RAT replay issue on 2 node RAC

Hi Guys,
I am working on RAT with 2 node RAC (dbname: SERVER1).
I have started workload capture on SERVER1, directory name: CAPTURE and executed some simple update script like
SQL> update employee set empname='A' where empid=1;
SQL> commit;
Later, created another directory named REPLAY on same 2 node RAC (dbname: SERVER1), and moved all captured files from both CAPTURE directory (on both nodes) to both REPLAY directory (on both nodes).
Now before starting the workload, made the following changes to employee table:
SQL> update employee set empname='Z' where empid=1;
SQL> commit;
Then started the replay process, which got completed successfully in few mins.
But now, when i see employee table's record with empid 1, there in not change to empname field. It's still showing as 'Z', also the AWR and cursor cache doesn't show execution of this UPDATE statement.
Can someone suggest what's the issue going here?

There is no such thing as 'Urgent help' in a forum of volunteers.
Your usage of 'Urgent' is insulting and rude.
Also databases don't have fields. Are you sure you aren't working with a punch card system?

  • Issues while Add / Delete RAC Node in Oracle 10g R2

    Hi,
    I have an requirement to add a New Node in the existing 2 Node RAC at Production, where 1 Node is Active & other one is passive due to licence issue & cannot keep both the nodes as active. Due to performance issues (Memory , CPU Cores ..etc) we are adding another new node.
    Right now we are planning to add a 3rd database node making the new node as active and current active one as passive which is a swap & later on after final observation delete and decommission the current passive node.
    This activity is checked at the Dev database with the same infrastructure (OS + Memory ..etc) but want to check what is the best approach (or) challenges we face during the RAC Node Addition / Deletion
    RAC DB Version : 10.2.o.4
    OS Version : RHEL 5.8
    (1) Is the approach is right one , First Adding the node & later on delete
    (2) If the approach is the correct , what would be the behavious of the 3rd node in means of active (or) passive
    (3) We have taken RMAN backup , OS backup , CRS , ORACLE_HOME , ASM_Home backup , OCR & VD.
    (4) Could you please give detail steps for adding / deleting node in 10g R2.
    (5) Are they any known bugs to us with the DB release (or) OS while performing this activity.
    Since this is a production machine we want to more proactive . Please correct or add any thing i am missing out ...
    With Thanks,
    Rakesh

    Hello Rakesh,
    Please follow the following steps.
    Node Addition Steps
    1. Install and configure OS and hardware for new node.
    2. Add Oracle Clusterware to the new node.
    3. Configure ONS for the new node.
    4. Add ASM home to the new node.
    5. Add Databse home to the new node.
    6. Add a listener to the new node.
    7. Add ASM instance to the New Node.
    8. Add a database instance to the new node.
    Details of steps
    1. run cluvfy to verify whether New node is ready for addition or not.
         $ cluvfy stage -pre crsinst -n node2
    2. from node1, execute
              $/u01/app/crs11g/oui/bin/addNode.sh
    3. Specify node2 vip address and follow instructions.
    4. In the last of installtion it may through an wornig and will ask to click on YES. click on YES
    5. from node1,
              /u01/app/crs11g/bin/racgons add_config node2:6200
    6. from Node1,set ORACLE_HOME=ASM_HOME and then execute addNode.sh from $ASM_HOME/oui/bin and Follow instrusctions.
    7. From node1, set ORACLE_HOME=DB_HOME and then
         /u01/app/oracle/product/11.1.0/db_1/oui/bin/addNode.sh
         and Follow instructions.
    8. from node2 start NETCA and configure listener for new node. While configuring Listener select the name of new node.
    9. from node1 start dbca from ASM Home to configure ASM instance for new node.
    10. Again from node1 start dbca from DB Home to add DB instance
    Node deletion Steps
    1. Delete the Database instance on the node to be deleted.
    2. Clean up the ASM instance.
    3. Remove the listener from the node to be deleted.
    4. Remove the node from the database.
    5. Remove the node from ASM.
    6. Remove ONS configuration from the node to be deleted.
    7. Remove the node from the clusterware
    Details of Steps
    1. Remove database Instance of node2
         Dbca -> instance Management -> delete instance -> password for sys -> select node -> finish.
    2. Stop asm for node2 from any nodes.
         $srvctl stop asm –n node2
    3. Remove asm for node2
         $ srvctl remove asm -n node2
    4. Remove Listener from Node2 using NETCA.
    5. From Node2:
              ./runInstaller -updateNodeList ORACLE_HOME=$ORACLE_HOME "CLUSTER_NODES=node2" -local
    6. From Node2, start runinstaller from Oracle_DB_Home/oui/bin, and remove "DB_HOME"
         $ ./runinstaller
         On the WELCOME Screen -> Deinstall product -> Select dbhome name (OraDb10g_Home1) -> Remove
    7. From Node1:
              ./runInstaller -updateNodeList ORACLE_HOME=$ORACLE_HOME "CLUSTER_NODES=node1"
    8. From Node2, set Oracle_Home to asm_1 and then fire:
              ./runInstaller -updateNodeList ORACLE_HOME=$ORACLE_HOME "CLUSTER_NODES=node2" -local
    9. From Node2, start OUI and deinstall ASM Home.
    10. From Node1, Set ORACLE_HOME= /u01/app/oracle/product/11.1.0/asm_1

    RAC needs the very same storage layer to be visible and available on each RAC node - thus this needs to be some form of shared cluster storage.
    Should a piece of it fails on one node, that node would not be able to access the RAC database files on that shared storage layer - and will throw the type of errors you are seeing.
    So how does this shared storage layer look like? Fibre channels (HBAs) connected to a Fibre Channel Switch and SAN - making SAN LUNs available as shared storage devices?
    Typically a shared storage failure would throw errors in the kernel log. This is because the error is not an Oracle error, but a kernel error. As it is in your case. The bottom error on the error stack points to the root cause:
    ORA-01157: cannot identify/lock data file 75 - see DBWR trace file
    ORA-01110: data file 75: '/dev/vg_rac/rraw_tap3plus_temp_live05'
    ORA-27041: unable to open file
    HPUX-ia64 Error: 19: No such device
    So HP-UX on that node is not seeing a specific shared storage device.

    RAC: 2 Node RAC setup
    Our RAC setup has been properly done and RAC is working fine with load balancing i.e clients are getting connection on both instances. BUT the issue I am facing with my RAC setup is High Availability testing. When I send reboot signal to "Node-2" and the "Node-1" is up what I observe and receive complain from clients that they have lost connection with database ALSO no new connections are being allowed. When I see the alert log of "Node-1" I see the following abnormal messages reported in it:

    Regards,

    if above were really 100% correct, you would not be here posting about errors!Definitely but these situations could become the cause for new BUGS, isn't it?
    I don't know what is real & what is unnecessary obfuscation.What part of the thread you didn't understand.
    It is not a good idea to have subtraction sign/dash character as part of object/host name; i.e. "Node-1"."Node-1" is not the hostname it is just to make clear understanding. the hostname is "sdupn101" for node-1 and "sdupn102" for node-2.
    ORA-00600/ORA-07445/ORA-03113 = Oracle bug => search on Metalink and/or call Oracle supportNewbie is my status on this forum but I have little bit ethics of using forums and suppot blogs. I searched but unfortunately didn't find any matching solution.
    Anyway will update you once find any solution so that you can assist someone else in future.

    Can any one please help me How to manually create 11.2.0.2 standalone physical standby database from 2 node RAC (11.2.0.2) database which is running in RHEL5 and ASM plugged in.
    DB : 11.2.0.2
    OS : RHEL5I had similar issue, what i did
    1. Used source oracle_home on standby server
    2. Created new asm instance and use same naming
    3. I took RMAN full backup on source and move it to target
    4. I edit initora file remove RAC setting and restore db(also edited listener file)

  • ORACLE 10G 2 Node RAC on servers AB to 3 node 11GR2 RAC on  new servers XYZ

    Hi Gurus ,
    We have a business requirement to upgrade existing oracle 10.2.0.4 2 Node RAC on servers A,B (HP UX 11.31 ) to 3 Node ORACLE 11GR2 on new Servers X,Y and Z(Linux and servers are from different vendor)
    We don't have ASM.We have RAW file system
    Now this has to be done with near zero down time.This is a very busy OLTP System.Golden Gate is not an option as Management is not going for it this time.
    Storage is same for everything.I am thinking of the following ways.Please let me know if you have any better plan or if you want to correct my existing plan
    Initially i thought of this way and i immediately answered myself
    Plan A
    1 ) Storage copy (BC etc..) exising 10g RAC Database files on A,B to new volumes allocated to Servers X,Y and Z ( I don't think it's possible as OS is different.I am not sure whether copying this way is possible or not , even if possible i am not sure whether new OS can identify these files or not)
    2 ) upgrade 2 Node 10.2.0.4 on X,Y to 11GR2 .
    3 ) Add a Database Node on Z
    Plan B is
    1) Build 3 Node brand new 11GR2 on X,Y and Z
    2 ) Plan for how can you replicate the data ( This has to be a logical way)
    a ) RMAN - Very time consuming as this is >50 TB Database
    b) Golden Gate - Not an option.Even if we can use it , i see there are so many logical issues with golden gate
    c) Expdp/impdp - forget about it :)
    d) physical standby (Versions are different.If it is same version and Same OS then would have been best bet)
    What would be the ideal way to do this with minium down time and with out golden gate
    I think something can be done on the lines of PLAN A itself.
    Requesting your help Gurus
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Have you considered possibility to setup a logical standby and do rolling upgrade ?
    Please have a look at the following:
    1) http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/features/availability/maa-wp-11g-transientlogicalrollingu-1-131927.pdf
    2) http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/features/availability/maa-wp-11g-upgrades-made-easy-131972.pdf
    If you can practice on test setup, it looks a faster option than the others.

  • 11gR2- webutil upload file to AS on two nodes RAC?

    Hellow experts plz help with the following issue,
    we are using 11gR2 forms on two node rac,webutil configured on both nodes. upload/download files to AS folder(UP_FILES) using our forms. node 2 is actually replica of node 1(forms,reports,UP_FILES). we are now facing a problem that the form which upload file to AS, only upload that to the node from where it is running say if it is running from node1 then it upload files to folder UP_FILES on that node( as the entry in webutil.cfg file) but we want that UP_FILES folder should be synced with each other on both nodes and a form running whether from node1 or node2 upload the file to both nodes at time.
    How this will be accomplished?
    --------webutil.cfg entry
    transfer.appsrv.read.3=D:\UP_FILES
    transfer.appsrv.write.3=D:\UP_FILES
    -----FORM UPLOAD CODE
          IF :CONTROL.FILE_LOC IS NOT NULL THEN
            acyr3 := :CONTROL.TXTVOUCHERNO||'-'||acyr2 ;
           FILE_RESULT := WEBUTIL_FILE_TRANSFER.CLIENT_TO_AS_WITH_PROGRESS(CLIENTFILE=>:CONTROL.FILE_LOC,
           SERVERFILE =>'D:\UP_FILES\'||acyr3||'.PDF',
          PROGRESSTITLE=>'UPLOAD TO DATABASE IN PROGRESS',
          PROGRESSSUBTITLE=>'PLEASE WAIT' );
          END IF;
    --FORM DOWNLOAD CODE
            FILE_RESULT := WEBUTIL_FILE_TRANSFER.AS_TO_CLIENT_WITH_PROGRESS
                 CLIENTFILE=>'D:\UP_FILES\'||acyr3||'.PDF',
            SERVERFILE =>'D:\UP_FILES\'||acyr3||'.PDF',
          PROGRESSTITLE=>'DOWNLOAD FROM DATABASE IN PROGRESS',
          PROGRESSSUBTITLE=>'PLEASE WAIT'
                 CLIENT_HOST('rundll32.exe url.dll,FileProtocolHandler D:\UP_FILES\'||acyr3||'.PDF');
                 IF FILE_RESULT THEN
      message('File downloaded successfully from the Application Server');
      END IF;

    Well, you're uploading the file to one node, so this is no surprise. What you can do is to store your file on a shared folder (which might be a bit tricky on windows) or synchronize a folder between your nodes. Unfortunately Forms can't access ASM directly (assuming you are using ASM), so you can't store your files directly in ASM where it would be accessible from both nodes.
    cheers

  • Setup 2-Node RAC 11.2.0.1.0 on Windows Server 2008

    I have been setting up RAC environments in VirtualBox and VMWare in my local machine and in our test server. I have done the following setup:
    1. RAC 10g on RHEL 5.4 (VMWare / VBox)
    2. RAC 11g on RHEL 5.4 (VBox)
    3. RAC 11g on Windows Server 2008 (VBox)
    Now, our management wants me to setup a 2-node RAC in real world. Cost is not an issue here as this will be financed by a big private group.
    I am excited to do the project as I am really enthusiastic in database clustering. Of course, there is a little nervous feeling since this is
    my first time doing it in real world (as the best RAC expert started from his first deployment :) ).
    I am going to build RAC 11.2.0.1.0 in Windows Server 2008
    I would like to seek advise on:
    - the best practices, what are the things that I have to consider?
    - any straight forward real world deployment guide or technical papers that can serve as my reference
    - any issues that I might encounter
    - any help and feedback
    I know I can be successful in this first time project if ill seek advise to the experts.
    I hope you can help me and I will be glad to read and review your contributions.
    Thanks a lot.....

    Hi,
    Few months ago I had a project to setup RAC on Windows 2008 R2. For six months now there are no problems and it's working fine, but I have to say that installation wasn't easy and took me a lot of time. Another thing is the troubleshooting, I feel completely helpless when (if) something screws up. It takes between 10 to 15 mins to have database running in case of reboot of the servers.
    So here are few things to consider:
    - Disable write cache on shared disks.
    - Disable User Access Control!
    - Disable firewall (really important)!
    - Use diskpart command to create extended and logical partition on all disks.
    - There is also nasty bug we hit, I've blogged about it:
    http://sve.to/2011/09/29/exhaust-of-windows-2008-heap-memory-with-oracle-database-11-2-0-2/
    - I had a terrible problems with user equivalence. Verify Privileges for copying files in the cluster:
    net use \\nodeX\c$
    - Once installation is completed apply latest Bundle Patch - currently this is BP6 (Patch 13965211):
    DB 11.2.0.3 Patch 6 includes all bugs fixed in 11.2.0.3 Patch 1 to Patch 5 and also includes CPU2012. It must be applied on top of the 11.2.0.3.
    Useful MOS notes:
    RAC and Oracle Clusterware Best Practices and Starter Kit (Windows) [ID 811271.1]
    Windows: CLUVFY Fails with TCP Check PRVF-7617 Due to Case of Node Names [ID 1286394.1]
    Finally if you have a choice then go with Linux, it's robust, easy to install and maintain. You have better control on the system and user processes, it's more flexible and easy to troubleshoot.
    Regards,
    Sve

  • RAC hangs when starting or stopping 2nd instance of 2 node RAC

    Has anyone seen the problem with all transactions and/or logins hanging when starting or stopping the 2nd node of a 2 node RAC database. When I shut down the 2nd instance using srvctl I occasionally get errors and long delays connecting. On our larger database with instances having a very large SGAs, trying to connect you sometimes get ORA-12537 or ORA-01033. Users experience a very long hang before getting the errors. These instances have very large SGAs of about 30GB on each node.
    In the log of the first instance we see messages like the following for quite a while.
    Global Resource Directory frozen
    Communication channels reestablished
    Master broadcasted resource hash value bitmaps

    Thanks in advance.

    I have tested with only one node and starting and stopping is much faster without any cache fusion traffic. The application is not RAC aware, it was written without regard for RAC. As you say there may be some accessing of the same block by all nodes causing RAC to remaster blocks when a node is shut down.
    My concern is the length of time users are afftected when I am starting a node that has been offline for a while. With the large SGA I have, it appears users are affected adversely for several minutes, in affect causing an outage which we are trying to avoid by using RAC.

  • How to apply archivelogs from 2 node rac to non-rac

    Is there any way to apply the archivelogs from 2 node RAC to sinlge node non-rac instance while migrating RAC to non-rac.
    Could anyone clarify it?
    -Shanlee

    There's no "different way".
    Each instance in RAC write's to it's own Redo Thread -- so each has it's own set of ArchiveLogs. In the log_archive_format specification %t is the thread identifier.
    Oracle needs the ArchiveLogs from both Threads of the 2 node RAC. When you issue a RECOVER DATABASE, it applies them in the correct (interleaved) sequence.
    What you have to do is to ensure that the ArchiveLogs of both threads are available on the new server.

  • Replication between 2 node RAC environment and standalone

    I would like to find out if we can setup replication between a (2 node) RAC environment and standalone database located at different location. Any help regarding this would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for the reply.
    Consider for a moment I cannot implement dataguard/stream -- because I believe both involves licensing issue --- now only option left is writing my own code. If I right my own code what are the prerequisites for this and what do I have to keep in (technically)mind before i start implementing this. Any help or any lead would be greatly appreciated.

  • Password file users issue... RAC help please...

    Hi guys,
    i have a two node rac database installed on my laptop.. 11gr2.
    in rac a database will be accessed by more than once instance correct....
    here i have two instance myinst1 and myinst2.
    here if we add a user in any one of the instances (say myinst1).. using that user account. the user can connect to either the myinst1 and myinst2.... correct....
    say now i grant the user i just created with the SYSDBA and SYSOPER privileges.. (user created on myinst1).
    now i can connect to both of the instance using the following syntax as a sysdba..
    connect user/password@servicename as sysdba
    now here comes the best part..
    oracle states that once the user is given either the sysdba or sysoper it will be updated in the password file...
    now as i have created the user in the myinst1 instance and granted the privileges there... the password file at the node myinst1 shows the details of the user in the V$PWFILE_USERS views. where as the other instance myinst2 V$PWFILE_USERS does nt have the user...
    can any one tell me why is this happening... do i have to explictly grant the SYSDBA privilege on all the instances once if i want to grant a user with the sysdba or sysoper privilege...

    Surely there is more than this? I have always believed that the only valid configuration of a Password File in RAC is for a single file to be shared by all instances - by putting it on a shared file system or multipathed raw volume (like the database files), with a Unix symbolic link or init.ora SPFILE reference on each node. I have seen documentation that people have stored a database password file in ASM (SPFILE=+XYZ...) and even on NFS and CIFS.
    SYSDBA and SYSOPER access uses the password file of course and it is effectively part of the database, and to me it seems reasonable to expect that an instance will only update the one Password File it knows aboutwhen SYSDBA/OPER access is added, removed or changed; so the consequences of having multiple copies for a single database may be expected to be bad. It was noted here that granting SYSDBA privilege on one node leads to inconsistency in that account's privileges across nodes. Maybe worse is that removing SYSDBA access from one node could leave SYSDBA access to other nodes/instances in place, in clusters where there are multiple local password files... this can be viewed as a very serious security defect, which one of our DBAs has demonstrated.
    Now I have learned that Oracle's documentation does not actually give much advice about the configuration of Password Files for RAC; that while some people have done what I expected for years, some product guides suggest on the contrary that local copies should be created on each node; and even that Oracle may not support a single Password File on a shared device. Having Googled the web and scanned this forum quickly, I haven't found a resolution. I am stunned.
    I am sure that, of all people, the RAC SIG will be able to advise on this authoritatively, so please do so. If it turns out that Oracle does not recommend or support the use of a single shared file (*),then I suggest there is a significant issue.
    (*) Just to be clear, I am not refering to a SHARED password file, but to an EXCLUSIVE one that is on a shared storage volume accessed by every instance of the same RAC database. How Oracle behaves with a SHARED parameter setting may be another issue.
