Question on audio and Captivate?

What best practices do you have for incorporating audio in Captivate and minimize file size.CP 3 converts MP# to Wav. Was that addressed in CP 4?

Hi there
Even though Captivate converts WAV to MP3 and Vice-Versa, only MP3 is actually used in the output created by Captivate.
Captivate 4 doesn't change this.
Although I'm admittedly guessing here, I suspect the WAV format must exist inside the CP file for the purposes of Audio Editing. It would be great if one of the Captivate development team were to pop in about now and either confirm or deny that suspicion!

  • Captivate 7 is not capturing system audio, and the software has a broken link

    The Problem:
Captivate 7 is not capturing system audio. When I start a screen recording, the line with "System Audio" and its checkbox are eternally grayed out. Next to the grayed out words is a link that says, "Why is this disabled?"
    The lnik goes to:  http://www.adobe.com/go/cpaudio
Which is not a valid link, so Adobe's site redirects me to blogs.adoble.com/captivate which is ZERO help. Both browsing and the search bar bring no answers.
    The Device:
Apple Macbook Air, Mid 2013, running OSX 10.9.2.
    What I've done already:
Obvsiously I have set Captivate 7's preferences to capture system audio, and have set System Settings -> Security and Privacy -> Privacy -> Accessibility to allow Captivate to control my computer.
I have also tried clicking the Mic icon, Selecting Source with the System Audio icon and that doesn't record system audio either. It acts like it is recording system audio, but when I stop recording I get a popup that says, "Cannot record system audio. Ensure that you are playing audio on your computer [Okay]"

    It's a wierd one.
One thing to try, and this fixes a lot of things, trash your preferences.

  • Adobe Captivate 7 Project How to make Rollover cations, audio, and video work in HTML format?

Adobe Captivate 7 Project How to make Rollover cations, audio, and video work in HTML format?

Honestly, I don't even know why this is an option. The conversion to Flash is completely unusable.
I have exported some things to Flash, and since I program in Flash all the time I was able to manipulate to work to some degree. Most text captions are built with multiple elements and completely fall apart.
Sorry, I can't be of more help.

  • I have questions about audio timing and volume levels

I have a question regarding editing the audio timing. There are a few section in my clip that the rythym is a split second off. What technique can I use to sync up the time by just a fraction of a second?
so far I've tried use the re-time editor which I thought was gonna work but after I re-timed the section, I couldn't drop it back into place without having the lower clip change and make things more confusing, but I had a feeling I was doing thing right for a second. Was I on the right track or is there another way of doing this?
    on another note...
I have some sections in my clip that are peaking in the red, but sound fine on my computer even at full volume. I hear no distortion at all. Does this pose as a problem, and should I re-adjust?
how to connect cuts in final cut pro

This is actually a somewhat complicated subject. There are actually several different kinds of sync issues. Two major "classes": 1) some audio seems to speed up or slow down over time compared to other audio, and 2) audio that just needs to be aligned in time.
One of the biggest culprits for sync issues is mixed bitrates. A typical FCPX project should default to an audio bitrate of 48kHz.  If you have 44.1kHz (or other bitrate) clips, mixed in, the first thing you should do is make sure all your audio clips are conformed to your project.
Select your clips and then select:
[Note: when retiming clips, even if only slightly, make sure Preserve Pitch is selected.]
If that doesn't work, or your audio is "live" recordings and you'd like to tighten up performers timing a little, you can manually sync audio tracks to each other. (You should have at least one audio "track" with the best timing to be your "beat track".)
The idea is to find the events you need sync'd in the audio waveforms; which means listening and seeing the pattern in the waveforms (turning on "scrubbing" helps); and you should find these indicators as close to the end of the clip as possible (you will need to zoom into the clips to see them clearly enough and you will need room to access the retiming slider on one of the clips... so... near the end is best.)
Zoom into the audio clip on the storyline so you can see the waveform clearly, but not so far as to lose detail in the "subsample" range -- to start (it's very difficult to distinguish specific peaks if you zoom in too far.)
With the audio clip selected and the playhead placed on the start of the "event" (bass beat, tom/snare hit, cymbal, etc.) type the M key to set a marker (markers on audio clips can be set on subsamples, so it will be "inside" a single video frame range.)
On corresponing clips that you want to sync with the "master" clip, do the same thing: select the clip, find the corresponding "event" start for that clip, move the playhead to the beginning of the event (you might have to zoom in [command- +] on the storyline one or two times more to improve the resolution), type M to set a marker.
You now have two markers you can align by retiming one (or more) of the clps to match the "master". Use the playhead and have it 'snap' to the master's marker.  When you retime the others, visually align their markers to the master's by using the playhead as a visual indicator for alignment.
This technique can be used with video and audio that has gone out of sync, by finding the visual indicators of a specific sound in the video, setting a marker to mark the start of that event, then finding the audio event and setting a marker. You will need to detach the audio from the video first if you're going to work on it in this way.
It's even easier to sync audio if there are no retiming issues (that is, you just need to align clips, not retime them.) Find the position markers as in the description above (anywhere in a clip since retiming is not necessary), turn on snapping, drag one of the clips until the markers snap... and you're done. You don't even need to use the playhead to have the markers snap to alignment with each other. Very convenient for adding foley/sound effects to video.

  • Adobe Captivate 6 Demonstration Mode - Splitting Audio and Video

Hi, I have just recorded a conference call using the software demonstration mode.  There was a little bit of discussion at the beginning that I wanted to edit out, so I opened edit audio and used the insert silence at the beginning.  This deleted the 10 seconds of the audio but not the video and now the recording is off.  How do I get these to match up?  I tried adding time to the beginning of the audio in the edit mode, but that did not help.  I apprecaite any help!

    Hi,
Have you recording the demonstration in -- Automatic--Demo mode in Cp?
If that is the case it would have captured screen based upon keystores and mouse clicks. You can check your film strip and manually delete the irrelevant slides.
Regarding the audio, you could have selected the piece of audio you wished to remove and "deleted" that.
    Thanks,

  • Audio and video skipping in published MP4 - in Captivate 7

I have a project that has a mix of imported Powerpoint slides and Captivate Recording slides.  When I publish this project to output as MP4, the resulting video shows the opening couple of slides, then skips a couple of slides and after that intermittently skips further slides... there are 51 slides in all.  The imported Powerpoint slides are the first slide in the project and the final two slides in the project... in between these are recorded slides.
I am of the opinion that the Powerpoint slides, for whatever reason, are the root of the problem, as I made a copy of this project, removed those three slides from it and the resulting MP4 output ran perfectly.
Has anyone encountered similar issues and if so, did you find the cause and solution?  Any help will be gratefully accepted

Did you have the PowerPoint file saved in pptx format?  If so, this would account for it.  Save the file in version 97-2003 of PowerPoint, and it will work.  We just encountered this issue.

  • Combined Audio and Video bitrate question

When combining audio and video, how does the bitrate of the audio affect the calculation of the total bitrate? If I set my video compression bitrate at 5.5/7.5, how should those numbers be altered if I have, say, two Dolby Digital 2.0 streams at 192kbs each and a 5.1 surround stream at 448kbs?

From the DVD Studio Pro User Manual (p. 43):
Beware of Setting Your Bit Rate Too High
You will find that with some DVD projects, the content easily fits on the disc, and you may be tempted to use the highest video bit rate available. While higher bit rates produce better quality, you must take into account other factors before deciding to use the maximum allowable value.
The maximum video bit rate allowed on SD-based DVDs is 9.8 Mbps, but rarely is that practical to use since DVD players support combined video, audio, and subtitle bit rates of up to 10.08 Mbps. For HD-based DVDs, the maximum video bit rate is 29.4 Mbps for HD assets and 15.0 Mbps for any SD assets used in an HD project, with an overall maximum bit rate of 30.24 Mbps.
In practice, you should be conservative when determining how high of a bit rate to allow for. Trying to squeeze out the highest possible bit rate for your project can lead to player compatibility and disc space issues. A general recommendation is to not exceed 9.2 Mbps for the combined video and audio bit rates when authoring SD projects, or 29 Mbps when authoring HD projects.
Important: If you are building your project and DVD Studio Pro detects that the bit rate of the multiplexed stream is too high, the build stops and an error message appears.
    Using PCM or AC-3 Audio
A single PCM audio stream using typical settings (as produced with the embedded AIFF encoder) requires 1.536 Mbps, which leaves an absolute maximum bit rate for the video in an SD project of around 8.54 Mbps. If there are two PCM audio streams, 3.07 Mbps must be allowed for the audio, leaving just 7.01 Mbps for the video.
Note: Even though you can only play one audio stream at a time, the bit rates of all audio streams must be added together when determining the overall bit rate for a track. Similarly, all subtitle streams must be added together and added to the overall bit rate.
Using AC-3 audio in place of the PCM audio leaves far more room for the video bit rate. Stereo AC-3 audio using typical settings requires only about 224 kbps—using two stereo AC-3 streams in place of the PCM audio leaves about 9.6 Mbps for the video.
See “Calculate the audio allowances” on page 636 for more information about allowances for other audio formats.
    Hope this helps
    Good luck!

  • CP8 Interactions and slides with audio and closed captions - not working well - please help

Okay, I am using cp8 on a windows 8 64 bit machine. I have placed an interaction on a slide. I also have audio on that slide and closed captions.
When I get to the slide, the audio does not play because the mere fact that the interaction is on there makes the slide pause upon enter. I could have the student click play on the playbar to go, but that is not required on slides without interactions, so I don't like that solution. I also could do an On Enter slide Play Audio and pick the wav file, but then the closed captions don't show up.
So, the question is, how do I have the slide automatically play the audio at the slide level without the student having to click the play button to go?? Slides with interactions should behave just like other slides with objects/widgets on them. This auto pausing thing is driving me nuts!
    Thanks,
      Lori

Lori, this is puzzling! Are you talking about one of the learning interactions included with Captivate? If yes, which one? My puzzlement is due to the fact that what you described is what happened in CP6: interaction paused slide at first frame (I had a workaround for audio). But since CP7 interactions do not pause any slide, you'll have to provide the pause yourself. There are some exceptions (games).

  • Manipulating reading texts to integrate quizzes, audio and definitions?

    Hi Everyone,
I'm looking into creating an E-learning element to my Online Language School and would like to know if Captivate 8 is the right tool: I have the following questions:
    1) Is it possible to manipulate reading texts so I can integrate drop down quizzes, audio and definitions directly within the text?
    2) Can projects be uploaded onto a website?
    3) Is it possible to tell users in real time their correct answers and mistakes via the use of a "check answer" or "submit" button?
Thank you so much in advance!
    All the best,
    Dan

First restriction: rollovers are not supported for HTML5 output, which means that 'hovering' can make a rollover caption (or slidelet) visible but it will be only for SWF-output. Clicking is possible for all output.
Second example: the best way there will be to have the click trigger navigation to a question slide (default type or a custom question slide) and it is possible, there is a hyperlink functionality for word(s) that can trigger that kind of navigation.

  • Flash and audio and text quality & Documentation/Manuals

Like a donut i posted in the wrong bit so here are the links
to my previous questions rather than duplicating them:
    Documentation
    / Manuals
    Flash
    and audio and text quality
    Apologies and thanks

There is no polite way to say this: You need training to
learn how to use Captivate to create learning objects for a LMS. It
doesn't need to be a "long" training period, but you are trying to
shortcut ALL training and begin at the end. I advise you learn to
use Captivate as a generator of learning objects (LO) for the LMS.
You seem to be thinking you can to use it as a "shell" for your
Flash output and it just isn't a Flash plug-in ... it is a
self-standing and sometimes complicated - but usually easy to learn
    - learning tool in its own right (by "easy to learn" I don't mean
    overnight, in any case).
Reasons why include the fact that Flash SWFs are vector based
while Captivate uses bitmapped graphics. Audio is handled entirely
differently on the two. Captivate's communication with the LMS is
not - I think - going to pass on scoring from the movie-in-a-movie
approach you are trying to use. And on and on.
Sorry I don't have more encouraging news for you. Good luck,
    michelle.

  • Help, basic question, no audio output?

I have a Mac Pro running latest version of Logic Pro. I'm not new to audio software (come from a Cakewalk background on the Windows platform), but I'm relatively new to Mac Pro and Logic Pro.
I seem unable to get any audio output from my setup when using a Logic Midi Track (i.e. GM Device Piano).
    My hardware:
    Mac Pro
M-Audio Axiom 25 Keyboard/controller (connected via USB to Mac Pro)
MOTU UltraLite (connected via FireWire to Mac Pro)
M-Audio ProjectMix I/O (connected via FireWire to Mac Pro)
I can bring up the Loop Browser and play loops and place loops in the Arrange view but I can't seem to use my USB/MIDI M-Audio Keyboard to generate any Audio via the Motu.
Also, I can see the Midi events in the Logic Transport Window.
If I load up garageband the M-Audio & Motu Ultralite work just fine, so I'm confused as to what I'm not doing right in Logic Pro? It must be something really basic I'm missing.
Sorry for such a basic lame question, but I'm stumped!
    Thanks, Rob.

well of course there is no official word on when an update to logic will arrive with a significant GUI overhaul. personally I hope that such a step is taken carefully.. this software is the backbone of many people's working life, so and big changes to the interface are hopefully being considered and integrated carefully.
I'd hope that a major overhaul to the logic UI won't just be cosmetic. there is a lot of legacy code left over from emagic days that do not make use of the latest OSX technology and so are not optimised. an example - look at how slow the screenset changes are. there is always a delay in response time to when you change a screenset, in some cases this can actually be slower than it was on older machines running OS9. as far as I can tell this is because it's all part of some custom graphics code in logic and doesn't make use of OSX quartz and probably not the graphics card effectively either. as a comparison, look at how incredibly responsive exposé is. it always seems to stay that responsive regardless of CPU load, so there has got to be a way to make the GUI features of logic perform just as snappily as the system ones.
same goes for the painful, annoying delay in mouse click response time, which is worse since OSX than it was under os9. a rewrite of logic's UI will hopefully sort this problem out too.
these things may seem like irrelevant nitpicks, but trust me, when you become a power user and you are cutting audio and throwing parts of your arrangement around like nobody's business, the sticky slow response of the GUI really penalises you.

  • Trying to record Stereo Mix with a monitor through my headphones.  Using Screenium to record Audio and Video, using Avid MBox Mini with MXL 909 Microphone for the audio through the interface.

Basically, what I am trying to do is this:
Record my screen through Screeenium, record my voice as audio through an Avid MBox Mini (interface) with a MXL 909 microphone to pick up the audio.  I have all that figured out.  I'm able to efficiently record my audio and screenplay through these instruments and programs.  What I am having trouble with is the stereo mix.  I am running into a slew of problems here... My goal: Add on the audio of a game that I am playing (for example, Amneisia) so that the audio for my game will be picked up internally, and not through the speakers to be recorded through the microphone.  I want there to be no external sound except me talking into my microphone.  I also want to be able to HEAR the audio of the game through my headphones (and if possible, myself as well, through a monitor maybe?)
Problems I have run into so far:
-Haven't gotten it to pick up in game audio at all while using headphone.  Can't figure this out
-Downloaded soundflower, have the output as soundflower.  Not picking up anything, will put all my sound and midi settings at the end.
-When I do record through my microphone, it is only picking up a single channel (left earpiece only, no right channel)
-I have figured out it is NOT the equipment, I use Pro Tools and am able to pick up both channels with my mic, recorded a few tests. It's settings and I can't      figure it out
-Trying not to run 16 million programs while running the game, will cause lag.
    Summed up:
    Trying to record:
-Audio from gameplay of any game I am playing through alternative route of speakers (do NOT want to record game audio through speakers, internally)
-Record voice through Avid MBox Mini and MXL 909 microphone.
    -Record screen gameplay through Screenium
I followed a guide that told me to achieve "stereo mix'' I need to download soundflower and follow "X" steps.  That is done and these are my current settings:
Audio Midi Setup - Stereo Mix custom Aggregate Device, Soundflower (2ch) selected, Avid Mbox Mini selected, Soundflower Output #1 has 2 channels (1-2), using Avid MBox mini for "Input" in order to record.  Using Soundflower AND Avid MBox mini as "Output" in order to hear the sounds and replay game sounds (could be the problem? Maybe?)
Sound Settings - Output Stereo Mix (custom channel)  Input Avid MBox Mini (recording)
I'm hoping this isn't too hard to understand.. I'm VERY bad at explaining information regarding computers.. It's hard becuase I don't understand it.  I can clarify anything that I am able to, so any help on finding certain things would be greatly appreciated.
My computer: Macbook Pro MAC OS X Lion (11G63) 10.7.5  2.4 GHz Intel Core i7 4GB 13333 MGz DDR3  (If any of this is imporant)

    Hey guys,
I tried to do some research and it looks like you need to have an external device and its drivers, such as an external microphone, installed on the computer to record audio that can be saved as a sound file. Another Suggestion is to try an auxiliary spliter for your headphones and external speakers?
What software are you using to record your game?
If anyone knows anything different, please let me know.

  • How to get audio and video in one file

hi...I am "premiere beginner user" and I have a simple question , I think..:)...Every time when I am trying to export media out from my premiere (using media encoder) I get video file and some audio files, but what I need is only ONE file, that contains both (audio and video)..for example , I have edited film in hd quality and I want it to export, I choose h.264 format(make some settings, pal, audio quality...) and when it´s "all done", only "result" I get is one video file and two audio files and they are not together :).....so please help mme anyone..ok and as you can see I am not from english speaking country, so sorry for my english...thanks for help....

There is no indication that something is out-of-sync or the ability to move/slip into sync like in FCE/FCP.
To the best of my knowledge, using match frame and overwriting the video with video+audio (or attaching it as a connected clip if you don't want to overwrite the video, which might have effects applied) is the best way to do this.
You can use the blade tool first in the timeline to get just the section you want to get back into sync. Make cuts so that you have a single clip that needs the audio resynced, select it, and use shift-F to select the original synced clip in the Event Browser. Make sure your play head is at the beginning of this video clip in the timeline. Press option-2, then 'q', and now you have the audio back in your timeline, synced with the video.  Delete the old, no-longer-synced audio and you should be set.

  • How do I bounce audio and midi tracks at the same time to burn a CD?

    Hi there,
I would like to bounce a song with both audio and midi tracks recorded in it onto a CD.
Despite ensuring that I am doing a realtime bounce (not offline) I am only getting the audio tracks burnt onto the CD - the midi isn't getting bounced to the final output.
This must be a stupid question, if someone would be so kind as to give me an obvious answer I would be most grateful.
    Thankin y'all
    amata

    Hi A,
if you use the instrument (with logic virtual synths) tracks for midi,
    it will.
BTW, why don't you do it offline?
It will be so much faster.
    Kindly regards,
    Jorge
