Re-pairing Mighty Mouse after every battery change.

Do I really have to do this every time, because it's driving me nuts. I dread the battery dying because it means I have to go dig out an old corded mouse, plug it in, slog through the pairing wizard, then finally continue my work. Why do I not have to do this with either of my wireless keyboards?

Hello,
You should not have to re-pair your wireless devices after changing the batteries. Next time you replace the batteries in your Mighty Mouse, set the mouse down on the mouse pad, give it a second or two to connect wirelessly and then move it to see if the cursor tracks. If the device is listed as connected in the Bluetooth menu, then it should work.
Also, make sure the Bluetooth icon is displayed in your Status Menu Bar. System Preferences/Bluetooth. Bottom left hand corner of that window, click Show Bluetooth status in the menu bar. You'll be able to always see which "devices" are connected.
And it's very important to keep the MMouse clean. How to Clean Your Mighty Mouse
You can also try deleting the Bluetooth preference file. com.apple.Bluetooth.plist
/Users/YourName/Library/Preferences. Drag that file from the Preferences folder to the Trash, empty the Trash and reboot.

  • 30 Minutes to Pair Magic Mouse after Routine Battery Changes

Every month I have to replace the batteries in the Magic Mouse. After putting in the new ones and turning the mouse on, I have to try various methods for the mouse to pair with my iMac. Shouldn't it just pair instantly? I feel like im having to try way to many tricks to get them to pair. Such as turning the mouse on and off, sleeping the computer etc.

One would hope it could, but I've had that type of trouble myself. I don't have a complete answer for you, but one thing I do in this situation is to attach a wired mouse or trackball temporarily and use it to select the "Connect" item under the Bluetooth menu bar item.

  • Cannot detect Mighty mouse after waken from Sleep

If i wake my book from sleep, the bluetooth app will not be able to detect the might mouse. And I also cannot switch off the blue tooth app at that time. I was trying to restart the bluetooth assistant but it fails.
Any of you has such problem ?

all I can say is, you are not alone. I've got the same problem just as many other with my BT Mighty Mouse and BT Keyboard.

  • White screen after every battery recharge

For the past couple of weeks, every time I recharge my battery, the next time I turn on my Zen, I get a white screen. I have used different computers and used "safely remove hardware" and the result
    Is always the same.
My firmware is up to date. I have to do a clean up and reboot each time.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

UPDATE: I found a much better solution to my white-screen problems. It's easy to correct (until powering off-and-on again) using the Hold/Power switch, and the Play/Pause button. However, it appears that you must first be able to get music playing. This is how it works:
    . Fully charge the unit.
    2. Get a song to play.
    3. Lock the device by moving the Hold/Power switch up.
    4. Wait for the screen to blank to black, and then also wait about an ADDITIONAL 25 seconds after the screen blanks.
    5. While holding the Play/Pause button down, move the Hold/Power switch out of the lock-mode, and all the way down (like you're turning it off).
    6. Release the Play/Pause button.
This always restores my screen until I power the Zen off-and-on again. This white-screen-problem only began after updating the firmware from .2.0 to .2.03. I have requested Creative to provide me a file to restore my firmware to .2.0 (which did not have this white-screen-problem). You can see a demonstration of this method of fixing some white-screen-problems at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8g0sh7pc54

  • Mighty Mouse Problems - right click and battery changing

So I am on my second Mighty Mouse after the first one completely stopped working one day. Took it in to Apple and they gave me a new one.
This new one generally works ok (although right click fails every few days) but when I change the batteries and turn it back on the computer doesn't find it. I have to plug in my old Logitch and discover the Mighty Mouse and pair it again using the Logitech to control the cursor.
Then this morning the Mighty Mouse left click button stopped working so I turned it off and on again and once again, the computer didnt recognise the mouse and I had to go through the whole discovering and pairing process again using my other mouse.
Any ideas - I have checked the Bluetooth preferences and cant seen anything that I should be checking - it says my mouse is paired, connected and discoverable.
Any ideas or are Mighty Mouses just an ordinary piece of hardware - my experience so far has been ordinary!
    By the way - I have a new (December 07) 24inch iMac and 10.5.2

    Hey,
I just talked to German Apple telephone support. They fixed the problem for me! With fresh  installs of 10.7.5 the problem is that two files are missing that are needed for the mouse. In my case I could get them from another computer I own that ran Lion and did have the files. To get to the files you need do this:
    Go to
    /System/Library/LoginPlugins/BezelServices.loginPlugin
control-click that file and choose "show contents"
now in the finder window navigate to
    Contents/PlugIns/
In this folder should be two files named
    AppleBluetoothHIDMouse.plist
    and
    AppleHIDMouse.plist
If you don't find these files, you need to get them and put them in.

  • Synching after battery change

I just put a new battery in my ancient, but fully functional m130. I have to run it on an old eMac with OS9.
    My question:
I noticed after the battery change everythign was wiped out on the m130. I am afraid if I synch it will wipe everything out.
How do I synch it so the data in the Palm Desktop on the eMac is put back into the m130?
Seems like when I used it when I was teaching that it would synch and update with whatever was the lastest change in data--either the Palm Desktop if I entered data on it last, or the handheld if I entered data last on it.
If that is so, if I entered some new data on teh Desktop, would it then put all the data on the Desktop on the m130 and be back in business?
    Post relates to: Palm m130

  • Mighty Mouse lost it's mind

Like I have done several times in the past, I cleaned the scroll ball of my mighty mouse after experiencing the problem of being unable to scroll up. After unplugging it I simply turned it over and rolled the ball on a clean sheet of paper to get rid of any built up dirt. Quite a bit of dirt came out and when I plugged the mouse back in the scroll ball worked as good as new. Except now I had a new problem. I was unable to left or right click, just the third click worked; ie: using the scroll ball click. Since I had the third click set to open the Dashboard, that's all I could do when I tried to click anything with the mouse. Luckily I have another mouse that I was able to use to go into System Preferences and shut off the third click for the mighty mouse. I then changed the settings for the left & right click and then put them back to original to see if it would help, but it didn't.
Now the bizarre part. After playing around with it a little more I noticed the following behaviors. The left click works only on certain objects. For example, I am able to click on almost anything in the Finder; into a window, on a folder or file, on the dock to open an app, the desktop to un-select a previously selected item. I am able to click on the resize control and resize a window, but I can't click on the title bar of a window to move it. I can select things from the left side of the menu bar, like "File" or "Edit", but not from the right side, like spotlight or the volume control. In Safari I can click on links to open up in a new tab but I can't click on the tab to see the page. Also in Safari, or any other application, I can't click on any of the menus. If I am in another application like Safari or TextEdit I can click on a Finder window to make it active but can't click back to the Safari or TextEdit window I just left to make it active again. As for the right click the only thing that seems to work, and only in the Finder, is if I select a file or folder and then right click on it I can edit it's name. I can't get the contextual menus to work even if I use the control key on the keyboard and use a left click. I can't click on buttons in dialog boxes.
I have never seen anything like this before. I would expect it to stop working but not to work on some things and not on others. This thing was working fine just before I cleaned it. It is just baffling and hope that someone can help me out. The one thing I did try was to zap the PRAM, but it did not work.

Since my mouse is out of warranty I decided to open it up and try and figure out the problem. As it turns out my original attempt to clean the mouse basically ruined it. When I rolled the scroll ball over a piece of paper I did it too vigorously. When I opened the mouse and disassembled the scroll ball I found that there was a small gasket under the ball which had a hole in it. Directly under the ball is a small metal tab which I believe is the switch for the scroll ball button. My cleaning attempt pushed the metal tab through the gasket and shorted out the switch, which led to the strange behavior I mentioned in my first post.
Here are some pictures of the damage.
I tried to repair the gasket with some silicone caulk, but even after drying for a couple of days the silicone was too gummy to work well. It made the scroll ball almost impossible to move. The scroll ball button would not work either. At least the left and right click started working again.
I do really miss the scroll ball functionality. It is amazing how used to something you get. I know many people had a lot of complaints with the mighty mouse, but I am not one of them considering that the mouse was original with my almost four year old computer I can't complain too much. It worked well for all that time. I am now wondering whether to buy a new mighty mouse or go for the magic mouse, or maybe even something else if anyone has any suggestions.
So the lesson learned here is, not to be too aggressive with cleaning this mouse. Hopefully this will save someone else the same trouble.
Again, thanks for all the help!!

  • Recognizing wireless Mighty Mouse

I just got my new Macbook, and was so excited to get it up and running that I went through the start-up procedure for it before I'd even opened the box for the wireless Mighty Mouse. But when I read the instructions included with the Mighty Mouse (but not found ANYWHERE in the start-up for the computer itself), I discovered that in order to sync the wireless mouse to the Macbook, I should have turned it on FIRST (put the batteries in and turned it on), in order for the Start-Up Assistant to recognize it when I first started my Macbook. Now I can't get the computer to recognize the mouse! I tried finding the start-up assistant in the applications folder, to run it again, but found nothing that related to synching a wireless mouse. The only other advice I've seen on Mac:Help is to install the software from the CD that "came" with the mouse - only one problem.... there isn't a software CD in the package. I'm not sure if that was obsolete advice, or if I'm legitimately missing a software CD.
What has compounded the problem is my Rogers internet has not been installed yet, so I can only access the internet from work on the eMac here, rather than going to Mac:Help from home with the computer right in front of me.
    Can anybody help?!?

You don't need the CD, which I'm guessing refers to an earlier version. Right now, support is supposed to be built-in to Leopard. The following is Apple's instructions if all else fails, but I think the lower half (starting with System Preferences) is how you're supposed to be able to pair a Wireless Mighty Mouse to your MacBook.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303921
    1. Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.
    2. Choose the Bluetooth pane.
    3. Click the Set Up New Device button.
    4. Follow the instructions to set up the wireless Mighty Mouse.
I got my Wireless Mighty Mouse after I bought my MacBook. I didn't use any start-up assistant, and I think that's only an option right out of the box (or perhaps installing OSX from scratch). I paired it using System Preferences>Bluetooth>Set Up New Device.

  • Mighty mouse right click not working...

    Hi,
I've recently bought my macbook pro in the summer along with a wireless mighty mouse. after working on the computer a while, the right click function stops working! i tried installing the software that comes with the mouse but i get the same results...
    any suggestions?
    thanks in advance!

. Follow the steps for disassembling the MM on many of the web sites until you have the upper shell separated from the base. I found removing the bottom grey ring the easiest method.
    2. Inside the upper shell you will see the plastic backed carbon traces used to detect the finger locations. In the centre of the upper shell is also a copper strip adhered to the shell. The plastic traces and the copper shim have a connection through a carbon dot on the shell where there are two holes next to a black carbon dot. I found that there were two issues with my MM that may have caused my issues. The first was that the plastic detectors were not fully adhered and flat on the inner shell. Then I found that the small carbon button which contacts the copper was not fully pressed down. I ran my finger over the entire internal surface of the shell to press down the adhesive bonded parts and then reassembled the mouse.
    3. Instead of gluing the bottom grey ring back on the mouse, fit it in place with small sections of 3M invisible tape, over the grey ring and upper case, just in case things go awry again. If they're small enough, you won't see them when the mouse in operation and the case remains securely closed. Once you are sure you have no more problems then you can add a dab or two of superglue to permanently close the case at a later date or still have access to clean the scroll mechanism at a later time as well.
The other outcome might be that my disassembly and reassmbly reseated a poorly contacting cable(s) from the base the the upper shell. Either way, I have a fully functioning right click again in all situations. I have not had to remove the batteries in the mouse for over a week now whereas the power reset was becoming an hourly occurrence previously.

  • Mighty Mouse & Trackpad Cannot Work Together in Windows

    Hi,
Anyone know how to solve the above problem?
Everytime I install the driver for the Mighty Mouse (after plugging it in), the trackpad driver re-installs immediately after that and disables the mighty mouse (somehow the driver is still installed but it just doesn't work).
The only way around this has been to cancel the installation of the trackpad driver (but then the trackpad doesn't work!)
    Any ideas?

I use a mighty mouse (wireless) in Vista.
I never installed any drivers for the mouse, and it just works.

  • Mighty Mouse scrollball problems

Hey all, I'm having a few problems with my scrollball on the Mighty Mouse, it keeps refusing to scroll down from time to time. It still scrolls up and sideways, just not down...
It occasionally works sporadically when I forcefully scroll it, but this also brings up the Dashboard window.
Anyone else having the same problem? And quick fixes/solutions without resorting to a new MM?
My mac is under the Apple Protection Plan, so I could get a new mouse if needed, but I don't want to resort to that...

SuperAdam is correct. The oils from your fingers causes the gunk to accummulate. You will need to wipe your Mighty Mouse down every once in awhile.
Once a week I unplug the MM & wipe it down using a damp cloth or paper towel. To remove the gunk from around the scroll nipple, use a plastic tookpick.
Another tip: Unplug your keyboard & run the vacuum hose over your keyboard keys once a week to suck up the dust particles and/or crumbs if you eat around your computer and/or if you have pets (dogs or cats).

  • Mighty Mouse Question (I don't know where else to put this)

I bought a MacBook about two months ago, had some problems, had it replaced, and have loved it ever since.
But now I'm having some trouble with my Mighty Mouse that I bought at the same time as the MacBook. Last night, the scroll bar stopped working. Not completely, but it only will scroll down, and not up. This morning I tried it again, and it didn't work. I also tries using it in my sister's laptop, a PC, and it had the same problem. I'm pretty sure it's a hardware problem, now.
My question is: can I get a replacement, or am I going to have to buy a new one? They're not cheap mice, and it's not like it's old or anything. Also, if anyone has any magical ways to fix it, that'd be appreciated.
    Thanks for your time.

I had the same problem with the Mighty Mouse. After two months of aggravation, my boyfriend took it apart to see what the problem was. It's actually glued together, rather than just snapping back in place. We figured out that the problem was that the ball got dirty (as they all do), but because the Mighty Mouse bottom piece is actually glued to the mouse, we weren't able to put it back together properly, even with glue. So, now the Mighty Mouse (after only two months of use) in the electronic recycling box and we are using a generic mouse. We had wanted to buy a wireless Mighty Mouse (love the placement of the scrolling ball), but if you can't take it apart to clean the rolling ball and it stops working, then it is simply bad design.

  • Mighty Mouse wireless: changing the setting of the low battery indicator

    Hi,
It seems that the low battery indicator for the wireless mighty mouse appears when the battery level goes under 30%. Is it possible to change this setting, e.g. make it occur when it passes the 5% of remaining battery?
    Thanks!

I fully agree with Tibo. I'd like to change this setting as well.
This low battery warning may be a good heads-up for someone who feeds their MM cheap batteries but, I got two Energizer AA Lithium batteries in mine and it literally "keeps going and going..." consistently for weeks while constantly receiving the annoying low battery warning.
Come on, users a perfectly capable of deciding what is fair-warning on the life of batteries we feed the MM.

  • Is there any way to turn the low battery warnings off for my Mighty Mouse?

I noticed a pop-up warning on start-up when my battery life reached two bars for my new wireless Mighty Mouse. Also the battery sign kept on flashing in my menu bar.
I was wondering if there was a way of turning these warnings off, save uninstalling the Apple software, or should I just change batteries and not worry about getting as much use as I can out of my current pair.
I've also turned off "show bluetooth status in menu bar" in mouse preferences but it keeps on turning on at startup and it doesn't seem to get rid of the low battery indicator flashing on and off in the menu anyway.
(And would turning off system events as a login item disable the startup warning?).
    Thanks
    Paul

    Hello Paul:
My own experience is that when the warning pops up (regardless of the yellow bars), you need to change the batteries. In my case I use rechargeable 2500 mAh batteries and an Energizer recharger that charges AA and AAA batteries in 15 minutes.

  • Bluetooth Mighty Mouse battery consumption

I have a Bluetooth Mighty Mouse and have had it for 3 months (Christmas present). Last week, I noticed one bar had disappeared in the mouse battery life window in System Prefs - "wow" I thought "only lost 20% charge in just under 3 months".
However, yesterday, I got a "Low Battery" warning and noticed that only two bars were remaining. A couple of hours later I got a "Critical battery level" warning and only one bar remaining.
I don't use my mouse all that much - probably at most 6 hours per day (in short-ish intervals, turning it off in between) and I can't remember accidentally leaving it on. I'm using it with the two original AA batteries it shipped with.
Is this normal battery consumption? I find it strange that from "Low battery" to "critical battery" would be a couple of hours and that it would suddenly lose almost 50% of its charge in a week.
Do these mice eat AA batteries? Is it a good idea to get some rechargeables to use instead?
    Cheers for the help

    Hello thomasp:
In answer to your question, the battery life of a wireless mouse is mostly dependent on usage. When not in use, the wireless devices go to a very low power mode. IMHO, it is a waste of time to turn mice/KBs off. I would postulate that your experience is about normal.
I use rechargeable batteries (2500 mAh) in all my wireless devices. They do not last quite as long as the Lithium batteries - they have a lower voltage. However, I use an Energizer recharger that recharges batteries in 15 minutes - very little waiting time. In addition to being less expensive in the long run, rechargeable batteries are environmentally friendly! I bought a bunch of them on eBay. By the by, the rechargeables lose some charge every day - even if they are not in use.
