RAW device validation check
While configuing database using DBCA it shows
"Raw device validation check for Control file "/var/opt/oracle/oradata/orcl/control01.ctl"
failed, stat for /var/opt/oracle/oradata/orcl/control01.ctl failed.
Do you really want to create a database on raw devives or did you accidently select the 'raw device' button? "/var/opt/oracle/oradata/orcl/control01.ctl" doesn't look like a raw device, it could be at most a link. Generally raw devices can be checked with 'dd if=<shared config file> of=/dev/null bs=<db_block_size>' .

how i can check that OCR & Voting disk can access raw devices? & how i can check the size of raw devices also?
Once you find the raw devices, see your thread from yesterday on the subject, you can /sbin/fdisk -l <device name> to find information about the size.

Oracle 9.2 RAC installation error on raw devices
During Oracle 9.2 RAC installation on Linux Red Hat 7.3 on raw devices
Database Configuration Assistant
returned the error message:
"Raw device validation check for Data File

Really this file exists, this is a link to a raw device.
How does Oracle validate the raw file?
What does this error mean?
Igor.During Oracle 9.2 RAC installation on Linux Red Hat 7.3 on raw devices
Database Configuration Assistant
returned the error message:
"Raw device validation check for Data File

Really this file exists, this is a link to a raw device.OK, so you are saying that /dev/raw/clustdb_raw_cwmlite_100m is link to /dev/raw/raw<x> (x some number)??
If not - there is your error.
How does Oracle validate the raw file?File MUST exists (or link) AND it must be a RAW device.
You can check it by raw -qa (it should display all raw devices, with theirs major-minor pairs)

This could mean either your cluster registry file is corrupt or you don't have access to the raw devices. Check the access to the shared storage raw device is valid. If this is not true, then make sure you have all your backup files ready.

How to check space on asm and raw device?
Hi All,
I want to know how to check the space on asm device.
we are using asm device which is on raw partition.
Our archive gets full.I need to check the space on asm archve partiotion.
how can i check the archive destination space?
we are using raw device partition for crs and voting device.
how can we check the space on raw device and how can we know which device is in use and which are not in use
Thanks in advance4 - 5 raw partitions...
What oracle version?
Install OCR + VOTE in raw device better than OCFS2. if you use 10g to 11gR1.
If use 11gR2,keep OCR + VOTE in ASM Disk Group.
you can check which raw device OCR:
$ ocrcheck
VOTEDISK:
$ crsctl query css votedisk
On 10g if use raw device for OCR + votedisk: recommend 1 file = 250M
11g recommend 1 file = 512M

ASM Spfile on shared raw device
Hi,
I am building two nodes Cluster on Linux 4 update 5. I have successfully created the CRS. Now I am trying to create the ASM instance using the ./dbca. When I select both nodes to manage diskgroup, during the instance creation, and after I enter the SPFILE file location, I am receiving this message
{The /dev/raw/raw10/spfile.asm.ora location is not valid. The directory "[/dev/raw/raw10/] is not a shared system partition across nodes1 and 2.}
The Oracle:dba has the ownership and read/write permission on this partition.
Your help highly appreciated.
Majid1) Check to make sure that the partition /dev/raw/raw10 is a shared raw device between the nodes (you can do this by using: dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/raw/raw10 bs=1M count=x from both the nodes while logged in oracle).
2) Since /dev/raw/raw10 is a raw device, you can not specify /dev/raw/raw10/spfile.asm.ora as an SPFILE location. Alternatively, under $ORACLE_HOME/dbs create a link to /dev/raw/raw10 with the name spfile$ORACLE_SID.ora from both the nodes.
ln -s /dev/raw/raw10 $ORACLE_HOME/dbs/spfile$ORACLE_SID.ora (both the nodes)
HTH
Thanks

We're using ASMlib here, and I'm trying to figure out which raw devices were mapped to which ASM disks. From the installation instructions, our disks must have been created using the "/etc/init.d/oracleasm createdisk VOL1 /dev/sdg1
" command mentioned on Oracle's main site. However the commands to query disks don't seem to provide that link.
For instance the following command:
/etc/init.d/oracleasm querydisk /dev/sdg1
Will tell you if that device is indeed and ASM disk, but it won't tell you which label it maps to. Similarly
/etc/init.d/oracleasm querydisk VOL1
will tell you that the disk with that label is an ASM disk, but won't tell you which raw device it maps to. The reason I'm asking about this is myself and the sysadmins are trying to map our ASM disks back to the raw devices and from there back to the luns. This obviously wasn't documented at the time the disks were created, long before I started working at my current company. We can go from databases to disk groups and from disk groups to ASM devices, but we can't get from ASM device labels to the raw device names which would allow us to go backwards to the luns.
Thanks!me too...
#/etc/init.d/oracleasm querydisk /dev/sdc5
Disk "/dev/sdc5" is marked an ASM disk with the label "VOL1"
I still find device name from major and minor:
#/etc/init.d/oracleasm querydisk VOL1
Disk "VOL1" is a valid ASM disk on device \[8, 37\]
#ls -l /dev/* | grep 8, | grep 37
brw-rw---- 1 root disk 8, 37 Jul 31 17:48 /dev/sdc5
Script:
#!/bin/sh
if \[ $# -ne 1 \]
then
echo "Please Check arguments."
echo
echo "./getasmlib \[label\]"
echo
echo " ./getasmlib VOL01"
exit 0
fi
LABEL=$1
C=`/etc/init.d/oracleasm querydisk ${LABEL} |grep valid |wc -l`
if \[ ${C} -eq 0 \]
then
echo "Don't Found ${LABEL} Disk in ASMLIB"
exit 0
fi
M=`/etc/init.d/oracleasm querydisk ${LABEL} | awk -F [ '{print $2 }' | awk '{print $1}'`
N=`/etc/init.d/oracleasm querydisk ${LABEL} | awk -F , '{print $2 }' | awk -F ] '{print $1}'`
for x in ` ls -l /dev/* | grep ${M} | grep ${N} | awk '{print $10}' `
do
/etc/init.d/oracleasm querydisk $x |grep ${LABEL}
done
# ./getasmlib VOL1
Disk "/dev/sdc5" is marked an ASM disk with the label "VOL1"

Hello,
I am getting the following error when I try to complete approval process.
ORA-20001: Unable to create tablespace. ORA-01

e error, unable to create file OSD-04002: unable to open file O/S-Error: (OS 2)
The system cannot find the file specified.
I checked the alert log for error here is the error in the alert log file.
ORA-1119 signalled during: CREATE TABLESPACE FLOW_1 DATAFILE '//./FLOW_1.dbf'..
and i found the syntax for create tablespace was wrong.
To create a tablespace in RAC with RAW device environment under windows.
it should have forward black slash instead of backward slash "/" without .dbf extension.
so, I changed the syntax i was able to create tablespace through sqlplus.
When APEX tool try to create this tablespace it throws this error..
Old: CREATE TABLESPACE FLOW_1 DATAFILE
'\\.\FLOW_1.dbf' SIZE 10304 K REUSE AUTOEXTEND OFF
EXTENT MANAGEMENT LOCAL AUTOALLOCATE SEGMENT SPACE MANAGEMENT AUTO
error : ORA-01119: error in creating database file '\\.\FLOW_1.dbf'
New:
CREATE TABLESPACE FLOW_1 DATAFILE
'\\.\FLOW_1' SIZE 10304 K REUSE AUTOEXTEND OFF

Tablespace created.
Is it a bug in APEX 3.0.1.??
Is anyone installed APEX in RAC ??
JamesHi,
One observation, Apex is switching the Session ID after one got killed ? I was working on Apex page with browse Item to test open cursor count,
after killing the SID (227) on which the open cursor count was getting increase, it APEX automatically switches to new SID(149) for that session.
Now the problem is even if I have two SID's and one hits the maximum open cursor count, It is not switching to other SID instead the whole application becomes unavailable.
STATNAME SID VALUE USER

Cold backup of controlfile raw device
We have Oracle 9.2.0.4 on AIX 5L on node 1 and node3 with controlfile as raw device. These two nodes are connected through LAN. I shutdown the database DB on node1 and take the backp of controlfile in /ora/backup on node1 usind dd command. I mput this file in binary mode on node3 over ftp. On node3 when I tried to mount the database using this controlfile it gave error
"ora-0201- controlfile version incompatible with oracle version."
In alert log it showed the message

What can be the exact problem?? Any hlep.Why are you mounting or doing this ? I think databases on node1 and node3 are not the same. Controlfile of a database cannot be used to mount a different database.

How to add a disk to a VM in order to be seen as a raw device?
I am running Hyper-V in Windows 8.1 Pro with Oracle Linux installed in the VM. I am running in the Linux VM an Oracle database (for testing purposes). I want to add a SSD which is seen as a raw device by the VM. Is this possible? How?
As far as I understand in order to assign devices to a VM you need Vt-d, which must be supported by the CPU (i7-4771), motherboard (Intel DQ87PG) and by the hypervisor. Is this
correct? The CPU and the mobo both are supporting Vt-d last time I checked.
Thanks,
