Re-assign automation data

Would anybody know a quick way of re-assigning automation data, for instance from volume information to filter up and down?

Nothing personal meant here, on the contrary, thanks are always much appreciated. And though it is in the manual, that doesn't mean you will find it easily (especially if you use the hard copy only).
BTW, RTMMH is my polite alternative to RTFM.
(Reading The Manual Might Help)

  • Hi! How do I switch existing automation data for one parameter to another?

Hello! I am new to Logic 8, and actually to using the Logic automation feature. Here is the deal: I have some old-school Logic event data that I recorded as a kind of automation (before the current kind of dedicated automation) for an EXS24 parameter. I need to change this event 'automation' to actual Logic automation, as Logic 8 does not read it (as Logic 7 did before it). So, I highlighted all of the events in my old-school 'automation' region in the event list. I had to change the number value to a common number assignment so that I could Change Selected Event Data into Track Automation. I selected volume (number seven, I believe), and than highlighted all events, clicked on the event region, than went to options and selected my desired automation transformation destination (say that three times fast). Great! I have my region as automation! Logic 8 knows what to do with this! But, it is volume. I need it to control the LFO 2 Rate of the EXS24. Problem is, that when I switch the automation parameter from Volume to LFO 2 Rate, the automation disappears. It seems as though that automation data is only for Volume. So, how might a charming gentleman, such as myself, go about keeping/converting the same automation, but for the parameter I want to change it to?
    Thanks! =)

Hold "command" when switching between automation parameters.
Then you will get a dialog offering you the option to convert the existing parameter's data into the destination parameter, or "copy and convert" (which does the same but leaves the existing volume automation data intact.)

  • Moving and Copying/Pasting Track Automation Data

    Hello,
I am a fan of using track automation data to control the volume levels on the faders of my Audio Instrument tracks. I am NOT using the track automation assigned to regions, I am using the ones assigned to tracks. If I move a region, however, the automation data (not surprisingly) does not move with the track. What is the easiest way to move automation data on a track? Is there a way to shift all automation data over a specified amount of measures etc?
Furthermore, I would like to copy ALL of the track automation on one track, and move it to another track (and keep the relative distance between all nodes, etc equal). How can I do this?
    Thank you very much,

I think you need to shift-drag select (rubber band select) the
automation stuff and when it's highlighted, hold option, click hold
drag and what you selected will be copied to the new location you
drag it to. You need to be pretty careful to option click hold
exactly on the automation line, if you miss it won't invoke the copy

  • Programmatically Assign Published Data to Variable

is there anyway to assign published data to a variable programmatically in powershell? - in other words without right-clicking and selecting "Subscribe->Published Data" .

We are composing a runbook that queries a database for "events" - this data is published.   Associated with each event is a runbook name(an automation to perform for the event).  With the runbook name, we query another table in db for all
data associated with the runbook.  Some of the data in the runbook table are parameter names and values.  The values can be either the actual data needed to run the runbook (e.g "SOMEHOSTNAME") or a field name (e.g. @Node) (taken from the
"event's" row in the first query) where the field's value would be used as a parameter's value passed to the runbook.   Before calling the Web Service to start the runbook, the parameters must be set.   If the parameter's value is
the actual value needed, then it is used.   If it is a field name, the published data must be used.  I would prefer not to have a long list of conditions for every possible field that could be used(see below)
     if($fieldName -eq "@Node"){
$newValue = 'right click for published data'
     }elseif($fieldName -eq "@IPAddress"){
$newValue = 'right click for published data'
but rather, evaluate the variable to see if it has a field in it and extract the fieldname and dynamically assign the value from the published data:
    if($fieldName -match "^@(.*)"){
$newValue = (call some code with $matches[1] to retrieve published data)
In short, cosolidating all possible "if" statements into one.

  • Edit Automation data

    Greetings Logic-o-philes,
Is there a way to move track automation data; volume for instance, created on several tracks, all at once?
    Thank you,

What you want to do is access Logic's Automation folder. For some typically stupid Apple reasoning, easy access to this folder was eliminated in version 7. But you can still get to it...
Open the Automation Event list. This is only accessable via a key command, so you may need to create one. Open your key commands window, and in the search field, type in "automation".
Find "Automation Event Edit", and assign a key command to it.
Once you open the Automation Event Edit list (via your new key command). With the Event list open, go up to the windows menu and open "Arrange".
A new Arrange page will open, but on this arrange page, you are looking at all your automation data, in the form of regions, just like you see with MIDI and audio regions, on the main arrange page.
Within this Automation arrange page, you can cut, move, drag, etc... automation data, just like you do with audio nad MIDI regions.
So if you need to copy, say, volume automation on tracks 6 , 7 and 8, from bars 1 through 16, to bars 30 through 46, simply select the automation regions on those tracks, and option/drag them to the proper location.
Tip... merge the automation regions per track, once they are copied.
You may also need to disable automation view, and then re-enable it, when you go back to your main arrange page, to visabliy see the changes.
Tip #2.... save this automation arrange page as a screenset. So from this day on, when you want to copy/move automation, you're a screenset away from it.

  • Automation Data in Logic 8

    Hi,
I apologise if this answer has been given ad nauseum ad infinitum in advance, but I am wondering how do I copy automation data along with a section of audio/midi? Moving it is easy enough but copying that data and pasting it at a particular point isn't as intuitive for some wierd reason. Once again, sorry.

If you option+drag a region Logic will ask you wether you want to copy the automation or not, if you want that. In the Preferences->Automation at the top you have three options: Always/Never/Ask

  • Assigning a Data Source to a Chart via JavaScript

    Dear all,
Is it possible to assign a Data Source to a Chart via coding ?
    something like :
    CHART_1.setDataSource ...
    Many thanks
    Hans

I ran into the same problem.  You can't dynamically switch DataSources for a chart, however, you can re-assign a DataSource to a different query.
    I have a chart assigned to DS_1:
On startup, I need to check a flag, and use a different query based on the value of the flag.
Since I can't dynamically switch the DataSource for the chart, I simply switch the query that feeds the DataSource like this:
    I hope this helps.

  • "Move Current Track Automation Data to Region" doesn't work for all

I have been using the 'Move Current Track Automation Data to Region' and while it works fine for some types of automation data like channel volume, pan and some plugin parameters, it doesn't work for all of them.
I haven't done exhaustive research into which parameters work and which don't, but most of the parameters for individual voices within Ultrabeat don't - which is annoying as that is what I was trying to use it for.
Any ideas about this, or workarounds?

OK, well an update on this in case anyone's interested.
With some further experimentation I have discovered that this problem did not exist in Logic 7 - ie you can move current track automation data for individual Ultrabeat voices to the region.
It's also possible to move automation data for individual Ultrabeat voices using 'Move All Track Automation Data to Region,' so I suppose this is a kind of workaround, though it can be annoying if you don't want to move all track automation data.
I'm now assuming this is a bug in Logic 8; is there any way to convert a Logic 8 project to work in Logic 7, as this along with the touch tracks bug is making working in Logic 8 very frustrating?

  • Insert or Cut Time and move automation data - how to do it?

Hi when I cut or insert time it moves the regions but not the automation data. I have tried switching nn 'move automation with regions' but it doesn't move the automation that goes past the end f regions eg plug in settings like delay feedbacks etc.
    a) this seems to me to be really crazy - why if you had done a lot of detailed automation programming at the end of a song would you not want it to move if you cut 4 bars from earlier on in the song?
    any ideas appreciated very much!!
    best

after using logic for years I have discovered a new bit and something very weird.
    New Bit:
As well as Cut/Insert Time in the Region Menu
there is a Cut/Insert Time in the Edit menu.
    if I start here:
    http://www.applebananacarrot.com/downloads/pre.jpg
if I do the region Cut ( from the region menu on the arrange window):
look what happens to the automation data on track 21
    http://www.applebananacarrot.com/downloads/postregioncut.jpg (track 21 data didn't move)
and compare it to this one doing everything else the same but using the Cut from the main logic edit menu.
http://www.applebananacarrot.com/downloads/posteditcut.jpg Track 21 automation data did move.
    That to me seems wrong....
    whaddya think?

  • Oracle how to assign a date value in a parameter declaration

How can I assign a date value to a parameter declaration in SQL?
    Here's my existing script.
    CURRENT:
select distinct summary as "iCash EAD Error Summary",count(*)
    from AAA.BKS_ICASH_EAD_ERRORS
    where creation_date > to_date('5/26/12 8:50','mm/dd/yy HH24:MI')
    group by summary
I'd like to assign the date I'm searching for into a parameter and use the parameter in my query.
    GOAL:
    DECLARE
    pCreateDate DATE;
    exec :pCreateDate := '5/26/12 8:50';
select distinct summary as "iCash EAD Error Summary",count(*)
    from AAA.BKS_ICASH_EAD_ERRORS
    where creation_date > to_date(:pCreateDate,'mm/dd/yy HH24:MI')
    group by summary

    Hi,
In SQL*Plus, you can do this:
    VARIABLE     pcreatdate     VARCHAR2 (20)
    EXEC           :pcreatedate := '5/26/12 8:50';
SELECT    summary          AS "iCash EAD Error Summary"
,       COUNT (*)          AS "Total Count"
    FROM        aaa.bks_icash_ead_errors
    WHERE       creation_date  > TO_DATE (:pcreatedate, 'MM/DD/RRRR HH24:MI')
    GROUP BY  summary
;"GROUP BY summary" means you'll get one output row for each distinct value of summary. There's no need to SELECT DISTINCT since the GROUP BY is already making sure the rows are distinct.
There are no DATE bind variables in SQL*Plus, so you have to use a VARCHAR2.
If you do something similar in PL/SQL, then you can use a DATE variable. Make sure you don't call TO_DATE on something that's already a DATE.

  • Copy/paste automation data in audio regions

    Hi,
A dumb question but I'm having trouble figuring out...how do I copy and paste automation data in audio regions? When I copy and paste an audio region I like, it pastes down the selected region but without the automation data with it. I've been rewriting the automation data every time to the newly-pasted region but I'm sure there's a simple way to do this. I've looked through the various help files but still am struggling to find the procedure. Any advice is welcome and thank you.
    Respectfully,

OK, for viewers of this topic I figured this out myself. There are two lines in the reference manual that pertain but even they were a little confusing. They read:
"Option - long clicking on a selection allows you to copy the selection." p.234
I had success by using the pointer tool and selecting the automation data within the region by holding shift+dragging the mouse over the target data. The data highlights white. Then with the pointer tip on a line of the selected data, holding option+long clicking the selection AND dragging the data while still holding the option key I was able to drag and drop the automation data to a new region in the track. That got me "in the ball park" so to speak but fine tuning the actual drop was necessary to assure precise nodal location. That can be done node by node or better by dragging the entire automation selection as a loop edit.

  • Move automation data  at same time  in differenct tracks?

hi , anyone here can give me some sugesstion ?
I want to move the automation data in different track at same time but i cannot find how to make it .
I have 7 tracks all written automation volumn data , and now I want to move them all 3 db down in some bars, it seems that i must move the automation one by one ?
    Thanks!

Unfortunately Logic doesn't yet have a trim or update mode, otherwise you could do it by using the group function on the fader channels, and using a fader movement.
What?! Really? My copy of Logic is on its way; I'm switching from SONAR and that's basically how I mix. Volume envelopes on tracks deal with automation along a track, then the track volume slider acts as an offset to those envelope-controlled volume changes, when it comes to mixing tracks together, and I realise that the whole vocal track, say, needs to be 3dB quieter just to start mixing...
So, how best to achieve this in Logic then? Do I have to route tracks to busses and mix from there? Essentially duplicating my tracks in bus-form seems like a bit of an unnecessary step! Any helpful suggestions will be welcome, but please don't flame me. I'm sure I'll be able to figure out a new workflow once I get my hands on Logic and start using it myself!

  • One data source and assign multiple data target in BI?

    Hi all,
Is it  possible is to assign one data source to multiple data targets in BI? Not like  in BW 3.X ; one data source can assign only one Info source. I am bit confused about it, let me know about this ?
    Regards.
    hari

Okay, I must have misunderstood your message, I was thinking BI 7 and data targets .. like cubes and DSO's.
In 3.x, assign your datasource to a single infosource.  Then assign that infosource to multiple data targets by creating update rules and assigning your infosource to each/all of them.
In this way, you shouldn't need multiple infosources per datasource unless you have a special situation that calls for it.

  • Viewing plugin automation data

    Hi Guys,
I'm using a plugin minimoog as my instrument, and am recording some cutoff frequency sweeps etc. They are recording fine, but I want to go back and edit it manually.
The automation data is appearing as grey bars within the midi region.. but I cant access the data to manipulate it in the hyper view editor, or nothing is appearing in the track automation data either..
    any ideas?
    thanks,
    mike.

Sounds like you're using midi data (which is fine)-select the region and open the event editor it will tell you all events and what exactly their CC#s are-HyEd should then be specified to that CC.
