Random Connection Failure to Oracle from Packages

I have a project with 18 packages in it that connect to an Oracle database to extract data from over 150 Oracle tables. Sometimes the project completes okay; sometimes it doesn't.
The 18 packages have two to four data flow steps executed one at a time, with each step extracting data from four to eight Oracle tables simultaneously and depositing the rows into SQL Server tables.
When it errors, it is always the same: "ORA-12170: TNS:Connect timeout occurred".  The error could be in package 12 one night and in package 18 another night. Sometimes the project runs successfully through all 18 packages for two or three
nights.
Our network and Oracle people say that when it times out, they notice that Oracle sends a "connection okay" message, but there is no response from the SQL Server side. Then it continues to try to send the "connection okay" for about 30
seconds, upon which it times out.
Has anyone seen this problem before?
Greg

The Attunity driver is a completely different thing.  I would suggest contacting them and see if there is any diagnostic data they can provide.
Also see:
http://www.attunity.com/forums/microsoft-ssis-oracle-connector/time-out-error-1576.html
PS.  The error "ORA-12170" is actually coming from the driver.  So it is not technically an SSIS issue, but something else.

  • I'm having strange random connection failures. Are there ineffieciency in my config?

I've been having strange, random connection failures and I'm trying to eliminate possible causes.
What happens is while I'm browsing on the net over wifi, a link will at random not connect to the site, but instead fault to the ISP error page. It happens with highly reliable sites like google, or ebay, or whatever. If I direct connect to the cable modem, the problem site is immediately available.
I'm sitting <6 feet from a 871W router (with antenna). There's one router in my building and others are at my neighbors.
Below is the conf file. Just to imagine how rediculious this problem is, here's a screen shot from a web page. This shows a web page I visited, and after clicking on a link (an embedded youtube video), the error showed up within the page itself.
Why would only some URLs fail to connect? Is there inefficiencies in my config?

I removed the ip router 0 0 to no great effect, which I consider to be a win.
I'm guessing that since overload is what--I understand--translates the one outside to the many inside IPs, that the suggestion to have only one overload configured means I should combine the two ip ranges into one.
I deleted 10.0.0.0 network. Changed the bridge references to 1 and vlan references to 1. Now wifi and ethernet should all be using the same internal network? That's the idea, right? Any more fat?

  • Connection to a oracle from a Pocket PC via ODBC

    Hi,
i'm trying to connect my pocket PC while on the craddle to an oracle database, i would like to now the best way to do it with ODBC (i have Oracle Lite 9i on the pocket PC). I cannot see how getting the .dsn to get the ODBC properties of my database.
Another question is why i cannot call SQLGetDiagRec with the Oracle 9i Lite ODBC driver. Is this method is not implemented in Oracle 9i Lite ?
    thanks for any answers.
    Arnaud.

Can you connect to the database from the Pocket PC via any method (i.e. any client tools)? If so, I can probably guess at the appropriate DSN parameters. If not, you may need to ask this question on the Oracle Lite forum.

  • Error connecting to Oracle from when running SSIS Package on Windows 64-bit

    Hi.
I have an SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services) Package that reads a view on Oracle and loads data into table in SQL Server 2005. This is on a Windows 2008 Server (64-bit). SQL Server 2005 with SP3. Oracle Client 11g (32 bit & 64 bit) Runtime Version installed on server. The server has been rebooted since installing OracleClient.
I get the following error when run as a SQLAgent job 64 Bit (Execution type SQL Server Integration Services Package)...

When I execute this same exact package as a SQLAgent job 32-bit (type Operating System CmdExec) it runs successfully. When I run the package using the Execute Package Utility, it runs successfully. When I am editting the package in BIDS I can connect to Oracle. For both 64 and 32 bit, I use a dtsconfig file which specifies the Oracle connection string and password.
Someone mentioned on another forum that maybe there is no Oracle ODBC driver for 64-bit Windows. I would assume that the OracleClient 64-bit would include that.
I hope I have included all info needed. Please let me know if you may have a resolution to this problem.
    Thanks.

I was trying to transfer data from oracle to sql server 2008 on a daily basis.
I have very hard time connecting to oracle from ssis package on windows server 2008. I am almost dead and cannot find any help. i was able to connect to oracle using import/export 64 bit feature of SQL Server 2008 using Oracle provider for OLEDB. But I am not sure why the same does not work with BIDS?
    Here's the environment info:
    1. Oracle Client 10g
    2. SQL Server 2008
    3. Windows Server 2008
Appreciate your help. Please save me.

    1. in physical connections part can i use the same work schema
    2. Can i use same contexts created or do i need to create everything as new and then try?
    Thanks,
    Rp.
    Hi,
As you mentioned that you just upgraded the database, so the data is same and schema is same you can connect with the same work schema.
Yes, you can use the same contexts , but need to do Reverse Engineering for your new database.
And about data server, i think you also have no need to create new data server, if hostname, sid and port etc are same as these were with R11(consult with your DBAs regarding it)

Server and/or port attributes are empty {HY000,NativeErr = 33}Always test ODBC client connectivity on the Oracle server to the remote and foreign database, first. Use the isql ODBC client command line interface (as the oracle or grid o/s user).
If this does not work, then Oracle HSO will also not work.
Once you have confirmed that this is working, then configure the HSO service for Oracle.
If that fails, enables ODBC client tracing for that HSO service (in the init file for that service) to see exactly what ODBC calls Oracle is making and which of these are failing.

    Hi Su,
    Thanks for your post.
How do you manually build  your PL/SQL/Oracle projects?
TFS Build invoke MSBuild command to build project/solution on build agent machine by default. If these projects can be built using MSBuild command line manually, then we can use TFS Build(default build process template) to build these projects.
If these projects need be built using another complier, and this compiler support run the command line to invoke it, so you can add the InvokeProcess activity(execute the command line) to invoke this compiler to build these projects in build process template,
then create build definition using this customized build process template.

thank and sorry for my bad english

    Hi, how are you?
I read your file. On my computer, I got the same problem. First I installed Personal Oracle 8.15 version under window 98. The oracle home is e:\orale\ora81. Then I installed Form 8i in the orale home e:\oracle\ora. After installation, there are two SQLPLUS. One is under ora81 and another is ora. The one which is in e:\oracle\ora81 is working and it can bring up the database. Another one and Forms don't work. They can not connect to the local database. It means my client which is under e:\oracle\ora can't connect to my server which is under e:\oracle\ora81. I think I shoud set up the connection in tnsnames.ora by using Net8 Easy Config. I did it. It failed. Can you help me?
    Thanks.

No, you shouldn't have to to.
If you have Personal Oraacle 8 running properly on your PC, then you can just connect to the database from Developer V6 using your normal username/password. For example, if you log on to SQLPLUS as scott/tiger, then the same will work for your forms and reports. You don't even need to enter a connect string. I have it working OK on a Windows '98 PC, with Personal Oracle 8i, and Forms v6i.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

  • Connect to SQL Server from Oracle

Does Oracle offer any connectivity to NON-Oracle databases such as SQL Server from within the Oracle database itself, similar to a database link ?

Yes, it's called Heterogeneous Connectivity. Basically how it works is you set up an ODBC data source on the Oracle server
and need to modify the tnsnames.ora and listener.ora files. Once you get it set up it works exactly like a dblink. You should be
able to find information on it in the Oracle manuals or from Metalink. There's also a Heterogenous Connectivity forum on OTN. If
you can't find anything let me know and I can send you some documents on how to set it up. I think the hardest part for you might
be finding a SQL Server ODBC driver for HP-UX.

  • Connecting ms sql server from oracle using db link

    Hi,
Source : Oracle 11g on linux
destination : ms sql server 2005
i need to create the db link from oracle to ms sql server to view the tables , is it posibble without configuring the gateways( as looks like it is licenced product)
Please let me know any alternative to achive this
    Thanks
    PGR

There are 2 gateway - the commercial Database Gateway for Ms SQl Server which requires a license and the Database Gateway for ODBC which is for free. The license for DG4ODBC is included in your database license. You only need to install a suitable ODBC driver on your Linux box (for example use the MS SQl Server ODBC driver for Linux - details can be found here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=36437 ). and then configure the gateway using the My Oracle Support Note:

  • Connecting to SQL Server from Solaris using Perl & Oracle.

    Hey All,
Using the DBI.pm provided by the default Perl package that comes integrated with Oracle server, I am being able to connect to the Oracle database through Perl.
But is there a way I can connect to SQL Server through Perl using any package provided by Oracle like ODBC or something else (on Solaris)
I am using following version of Oracle server on Solaris 10
Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.4.0 - 64bit Production
    TIA
    Parag

The problem is I cannot install any third party package but I found something. Have a look at this:
    bash-3.00$ pwd
    /opt/oracle/product/10.2.0.4.0/perl/lib/site_perl/5.8.3/sun4-solaris-thread-multi/Win32
    bash-3.00$ ls -l
    total 10
    -rwxr-xr-x 1 oracle dba 4532 Jul 7 2004 DBIODBC.pm
    bash-3.00$
Will explore more and keep you all posted.
    Cheers,
    Parag

  • Regarding the tns-12541 error in connecting to sql server from oracle

i need to create a database link from oracle on windows box to sql server.I configured everything but when i am trying to tnsping the sqlserver
it throws me an TNS12541 no listener error.
The listner status is up and the listener works

little confusion here, are you trying to tnsping sql server? tnsping is an Oracle utulity.
To acces sql server from Oracle you may use Transparent Gateway for Microsoft SQL - http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/gateways.102/b14270/ch3.htm#sthref66 and Heterogeneous Connectivity - http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14232/intro.htm#sthref33
    Best regards.

  • Failure when connecting MS SQL SERVER from ODI ! could not load JDBS driver

i have some trouble with connecting MS SQL SERVER from ODI.
I have already downland jdbs driver 3.0 (and 2.0 ) and copy the sqljdbc4.jar to D:\oracle\product\11.1.1\Oracle_ODI_1\oracledi\agent\drivers( where the oracle jdbs driver is already exitst )....but i have this error :
could not load JDBS driver class..
    thanks

After more investigation and even more chocolate, we've identified the problem and it's now working. For anyone else who strikes this problem in future, here's something to check/consider/try:
Even though Squirrel SQL Client was connecting and working ok using the MS JDBC driver (v 3.0), it recorded this in its logs:
Cannot resolve the collation conflict between "SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS" and "Latin1_General_CI_AS" in the INTERSECT operation.
We've found that the open source jTDS driver does not have the same issue as the Microsoft one.
We've installed the current jTDS driver, recorded the driver name (net.sourceforge.jtds.jdbc.Driver) and the JDBC URL (jdbc:jtds:sqlserver://<hostname>:1433/<database>) and the connection is now working fine.
    Hope this helps other people...
Thanks to those of you who offered suggestions and things to check...much appreciated.
    Robyn
