Re: Unauthorized charges and Skype account hacked ...

I have been hacked and lost money but cannot seem to get any help from Skype - how do you get the money back. I have cancelled my paypal accout and cancelled my credit card - skype just keep sending a repeat email saying how sorry they are.
Do I take them to court?
it is a rip off! I am furious with them as they just do not care - no one seems to want ot help and apparently they do not talk to customers.
Any guidance gratefully recieved.

If you experience difficulty contacting Skype Customer Service or find yourself redirected back to the Community, please try again using a different web browser and choosing a different path through the various drop-down menu options presented.
Also, look to approve a pop-up dialogue box which would connect you to start an instant message chat with a customer service agent. If you have pop-ups blocked in your browser settings, this will also block reaching an agent.
Last and not least, when you reach the last step of the process, remember to click on the "Start Chat" link when you are provided the choice of visiting the Community or starting an instant message chat with a customer service agent.

  • Unauthorized charges and Skype account hacked into...

    Hi all-
There were 2 times that my Skype account charged money to my username without me knowing, under the auto recharge, and this happened after a bunch of hacked text messages with a Russian phone number drained my Skype account of funds.  Now its saying my accoun is locked so obviously something is up.
Has this ever happened to anyone else?  I've been trying to reach someone at Skype to discuss this and there is no contact info or fraud dept listed.  Please pass on any Skype corporate info you may have...
    thanks!

Hi, Greggarry, and welcome to the Community,
These types of reports typically appear on the Skype Account: Security, Privacy, Trust & Safety message board.  To release your account, you will need to contact Skype Customer Service, as you know.  Once you have your account restored, change the password as well as that of the saved payment method you have on file.  You may also consider contacting the payment method issuer to report the fraudulent purchases; most credit card companies do not hold their customers liable for fraudulent payments if reported shortly after the incident.
Here is a link to the instruction on how to contact Skype Customer Service via their secure portal: Contact Customer Service
A few more notes to guide you along the way ...
You will need to proceed through each step, one at a time. Sign on to the Skype website as requested. Choose the subject and topic which most closely matches the item you need assistance with. Then, continue past Step 2 of the instruction where several articles from the FAQ library will appear for you to review, and proceed to Step 3, Continue Support Request (the blue "button" appears at the lower right corner of the website page). You may also skip through Step 4 where you will be referred back here to the Community; no need to do this as the Community is where you started. When you complete the webform and click Submit, your information is relayed to Skype and you will receive a reply via e-mail.
If you are a Skype Premium or other eligible customer, you will be routed to start an instant message chat session with a Customer Service agent.
    Regards,
    Elaine

How do I remove an unauthorized charge from my account?

In what way is it unauthorized? Are you stating that your account has been hacked by strangers? Or has your account been used by family or friend?

  • Warning! Skype account hacked and money stolen

I feel it is important that Skype users be warned of their vulnerability to Internet theft and take the appropriate action.
All persons with Skype pre-approved payment agreements through Paypal should seriously consider cancelling these agreements immediately. The urgency to take this action is for the following reasons:
    1. Paypal considers the theft of a Skype prepaid account as "not an instance of unauthorized account activity" and will not refund monies stolen under these circumstances.
    2. Skype has indicated that it is "not liable, and is unable to refund any money that has been lost because of this incident."
After losing almost $100 in unauthorized Skype usage on June 30, 2011, I feel all Skype users should be notified of their vulnerability and be aware that neither Skype nor Paypal will refund money stolen from pre-approved agreements.

    This is crazy !!!
Lose a login ..create another one and do all the weird dance to POST a reply. Man ..this is where skype starts to DIE ..
    Same story !!!
Account password changed suddenly and ofcourse the EMAIL was changed as well.
And IM aghast at seeing how many such accounts and for how long has these been going on and SKYPE does nothing.
A simple solution is - when a user is changing EMAIL address, do it via the OLD address only. So if i created a login name ABC thru [email protected] (the first email id) - anytime the user wants to change it, treat it like the Password change TOKEN process. This way NO UNauthorized genius can LOCK some user out.
    Maybe some secret questions etc.?
    other techniques.
    But how does
    - some steal passwords from ur systems?
    - or you wud say its random generators?
    - And credit card FREQUENCY usage? can users set something there? that I wud NOT change my Skype account for more 10$ everyday? or everyweek?
And ..HOPE you guys are NOT storing credit card INFO in the system?
and money wise - there shud be a way to STOP auto-recharge option?  Or stop from blowing over like above.

  • Skype Account HACKED

I have had someone gain unauthorized access to my Skype account.  This is insane, because I knew I was being targeted by a hacker, and went to ehosts Live Support to tell them.  I also told them NEVER TO CHANGE THE REGISTERED EMAIL ON MY ACCOUNT.  They said they made a note on my account and that they would not change the email, no matter who came into their live support.
Here I am today, and what did Skype support do?  They CHANGED THE REGISTERED EMAIL FOR THE HACKER.  He did NOT HAVE ACCESS TO MY EMAIL ACCOUNT.  YET, YOU STILL CHANGED IT FOR HIM??  Skype is an absolute JOKE.  This service is absolutely garbage.  You should be ashamed of the horrible security.
    My account =---
    My registration email = ---
This email was completely secret.  This means that the hacker had no way of knowing my email address (unless one of your retarded agents told him the address).  My passwords are secure, my email is secure.  The only thing that is compromised is my Skype account, because Skype allowed someone to change the email on my account WITH MINIMAL INFORMATION ABOUT MY ACCOUNT.
He is now costing my business hundreds (possibly thousands) of dollars by SCAMMING my CONTACT LIST.
First things, first: for your safety and protection, please never, ever include any personally identifiable information such as your real name, Skype account name, e-mail address, or a telephone number in a post on a public Community or forum such as this.

afaik, users can only change their registered email address (1) if they supply the current password of the account in question (2) or contacting support and answering verification questions to prove that they are the owner of the account [in cases if the user don't remember their password or no longer have access to the account/registered email address].  Such verification questions are quite difficult to answer even for the account owner themselves at certain times (as what can be seen in other threads in this forum).
You may need to contact customer support again, and perhaps can ask for a senior rep/supervisor to handle your concern.
IF YOU FOUND OUR POST USEFUL THEN PLEASE GIVE "KUDOS". IF IT HELPED TO FIX YOUR ISSUE PLEASE MARK IT AS A "SOLUTION" TO HELP OTHERS. THANKS!

  • Skype account hacked. Skype agent very helpful

So my skype account got hacked today.  I made a call to a landline number in Taiwan for about 40 minutes, but while I was calling, I got 5 notices about account automatic recharge (I did set my account up so the account gets recharged when credit is low).  I then checked my account history, there was a bunch of mobile calls to a Taiwanese cell number that started today. Each call lasted 30 mins (costing ~2.5 euroes each call).  These 5 charges also showed up as pending on my bank account.
I used Skype live chat, and the agent Angela A. was really helpful and cancelled the 5 credit charges (worth over $60) to my bank account even though these recharged credits had been used (by the hacker).  I want to thank her here again for her help.  I realize a lot of threads out there seem to tell a different story, that Skype isnt very helpful on refunding charges made on hacked accounts.  Maybe my case is different, since the charges are actually still pending and not made yet.  But just want to point out that there are good people in Skype who are willing to help out.

  • Skype Account Hacked - Will this affect my Microso...

Last Wednesday, I received an e-mail receiving confirmation of my password change, and confirmation of my new e-mail address.  Of course, I had changed neither and contacted Skype to let them know that someone had hacked my Skype account.
Several exchanges with them later and things are still being sorted out (after six days). I have reached the stage where I have the link to reset my password, but unfortunately that takes me through to the Microsoft website and it is not the Microsoft password I need to change, but one associated with my Skype Login.  Anyway, I digress.
I was wondering, if someone has got into my Skype account, using my Skype password, is there any chance he may be rooting around in my Microsoft Account (Outlook, OneDrive, etc).  Or would he have needed to also get around my Microsoft password to do that.  I suspect the latter, as that is where I am being sent.
Would anyone like to put my mind at rest?

You can try to retrieve the sync key from that mobile device.

This FAQ article provides next steps:
    https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA10946/what-should-i-do-if-my-account-is-suspended-hacked-or-compr...
Please see the section titled, "Hacked Accounts."  Please also sign on to your Skype account dashboard to ensure that your account's registered e-mail address is correct and accurate.  Change your account password if you have not already done so - the easiest way to accomplish this is from within the software or app.  In the Windows Desktop version, it's Skype -> Change Password.
You will be directed to contact Skype Customer Service for assistance.  These tips may be helpful as Skype is experiencing continuing problems with the websites:   If you experience difficulty reaching Skype Customer Service or find yourself redirected back to the Community, please try again using a different web browser and choosing a different path through the various drop-down menu options presented.
Also, look to approve a pop-up dialogue box which would connect you to start an instant message chat with a customer service agent. If you have pop-ups blocked in your browser settings, this will also block reaching an agent.

  • Facebook and Skype accounts in WP messaging app

    Hello,
I recently got a Lumia 925 where I have problem seeing my fb and skype contacts in the messaging app.
The problem is only with my phone as when i log into outlook.com, I can see my skype and connected fb account contacts.
When on my phone, only old messenger contacts appear as available to chat with.  (No FB, skype)
Is there something I could try that may fix the problem?
    Thanks

    Hi ManosR,
Anything happen prior to this concern? What are the troubleshooting that you tried to perform on your phone? How did you link these applications to your phone? For the Skype contacts, you will only see them if you are in the main Skype application. It will not be shown under the messaging thread. As per the Facebook contacts, make sure that your Facebook account is setup on the phone. You can check this by going to Setting > Email + Account > Check if your Facebook account is there. If not, you need to set it up from there.

  • Problems with overage charges and making account changes on line

I have quite a bit of history involving my attempts to resolve the problem of catching my account before it goes over the minutes allowed and making the changes on line (to cut down on call volume) to change my account to raise the minutes allowed for that billing cycle.  I was given one reason why it didn't work the first time (I didn't print out my confimation proving I made the changes - bit the bullet and paid those charges) and so the second time wanting to avoid the problem from the first time I made sure I printed out my confirmation.  The confirmation had an effective date of change of 07/19/2012 the day I was informed I was nearing my allowed minutes.  There were only 4 or 5 maximum days left in that billing cycle so I wanted to nip the problem in the bud and make the changes to my account to be made "that" day.  My confirmation said the changes were effective 07/19/2012.  In plently of time before that billing cycle ended.  Again I was told I did something wrong.  This time I'm holding my confirmation in my hand even as the person is telling me again I did it wrong.  The purpose Verizon wants it's customers to use the available on-line option is to cut down on their call volume.  I didn't go to school to get the knowledge apparantly needed to perform these particular tasks in a manner that is acceptable to Verizon.  Has anyone else had problems with trying to fix their problems themselves using Verizons "helpfull" on-line choice?

I have an explanation for you by what was meant by "you did it wrong."
When you make a change effective the date you are requesting it and not at the start or end of your billing cycle, your minute usage for that month is pro-rated.
For example, you say you made a change, because you were nearing your allowance limit, on 7/19/2012 and wanted it effective that day with 5 days left in the billing cycle. Lets assume that your allowance is 700 minutes/month and you were at 675 minutes for that month(still under your monthly allowance). If you make a change effective with 5 days left in your billing cycle to the 1400 minute/month allowance, your allowance for the 1st 25 days of your cycle will have been pro-rated to (25/30) * 700 = 583 minutes. This would mean you would have already had an overage of 92 minutes for the 1st 25 days of the month. Additionally, you would have a pro-rated allowance to use the last 5 days of (5/30) * 1400 = 233 minutes. This is how the pro-rating works when you make a change effective during the middle of your billing cycle.
What you need to do next time to avoid these overage charges is to make the change effective at the beginning of your current billing cycle. So if you had made the change on 7/19/2012, but your billing cycle ended on 7/24/2012(5 days later), you should have made the change effective at the beginning of your current billing cycle, or 6/24/2012. This is called backdating the change. In this instance, you would have received a credit on you account for the cost of the 700 minute plan and been charged the full amount for the 1400 minute plan on your next bill, which I believe is a net additional charge of $10 and you would have had the use of 1400 minutes for throughout the entire month. In this example, you would not have had any overage with your 675 minutes during the 1st 25 days of your cycle and would have been able to use 725 minutes over the last 5 days of your billing cycle. This is much better than the overage charge you would receive with 92 overage minutes @ $0.45/minute = $41.40.
    I hope this explains it.
