What should I do?
The message says "contact Oracle support." Why didn't you?
Because, I presume, you know that you are trying to create a totally unsupported environment.
Throw away the VMWare, go to Oracle VM on Oracle Enterprise Linux and you will find a much happier experience.
Happier too because RAC on Windows is not a pretty sight when it comes to transparent failover.
But please help me out with some of what you posted
1. Did you run the cluster verify tool? Post the full results
2. Did you create VIPs?
3. Can you ssh unchallenged between the two machines?

Oracle 9.2 RAC installation error on raw devices
During Oracle 9.2 RAC installation on Linux Red Hat 7.3 on raw devices
Database Configuration Assistant
returned the error message:
"Raw device validation check for Data File
"/dev/raw/clustdb_raw_cwmlite_100m" failed, No such file or directory".
Really this file exists, this is a link to a raw device.
How does Oracle validate the raw file?
What does this error mean?
Igor.During Oracle 9.2 RAC installation on Linux Red Hat 7.3 on raw devices
Database Configuration Assistant
returned the error message:
"Raw device validation check for Data File
"/dev/raw/clustdb_raw_cwmlite_100m" failed, No such file or directory".
Really this file exists, this is a link to a raw device.OK, so you are saying that /dev/raw/clustdb_raw_cwmlite_100m is link to /dev/raw/raw<x> (x some number)??
If not - there is your error.
How does Oracle validate the raw file?File MUST exists (or link) AND it must be a RAW device.
You can check it by raw -qa (it should display all raw devices, with theirs major-minor pairs)
What does this error mean?

Hi!
Can anyone help me with this one?
I have trying to installa RAC 10g R2 in Windows Server 2008 R2. I am encountering the error below:
OUI-35073: Exception occured while starting service in the remote nodes. Could not start the service 'OracleClusterVolumeService' in the remote cluster
nodes. The specified service does not exist as an installed serviceHi,
same as your other posts. Please have a look at the documentation and search for the RAC Starter Kits in support.oracle.com.
I believe you have a general setup problem in your environment.
Please post some more information, than just the error. Otherwise it is hard to help you.
Regards

Before proceeding, From ALL nodes in the cluster, make sure you can successfully connect using the IP address AND hostname AND hostname.FQN.com name using the following command
ssh date <ipaddress>
ssh date <hostname>
etc...
The result should be the date and possibly the /etc/issues file.
this should not prompt to be added to knownhosts file (if it does, answer YES) nor should it prompt you for a password.

CRS-0213 error during 10g RAC installation
The two nodes are 2 Sun machines. The Oracle CRS installation went smoothly without incidents. I then kicked in the 10g DB RAC installation. At the end of the installation, I got error. I took a snapshot here:
http://bostonfx.com/temp/ora10g.gif
Any advise is much appreciated,
LucasHi Lucas -
This sounds simliar to Bug 3584146 PRKR-1008 adding instance to CRS via SRVCTL. The published workaround follows:
The workaround is to give permissions on the vip resources for all oracle users on the machine.
crs_setperm ora.<nodename>.vip -u user:<orauser1>:rwx
crs_setperm ora.<nodename>.vip -u user:<orauser2>:rwx
Repeat this for all oracle users on the system.
Hope this helps

Installation error in invoking target 'agent nmhs'
Dear All,
I am new to this forum and I would like to inquire about the reasons behind a specific installation error of Oracle 11gR2 on Fedora 13 and the way to fix it. The error led to a weired behavior for the EM. I am going to explain everything precisely to flap the correspondence time so please please please bare with me.
I have followed precisely all the pre-requisites for preparing the installation environment (Fedora 13 Linux OS) by following the instructions in the manual that comes on the source installation Disk-1of Oracle 11g R2, like assigning the environment variables, setting kernel parameters, installation of all the required and necessary packages, creating the necessary directories and changing the owner ship, in addition to creation the user 'oracle' and the necessary groups. This installation ends up with a successful working database that can be accessed using sqlplus locally and remotely from another machine. My EM also worked but for a limited period of time for only about 10 to 15 min then after that I cannot access it due to a problem in the agent background process or daemon that is resulted from the error happened during the installation, and need to restart my machine. Here is what happened.
My installation is a stand alone database (database control / console database). Everything went smoothly during the installation except the following error that I couldn't get rid of or fix it, and I just continued the installation by clicking on the continue button of the OUI alert window. The error message on the alert window is:
Error in invoking target 'agent nmhs' of makefile '/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/sysman/lib/ins_emagent.mk'. See '/u01/app/oraInventory/logs/installActions2010-06-24_03-22-15PM.log' for details.
and here is the contenets (error part) of the installActions2010-06-24_03-22-15PM.log file

After all the above, I am going to explain here how this error affected the EM. Here is the output of starting the dbconsole:

EM Daemon is not running.

notice the EM Daemon (agent background process) is not running
Becuase of this error, the actual status of the database is not shown up in the EM. For example, if I try to startup my database through the EM, it starts successfully, but its status will not be shown, same thing happens for the listener. Clicking the View Details link in the EM after starting up the database shows up the following:

Agent is Not Running
again notice the last line of the message Agent is not running.
After all the above, I beleive that the installation error is the cause of all that. I would appreciate it if you could help me solving this problem. Thanks.
Bassam A. Al-KhaffafHi,
I have successfully installed Oracle 11g R2 after some manual intervention to solve this linker error.
The linker error actually gave the useful hint to solve this problem:
INFO: /usr/bin/ld: /home/akos/app/akos/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/sysman/lib//libnmectl.a(nmectlt.o): undefined reference to symbol 'B_DestroyKeyObject'
/usr/bin/ld: note: 'B_DestroyKeyObject' is defined in DSO /home/akos/app/akos/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/lib/libnnz11.so so try adding it to the linker command line
/home/akos/app/akos/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/lib/libnnz11.so: could not read symbols: Invalid operation
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
This means that the gcc linker phase lacked an option for "-lnnz11". I run "make agent nmhs" manually,
so the last command that gave an error can be copy&pasted to the command line. Adding "-lnnz11"
after "-lcore11" to the command made it run successfully, and also re-running "make agent nmhs"
on the command line didn't fail now. Then I chose the "Retry" button in the installer GUI and it proceeded.
This change in the Fedora 13 linker was announced at
http://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/Fedora/13/html/Release_Notes/sect-Release_Notes-The_GCC_Compiler_Collection.html
In Fedora 12 and earlier it was allowed to an app with library A and the app was able to use symbols
from every other libraries (B, C, ...) that library A was linked with. In Fedora 13 this is not allowed anymore,
your app needs to be linked explicitely with library B, C, etc.
Later, there was another problem with SELinux not allowing text relocation in .../product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/lib/libclntsh.so.11.1
which was solved by running:
chcon -t textrel_shlib_t '.../product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/lib/libclntsh.so.11.1'
and re-running configuration of "Oracle Net Configuration Assistant". This allows keeping SELinux on.
After that, installation and setup of the first database succeeded on Fedora 13. -

Writing system files: mkfs.ocfs2: Could not write: Input/output errorHi,
I'm getting the same problem. My RAC nodes are actually virtual machines created with MS Virtual Server, and the ocfs2 disk is a shared SCSI virtual hard disk.
I'm getting the "Could not write: Input/output error" message when creating a ocfs2 partition.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,

.I have used the oracle's OSR installation guide. I beg to differ if OSR is really enterprise ready product.
I dont think this is a specific problem with my installation. The point is that the installation logs is very poor to put it mildly.
you get a sense that this product is developed by school student and is not an enterprise ready software.

Problems with RAC installation with Windows 2000 Advanced Server
Hello,
I've two servers in cluster mode with W2K Advanced Server, and a RAID-5 array of 4 disks shared by both of them. My problem is that I've installed The Cluster Service of Windows in order to have an active/passive configuration of my servers, because I have a common directory structure that is accessed by the PC's of the LAN.
By another hand, I want to install Oracle Real Application Cluster to manage my Oracle database but after create the extended partition and the logical drives when I execute the file \preinstallation_rac\clustersetup\clustersetup.exe to create the cluster, when I select the option Create a cluster the following error message appears me:
"Any disk Oracle partition has been found. Stop this wizard, create an Oracle partition and try it
again."
I'd like to know if it's possible to have the Service Cluster of Windows 2k and the Oracle clusterware?¿ Altough before begining the installation I've stopped my Cluster Service as documentation suggests. If somebody knows what it's happening to me I'd be really very grateful.
Thanks in advance,
IsabelHello Joel,
I've already read all documentation provided by Oracle about Real Application Clusters
and I've not found anything to solve my problem. Certainly I want to use OCFS but when I
try to execute preinstall_rac\clustersetup.exe to install CFS the error appear and I can't
continue with RAC installation.
Besides I've tried command "lsnodes -v" and got :
Could not load CM.dll
Could not initialize cluster
And when I've tried to run "clustercheck" I've got :
** Copy File: Create Directory failed - Error 183
** Directory = \\192.168.1.111\Cy$\Temp\opsm
Created directory \\192.168.1.112\Cy$\Temp\opsm
Could not copy file to other nodes [error = 183]
I've read metalink Note 186130.1 Clustercheck Fails with Windows Error 183 and the only
proof I haven't done is get the clustercheck.exe release1(9.0.1).
Any suggestion will be very appreciated. Thanks,

hi
i m trying to install 9i RAC on windows 2000....installation guide realy doesnt work....according to installation guide i created logical drives on my single hard disk and down loaded CLUSTER FILE SYSTEM pack from oracle website.....next step is to run CLUSTERSETUP.EXE file in preinstall_rac\clustersetup\folders but it returns me error when i click NEXT on second screen(Create Cluster) and error message is "Unable to find an oracle disk partition. Please exit from the wizard, create Oracle partitions and try again"
can some one tell me all steps briefly??? for example what would i do firt and what afterwards etc....
do i need to run something on all node before starting any installation??? if yes then how? and do i need to create raw unformated logical drives after performing any specific configuring other nods in RAC...kindly tell me all steps...may i have a single hard drive whos one partition is NTFS and on the same physical hard drive i can create extended and then logical p[artition?
Best Regardsyou dont wrote about tasks of your rac installation.
if you need oas cluster there is a next problem: you cannt use network load balancer because nlb is not comppatible with mscs.
but i dont know about problems with database cluster.
im used such configuration last year.
Now i have the rac10g/db10g/ofs/mscs configuration.
