it works then the issue could be in your OS. you can format and install the OS again.
last chance is contact Adobe support.
    hope it helps.

  • General question - InDesign or Illustrator?

    Hi all,
I am a total newbie to Adobe InDesign and Illustrator but I was advised that one or both would
    do what I want:
design and create a newspaper, about 35 to 50 pages.
    Which would you recommend?
I apologize if this is the incorreect forum - if so, please direct me to the
proper forum or resource where I can get this information.
    Thanks,
    Deosaran

InDesign is a layout program suitable for multiple page publications with some degree of structure. Illustrator is guess what? A vector illustration program best suited for single page advertisements and/or very sophisticated illustrations that could subsequently be placed into InDesign-based publications! There is significant overlap in functionality, but for design and creation of a newspaper, InDesign would be what I would recommend.

  • Question: Indesign and photoshop layers

Im just wondering if there are any functions in indesign where i can place a PS file with a link to a specific layer?
If possible i could use one one Ps file for all placed images in a file. I get the same size and it would be really easy to package.
    For example: Place; Layers.psd:"layername"
    Anyone with a tip?

You can show/hide that layer in a layered file using Image > Image Layer options... from the context menu after placing.

  • Accessible PDFs from InDesign CS3 and Acrobat Pro 8

Is there a good website or book that explains how to create an "accessible" PDF with text and images (no intaractivity or special fields to enter information)? Maybe a book for non-programmers.
I find a lot of general information and it always states that it's the best to do the tagging from the beginning in InDesign but what else does it ivolve? In what order should I do what?
    Thanks.

I'm doing one of the exercises provided by Adobe and have a question (InDesign CS3). I just learned that you can assign the "Artifact" tag to a graphic frame in two ways: Either via "New Attribute" in the Structure window (Articat/TRUE) or by right clicking and "Tag Element > Artifact").
The results are different though. The New-Attribute-way keeps the name "Figure" and adds a Bullet to it saying Artifact=TRUE, while the right-click-option changes it from Figure to Artifact and adds no Bullet.
Is there any difference for the person receiving the PDF and what is the better version (for what)? Thanks a lot!

  • Color management in Illustrator CS6 and InDesign CS 6-settings & workflow questions.

I've read the color management posts and the Adobe help file regarding the Pantone + libraries and the new differences between CS5 & 6. However I'm still a bit confused as to just what my settings should be, and a few posts offer different pieces of advice, so I'm looking for clarification. I don't need to work with legacy CS files, so I don't want to swap out the old Pantone libraries for the Plus ones. However I still have my old Pantone Solid, Coated and Uncoated swatchbooks and until I can afford the new Plus swatchbooks, I'll depend on those. I'm hoping the difference between Pantone 321U and Pantone+ 321 is not great.
If I'm preparing a file for print and to be placed into an InDesign CS6 document for print, I know both document color modes should be CMYK—got that. In Illustrator CS6, I'm assuming I would use a Pantone+ Uncoated swatch (remember I'm using the old Pantone Uncoated swatch book as a visual guide and praying that the difference isn't too noticeable.)
    1. In the Swatch settings pallette, should I set the Spot Color option to use the first choice—use LAB values specified by the book manufacturer, or use CMYK values from the manufacturer process books.
    2. In the View menu, should I select Overprint Preview to get a (more or less-I know the drill) closer monitor color to what will be printed.
I don't want to fool around with trying to set the CMYK values as listed in Pantone Color Bridge CMYK EC (found on Scribed here: http://www.scribd.com/doc/33104/Pantoner-Color-BridgeTm-Cmyk-Ec ), and I'm not even sure of the point in doing so or what it would do for me.
What I want is to depend on a swatch book, select the named swatch from the Pantone library, have all my settings set properly,  then place it in InDesign, then send the file to a digital printer and get as close an approximation to the swatch book selection as possible. I need monitor color settings to reflect the swatches as best possible.
When I can afford it, should I opt for the Pantone+ Coated and Uncoated swatchbooks, or the Color Bridge? I'm usure of the difference, and if there are any Illustrator or InDesign settings that would need to be changed depending.
As a corollary to this questions, once the settings are OK in Illustrator, what do they need to be in InDesign? There are settings for Ink Manager (all spots to process or use standard LAB values for spots, the Color palette has check options for LAB, CMYK, RGB.
I'm not  sure what needs to be set in InDesign to make sure colors are consistent between what is set in Illustrator and then what InDesign does.

Let me try to help you further:
    1. In Illustrator's Swatch settings pallette, should the Spot Color Mode option be set to use:
    a. CMYK
    b. LAB
    c. Book Color (not sure if this refers to the pantone swatchbook)
    - I would use "c" - Book Color.  This is the file going to the printer which will use Spot Color on press.  For a copy of the file to be output by your Canon, use "a" - CMYK.
    2. In the View menu should Overprint Preview be checked, and why, and would it differ based on the settings for #1.
    - Only if the color was transparent ( which it isn't ) would overprint preview be of any use or you use a tint value of the Spot color and a black, but even then you may not be able to detect any change in the screen view.  I typically do not use any overprint preview and I do not rely on the monitor for any color deisions.  You could be different and that is OK.  Let me know if you are able to detect any deviates using overprint preview.
I'm sorry for being a little short.  There is a lot of confusion about these issues and Adobe and Pantone are not making things any easier.
The key is your Canon will not be able to print accurate Spot color without a RIP for the necessary color tables and conversions for that particular printer.  In your case, it will be necessary to build a CMYK file to print a somewhat  approximate representation of that specific Spot color.  Another frustrating part of this matrix is CMYK cannot match all Pantone Spot Colors.

  • Book layout question due to lack of functionality in InDesign

I am a doctoral student (cancer cell biology) starting to write my dissertation (in Word 2007) and I'm using InDesign CS3 (5.0.4) for the layout (I refuse to layout figures and tables in Word... tried it... giant pain in the a$$).  My original plan was to create a Book in InDesign and have each chapter be a separate file.  Due to the bibliography software I need to use the Word file has to be a single file (see this thread for details).  InDesign cannot just Place a range of pages (it's seems to be all or nothing) and this creates a problem (see the previous thread).
The question I have, is it smart to break each chapter out into a separate file?  My thinking was that since I would be bringing in a fair number Photoshop and Illustrator files into each chapter it would be wise to keep the file size down (I'm not doing this on the best of computers, at least by graphic designer standards) and it would make rearranging a little easier (my mentor has a habit of changing his mind and chapter 3 could easily switch places with chapter 7).
This is my first book so any thoughts or advice you have would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Adrian.

Nah, it's just me.  My mentor wants paper output for the markup, the committee will take a PDF or paper and the university has (thankfully) instituted an electronic submission criteria.  The final product has to be a PDF to the school and I'll have some output to paper and bound for my mentor, my family (as a gift) and myself.
The two students before me did everything in Word and yeah you can make Word do it but I just don't hassle with it.  I make religious use of styles in Word (and only 4 styles at that... talked to a graphic designer who does books for a living "Keep the styles to minimum!!"... Done), so getting it into InDesign is cake.  Also, my mentor has a nasty of habit of constantly changing his mind and doing things like, "Can you move that picture about a centimeter to left, I just want a little space in there".  I have been through this with Word, it will do it but the voices in your head will start suggesting that you kill again (and nobody wants that).  I plan on doing my grants this way, manuscripts this way, everything.  Everybody (NIH, journals, other funding sources) requires a PDF now and some require rather optimized PDFs (people think I'm crazy but I swear there is a difference between the PDFs that InDesign outputs and the ones that my wife's Mac does--just using the built-in PDF renderer or some of the other PDF creators for Windows), so I just went ahead and went through a tutorial on VTC.com and then read a couple of books.  I wouldn't be able to layout a magazine but I can do grants, manuscripts, dissertations.

  • Photoshop images with spot channels in Indesign CS6 (layout question)

I've got an Indesign CS6 layout that will have a spot varnish when it goes to press. Right now I've got a layout with psd files that have spot channels in them that will be used for the spot varnish.
My question is, in Indesign when I'm laying this out should I have one layer with all the psd artwork (with no spot channels) and then a layer on top of that with the psd files with the psd layers turned off with the spot channel showing? I want to make this easy to print in the office so by doing it this way I could just turn the spot layer off and print.
Will this work for the printer?
layer 1 psd files with no spot channels
layer 2 psd files with photoshop layers turned off with the spot channel showing

Besides the obvious extra work of tracking 2 images, there would be potential problems if the images needs to be scaled and moved, and you would have to assume people downstream would know what's going on—should the layer be on or off?
I would double check with the current printer—they should know the only way to view a spot is via Sep or Output preview by turning CMYK off—magenta could just as easily be process as  spot.
Take a closer look at the Alias method. Here it is with your magenta defined SPOT VARNISH.
With SPOT VARNISH set as No Alias in Ink Manager and with Overprint turned on:
And with an additional spot color defined as white named CLEAR VARNISH. When you need to print in house alias SPOT VARNISH to CLEAR VARNISH and check Simulate Overprint in the Print dialog. You can get to Ink Manger via the Print>Output dialog or Swatches panel:
All you have to do is delete the CLEAR VARNISH before sending the job to the printer or exporting

  • New user working with InCopy CC, question re: Indesign 5.5 compatibility

    Hi all,
I'm asking a question on behalf of one of our editors who works off-site, who we have recently purchased an InCopy CC subscription for.
Our studio uses InDesign 5.5, and they've been attempting to share files with our Editor, so that she can make changes to them etc.
As the Editor is off-site, this makes giving support to her slightly difficult (and her IT/Tech knowledge is limited), but from what I can gather she is able to open the InDesign 5.5 files in her version of InCopy CC and she can 'zoom in' on these files once opened, but she's currently unable to use the text tool to edit the text.
This Editor is the only employee in the company with InCopy, so we're unable to take a look at it our end, and our own knowledge of that product is non-existent.
Do you know if the problem she's experiencing is based on compatibility between the two products (InDesign 5.5 and InCopy CC), or is it lack of product knowledge on her part (and ours, too)?
    Thanks in advance.
    Jeff.

You will need to upgrade to InDesign CC for this workflow to function
    properly.

  • Hi, I have a question related to how to tell Indesign to vary content in a multiple-page document.

I am working on a data merge project in Indesign. I have a basic letter that will have about 8 different versions. They only way the letter will differ is by one paragraph. Though I am merging contact information from excel. I am wondering if there is another way to tell Indesign what letters should get what paragraph. I am trying to avoid going through thousands of fields in Excel, to input the paragraph content for merging. Please help!

    Here you go.
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/dhxgyxsqpp8gcxq/8-variable-paragraphs.zip?dl=0
The Excel file has a couple notes in it. The ID file is CS6...if you need a prior version let me know.
Resist the urge to preview the file, it can break ID's merging. There are two different merge files. You can swap one for the other as the headers are the same. Any questions, I'll be poking around the internet for a bit longer tonight, else I'll check into the forum in the morning.

  • InDesign CS3 - Vanilla Install - Question Marks All Over My Content

Yes, I'm still using InDesign CS3 on my MacBook Pro from 5 years ago. CS3 has worked like a charm and I've never had a problem with any files until this morning.
I've got a 120 page book, each page with images and text boxes, none of which are threaded. I opened my file this morning and all my content boxes: images and text have question marks on the top left corner.
I have no plug-ins. The installation is straight out of the box with the occasional updates, which stopped quite awhile ago.
The error that pops up when I place the cursor in a text box is: "31-40-TasksAssemble-Instal.incx" cannot be located.  Another error is: "31-40 TasksDirectly supe-1.incx cannot be located. I have no idea what these mean and when I did a Google search there were only 3 returns and they were from what appeared to be software pirate sites. I can't find a reference to this on the Adobe forums either.
I've saved under a different name, different file type and replaced the preferences, all to no avail. I think the application is behaving as though I've "checked out" the content, but I don't share my files with anyone and the file itself isn't on a network - there is nowhere to check out to, and the commands to check in is grayed out so I can't reverse the behavior.
I'm stumped and I have a deadline! Can anyone help??
    thank you!

No one has worked on or had access to this file but me. I'm on a network but I'm a Mac in a PC world and no one would even know how to find my hd, let alone do anything on it.
I have to believe it is related to my moving my entire project folder to an external hd (not just the file as I mentioned before) as a means of backup. I don't know why it would matter or what it could have done unless there are files created in the Library that are somehow related/linked to the stories.
I'm still searching the Adobe Forums for something related but all ID/IC related discussions relate to people actually using IC!
I've unlinked all of my content from IC and now I'll have to see what happens.
    [POSTSCRIPT]
I've been editing my layout most of the day and so far so good.
The oddity of each box asking for a link to InCopy, which has never been used, happened only after I dragged my project folder to an external hard drive as a precautionary backup. All InDesign files in both original and backup folder suffered this problem. I didn't dare open any other ID files for fear of corrupting them so I can't say how widespread this problem would have been.
I do not know why making a copy of a folder would have created this problem and I can't find any discussion thread that talks about it, much less sheds any light on the subject.
After unlinking all of the boxes from their non-existent "host file" the boxes remained intact complete with images and formatting. I saved often!
