Re-publishing a decompiled Flash app

I was recently given a request to simply change a phone
number for a website at
http://www.axis-group.net
since the original developer was unreachable for the past year or
so. thinking this was only a simple request, I was able to at least
obtain ftp access, but to make a long story short, the text that
needed to be changed was actually a text component in a flash file
where you would hover over "introduction", then click onto "Contact
Us" and the address information slides onto the screen. The only
file available was the .swf file and I was actually able to
decompile using Sothink SWF Catcher and find where the text needed
to be changed. Now when I go to publish and preview the flash file,
the "Introduction" and "Contact Us" still appear, but the address
information is now nowhere to be found.
So I'm wondering if I'm missing something from the decompiler
or whether there are any other external files I may be missing. the
original swf file at least works when I saved it to my hard drive,
but after I decompile and re-publish is when some of the features
no longer seem to work anymore. Will I need to somehow find the
original .fla file? or perhaps there's an option I need to set,
please advise, thanks.
I am using Macromedia Flash Professional 8
According to my Publish Settings:
version = Flash Player 6
Load order: Bottom up
ActionScript version: ActionScript 1.0

In what appears to be "Text 93", I'm trying to change the
telephone number from 226-3064 to 451-3050, and remove the Facimile
line altogether while moving the email line up to where Facimile
was.
When I go to change version to 2.0, I get the following error
messages while publishing, in the output window:
**Error** Scene=Scene 1, layer=Action Layer, frame=2:Line

• Publish to an Android App like in Flash.

Hi
I would like to be able to publish to an Android App like you can in Flash.
I know that I can export to Flash and then from Flash to an Android App but I can't export quizzes to Flash as this is not supported.
Another option would be to support exporting quizzes to Flash CS5.5. but that version of Flash is hopless when it comes to quizzing and never seems to work properly.
Cheers

Here is my understanding of the updating rules for iOS apps. Once you publish an app targeting a specific OS, any further update to that app must target that OS. Since Flash CS5.5 only targets 2.6 and later, which has a dependency on iOS 4 or later, you are as you discovered stuck. I think you solution is to create a new version, "My Awesome App HD" and then publish via CS5.5 to get the performance and Retina support you want.

• Flash app converted to AIR/desktop app: actionscript not running

Hi there,
I have a flash app that runs on a browser useing actionscript and webservices for getting data, converted to a AIR desktop app. It access a local database for data. I have opened the .fla file and changed the publishing setting to AIR and set the document class to the Main.as. Also, I have added the following .swc files - framework.swc and rpc.swc. While trying to debug it is showing that "Your swf does not have action script to debug". While running it, I am getting a blank screen. Could you guys please help me out in what I am missing or doing wrong ????????

• Are there any non-game Flash apps in the iPhone App Store and Android Market?

We all know flash can make some pretty nifty games. But I'm wondering if there are any non-game flash apps (adobe AIR) out there in the AppStore and Android Market. What I'm looking for are Flash apps with
1.) forms (textboxes, checkboxes, submit buttons)
2.) scrollable content (such as news feeds long enough to extend past the screen)
3.) grid reports (data shown in a table format)
I'm wondering if these are possible in flash or if it's better to go with java/objectiveC.

It is definitely better to build apps with objective-c. There is not way to say something different.
However, you can build a lot of apps with flash, but they will not have the same feeling of a native apps.
On some instances it might not matter, but even the rotation is different (and in a lot of cases weird)...
You can't access very important features as alerts and though videos show that the next air build will improve speed a lot it is still a little different.
BUT
it is great that you can develop with Flash and if there are more improvements in the next couple of weeks and month it should become more efficient and valuable. For now it is too limited in comparison to objective-c which is sad, since I think that a lot of tiny tweaks could easily be eliminated by Adobe, but to me all current builds look like they have been published far too early and without real world testing (which –again– doesn't mean it is not possible to do a good app). Actually I think that the speed of the apps and systemintegration (game center, alerts, etc.) makes it better to produce everything but games.

• How to create installer for flash app where content is distributed by chapter?

hi everyone,
i wanted to create an application installer (per chapter) like the one implemented on the product on this site: http://www.thelandofme.com/ .. can someone pls guide me on this? i have no problem creating flash apps but i'm so lost on making installers , like update installers for the same app.. the idea is that on first installation of my app, other contents are not available until the user downloads it from my site and install it on their pc. and that installer will just update the existing one with the new downloaded content..
i hope i have explained the idea clearly.. i need a guide or advices on how i can make an app like this..

• Register BI Publisher report in Oracle Apps

Hi,
I wanted to know, if we can register a BI Publisher report in Oracle Apps. Please note that this is BI publisher Release 10.1.3.4...I am not using any rdf here.
Thanks,
As

Hii Gareth,
The steps you specified are basically used for former XML publisher but as i am developing the report in BI Publisher, when we create data definition in xml administrator responsibility, that time we need to upload a data template file that looks like following:
<dataTemplate name="InvoiceTest" description="Invoice Test" Version="1.0">
<parameters>
<parameter name="P_ORG_ID" dataType="Integer"/>
</parameters>
<dataQuery>
<sqlStatement name="Q1">
select a.invoice_num AS "Invoice Number",
a.invoice_currency_code AS "Invoice Currency code",
a.payment_currency_code AS "Payment Currency Code",
sum(a.invoice_amount) AS "Invoice Amount",
a.payment_method_lookup_code AS "Payment Method",
sum(a.approved_amount) AS "Approved Amount",
b.vendor_name "Vendor Name",
b.vendor_id AS Vendor_id
from ap_invoices_all a,
po_vendors b
where invoice_type_lookup_code = 'STANDARD'
and a.vendor_id = b.vendor_id
and a.org_id = NVL(:P_ORG_ID,a.ORG_ID)
group by
b.vendor_name,
a.invoice_num,
a.invoice_currency_code,
a.payment_currency_code,
a.invoice_date,
a.payment_method_lookup_code,
b.vendor_id
</sqlStatement>
</dataQuery>
</dataTemplate>
but as Latest BI Publisher does not provide/generate such file automatically (I am not using rdfs but querying the database from BI Publisher itself) so there is no use of using this way registering the BI Publisher report in Oracle Apps as using this way to register a BI Publisher report will lead me to manually make a data definition file and then register it into Oracle Apps. Please suggest me if there is any other way that i can go for or if there is any way i can get the data definition file automatically created from Latest BI Publisher.
Thanks for your help,
Regards,

• Publish time in Apple App store

Wondering if anyone has a general time frame for a folio's appearing in the Apple App store. My understanding is that Apple only does approval on the app and the initial publication and after that you can publish whenever you choose.
We are publishing our 3rd issue and pushed it this morning but 2 hours later and it has not shown up yet. On our second issue it was instantly in the store. With our first issue, it took the usual app approval time of 2 weeks because it was the first time.
We did publish a new updated app, but that was approved a couple weeks ago and we released it seperatley last Friday. Make me think the delay is from the Adobe side.

Public & Free and yes the correct app account, the same one that the 2 previous issues were created and published with.
Is it possibly something with the app? We updated the app to R23 and it was approved already and published last Friday.

• I have a problem with my keyboard in Flash App on Android.

I have a problem with my Flash App on Android, this app requires installing Adobe Air on Android before running. The keyboard pushing issue has troubled me for a while however I can't find a solution.
As you know, while triggering any text box, the keyboard, no matter built-in one or others will push the screen up to a few then you can see what you are typing. However, on my app, when I trigger the built-in keyboard, it covers the half screen meanwhile I can't see what I am typing.
Could anyone can give a light so I can completely this problem for 2 years? Is this something I can do with action script or Flash?
Thank you.

If you have a suggestion or answer feel free to leave a message as I will continue to check back here. Thanks.

• Has anyone tried to send a Flash-app to the App Store?

Has anyone tried to send a Flash-app to the App Store, after the new statement from Apple? If yes, what was the answer back from Apple?
I see that the previous apps made from Flash CS 5 is still up on the App Store. Maybe there is a small hope for Flash developers?

Well, if they accepted a Flash-made app, then I would work more on my iPhone Flash-game before sending it to App Store. I don't think I'm gonna make better graphics etc, if the app only will run on my phone. And I don't think I'm gonna send a 70% done game to the App Store, and if they accept it, then finish it.
So it would be very helpful to hear a "success story".

• Flash app loading multiple swfs

Hi ...
I am having to fix a load problem with our Flash app. The
current code loads in 3 to 4 swf's (100 to 300 kb in size) into the
main swf and the same time. Should the swfs be loaded sequentially
or is ok for them to be loaded all at once?
Thx

Loading external swf containing code (even a single stop() !) is not allowed on iOS...

• Issues in running a flash app inside a flex application

I am trying to load and run an AS3 SWF inside my Flex app. I am using SWFLoader component. This SWF file is an animation which has several clickable buttons, drag and drop of items inside the swf and some text boxes. Can some one please help me in identifying how to do this in Flex? I am able to load the swf, but when I try to drag one of the items and put it in another spot within the swf stage, it does not work an dthe buttons do not appear to be working. Do I have to know the functions within the AS3 SWF? Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Ramesh

I tried with some of the AS3 files from Adobe samples (http://www.adobe.com/devnet/actionscript/samples.html), for eg., the Drawing API. There are slider components in the flash app that don't show up either. Does that give anyone a clue as to what might be wrong? Thanks, Ramesh

I'm designing in flash. Making a flash app. I was asked to
make an O.S. clone. Like Microsoft Windows. It is for our server
and I am desprate. I have no clue what so ever. Can any one help? I
need a login system and stuff close to an operating system. I
already have the windows.

This is really vague! There are many many ways to do this.
What do you want it to do? just log in? try getting a piece of

• Published Project for MAC (.app) and will not open external PDF files

I have two captivate (7.x) projects that I published as Win .exe apps, and they work fine. Published the same two projects as MAC (.app) and when I run the app on the iMac, and click a click box to open an external PDF, nothing happens. The PDFs are located in the "root" folder with the .app file.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Windows 7
Adobe Captivate 7

Thanks for the feedback. I was able to open some PDF files on Acrobat 5 that I recently scanned at a Fed Ex office with no issue whatsoever. I could extract pages, delete pages, etc, the software Acrobat 5 worked fine.
What I wonder is there a way I can make a change to a PDF file that will then allow me to open it in Acrobat 5? I have a gut feeling there is an adjustment that I can make in Adobe Reader after opening it that will then make the file accessible in Acrobat 5. I am playing with it but no luck thus far.

• Scrolling in a Flash App on a mobile device. Anyone?

In my opinion, the biggest different between a flash app on a computer desktop vs a flash app on a mobile device is the scrolling behavior.
A flash app on a computer desktop usually has a scrollbar and you click on the up/down arrows or the scrollbar to scroll. But on a mobile device, this scrolling is done with a swipe of the finger through the screen either horizontally or vertically.
Has anyone had any success implementing this scrolling behavior on a mobile device with a flash app?
If so, what technique did you use?

Dissipation, Can you possibly post your method of scrolling? For a comparison, i have been trying to get this scrolling to work for ages.
I have this:
var ease:int = 6
var targX:int = dragMe.x
var targY:int = dragMe.y
var drag:Boolean = false
var ptX:int
var ptY:int
dragMe.cacheAsBitmap = true;
function down(sprite:Sprite):void{
//ptX = sprite.x - mouseX
ptY = sprite.y - mouseY
drag = true
function dragC(sprite:Sprite):void{
if (drag) {
//targX = mouseX+ptX;
targY = mouseY+ptY;
//trace ('targX ' +targX)
//trace ('ptX ' +ptX)
if (sprite.x != targX || sprite.y != targY) {
//sprite.x += (targX-sprite.x)/ease;
sprite.y += (targY-sprite.y)/ease;
function up(sprite:Sprite):void {
drag = false;
stage.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, dragHandler)
stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, downHandler)
stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, upHandler)
function dragHandler(event:Event):void    { dragC(dragMe) }
function upHandler(event:MouseEvent):void    { up(dragMe) }
function downHandler(event:MouseEvent)
This works fine, it scrolls with easing, but on the device its quite slow, i mean its not jumpy but once flicked it scrolls very slow. Even if i changed the variable: ease

• Is it possible to automate flash apps and games

Hi,
Im really new to flash. I only just started learning about it today.
I was wondering if its possible to automate games and apps that have been written in flash.
For example.
Suppose a simple card game was written in flash. To automate it I would need to
-read all of the values of all labels on the screen.
-figure out the location and identity of active objects like buttons and text boxes.
I suppose these values could be passed to some kind of executable flile running outside the browser
which would then move the mouse and click the buttons as desired.
Mabey there is a better way of doing this ?
I tried running flash apps in Firefox with firebug and fireflash installed to see if I could see what was going on inside
the flash files. It didn't work. Mabey debugging has to be enable inside the files themselves which is no use if they are owned
by somebody else.
Can anyone guide me in the right direction here. Is it possible to automate a gmae somebody else has written in flash ?.
Mark.

SWF file is a compiled code. This means that it comes in form of encrypted code and needs its own interpreter - Flash player plugin. As Ned said, no other program can see compiled code. Browser sees only and it positions it according to DOM architecture. Firebug is a proxy that is capable to display network requests along with DOM architecture, JS, and CSS. Firebug has no access to SWF code either.
If your question is about how to expose particular parts of your application - the way to do that is to implement traces inside Flash. These traces can be output in some debugging software (for instance FlashTrace) at runtime. But, again, these tools cannot see more than traces.
