Re: profile reset and speed too slow Again

I have just signed upto BT phone & Broadband, my line was connected on the 29th June 2012. Since then i have nothing but problems. No proper phone line until the 6th of July, thankfuly thats working well now.
Broadband was promised 17meg as im only 380 meters from the exchange, well thats what the engineer told me when installed the line.
I have raised a number of queries with customer support, first one got closed off with out being resolved, so now have raised the same issue again. So now have a new ref number
Problem being i only get 2.6meg download & point 0.83 upload speed, returns the same result which ever speedtest site you use.
I am now going to ask what my profile is & request a new one, I am spending every night on the phone to BT being told different stories.
I was told i will get a call back tomorrow at 4pm to find out if its improved at all, i don't expect a call back. As no one ever does. Im sorry BT when it comes to customer service you fail in every area.
I am in the process of wrinting a letter to your CEO Ian Livingstone to complain the way i have been treated.
If you have any ideas what the issue maybe then please feel free to post something of use, But if you are going to tell me to do a wired connection or reset the router & switch off for minutes & then try again. Please don't bother as ive been there & have a number of T shirts to show for it
Regards
a disgruntled BT customer, who is at the point of being an ex Bt customer.

So are you saying i wll only ever get 2.6meg?

  • Broadband speed very slow (again)

My broadband speed has been very slow for the past week or so, very hard to stream videos, download etc. Broadband download speed is normally around 7-8mbps mark and has been around 1-2 or lower this past week.
    Speed test..
ADSL stats (I think a housemate must have reset the router 2 days ago)..
There are no problems reported at my local exchange.
I already had this same problem in January. It was fixed for a while but now it is really slow again.. https://community.bt.com/t5/ADSL-Copper-Broadband-Speed/Speed-way-way-down-on-normal/td-p/1149716

this is not the same as last time.. last time your speed was down at about 2mb wheras this time you have 11mb connection.
can you run btspeedtester again with wired connection and when first test completes then run diagnostic test and post results

  • This might be a simple question.   On those sites that do not differentiate between models when on the internet I.e. Facebook when after your comment and you cannot hit "enter" on an iPad for examp. And speed is slow to connect.  What is = to post?

This might be a simple question. On those sites that do not differentiate between CRT, laptop, tablet etc. such as an iPad Mini and using the Facebook site fir example when going to post a comment and you do not have a enter button on the IPad and the speed is slow how do you get your comments to post if we do not have a enter button?

  • Logic Pro 8 - same old 'system overload' and 'disk too slow' errors

I am having serious issues with Logic Pro 8 on my macbook pro. I am running it with a Focusrite Saffire LE firewire interface.
I am only using it to playback two stereo files, as a backing track and a click for live performance. I can seem to leave it running all day at home without a problem but when I try and use it in rehearsal it trips up either straight away or half way through a track. It gives either 'disk too slow', 'system overload' or 'unable to sync audio and midi' error messages. This is obviously rendering it unusable. I have tried all the usual tweaks associated with this problem but to no avail.
I am reluctant to believe it is a hardware issue because I have Cubase 5 on the same laptop and that runs like a dream all night without the slightest hiccup. Obviously I have been using that instead.
Having done many internet searches about this it does appear to be a common problem but with no definitive fix.
Did anyone else getting these issues ever fix it?

    Jazzmaniac wrote:
That has nothing to do with logic. If your had disk becomes slow in rehearsals then it's very likely the hard disk acceleration sensor kicking in to protect your drive from damage. Strong vibrations will cause the heads to park, significantly reducing the the seek times and the transfer rates. Jazz
How does that explain the OP's statement:
"I am reluctant to believe it is a hardware issue because I have Cubase 5 on the same laptop and that runs like a dream all night without the slightest hiccup. Obviously I have been using that instead."
I think it has more to do with Logic's disk access and buffering system.
It's true that vibrations can cause data mis-reads as the drive head has to re-read the data, however part of the problem lies with Logic's buffering. I don't think the sudden motion sensor (sms) is kicking in, just that the drive may be having to re-read data and Logic's buffering system can't handle the slight interrupts.
I've dealt with the exact same situation locally (for a client), we ended up using an old bass drum case to make a padded rest for the MBP, that eliminated 90% of the problem.

  • Download and Upload speed too slow...

A friend of mine posted this on his Forum this morning, any thoughts...
My Mac at home is making me pull my hair out, is so slow in internet up and downloads that I can barely tolerate it. It's a late 2012 27" iMac running Yosemite 10.10.2 , 3.2 Ghz Intel Core i5 chip with 32 GB memory, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2048 MB Graphics card. By all accounts it has good hardware. I have been struggling with download speed for two months with this machine. On Verizon FIOS, with the newest Wi-Fi Router and it hangs on downloads all the time. Running Verizon speed tests I get:
    28.3 Mbps download
    43.79 Mbps upload
    9 ms latency
This is in both Ethernet AND Wifi, either way I get the same approximate results each time
Now, I have a new Dell Laptop that is only two weeks old and here's what it does running the same speed test 2 seconds after the iMac is done and at the same spot in the house as the iMac:
    58.12 Mbps download
    82,05 Mbps upload
    11 ms latency
Clearly the new little laptop is running nearly twice as fast. So it has to be either 1) hardware on the iMac, or 2) software on the iMac
To eliminate as many factors as I can, I wiped the hard drive clean on the iMac and did a clean install of the OS (Yosemite). It had no effect on speeds, which was very disappointing. So since there is nothing else I can think of to test, am I wrong to think its the operating system itself? It seemed to run faster on Snow Leopard.....much faster. I'm out of ideas - anyone have anything?

This issue was totally resolved with this week's Yosemite point release.

  • Premiere exports and rendering too slow

I’m using Premier Pro CC on a 2012 MacPro (aluminum box) with 16gigs or RAM.
I have to say that being a long time Avid Media Composer editor I am very, very pleased with the UI and overall capability of Premiere. It’s loaded with tiny nuances that Avid should have incorporated a long time ago. I am in love with this software.
Or at least I was until I went to export my files. What a slog! I’m sorry but the exports are out to lunch. A six minute 1080p 23.976fps sequence with a few titles, a basic colour effect and two tracks of audio takes…. 3 hours?!?!?? What the heck? If I was rendering an equivalent sequence in the Avid I’d be done rendering any effects and exporting a source QT by the time I finished this sentence. And if I set that QT up to encode in Sorenson I’d have my MP4 done by the end of this email. And the Avid doesn’t need to use any external hardware to ramp things up. In addition, just typing this email while Media Encoder pushes through the output (even with Premiere closed) is causing my whole system to slow down to a point that I find my computer basically unusable for anything else. 16 gigs of RAM and 2x six core processors and it’s acting like it’s 1996 running OS7.
Now wait, I hear you say, you can do so much more in Premiere. Yes, I can. But the moment I drop, for example, an After Effect link in there…I can feel the system trying to race glaciers - and losing. What I don’t get is if I were to use the the equivalent clips in After Effects doing the equivalent type of effects the render would be way faster than Premiere --- and it’s the same company! And don’t get me started on Speedgrade. I’m better off doing an oil painting of each frame than using that Dynamic Link function. And teh dynamic links are what encouraged me to try all this in the first place.
Pre-rendering everything is not only awkward but appears to have no effect on the export time - or playback for that matter. In fact I find the rendering of effects rather confusing and horribly inaccurate - both in its estimate of time to go and the number of frames to process. And what is a 'video preview’ anyway -is that the number of clips? Effects?  Effects and clips? Grains of sand on a beach? And why does it’s number keep going up too? It just keeps climbing for no reason I can see. C’mon Premiere…it’s basic math- you count how many frames and then that’s the total number of frames. Why are you recalculating? And did you borrow your time estimate code from Windows 98’s progress bar? One thing it does tell you accurately is how much time you’ve been waiting. That’s handy (not). Oh and I sooooo love the fact that if I quit the rendering process it keeps NOTHING from what it did before. So i have two choices: quit this seemingly endless render to try something else only to find it didn’t help ... or stay put and watch my life drip away into nothingness. Right now, on a second sequence, it says "ETA - 13 seconds left" for, like the LAST 2 hours.
I can’t help but think Premiere is too caught up on render-free editing and it’s glorious Mercury Engine when they should be making it faster & easier to render effects for smoother playback and much faster exports. In my Media Composer I may not have as much robust real time function as I would like but it doesn't choke on the basics (title, colour crrection, dissolves) and the renders are so fast I don't care that I even have to render.
Maybe I’m doing something wrong but I’ll be damned if I know what. And no one else is talking. As I skip around the Google-sphere I’m amazed how many people are posing about speed issues (very common Google search result) and so many other editors are retorting “seems pretty normal to me”. No it ain’t. This is NOT normal. This is painfully slow and in no way reflects the current state of speed for import & exports in NLEs.
I’ve watched every tutorial I could find, picked over every preference, closed every other application, tried different media types, purged every bit of cache and even restarted with no discernible difference. At this stage I’d be thrilled to find out if I’m doing something wrong. But until then I’m afraid this software will not be a regular part of my tool set. This is very disappointing from Premiere given how everything else seems to work so well. Such a shame. This software could kick some serious butt otherwise.
Maybe Premiere will announce that they have a new render engine at NAB?…crossing fingers? Don’t think so.
    ><({(º>

    Thanks for the reply SAFEHARBOR11.
I agree, something isn't right. I've watched tutorials where the renders appear to happen in a "reasonable" amount of time and the numbers of frames and videos prviews never increases. So I don't know what is going on with me.
While I have researched into render/don't render workflow with Premiere I can say I tried both ways only out of desperation.
For my system, a MacPro from 2012, we got only one choice for a video card from Apple - ATI Radeon HD 5870. I tried to get a CUDA enabled card (3rd party) installed but despite tremendous research I could not find something that was authorized to work on my system. At the time I wanted the CUDA to accelerate by Sorenson encoding.
One 2011 post suggested  that my issue was related to corrupt media. They had suggested that I try and isolate the timeline down by testing one section at a time with exports until the exports went from fast to excruciatingly slow. As I was working on multiple sequences without common media between them I had reasoned that the software may not have liked my Sony F5 native media (although it plays it just fine). So I took the time to transcode all my footage and use that instead—  with absolutely no difference. Even if it did make a difference I’d be disappointed because working natively with my media in Premiere was a huge time saver, unlike the Avid which claims to work with native media but really it leaves the system and editing sow & unresponsive so I usually end up transcoding anyway.
My media encoder settings were the template h264 as a Youtube 720p, 23.976 file. Nothing remarkable there. (Although I did  try other settings to see if that affected anything - it didn’t).

  • Broadband Speed too slow for BT's own services.

Hello, I have recently heard that BT Sport has the rights for MotoGP in 2014.
Brilliant, I have BT Broadband, it will be free for me.
Oh wait, the required speed is 400kbps, and my BT provided Broadband is less than half of that speed!
I assume, BT will be upgrading the equipment in my area to enable me to have the required speed to view this?
I can dream... Seriously angry about this.

Well folks, I managed to find my way into BT Sport because I'm in the same boat as Tourn46, I want to carry on watching MotoGP in 2014 (but I won't pay subscription fees to anyone).
Just checked my connection speed - excellent - 8MB.
Just watched some tennis on BT Sport 2 - YouTube quality at best.  BT Sport 1 even poorer and ESPN, wouldn't connect.
Hohum.  No more watching those incerdible machines being wrestled around at 200mph in HD/slow motion.  I think I'll probably not bother to watch.  I see I could maybe get HD by paying for an Infinit package - oops, I won't pay any more so that's out.  I see the BT channels come up on my Samsung SmartTV on FreeView, but I'd need a subscription box to get those- oops, I won't pay any more so that's out too.

  • Run Profile Deletion and Speeding up portal access

    Hi,
My FIM 2010 R2 architecture uses 4 servers as follows:
1 x fim server, 1 x fim sql DB (fim service DB), 1 x sync server + fim SQL DB and 1 x SSPR
I have a PowerShell sync scripts running every 5 minutes which take fim portal changes and export those changes to AD.
I've created some PowerShell scripts for removing old run profiles, but am not sure how many run profiles to keep? Reading online I came across one blog post which mentions that Ms recommend no more than 10,000 run profile history entries - about 4 days
worth (although I can't find official Ms recommendations).
I'm assuming it's OK, but are there any issues with one script running a run profile at the same time as another script which deletes older run profiles?
On a side note, if anyone has any tips for speeding up fim portal access I'd be glad to hear them - each page in my environment takes about 30 seconds to load, regardless of the number of users connected.
    thanks in advance
    IT Support/Everything

On a side note, if anyone has any tips for speeding up fim portal access I'd be glad to hear them - each page in my environment takes about 30 seconds to load, regardless of the number of users connected.
If every page load of the FIM Portal is taking 30 seconds, something is broken in your environment. I get better performance than that running an entire test FIM configuration in virtualized machines on my laptop (AD, Exchange, FIM Portal/Service/Sync, etc.)
When you first start up the environment and bring up a given page the first time, it can take some time, but once you get to steady state, you should not be seeing delays like that.
Any chance you have an authentication configuration error (Kerberos settings, SPN assignment, DNS settings, etc.) that is causing authentication to time out on each page load?
During that 30 second delay, are any of your servers pegged on CPU or IO?
If this is a virtual environment or if you are using SAN based disk, do you have enough IOPS allocated?

  • Internet speed too slow in hotspot mode on iPad after upgrade to iOS8

    Problem:
After upgrade from iOS7 to iOS8 my 3G internet speed shows very poor performance in Hotspot mode.
    Before upgrade (on iOS7):
    3G
    without hotspot -- 4 MB/s
in hotspot mode shared over WiFi -- 4 MB/s
    After upgrade (to iOS8):
    3G
    without hotspot -- 4 MB/s
in hotspot mode shared over WiFi, Bluetooth and USB -- speed drops to stable 20-30 KB/s regardless of attached device or network quality
I contacted my 3G operator, they report to have made no changes, and have no clue and suggest me to contact 'equipment manufacturer'.
I have tried different kind of settings, resetting/experimenting with APN/username/pass. The only thing I haven't done so far is I didn't erase/clean reinstall my iPad. But I will do it soon.
    Could you please suggest:
    a) has anyone else faced such a problem?
    b) has anyone have an idea how to fix it?
Thanks in advance for any kind of help.

    Update:
A solution was to leave the 'Hotspot APN' blank and fill out the 'login' field instead with <any> symbols.

  • Broadband speed too slow

Hi thanks for the heads up on the phone numbers -
My broadband speed runs between 4kbps and 6 kbps when I am paying for upto 20!
My next door neighbour (also with BT) had the same complaint and after several visits from openreach is now running at 14 kbps
BT have tested the line and promised to do something about it on two occasions!
BT speedtest results are shown below
    Please help
    Test1 comprises of two tests
    1. Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.
     Download Speed
     6329 Kbps
    0 Kbps 7150 Kbps
    Max Achievable Speed
Download speedachieved during the test was - 6329 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 2000-7150 Kbps.
     Additional Information:
     Your DSL Connection Rate :8020 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 1024 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 7000 Kbps
The throughput of Best Efforts (BE) classes achieved during the test is - 4.03:15.82:80.16 (SBE:NBEBE)
These figures represent the ratio while sententiously passing Sub BE, Normal BE and Priority BE marked traffic.
The results of this test will vary depending on the way your ISP has decided to use these traffic classes.
    2. Upstream Test:  -provides background information.
     Upload Speed
     825 Kbps
    0 Kbps 1024 Kbps
    Max Achievable Speed
    >Upload speed achieved during the test was - 825 Kbps
     Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 1024 Kbps
We were unable to identify any performance problem with your service at this time.
It is possible that any problem you are currently, or had previously experienced may have been caused by traffic congestion on the Internet or by the server you were accessing responding slowly.
If you continue to encounter a problem with a specific server, please contact the administrator of that server in the first instance.
Please visit FAQ section if you are unable To understand the test results.
     Notes:
The Download Speed is the average rate that was achieved during this test.
    Notes:
Your line is configured to the maximum rate that it can support or at your chosen fixed rate, this is known as the line rate and would be viewed through your CPE software or in your router configuration.
Your IP profile is always less than the line rate and is normal on any network.
The Upstream Test rate figure quoted will always be smaller than the assured rate profile. This is because in order for the throughput to reach its destination, it requires an overhead which explains the difference between the two.
    Notes:
If your download speed lies in this range then your connection seems to be working fine.

  • Router restarting itself and speeds very slow!

My router keeps restarting every few hours for no apparent reason, my DSL connection rate on the bt broadband speed test is 3648kbps(down) and 448kbps(up) but because the router keeps restarting my IP Profile for the line hasn't increased from 500kbps and my download speed is 480kbps. I have never had any problems with speed in the past and the IP profile used to be around 3000kbps with download speeds around 2800kbps. I've tried swapping the router to my old voyager 2110 and the same problem occured. We have had really bad weather the past week, might this have something to do with it?
