Quiz Remediation

Hello Again,
While working within captivate 6 quizzing functionality I came across this helpful video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vw9wcgup4s8&feature=related
This video speaks to the ability to set a quiz question such that if you answer wrong it will send you to the slide that has the information you need on it then send you bank to the quiz question to try answering again.
I have looked at how he has done this and tried to copy his actions but I have yet to achieve the same results.
Is there an impornt piece of information he is missing or a property that needs to be set somewhere else?
Please help me make what he does in this video reality.
Thank you.

Hello,
I am trying to use the Remediation feature. However the remediation works only when there is an interactive object like click box etc. Instead of using any interactive object is it possible to use the next button that is there in the course to allow the learner to Return to Quiz when they have reviewed the content? We want to use the button to navigate the learner to the next slide when they first visit the slide.
As per the help for Captivate it is
For example, consider that you have a content slide that you want to use as a remedy slide for users who get a question wrong. When you change the action for the button on the content slide as Return To Quiz:
The button behaves like a 'next' button when the users visit the slide for the first time.
This behaviour helps you treat the slide like a regular content slide.
We want the same button to behave as Return to Quiz and and Go to Next Slide.
Thank you

  • Issue in Quiz Remediation

    Hello All,
I have been facing an issue with Quiz remediation.
I have developed a course with 30 slides dividing it into three sets.
After every set of slides I have inserted a set of 10 questions.
Now, as the user gets any question wrong i have directed it to a specific slide. From where the next button returns back to the incorrectly answered question on clicking next. (using advanced action "go to next slide + return to quiz").
After user successfully completes the first set of questions he/she can progress to the next set of slides which also have the remediation functionality for the second set of questions.
The problem comes in the first slide of the second set of slides. When I click next it takes me back to the last slide of the first set of questions.
I have tried using advanced actions and searched everywhere but could not find any such issue.
    Thanks in advance.
    Best Regards,
    Mirza

Captivate 6 includes a new feature called Return to Quiz.
You can set the On Last Attempt action on the Quiz slide to jump to your remediation slide (3).  You can place a button on that slide labelled as Next and set its action as Return to Quiz.  The first time the user passes through that remediation slide, the button action defaults to Continue.  But if you returned to that slide from a failed question slide, then on clicking the button again it would jump you back to the question slide you just failed, and the user would be given another attempt at the question.
I'm not personally in favour of this particular 'feature' because it basically means the user can loop around as many times as they want until they get the question correct.  In my view this isn't great instructional design.
But it might be good enough for what you want.

  • Captivate 6 issue with quiz remediation

    Hi,
    I have below scenario,
    slide 1
    slide 2
    slide 3
quiz slide: In the quiz slide if user enters correct answer it should take to the next slide, if user enters wrong answer should go back to Slide 3 to review the content. After review should be able to take quiz again.
    slide 4
    slide 5
Currently issue is when user enters wrong answer, he is redirected to slide 3 for review but when he comes back to quiz slide submit button is disabled. i tried several options like adding click interaction on slide 3 and including this as part of quiz scope. nothing worked. Please help me out to resolve this issue.

  • Remediation Workflow in Captivate 7

I'm trying to incorporate remediation in my quizzing using Adobe Captivate 7.  I've watched this tutorial, Remediation in Quizzing -AdobeCaptivate 6 - YouTube , as well as read through other posts and I haven't found my answer even though I think others have had similar issues.  I have 24 content slides and then 5 question slides that follow.  When I preview my entire project the first time, and I get to a slide that is eventually a remediation slide, I am not able to use the 'Next' button to advance to the next slide.  During the quiz, remediation works appropriately and takes me to my content slide.  I'm also able to hit 'Next' and return to the quiz question.
I have the 'Quiz Properties' - 'Actions' set as follows:
    On Success: Continue
    Attempts: 1
    Failure Levels: None
    Last Attempt: Jump to slide
    Slide: Slide 5
I have the 'Next' button 'Actions' set as follows:
    On Success: Return to Quiz
    Attempts: Infinite
    Allow Mouse Click
    Shortcut: Enter
Is this an issue with my settings or is there another issue or concern I'm not thinking of?  Please help.  Thank you!

OK, cannot log in to the forums (already problems whole day). But I see

And please, the bug patch to 7.0.1.237 was released in October last year,
    install it ASAP.

  • Remediation - 'Return to Quiz' button?

    Hi folks,
I've just watched an excellent Lynda.com course on Captivate 8 (Essential Training). However, one issue has confused me and this is on remediation.  I've used remediation in the past, and sometimes the slide movement become a bit 'sticky' and I don't really like to use the 'Next' navigation button for the 'Return to Quiz' action.
The course says that if you have a quiz question that returns to an earlier slide (i.e. via remediation) you can create a new button that states 'Return to Quiz' (i.e. in addition to any existing navigation buttons), make the action for this new button 'Return to Quiz' and this button will not appear in the normal flow of the course, but will appear if the slide is visited via the remediation route in the end quiz.
To quote Lynda.com 'This is a special action that's going to keep the button hidden unless they navigate to the slide straight from the quiz'.  However, when I have tried this, the new button appears in the normal flow of viewing the course?
I have watched this part of the course a number of times and it appears they are definitely saying that the new 'Return to Quiz' button should only appear when visited via the quiz.
Are they wrong?  Captivate 8 bug?
    Cheers,
    John

I didn't watch the CP8 course on Lynda, but I found the previous course of very low quality, totally different from what they normally offer for the 'big' Adobe applications. Just FYI I'm an almost daily user of Lynda. Again you prove here that there are quite a lot of 'bugs' in that course, half-explained or even wrongly explained work flows and bad practice tell me that the creator is certainly not an expert Captivate user. Sorry for that ranting but I have spent so many hours in trying to clarify work flows to Captivate users that took that course and got stuck very quickly when they tried to use the acquired knowledge.
Remediation is not hiding the button. You need a Next button and have to trigger the action 'Return to Quiz' with that button. When the content slide is visited from another content slide, the Next button will automatically execute the action 'Go to Next Slide', but when the slide is visited from a Question slide, the Next button will get the user back to the Question slide. Only when the question will be answered correctly, will he be able to continue with the Quiz.
Again, this is NOT a Captivate bug, this is a bug in your 'excellent' course.

  • Remediation Quiz Scoring?

I am using Captivate 6.  I have a project of 60 slides including 10 quiz question slides.  I am using Remediation.  When the quiz is launched, I want my users to review the information slide if they select the wrong answer and return to the quiz.
My "attempts" is set to 1.
My Last Attempt sends my users to specific slides if they guess incorrectly.
Each slide is set to "return to quiz"
The Rememdiation process works great.  I've tested all the quiz slides by choosing an incorrect answer then jumping to the review slide then returning to the quiz to select the correct answer.
However, at the Results slide at the end of the quiz states that I have FAILED the quiz.   I don't understand why this is possible?  Each time I 'return to the quiz' I select the 'correct' answer.  Why would I get a Failing grade?
Can someone please explain this to me?  And how I can resolve this issue?  I need my users to 'Pass" the quiz if they achieve a passing grade even if they had to use the 'remediation slides.'
    thanks!!!

Thanks for posting this. I had promised to explain the new functionalities in some articles, like I did in the past because of the lack of documentation by Adobe, but still didn't find the time and now have to transfer my blog to another host as well.
Indeed, I would never have suggested to increase the number of attempts at all, it should be possible to change the answer when getting back from the content slide even with only 1 attempt.
I will try to explain what I understand about 'Branch aware', a new feature as well. It makes the Quizzing system variables 'dynamic', instead of static. Normally when turned off, the maximum score, the number of question slides are fixed when the user takes the first question. If Branch aware is turned on, those values will be calculated dynamically from the question slides that are visited by the user. This means that if you provide a bunch questions for beginners, and another bunch for advanced users and the student chooses one of them, the maximum score and the number of questions that will appear on the score slide (and be used to calculate percentage and Pass/Fail status) are based only on that branch of questions.
Your experience now could be explained (have to double-check, please beware) as follows:
when the user comes back to a question slide, this is counted for a second time in the number of questions and its individual score is also added a second time to the maximum score
when the percentage is calculated (did you show it in the score slide?), since the total score is now more than normal, that percentage will be lower than expected
Pass/Fail status is checked based on that Percentage compared to the minimum percentage required, so this could explain the Fail status.
Something I really have to check out, and hopefully when my blog is transferred, try to tell other users about my exploring. I already did detect a lot of problems, and most (if not all) are solved in the latest patches/upgrades. Maybe this is another aspect that should be addressed, or at least get a warning dialog.
Here the links to the articles about question slides in previous versions:

PS Only now checked your screenshots, did reply to your last mail. NaN means not available... so this could mean that Captivate is confused and didn't know or got stuck on updating the system variables cpQuizInfoTotalQuizPoints and cpQuizInfoTotalQuestionsPerProject. Default status is Failed, and since CP cannot calculate the percentage, this will be reported as Failed.

  • Remediation with retake quiz glitch

I've run across a glitch when using remediation in a few quiz slides when also using the option to retake a quiz.
If you have a file with questions that use remediation and the user gets a failing grade, once they click the restart quiz button and answer a question with remediation incorrectly, the Return to Quiz button on the remedation content slide doesn't send the user back to the quiz. Instead the Return to Quiz button just sends the user to the following slide. The remediation works correctly the first time the user remediates prior to failing the quiz, but the remediation doesn't function properly when they're retrying it.
The link to the file below is to the Captivate 7.01 file
    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/23385824/RemediationFailure/RemediationGlitch.cptxhttp ://
If you don't have the recent 7.01 update you can view a published version of the file here, https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/23385824/RemediationFailure/RemediationGlitch.htm
The first time viewing the file answer the first question incorrectly so you can see that the remediation is functioning. Since Captivate's remediation doesn't allow you to fail a question using remediation, you'll have to select the correct answer in the first quiz slide in order to get to the next question. If you answer the second quiz slide incorrectly the quiz will fail and show the Retry Quiz button. After clicking the Retry Quiz button answer the first question incorrectly to be sent to the first slide for remediation so you can see that clicking on the Next > button will send you to the next slide instead of back to the quiz.
I've tested this out in Captivate 7 and 6 and the glitch exists in both versions.

I tried return to quiz, and it always sends me back to the missed question.  Is there a way using Return to Quiz that will bring the learner to the next question?  In other words, I want the missed score to stay, just want the learner to understand why they missed, then return to the next question.
    Thank you.

  • Is there a way to restrict the number of attempts for a remediated question using advanced actions?

I have the following slides in my project:
    content slide 1
    content slide 2
    question slide 1
    question slide 2
Question slide 1 is a question about content slide 1. Question slide 2 is a question about content slide 2. I would like to restrict the total number of attempts to two for each question. If question 1 is answered incorrectly on the first attempt, the learner would be returned to content slide 1 for review. Clicking the next button will take the learner back to the missed quiz question and allow them a second attempt to answer it correctly. If they answer it incorrectly again, it is scored as incorrect and the learner is taken to question slide 2.
Can this be done or does remediation keep repeating until the learner answers the question correctly?
If that is the case, can I achieve my objective by using advanced actions? And, if so, can you provide step by step instructions on how to do this?

I think it could be possible, but giving you step-by-step instructions, sorry, that would take a lot of time. Did you use advanced actions already? My archived blog has a lot of use cases and tutorials, but I think it is not fair to ask on a forum for step-by-step instructions for each use case you want to create.  The most important thing will be to make sure that the user always remains in the Quiz scope, you can use the new system variable cpInQuizScope while testing. There is no system variable for attempts on question level, only one on Quiz level, so you'll have to create a user variable to track the attempts on question level. A big problem is that when you leave a question slide, without using the remediation work flow, the attempts are considered as finished. Personally I would prefer for that reason to not use the default question slides. You could try out a combination of remediation and advanced actions, never did test that?

  • Remediation enquiry

I am currently using Captivate 6 and am having issues with remediation and quiz movements.  Currently I would like to have the following set up:
    slide 1
    slide 2
    slide 3
    question slide
    - if correct move on to next slide
    - if incorrect move to slide 2 for review - then when next is clicked move to question slide to re-answer
Currently, I have this set up however, the next button on slide 2 never goes to slide 3.  If I skip ahead it all works perfectly.  If the answer is incorrect it jumps to slide 2 for review and then when next is clicked it goes back to the question slide and continues.
How can I get the button to work initially.  I have gone back to slide 2 and chosen return to quiz as I had viewed on the demo video that it should retain its natural continue state as well.  Am I missing a setting somewhere?  I have ticked branch aware (not sure if this has anything to do with it, but just in case) both on and off.  As this is a new product for me and there are virtually no tutorials (one on adobe Youtube channel only) out there I am at a loss.  Any help would be appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Darren

One quirk I have noticed with remediation as well, at least in Captivate 8.
    Slide 1
    Slide 2
    Slide 3
    Question 1
    Question 2
    Quiz Results slide
Question 2 - failure set to Jump to Slide 2
Slide 2 has a shape button set to Return to Quiz
Slide 2 also has some stuff animating in.  The button appears for the entire slide, the button pause happens (quite a while) after all other elements have animated in.
In this scenario, when you're going through the presentation for the first time and click on the button on slide 2, it doesn't forward to slide 3 until the playhead gets to the pause.  And then it just 'continues' down the timeline, so you have to wait like another second.
So if you don't want to sit through all the time it takes for things to animate in and try to click the button, it looks like the button is non-responsive because really, but you're really just waiting for the playhead to move down the timeline.
This is not consistent with how it works on a 'normal' slide (meaning, one that doesn't have a button action or a slide OnExit set to Return to Quiz).  On a normal slide, you can click a button before the playhead has hit the pause and you'll advance to the next slide (or whatever you've set your action to be).
Conclusion: keep your button pause as close to the beginning of the timeline as you can.  Which also means try to keep animations/fade ins etc super short on a slide with a button set to 'Return to Quiz'.
    Hope that makes sense.

  • How to use remediation using Pretest questions?

Remediation using Quiz questions works fine for me, but.... now I am trying to use Pretest questions in combination with remediation.
This has to be on a "per pretest question" base, so NOT at the end of a complete pretest!

Tweak means that the score of the pretest slides will not be added tot the
total score, that you'll have to calculate the score of the pretest by
actions. Most system quizzing variables for the final quiz will be correct,
with some exceptions like the total number of questions.
With custom questions, no need to use the quizzing system vars, user
variables can do the trick. But it is more work to create custom questions
with standard objects, widgets and actions.

  • Remediation Workflow - 2 Total Attempts per Question Scenario

I'm trying to accomplish the following with all of my quiz slides - I want the user to have only 2 attempts to answer the question correctly before 'failing' the question and having to move to the next one. This is the expected outcome:
User answers question #1 incorrectly. They receive a failure message saying the answer is not correct and they will be returned to review the content before being given a second chance to answer the question. They are returned to the designated slide to review content and then returned to question #1 to try one more time. If user answers correctly, they receive a success message and move to next question. If they answer incorrectly again the Incorrect popup should appear saying you did not answer correctly, question is marked wrong and they advance to the question #2.
So far, I've had no luck with making this happen as remediation exists out of the box - I assume because the 'Action' at the failure level is specific to the Last Attempt, so even if I say I want the user to have two tries it is only performing the 'jump to slide' action after the second attempt.
Based on the following settings, below is the outcome I am experiencing:
User answers question #1 incorrectly. They immediatly get to try to answer again. If incorrect second time it goes back to review content then when it comes back to the question user is allowed two tries to answer correctly before they are returned to review the content lide again - it's basically putting them into an infinite loop from the question to 'Jump to slide' and back to the question until they get the question correct. Even if I set the 'Attempt' value to 1 under the Quiz Properties Action it still loops over and over until the question is answered correctly. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?
Also, I assume remediation does not work when using 'Partially Correct' as an option, since then a question with multiple answers where only one is selected by the user would technically not be 'incorrect' and it just moves forward to the next slide. Thoughts?

Thanks for your reply!!  We have a mix of questions, many are multiple choice with more than one answer, but some are sequence or multiple choice with one correct answer. No matter how I change any of the question types, remediation puts me into a loop until I answer the question correctly. Even if I change Action to 1 attempt and 1 failure level with the Last Attempt Action set to Jump to Slide, once I return to quiz I have to answer correctly before I can move forward. (See below).
What do you mean when you say 'Advanced Answer' action? Is that what I have done below by putting Jump to Slide in Last Attempt, or is there something I'm missing about how to apply the remediation workflow to slides?

  • Remediation and Previous Content Slides

The way our team sets up our tutorials is that we disperse quiz slides throughout and set the quiz to jump to a slide if the question is missed.  Then when the content slide is viewed, the learner is taken back to the quiz.  Our remediation works....the issue we have is if we enable navigation for visited slides only, and some goes back and comes back to a quiz question, they get "stuck" on the quiz.  Is there a way to avoid this?

    Hi
After some investigation I think I understood how to use the clear cache options in column links. What was confusing me is that I am using a "URL" as target in my link and not a "page in the application".
When you use a URL as target you do not have the option to clear the cache as you have when using a page. BTW my target URL is a javascript: code to open a popup window.
How to clear the cache of a specific page in this scenario? This would help me.
    Thanks

  • Remediation functionality....

    Hi,
I am using SUN 7.1 version and i need help to get the details about remediation functionality. What we are doing:
    1) From end user page we are login with user id and clicking on remediation tab then we are able to find the request list and if we click on any one of request hiper link then one page is displaying like "Request Remediation" and there are four buttons like "remediate", "Forward", "EditUser", "Cancel". But when we are clicking on Edit User Button then there is no action generating on that.
I need assistance to get the details to know that how to execute the Update User WF when clcik on Edit Use Button or How to use this Button Functionality.
    Rajiv...

Sure, to sum it up first, the basic mechanic is that each slide asks the captivate project whether or not it's been answered correctly.  If it has already been answered correclty it's skipped.  At the end of the quiz it goes back to the start.
    In a little more detail:
Slide 1 - I set a variable at the root level as an array that is the length of the number of questions I have in the slide.  I then set all of the cells in the array to 0.
Question Slides - At each question I check whether or not its corrosponding array cell has a 1 or a 0 in it.  If it's a 0 I continue with the question.  If it's a 1 I skip to the next slide (this necessitates a slide transition of some kind otherwise you see a single frame of the question that you're skipping
After the Quiz - I have a slide that compares the total value of the array cells added up against the length of the array.  If the array value is the same as the length then all questions have been answered correctly.  If not it returns to the beginning of the quiz.  Rinse, repeat.

  • Remediation redirection buttons showing

    Hi,
I am using Captivate 7 for a lesson.  I am attempting to insert remediation tools in my quiz.  My understanding is that the button I insert on a slide that is connected a wrong answer,  should only show if it is accessed from the quiz question.  Therefore, when the learner is viewing the lesson initially the button (which in this case is a continue button) cannot be viewed, but if they take the quiz and get the answer wrong clicking the quiz slide will take them to the slide that gives that shows the correct answer.  I cannot keep the button from being seen initially.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Your information is not correct, if I understand well your explanation. The Next button that is on the Content slide to which the user will be sent for remediation has a double functionality:
If not coming from a quiz slide, it acts as a normal Next button, although the action triggered is 'Return to Quiz'
If coming from a quiz slide to this content slide, it will return the user to the quiz slide.
