Re: Caller identification with land line

Hi Paul -
I hope you or someone else can help me - Thanks in advance!
I purchased an unlimited USA calling plan and an online number 2 years ago for my business. At that time i lived and worked in the 609 area code.
I renewed my service and online #, however, I now need my number to appear to be in the 732 area code, as I and my business have moved.
People are very sensitive to the difference between the area codes around here and it wiill affect me and my customer base adversely to not change to a 732 #.
I have poured over all the FAQs and I see nothing addressing changing one's online #.
Please tell me how this can be accomplished?
Must I order a new # and cancel my old one?
I do not wish to have calls transferred to a mobile #, that is not the solution. My skype # needs to be separate.
Thank you!!

  • Unlimited calls to Uk land lines

Hi has anydody else been charged for calls to UK land lines when theya re supposed to be free, this happened on our latest bill and even though we registered a complaint the billing advisor could not explain how it had happened and we are still awaiting a response from BT to the complaint, we were overcharged £68 which is sitting in BTs account gaining interest, if this is common practice they aredefrauding their customers out of a lot of money.

    Hi,
It's probably easier to contact the mods who should be able to sort the issue.

Can I set up caller identification with the regular landline in the UK? I've tried it and It says it's sending me an SMS but then nothing happens

Hi, coachrw, and welcome to the Community, Not that I am aware of.  Caller ID numbers on Skype can be either a Skype Number or a verified mobile number, such verification process for a mobile number requiring an SMS message.  Please contact Skype Customer Service if you still do not receive the SMS verification to your mobile number. Regards,Elaine

  • Skype calls from a land line

Can an international land line call me on skype? If so how do I get a skype number, and is there a charge for me to receive the call?

Hi, Annikamalone, and welcome to the Community,
Yes, anyone calling you via your Skype Number would be able to reach you regardless of whether they were calling from either a fixed line or a mobile number.
You would not be charged to receive a call on your Skype Number; however, your callers would be (toll charges, and so on).

  • Calling mobiles and land lines from S. Korea to US...

I am currently deployed to S. Korea and I want to use my mobile phone with the Skype app and my laptop to call home should I buy the unlimited US plan or the unlimited world plan? Also what if someone in S. Korea calls my skype number in Korea would that be covered? Please help me!

    Hi,
The main thing is that your plan covers calls to US. So if you are planning to call mainly or only to US, then you don't need the Unlimited World subscription, he Unlimited US will be enough.
If you are planning to buy an Online Number, then receiving calls to your Online Number does not cost anything to you.

    HI,

I am current on all of my updates but for some reason around AUgust 8th or the wek of I have not been able to get voice messages from my forwarded calls. The land line will forward to my cell and my cell will ring but it does not roll into my voice mail. I have been on the phone with Verizon who sent me to Apple who sent me back to Verizon. • Skype for Business to land line

    Hi,
Here is a quick question. I understand I can call USA/Canada land lines for free via Skype consumer, but how does it work using Skype for business? Are those calls also free? where can I find rates for other countries?
    cheers

    Just to add to this:
If it's just the UI you can also set this through Set-CsClientPolicy.
    Set-CsClientPolicy -Identity Global -EnableSkypeUI $false
    https://technet.microsoft.com/library/dn954919.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396
However, using this method, some things are still Skype branded (i.e the meeting add-in in Outlook will say "New Skype Meeting") but the UI will now be back at Lync 2013.

Hi, I live in Canada and set up a Skype Number locates in HongKong to make my friends call me more easily. But soon I found that I could not identify who is the caller when someone is calling my Skype Number.
    For instant,
When I log off the Skype App and use "Call Forward" function of Skype, if someone calls my HK's Skype Number, it always displays "+10000123456" and I cannot know who is the caller except I pickup the phone.
While if I run the Skype App in the backgourd of my cell phone, and someone calls my Skype Number, the skype app will pop up but only shows "Unknow Number"
Could you give me some advice to solve this problem?
    Thanks

There may not be much that can be done.  Caller ID from the telephone network to your Skype Number is controlled by the telephone carrier(s) where your Skype Number is located (Hong Kong). Not all carriers in all countries send Caller ID information to the Skype Number.  When your friends in Hong Kong call each other on their phones, do they see the Caller ID information on those calls?  This may not help your situation when receiving calls on your Skype number, but would at least verify that your friends' phones are sending the Caller ID information out when they call someone.
    Good luck!

  • When I press on a land line number, the phone does not call the number, but comes up with a screen to send a text to it.  How do I get my phone to default to phoneing a landline?

When I press on a land line number, the phone does not call the number, but comes up with a screen to send a text to it.  How do I get my phone to default to phoneing a landline?  When I press a mobile number in contacts, the phone automatically phones the number.  I do not mind this as I hardly ever send texts, but I would like to have the option of what to do.  This seems such an obvious issue but I can not solve it even with much web searching.  Thanks!

I can't delete my question, so I'll just say that you press on the type of number written in the box to the left of the box you typye the number into.  Dumb or what?

  • STRANGER GETS MY LAND LINE NUMBER FROM MY IPHONE CALL

Using my iPhone, I called a stranger in error.  He answered, whereby I realized my mistake.  Instead of being courteous, as I should have been, and saying, "Sorry, wrong number," I simply hung up.  This apparently upset him, because he subsequently called my land line and left a threatening message, telling me never to call again.  So, hmmm, how did he get my land line number?  I'm guessing because it showed up, on his end, when I initially called him with my iPhone.  It was associated with or attached to my iPhone number.  I know that when a certain relative calls me, more than one of her numbers shows up on my call-back notification.
What do I do to prevent this?  I must be able to control and limit the information about me that people I call can get.

There's absolutely no way your land line # was transmitted as CID when calling from your iPhone.  If this person found out your land line #, he looked it up based on the name and/or cell # of your iPhone.
The only way he could have your land line show when you called his cell phone is if he already has your full contact info in his phone, including  your land line - i.e. you are already known to him.
To avoid this in the future:
    1. Disable caller id:  Settings > Phone > Show My Caller ID > OFF
    2. If you don't want to do that, have your carrier transmit only your cell # without your name.  Your name can still be researched, but usually require payment
    3. Get an unlisted land line phone.
    4. Research all the things that can be done with a baseball bat.

  • While I was talking via land line to land line with a friend they recieved text message from my iphone that I did not send. How is that possible?

I repeat.  While I was talking via land line to land line with a friend they began recieving text messages from my Iphone that I did not send.  I am in the middle east and I was calling a land line in Mexico but that should not have mattered.  Moreover, the person I was speaking to told me they had gotten other text messages from me that know I never sent.   I called my phone company (AT&T) and was told the problem was not with the system but with my Iphone.  They suggested someone was using app that mimicked my phone number.   Is such a think possible?

In addition to my iphone I have an itouch.  I only just today created an appleID so that I could use this message board so it seems unlikely that the problem is the result of a misused ID

  • Skype drops calls to land lines and mobiles

I have enough credit but cannot call landlines or mobiles -
it does not dial but simply stops with "Call Failed" before getting through
Even if I cann my own mobile or landline - so I know they ARE valid numbers
The problem seems to have been introduced with the new version 7.4.0.102
    Any ideas please?

Your account logs show that there are connection issues and this is why calls are dropped. Please make sure you have the latest Skype and if possible try to make a call with different connection. For example if you are using public WiFi or 3G connection then try to use cable connection.

  • I want my land line, home phone as my caller ID, h...

This is 2012.  I'm out of work and money.  I only have a home phone with local service only.  I have to use Skype for my 1 or 2 long distance calls per month.  I'd like my home phone to be my caller ID.  I can't receive txt messages that way, but I'd at least have a return number for those to see who it is.  Everyone on the internet from google, youtube and "you name it", wants a cell phone number and I can't even afford anything, whether it's a cell phone or an "unused" extra number for a fee.  I can't tell you how frustrating it is to have businesses hang up on me because they think they are being pranked because of what they see on their screens when I call.  In Los Angeles, two miles from my house can be a long distance call.  Please Help those of us that are sincerely poor!!!!  It would only take you 2 seconds longer to call my house for me to verify my land line.  I would even be happy if you only did it for me.  Please quit being so greedy and realize some of us are at "Rock bottom".  In other words,  no matter what, I'm not paying for anything else.  Even though I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place, not one more penny is being spent on anything.  I have none.  I already possess a return number and I'd like to use that one.

I have the same question for a different reason. Your text implies that we can use our land line numbers for Caller ID but the implementation doesn't allow it. Why not? i have a cell phone but don't want most people knowing or using it because it's rarely on and each call is separately charged. I want any callbacks to be on my land line. How do I make Caller ID show my land line number?

Issue: Caller ID setup for a LAND LINE, which can NOT receive a mobile SMS text to verify it.
The office phone (land line) I need to setup as the Caller ID for outbound Skype calls is not able to receive mobile text messages your automated verification system is sending to verify it.  I do recall there was a process in place that the verification system would actually call the phone number and I would then input a code provided from Skype's Verification page.
    Thank you in advance.

I just checked this for myself.  Unfortunately, there is no option for Skype to use a landline number for the Caller ID with a Skype account.  You can use an Online Number from certain countries (i.e., USA and UK are two countries where an Online Number can be used for Caller ID) or a mobile phone.
I have been on Skype for over 4 years, and have never seen the option to use a landline number for Caller ID with a Skype account.  It may have been in place further in the past, but not anymore.
