QuickTime in Browser

In Firefox, when I play videos (say on Apple's website for trailers), the video will play, but the toolbar at the bottom (where you can pause, see the bar that shows where you are at in the video - blanking on the name for that at the moment) does not show up.
QuickTime does not work in work in IE. I am going to reinstall, but has anyone encountered this problem before?
Thanks.

(Sorry about the continued questions, but ...) How about if you touch the other settings in the compatibility tab for QuickTime?
With regard to iTunes I've seen reports of compatibility mode warning messages showing up when the other checkboxes are ticked in the compatibility tab on Windows 7 boxes. For example:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10578485&#10578485
Generally if the other boxes were ticked (in Vista and XP), you'd get warnings but the programs would still launch. (Except in those cases where they didn't launch, presumably in an attempt to keep us from becoming complacent.)

  • Getting a quicktime stream to open in quicktime, not browser

    Hi all,
    I am trying to stream some quicktime videos (.mov, H.264) from my website. For the standard res. version, it is fine to have it play in the browser, but I would like to have the HD versions open up in quicktime player automatically, like the HD trailers do on apple's website. How would I go about doing this (I have little experience streaming videos).

    The key is that you need a "poster movie" to embed into your web page. The poster movie can be anything that the QuickTime plug-in can display...a movie, a sound clip, or just a still image...even just a still image that looks like a PLAY button. The key is, it has to be a file that QuickTime can play, and you have to embed it into your web page.
    In the embed code, you need to include an additional parameter, the HREF parameter, which includes the URL for your streaming movie. Then you also need to include in the HREF parameter the TARGET directive, with the target identified as <quicktimeplayer>.
    So your embedded movie ought to look something like this:
    <OBJECT CLASSID="clsid:02BF25D5-8C17-4B23-BC80-D3488ABDDC6B"
    WIDTH="w%" HEIGHT="h%"
    CODEBASE="http://www.apple.com/qtactivex/qtplugin.cab"
    ID="movie1">
    <PARAM name="SRC" VALUE="poster.mov">
    <PARAM name="CONTROLLER" VALUE="false">
    <PARAM name="HREF" VALUE="<rtsp://my.streaming.url> T<quicktimeplayer>"
    <embed src="poster.mov"
    width="w%"
    height="h%"
    controller="false"
    name="movie1"
    href="<rtsp://my.streaming.url> T<quicktimeplayer>"
    pluginspage="http://www.apple.com/quicktime">
    </embed>
    </object>
    Of course, substitute your height and width for h% and w%, and your poster movie name and stream protocol and url where appropriate. And you really should use a Javascript method to write this code into your page so that it will work in Internet Explorer.
    The real key here is that no normal web link will fire off QuickTime Player. But if you embed a poster movie, then that movie will be displayed...and more important, a user's click will be interpreted by, not by the browser's rendering engine, but rather the QuickTime browser plug-in, which knows how to start QuickTime Player.

  • HT1338 OSX 10.4.11 update quicktime. Browser says out of date. Updater says up-to-date. Is this version no longer supported. How to update QuickTime and Java then?

    OSX 10.4.11 Updates to QuickTime and Java.
    Browser says out of date. Updater says up-to-date. Is this version no longer supported?
    How can I update QuickTime and Java then without upgarding? I wish to keep a back channel to OS9

    Mac OS X Tiger was discontinued years ago, and if Software Update doesn't detect any new update, it's because you are running the latest Java and QuickTime version for Tiger.
    Apart from that, I see that you have a G5, so the most recent Mac OS X version you can use is Mac OS X Leopard, another version that it's (or it's going to be) discontinued soon. PowerPC support is completely dead now, and if you want the most recent QuickTime and Java versions, you will need a Intel-based Mac with OS X Lion or Mountain Lion, that have got the latest Java 6 versions and they are compatible with Java 7

  • Quicktime with browser

    Well I go to the quicktime website with IE7 and I get an error that says something. When I go with Firefox2, the software crashes. Does anyone else have this problem? I wanna reinstall it, but I installed with quciktime and iTunes. How can I install Quciktime only? Any solutions without reinstalling Quciktime?

    Concurrency bugs (i.e. bugs in multi-threaded code) are a typical cause of non-deterministic behaviour since the manifestation of the bug is dependent upon the timing of context switches between threads and context switches are unpredictable with a pre-emptive threading model. I have observed behaviour that is strongly suggestive of a concurrency bug while using QuickTime 7.1.3 as a browser plugin on Mac OS X.
    Since concurrency bugs are inherently difficult to reproduce, it is easy for developers, or their managers, to deny the existence of such a bug. Just because they can't reproduce it easily doesn't mean that it doesn't exist!

  • Quicktime movie browser compatability???

    Whats the best way to assure video compatability for all web
    browers. I have a Quicktime movie in an html page and I want to
    make sure that most common browers will be able to play it. Is
    there special code for that???/ Thanks!

    > Whats the best way to assure video compatability for all
    web browers.
    It's not really a browser issue as much as a system issue.
    The best way is to provide multiple formats and let people
    choose.
    If you have to pick one formeat, FLV (Flash video) is
    probably the way to go
    provided you don't want people to be able to easily download
    it. You can
    download FLV files, but it's not as nice as just being able
    to click on a
    MOV or WMV file.
    My ideal set up with be to offer Flash Video in the browser
    with a link to
    an MPG file for those that want to download it.

  • Quicktime in Browser isn't showing up

    I've asked this problem before and no replied with a solution, only people with the same problem replied. Can someone with some experience help us out? this is the same post i had before
    So i just recently opened up safari and instead of advertisements or movies playing i get a quicktime logo with a question mark. I don't know if it's a codec i need, or something else. If its a codec could someone please be so kind as to tell me which one it is that i need? Running Quicktime pro here...

    Well after a little bit of trouble i figured out that in library (not your home library, the library that you see right when u open a window in finder) and then in internet plug-ins there's a plugin called QuickTime Plugin.plugin
    if you remove this plug-in (weird because there's another plug-in called QuickTime Plugin.webplugin which you would assume is problem for the WEB) from that folder your quicktime logos with the question marks will disappear and the flash stuff will work fine but when u watch a quicktime movie like a "Get a Mac" ad on apple a message will pop down saying
    Unable to load Plug-in
    The page “Apple - Get a Mac - Watch The TV Ads” attempted to load an Internet plug-in named “QuickTime Plug-In 7.3”, but the plug-in failed to load successfully.
    so... if u want to watch those videos you have to put it back in... u can keep that plugin on the desktop and go back to that folder when u want to... I'm not sure if maybe flip 4 mac has anything to do with this or what but if anyone finds out what it is please tell us, there are more people with the same problem. Until then i'll wait for Apple to come out with an update fixing this issue.
    thank you...

  • Quicktime movies don't show in browser

    Was having trouble with quicktime movies playing in Safari and Firefox. Each time I got the broken Q, I would restart the computer and it would work for a while. Upgraded to OS X(10.5) in hopes that might help. It didn't. No matter what I do no Quicktime in browser or a places like myspace. Any ideas?

  • Quicktime browser plug-in disable?

    I don't really know why, but for some reason, I can't keep Quicktime from running through my Mozilla browser and opening within the browser window within Firefox when I download a .mp3 file. This keeps happening even though my Firefox is set to automatically download and open mp3 files in Windows Media Player, and I my quicktime plug-in options has mp3 files deselected. It's quite frustrating; I don't like using the quicktime player, but I need it installed to run iTunes.
    All help appreciated, thank you.

    - Open QT
    - 'Edit'\'Preferences'\'QuickTime Preferences'\'Browser'\'MIME Settings'\
    - In the 'MIME Types' window, under 'MPEG-MPEG system, video, and audio files'.....
    - uncheck 'MPEG audio'

  • Quicktime Browser Plugin

    Rewording my post to be Apple Mod friendly...
    I accidently deleted my Quicktime 7 Browser Plugin and have no idea how to replace it.  When you try to reinstall Quicktime 7 it tells you Quicktime X is already installed and stops you from going any further.  2 years ago when Quicktime X was released it was stated that a plugin was on the way but low and behold... still no word.  So I need to know how to get the QT 7 Browser Plugin back on my computer, since a Quicktime X plugin is still unavailable 2 years later.
    Thanks for taking the time to read,
    Cheers

    Unfortunately that installer doesn't install the browser plugin.  I know where the plugin goes, if I could just find the file online that would work too... but haven't found anything.  Even tried going to Firefox's Plugin page but when you click the download link it redirects you to Apple's site for 7.6.9 which we know is not only the wrong version but incompatible with Snow Leopard's Quicktime X.
    I'd be nice if they actually provided a Quicktime X plugin, but I'll take a Quicktime 7 plugin at this point... just something to be able to quicktime media in my browser.  At this point I can't watch Apple trailers or do anything that requires Quicktime for decoding.

  • QuickTime just won't work

    I have uninstalled, reinstalled, deleted files, repaired files, re-set my settings to default, and configured them. Nothing I do seems to fix my problems with QuickTime. I use both Firefox and Internet Explorer for my browsers. On Fire fox every time I visit a site that had Quicktime, I get a message saying "failed to initialize quicktime error #0 Please make sure that apple quicktime is properly installed on this system" Then I get another message saying The plug-in performed an illegal operation. You are strongly advised to restart Firefox.
    On Internet Explorer, everytime I try to run a site with Quicktime, the browser just freezes making me have to shut it down. I've tried troubleshooting but when the directions says something about either seeing an icon, or a broken one, I see neither. I have Windows XP Professional and the latest updates for windows (I just checked) Please someone tell me, is there something I'm doing wrong or something I'm not doing at all?

    I had problem with Quicktime recently, which I found was due to my firewall blocking Quicktime access. I allowed this in my firewall settings and all was well.
    I hope this might help you.

  • Browser Audio a Mystery

    We're using Quicktime Pro 7.5.5 in Mac OS 10.4.11 on a G4 MDD 1.42 DP PPC.
    The audio-out unit is a USB DAC that is set as the "default" and "output" unit in both the systems audio preferences and the audiio MIDI utility.
    Everything is sending to the USB DAC unit, system alerts, .aif and .dv files on the desktop, everything except any of the internet browsers - Safari, Firefox, Opera.
    The audio from any of the net-browsers is still being sent to the G4 audio card.
    What is wrong here?
    Why is Quicktime sending browser audio to the G4 sound card when all settings and defaults have the USB DAC showing as selected?
    Thank you.

    ( update )
    The issue is -
    incoming mail alerts, mouse-click miscues, .dv files (Quicktime Player) on the desktop, .aiff files off firewire drives in their folders, Audio/Video applications -
    all audio is successfully being fed to the USB DAC stereo unit,
    EXCEPT the audio from any browser (Safari, Firefox, Opera), which is somehow "successfully" still routing to the tower's sound card.
    All possible preferences for audio output selections show the USB DAC (System Audio / Audio MIDI).
    Apple Technical says they "have no knowledge" and that the browser audio should be routing to the default audio device.
    We've re-installed, trashed preferences, run OnyX, repaired permissions and are fast coming to the conclusion that this non-hardware issue is exactly as it appears, a OS 10.4.11 browser audio issue.

  • QuickTime 7.7.1, Windows Vista, Internet Explorer, and .mpg files

    After updating QuickTime to 7.7.1, QuickTime runs whenever I click on a .mpg file in Internet Explorer, under Windows Vista.
    The last time this happened I had to go into QuickTime>Edit>Preferences>QuickTime Preferences>Browser>Mime Settings and uncheck the MIME association to .mpg files.
    This time with QuickTime 7.7.1, clicking on MIME Settings just opens up Windows Default Programs association window, not the Quicktime MIME associations.  .mpg is unchecked, and Windows Media Player is associated with .mpg.  All file types that are checked for QuickTime are grayed out, and cannot be unchecked.
    Any ideas?

    Solution found:
    After making sure Windows Media Player is the default player in Windows Default Programs for file types .mp3 and .mpg, open Internet Explorer, click on Tools>Internet Options>Programs>Set Programs>Set program access and computer defaults>Custom>Choose a default media player: Then click on Windows Media Player radio button.
    In Customs, you have to either click on the word Customs or click on the down arrows to the far right of Customs to expand the choices, and find "Choose a default media player:"
    You will also have to be logged in as Administrator or have the Admin password to reset this choice.

  • Quicktime stealing file associations yet again

    I just want to say how fed up I am of Quicktime. It has been stealing file associations for years now, and everytime it happens I have to find out how to get them back again to the way I want it - and yet again, the 'changes' seem to have no effect. What is WRONG with Apple? It seems they are belligerently determined to mess with my time and I really have had enough of it.
    OK, any help please:
    Quicktime version 7.6.9, Windows Vista.
    I would like to be able to click on a .wav extension or a .mp3 extension and have it open in windows mediaplayer, NOT in a hijacked Quicktime web page that prevents me from clicking through to anything else.
    I have tried the following:
    Edit\Preferences\Quicktime Preferences\Browser\Filetypes...Mime Settings - cannot uncheck associations with Quicktime! (way to be a *******, Apple!), the settings on wav and mp3 still showed Windows mediaplayer
    Checked also the 'default programs' application in Vista itself. all looks in order there too.
    Apple *****.

    Re Tracer -- did this work for you? I have the same problem, but when I disable the QuickTime add-ons in Internet Explorer (one of the numerous attempted "fixes" I've tried), the only result is a QuickTime window still opens, but will not play the movie clip. This has not restored my ability to use Windows Media Player to view mpeg files.
    I don't know if it makes a difference, but my OS is Windows 7, and I'm using the latest version of Internet Explorer (10, I think -- I'm not at my own computer)
    If you were able to fix this annoying problem, could you please post your solution (assuming it's not the one suggested by pmarangoni, which as indicated above, didn't work for me)

  • Downloading mp3s and getting only the exhortation to buy quicktime pro

    Hi there,
    I do IT support for distance ed. students at a university, and some of them who are PC users are having trouble downloading mp3 files of lectures. When they right-click, there is no option to 'save target as', only the invitation to purchase Quicktime Pro. It's my understanding that it SHOULDN'T be necessary to purchase this product in order to download these files. What can I suggest that they do to remedy this inability to download mp3s?
    Thanks in advance.
    kcparker

    This is the note I got back from my tester. Any other thoughts?
    That is not working for me. It is a little different path to get the location but I think I did what you were instructing.
    QuickTime
    Edit-Preferences-Quicktime preferences
    Browser Tab
    MIME Settings
    MP3-MPEG layer III movies and streams and put a check in the boxes, MP3 audio and MP3 playlist
    But it still only gives me the PRO save as source option.

  • Can't view Quicktime Movies on the web

    this is what im trying to view
    http://www.solent.ac.uk/360/hamwic_bedroom.html
    it worked a while back but not now, now i get the light blue logo with the question mark
    cant change file types in preferences they are not greyed out they dont even show as a list, it says programatically set
    i found qtp whatever it was in regedit changed everything to full control
    moved quicktime .xml file onto desktop from apple computer folder
    uninstalled and installed quicktime a few times
    tried with ie8 google chrome and cometbird
    no luck
    quicktime is terrible, i dont know why so many things on the web need it to play, they may as well ask notepad to open the files.
    cheers

    I'm having the exact same problem... Don't know when but IE and Firefox are refusing to play quicktime files. I can run the quicktime player and play MP3 and MOV files (which is what I normally do) but nothing is playing from the browser.
    I've tried pretty much everything I can think of... in the end, QuickTime is not showing up under Set Default Programs or Set Program Associations (via QuickTime Preferences->Browser->MIME Settings or File Types).
    I can install QT-Lite, and everything works for the browser... except now I don't have a standalone player that plays MP3 and MOV files because I cannot have QT-Lite installed alongside QuickTime.
    Please advise.
    Thanks,
    Jason
