Re: £30.00 charge to cancel Broadband, switching t...

We have just received our final bill from BT which has this £30.00 charge.
This activity is illegal.  We have changed our provider to Virgin Media.
No MAC code or transfer method is applicable, as a completely different line is used.  If the BT connection were used, then of course the charge could be made, but a Virgin line (using their cable system) is a completely different infrastructure.
Therefore the broadband was NOT transferred, it was simply cancelled.  Further proof, if anyone needs it is to think that both a BT line AND a Virgin Media line can be running at the same time; they could be a 100 miles apart or right next to each other, they are completely different.
By applying this charge where none should be, BT are committing fraud.  If they continue to try this with customers, it is an attempt to obtain money by deception.

As you have totally cancelled your broadband the cease charge applies (£30).
This applies to all ISP's and is a charge placed on them, and therefore passed to you.
If you were transferring your broadband then you should use a MAC code, this would then ensure a smooth transfer withoput the cease charge.
As it is in Bt's (and I'm sure all other ISP's T&C) it cannot be classed as fraud.

  • Am I being unfairly charged £30 pounds for switchi...

Hello, could someone clarify this for me please?
I am in the process of switchine Line Rental and Broadband to another provider (only because BT cannot match their offer for equal service/usage, not because I have been unhappy about the service provided).
I am not in contract with BT anymore, but I am being charged £30, just for switching provider. When I called BT, they said that this was a charge every provider will ask for, but I checked with the new company, and they know nothing about this. They also said that it was Openreach, therefore not a problem BT can look at. On the Open reach website, they send me back to BT to deal with any billing problems, as they only deal with physical problems on the lines.
I have also found a link about cancelling broadband with BT and it states:
(search 'Cancellation' in search bar, then click on 'I don't understand my final bill' )
    - Your final bill will include usage charges, plus rental up to the date the line stopped.
If you're still in contract you may also have a cancellation charge. -
Now, there is no mention of a £30 charge for switching...
Moreover, I cannot find any mention to it anywhere...
I feel like BT is unfairlry charging me and trying to get a few pounds more out of me... I have had no issues with BT before, and really wouldn't want to leave with a bitter taste...
Has anyone had that issue? Can anyone clarify this to me?
    Thank you for any help.

Now, I have called them about a MAC Code, which they kindly gave me on the spot. I immediately passed it to my new provider. The person I spoke to from BT NEVER mentionned that that charged was waived off if a MAC code is requested!
I can't help feeling robbed!!! Less and less pleased with BT...
If you requested a MAC code and used it there should not be a £30 charge  to BT your ISP to pass on to you.
If on the other hand you cancelled your broadband then a £30 charge would be applied for the work to disconnect at the exchange.
The charge would apply if you were moving to a cable provider. Which is clearly stated in the cease charges.
if you have had a £30 charge and you believe you should not have(you used a MAC) then I can only suggest you contact the mods.
If you fill in this form: http://bt.custhelp.com/app/contact_email/c/4951 with a link back to your post for ref, the mods will get back to you. it can take up to 3 days.

  • Cancelling Broadband Account Then Adding to Phone ...

    Hi,
    Situation:
My Father has a BT account for just phone. I have a BT account for just Broadband. We decided we would rather have just one account to both make savings due to the package deals and to add bt sport for free.
We both live at the same address. I tried going through the process of having the accounts merged but as the accounts are for different people this was unsuccessful.
It was suggested I cancel my broadband then my father then adds it to his account. I understand there will be a small charge for cancelling my broadband, I'm fine with this.
    Question:
If I was to action the above will there be a period of time in the process that I may be without broadband, due to cancelling and then signing up again. I only ask as I work from home frequently and utilize the broadband for this. It would therefore require some planning.
    Regards,
    Craig

I would suggest for now  then that your Father has a phone + BB account, you establish a sub account with your email address on that account whilst at that address.
If/when you move; set up your own phone + BB account, but just before you do, delete your sub-account from your Fathers account  and then use your sub account ID details as your Primary user ID on your own phone + BB account to save loss of email address.
The two a/c's will then be established with you and your Father as the Primary account holder without [your] loss of email address.

  • Cancel Broadband Talk

After receiving an email advising of the Broadband Talk changes.
If you want to cancel Broadband Talk.
Just go to bt.com/bbtalkcancel Have your bill to hand because you'll need a few details from it. We'll do the rest – we'll stop your Broadband Talk service and we won't charge you for it. You'll keep your BT Broadband, your Home Hub and any other BT lines you have.
We went to bt.com/bbtalkcancel only to find it doesn't work and with an error message.
All we want to do is cancel BB Talk we don't have an account for it as we never used it. It was part of the package we upgraded to last time.
How can we cancel it on line we want to avoid hanging on the phone trying to get through to the right person as has happened in the past.

    Yes well spotted Ectophile
I would gladly have paid the £3.50 a month to keep BB Talk as this would have far outweighed the hassle that I've had since losing it, not to mention the by now familiar quip "We tried to ring you but your phone wasnt working"
In that scenario, the product replacement for BB Talk [if that what it is] BT Smart Talk has been a non-player

Assuming you are disconnecting from line power, when you say switched on, do you mean it was shutdown or in sleep mode?  If sleep mode the battery will still drain because sleep still keeps some things active and the battery does drain a little.  However, to go from 100% to 79% charge overnight is a bit excessive in sleep mode.  Unless you have some processes set to activate over night by the cron file and do things like backup the system.

  • New charge may see broadband users charged to even...

New charge may see broadband users charged to even look for a fault regardless of if it is found to be in  your home or on BT's wires.
    Check below.
    http://www.thinkbroadband.com/news/4136-new-charge-may-see-broadband-users-charged-to-even-look-for-...

Just a note about the sockets - openreach ( the engineers ) are only responsible for looking after the external network and any fault on the external network is there responsibilities. Any wiring inside is the responsibility of the householder and therefore are liable for charges if any work is carried out in the home. The first point of call should always be your service provider to get them to run a line test for any problems on the line. If there faults department can't find a fault it is most likely inside that there is a problem and a local electrician is always cheaper than an openreach engineer.
    hope this helps

Have you tried a soft-reset to see if that gets the iPad to turn on and/or to charge ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds, after which the Apple logo will hopefully appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Charged for canceling service in first 30 days

Hi, all. In short: I cancelled my Comcast service within the first thirty days of a new plan.  I was told that I wouldn't owe anything if I cancelled within that time, not even termination fees.  However, Comcast is charging me over $40 for that month.  I need to know how to put a stop to that, or else they threaten to ruin my credit history by sending negative reports to the credit bureaus. Recently I changed from an old (non-promotional) plan on Comcast to a new one.  I did so in order to get a reduction in price from $155 per month.  The new plan gave me only a reduction of $15 per month and I was forced to take telephone service as well.  I was told I had thirty days to cancel the service without penalty.  I wouldn't be required to pay anything for those thirty days if I cancelled within that period as well. Comcast claims that I digitally signed an agreement to this effect online.  However, I only remember accepting some terms about E911 related to the phone service. In order to get me the new plan, the Comcast service tech had to sign me up for additional services, because she couldn't get her system to accept the plan as we discussed it.  The additional services pushed the monthly amount to around $190 per month.   I was told that I could cancel them later. A couple of days later, when I received confirmation of those additional services, I contacted Comcast again to cancel those services.  It took some time, but the technician got the job done. Over the period of the following thirty days, I found a better service provider for TV and Internet, so I switched to that and called Comcast to cancel my service.  I told the tech. on the phone that I was told I could cancel free of charge.  She disagreed.  After much arguing, she finally relented and said that I would probably get a refund check. Last week, I finally received a letter from Comcast, with a bill for over $40.  I think this is unfair and I need to get it stopped.  When I try to call them, they put me on hold for very long periods of time, then the technicians don't have access to my account history to verify my story.  I have chat transcripts of the conversations about the plan, but they're unable to accept the transcript files from me.  I think it's very convenient that the Comcast techs will say anything online or on the phone and claim to have transcripts or recordings of these communications, however, whenever I ask for something in my favor, the evidence mysteriously disappears.

Shafting the customer is in their business plan.  They hope that you will get so frustrated that you will just give in.  Better to just do what millions around the country are doing....cut the cord and go with just internet service only.  50Mbps is all you need to stream HD content and buy your own modem which will pay for itself in 9 months vs. Comcast's ridiculous rental fees.  $10/month for Hulu and about the same for Netflix.  You still get most of the content you're looking for without all the fees and headaches.  Good luck!

  • BT charging for cancelled BB Talk

I cancelled the BB Talk service in December 2013 and I have a confirmation email of the fact.
In February BT charged me £3.50 for the service which was refunded after phoning to query it.
The same charge has been on every bill since including the latest which went live today despite BT assuring me that the service has been removed from my account.
I have made two phone calls and one live chat to try and resolve this (I have the transcript), but nobody seems to be capable of removing this incorrect charge/service.
I have repeatedly tried to cancel it myself via the on-line link, but it just says it cannot continue with the cancellation, presumably because I do not have the service!
I would be grateful if somebody can recommend a number to call where I'm likely to get some success sorting this out. The Indian call centre have been very, very poor and in one case very unprofessional. Live chat is obviously no better.
At the moment I am faced with phoning each month to get a refund with no options to stop it happening again.
    Thanks for any help.
