Quickfinder creating spaces in words

Hello.
I am testing Quickfinder as a search solution in our office and have noticed some odd behaviour. I am running Quickfinder on OES 2 SP3 and indexing Netware 6.5 volumes. Indexes are being created and stored on the OES server without any errors that I can see.
I have setup a few test documents to see how well it finds phrases. We have a mixture of pdf, docx, doc and wpd files.
When I search for one of my test phrases, it will not always be found. If I search for a specific word or other phrase in the same doument, it finds the document.
What I have noticed, is that in the description given for that doument on the results page, the earlier phrase (that was not found), is part of the description but has odd spacing in it. For example, the word testing showed as t est ing. If I search the index for that word with the odd spacing, it finds it.
Something else I have noticed is that if I re-index the folder, the word testing will again come up but with possibly different spacing.
Has anyone else seen this?
Thanks

Did you by chance try disabling User Account Control (UAC) on the system
to see if that helped? Maybe a real browser?
Good luck.

  • Trying to create a rotating word cloud

I'm trying to simulate one of the 3D word clouds you see popping up around the net these days. Here's an example (to the right in the header):
    http://tarasnovak.com/blog/2009/01/12/wordle-beautiful-and-compact-word-cloud-generator/
What I've done so far is create all the words and then move them back and forth in z space so that I have something looking like a typical word cloud. What I can't figure out is how to get the words to orbit around a central point as well as have the words always facing towards the camera as the cloud itself rotates. I want to animate certain words rotating to the front of the cloud, but have had no luck figuring this out.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,

  • Adding spaces between words

I currently have a navigation menu with 5 words, each of which are also a link. I want each of the words to be spaces about 30 pixels from one another. I don’t want to use a table to separate them.
I can copy “ ” seven times between each word in the html code to add 7 spaces between each them, thus achieving the desired result, but several online forums warn against this.
I read somewhere online about creating space objects to achive this spacing, but if possible, I’d like to do this using CSS. I tried creating a CSS style called “NavStyle” and then under the Box category, adding 30 pixels of left padding and 30 pixels of right padding to the style and then applying this style to the 5 words in the navigation menu, but this appears to have created padding only to the left of the first navigation word and to the right of the last navigation word, rather than to between the words. Adding 30 pixels to the left and right margins had the same effect.
Is there some other way in spacing this five words from one another in CSS that I am missing?

I have a similar problem. Though i am trying to space out some titles on my footer. The titles in two cases are made up of two words. So when i apply word spacing it spaces the title also

Creating a new layer changes its selection color. Look in the Layer's panel and double click the layer to change its color.

Not sure but, try changing the font.
You can also try the word spacing options in Justification from the flyout menu of the Paragraph panel

  • Documents Created In MS Word Can No Longer Be Opened in Pages

After three months from the date of purchase of a new computer with Mountain Lion, I am now unable to open documents originally created with MS Word that were on my old system.   For the first three months, when I clicked on Word documents, they opened in Pages.  I could edit those documents but had to save them as Pages documents.  Now I am unable to even open previously created Word documents.
Was there some sort of 90 day "conversion" period where all documents needed to be switched to a Pages format?

No, there was no time-limiting on that feature, it should still be there. It sounds like you're having a problem with Word files no longer being associated with Pages as the default. I'm guessing that dragging a Word file onto the Pages icon on your Dock would open it... is that correct? If so, select a Word file and choose File -> Get Info. In the Open With section, change the selection to Pages and click the Change All button. (Note that this is assuming that the Word files have the appropriate .doc or .docx extension.)

  • How to prevent public users from creating and saving Word Documents

I have two public computers available for the public to view legal case documents.  The program used uses the Word shell to save, view and print documents within the program.  The clerk has stated that she does not want attorneys or others to
be able to create and save word documents on these computers.  Is there a way to prevent a user on the public computers from opening word, creating a document and saving it?

Instead of installing Word on the public computer (or at least instead of making it available on the public account), you could install the free Word Viewer:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=4 and make that available for the public account. Alternatively, if you want to ensure the document retains its originally
formatting regardless of what printer may or may not be attached to the public computer, you could keep only PDF copies of the file where the public can access them and install the free Adobe Acrobat Reader for viewing:
    https://get.adobe.com/reader/.

iTunes match won't automatically remove content from your computer, if you want to do that you will need to do it manually yourself.

  • Problem selecting text in PDF created by MS Word for Mac 2011

I'm viewing PDFs in Adobe Digital Editions 4.0, and when I try to select text, the text that actually gets selected is 1-2 lines BELOW where the cursor (I-bar) is located.  This makes highlighting text extremely difficult.  This only seems to happen with PDFs that were created in MS Word for Mac 2011 and viewed in Adobe Digital Editions.
If I try opening the very same PDF file in Adobe Reader, the cursor highlights text just fine.  If I open it in Preview, it works fine too.  It just won't work when viewing the PDF in Adobe Digital Editions.
    System:  Mac OS 10.10 Yosemite
I have not been able to find any info on this issue anywhere, and if anyone knows a fix or workaround, I would greatly appreciate the help.

    DHodges wrote:
Thanks; this last reply came closest to 'solving' the issue. While I selected font sub, it at first had no affect on the document.
I then went back to prefs and set the compatability dropdown from 'Custom' (where it had defaulted) to 'Word 2004-2007', assuming these docs were created from a recent past Windows.
I 'Saved As' a Word for Mac " .docm "
Whoa... the extensions mean something. Your original problem (document shows bold, italic, underline, but tables and other complex formatting are lost) sounds as though the document was being exported as a .RTF, a Rich Text Format file. If you save as a .DOCM, that's a Word Macro Enabled Document. Regular Word 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2011 docs are .DOCX. Regular Word 97 through 2004 docs are .DOC. You need to save that document as a .DOCX or a .DOC or you're gonna have problems later.
    - and the documents appear normal (though I had to switch one to 'Portrait' as it for some reason wanted to display in landsacpe.
Normally you'd have to select page orientation.
So, poor testing on my part. I have no idea which of the above steps fixed it but I'm guessing the 'Save As' to my version of Word.
If so, it would appear the 'Compatability' feature was not working at least on these two documents.
Word's compatibility feature is supposed to ensure that a document you produce is compatible with the target version of Word. If you turn the compatibility stuff on then you will be warned if you are using Word 2007 through 2011 and you use a feature that earlier versions of Word do not have. Microsoft shipped a translator which works with Office 2003 and 2004 and which allows Word 2003 or 2004 to read Word 2007, 2008, 2010, or 2011 documents (.DOCX) and to save them as Word 97 through 2004 documents (.DOC) _as long as they don't have any incompatible features_. Word's compatibility features doesn't do much for .RTFs or for .DOCMs.

  • Dashed Table borders do not render correctly when PDF created from MS word 2013

I have a defined format for many documents which have all been created in MS word 2007.  Never any problem creating PDFs of  these using ADOBE XI Pro.
Updated to MS 2013 and now when converting the same doc to PDF all dashed borders around tables render as solid lines. The only time they render correctly is if I PRINT to PDF.  Printing to PDF is not an option as I create batches of many documents at one time, so would be to time consuming.  This was an issue when i considered upgrading 2007 to 2010 a couple of years ago, so caused me to delay upgrade.. upgrade is now required.
I have a sample of a document if required.
    thanks

Just as a test, have you tried the MS plugin for PDF creation? I have found with other versions of WORD and Acrobat that PDF Maker and the MS plugin can both fill in dots and dashes on vector graphics (basically what the border is) and yet it comes out correctly with printing to the Adobe PDF printer. Unfortunately I do not have a solution. In my case, it seemed to be related to the vector graphic itself (I could import it to InkScape or other vector graphic tool and save to EMF and it then worked fine. It may be something that MS themselves have messed up in OFFICE 2013. Good luck.

  • Acrobat Pro 9.1 no longer creates PDFs from Word 2007

I upgraded from Acrobat 7 to 9 specifically to gain more control over settings when making PDFs from Word 2007. This worked as I had hoped until the 9.1 vulnerability upgrade was installed. Now it will no longer create PDFs from Word 2007 documents at all.
From within Word 2007, when I click on "Create PDF" (whether in the Office menu or Acrobat toolbar) it asks for a file name, but after I click "Save" does nothing. This is true even for the simplest possible document, using the "Default" settings for PDF "Preferences."
If I right click the file name of the document in Windows Explorer, with Word 2007 closed, and click on "Convert to Adobe PDF" in the menu, it starts and the staus box comes up, but after a few seconds quits and displays "An unexpected error occurred. PDFMaker was unable produce the Adobe PDF."
I can still "Save As" PDF in Word 2007, but this gives me little control over the format.
Is there any way that I can get Acobat 9.1 to do what I bought it for, and what Adobe advertises it will do?

Try printing to the Adobe PDF printer, the more fundamental process (PDF Maker is a preprocessor for the printer). If that does not work, then try with print-to-file selected. Open the file in Distiller and see if the PDF is created. If the latter happens, then check for AcroTray running in the background. It is required to automate the process and is needed by PDF Maker.

  • Creating PDF in Word 2007 creates horizontal line

    Hello,
This is my first post in this forum. In general, I have not had problems creating PDFs from Word 2003, or from Word 2007 - from either .doc or .docx documents.
Yesterday, with one document, when I created a PDF, a centered horizontal line kept appearing near the top of the first 2 pages. These 2 pages
have no header content. This line is NOT in the Word document. The rest of the PDF appears normal - with its normal header content.
I think the problem is within Word 2007 (what a surprise!) because I can eliminate the problem by printing a .ps file of the Word doc and then
distilling it.  The only problems with that method are that (1) It's more time-consuming, and - more important -  (2) the bookmarks are not
automatically created. So, to create bookmarks manually takes even more time, and I don't know how to create the hyperlinks from the TOC
    (or even if that's possible).
Any idea what's going on?  I tried making PDFs of some other user
guides (same doc template), and they are fine.
    Many thanks!

    Hi again Raechel,
It's such fun dealing with Word and "Microsloth", isn't it?!  IMHO, they
should have left Office alone at the 2003 (or 2002?) versions.... Even at
2000, styles were easier to deal with!
Especially after using Madcap Flare for a few years, going back to Word is
especially torturous.  I go back and forth from one to the other,
depending on what I'm working on - product-wise or document-wise.
Your Word certainly may have gotten corrupted, but even if that's not the
case -- Word is still buggy as hell (forgive the minor expletive)!!
Glad you made your printing deadline!!

    Subject:
Creating PDF in Word 2007 creates horizontal line
    Melanie,
I read your post, and decided to spend my evening figuring out what was
going on.  You are right about it being related to the lines in the header
and footers, but as my document had no headers and footers, I found that
odd.  I tried to edit the styles without success.  Now isn't that odd,
    too?
I had to delete the header and footer styles from my document in order
    to
get rid of the lines.  I suspect my copy of Word became corrupted as I
    madly
edited several documents, all with photos.  As my adult son pointed out,
"well, they don't put their top programmers on Word, after all."  I
    checked
my memory utilization, and it appears that Word isn't cleaning up after
itself very well, so it loses track of some of its objects, and things get
    out of synch.
Well, in the end I managed to re-produce my document, which is good,
    because
it had to go to the printer last night before midnight, and it got there
    at
    11:40.
    Thanks for your help,
    Raechel

I have created an 100 page booklet in Pages, with many photographs, and much written word, can I export it to ePub, and make an electronic book, because it says that "Note: The Pages document must have been created using a word processing template"?....
Basically what I want to do is publish the document into both an eDocument, and a hard copy document. What is the best way to do this?

No Peter, this statement came right off the Apple ePub statement when outlining how to use ePub. the full context is:
    Creating ePub files with Pages
    Summary
Learn how to create ePub files with Pages.
    Products Affected
    Pages '09
ePub is an open ebook standard produced by the International Digital Publishing Forum. Pages ’09 lets you export your documents in ePub format for reading with iBooks on iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
iBooks supports both ePub and PDF file formats, and you can export both from Pages.
When to use ePub or PDF
Use ePub when text is the most important part of your document, for example when you create a book, a report, a paper, a thesis, or classroom reading material.
More details on using ePubUse PDF when layout is the most important part of your document, for example when you create a brochure, a flyer, or a manual with multiple illustrations.
    More details on using PDF
Creating an ePub Document to Read in iBooks
You can export any Pages word processing document to the ePub file format for reading in an ePub reader, such as the iBooks application on the iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch. Documents created in page layout templates can’t be exported to the ePub format.
Documents exported to ePub format will look different than their Pages counterparts. If you want to get the best document fidelity between the Pages and ePub formats, style your Pages document with paragraph styles and other formatting attributes allowed in an ePub file. A sample document is provided on the Apple Support site that features styles and guidelines to help you create a Pages document that’s optimized for export to the ePub file format, which you can use as a template or a guide. To learn more about using paragraph styles in Pages, see the topics under the heading “Working with Styles” in the Pages built-in help.
To read your ePub document in iBooks on your mobile device, you must transfer the ePub file that you create onto your device.
To use the “ePub Best Practices” sample documentTo learn more about using the ePub format and get a better feel for how a Pages document might appear as a book in iBooks, it’s a good idea to download the “ePub Best Practices” sample document. After reading the guidelines and instructions within the document, you can use it as a template to create your own document. You can also import the styles from the sample document into a new document you create.
Download the “ePub Best Practices” sample document at the following web address:
    http://images.apple.com/support/pages/docs/ePub_Best_Practices_EN.zip
Do either of the following:Use the sample document as a template.Import the paragraph styles from the sample document into a new or existing Pages document.
Export the document you create to ePub format to see how it looks in iBooks.
Preparing an existing Pages document for export to ePub format
Documents exported to the ePub format automatically appear with page breaks before every chapter. A table of contents is automatically generated, which allows readers to jump quickly to any chapter title, heading, or subheading in the book. In order to create a meaningful table of contents, it’s important to apply appropriate styles within your document. The ePub reader uses the paragraph styles to determine which items should appear in the table of contents for your book.
Note: The Pages document must have been created using a word processing template.

  • Can't create PDFs from Word due to Cambria font. Help.

I'm using win 7 32 bit office 2010 acrobat pro 9. I can't create pdfs from word because of problems with cambria. I've ttried all the fixes I can find but none worked. Any more ideas?
    [thread title updated by moderator]

How are you trying to create the PDF? With AA9 you have to print to the Adobe PDF printer or use the MS plugin.
When you say you cannot create PDFs because of Cambria, what error messages are you getting and copy them here? At this point we really do not know what you are having problems with or how you are trying to create PDFs.

  • How to open .doc files created with microsoft word 97... when using mac os x 10.7.4?

hi!  i'm using mac os x 10.7.4 and have Office 2011.  i can no longer open older documents (.doc) created with Microsoft Word 97...  What can i do to get access to these files?
    thanks in advance!

I had too many of these that I had to convert to a modern format. It isn't easy or consistent but one of these normally works:
    1. Open up Word and use the File/Open command rather than just double clicking on the file. Why does this sometimes work? I don't know! Save in docx format.
    2. Try opening the files in Office 2010 on a Windows machine. Again, immediately save as a docx file. This works more often than the advice above.
    3. Download the free LibreOffice and try opening it there. There will be some format problems but easily fixed. Once again, save in docx format.
    4. Breakdown and look for a dedicated format converter.
