Reader X and printing issues

This past weekend I updated Acrobat on my wife's computer (Windows XP SP3). I uninstalled Acrobat 9, downloaded and installed Acrobat X. Everything seemed to work, I get a frantic phone call Wednesday night from my wife (we are trying to sell my house 40 miles away and I'm house sitting...), when she prints a PDF form from the web, the printing is screwed up, the original font appears to have some italics, that was changed to some sort of bold font that is compressed horizontally, the kerning looks weird as well. It looks okay on the screen but totally screwed up on the printed page.
So Wednesday night, I use her laptop that hasn't been updated (thankfully), downloaded and printed the page and it looks fine.
I had her test the same functionality on her work computer and the same thing happens. I also updated her work computer (from Acrobat 8) the same weekend <sigh>.
Does anyone have a clue?

Hi Guys,
Had the same problem at a client site and it was driving me crazy. Turns out that its a very simple fix. Under Preferences in the General tab, take a tick out of Enable Protected Mode at startup.
Once I did that on all client computers they printed fine to all printers.

Reader X spooling print issue

we just recently switch our whole network from XP/cs4 to win 7/reader x. We didn't reinstall cs4 as nobody needed anything beside being able to read pdf and print.
Everytime somebody print a pdf document (for example our biggest one 48 pages) and print multiple copy (let say 20), the spooling process for a normal user will literraly go through 960 times and send 1 document to print with 960 pages. on My pc in IT department with either reader X or CS4, it only process 48 pages and sent 20 copy.
The other issue linked to spooling is when we try out A3 documents (2 pages questionnaires for patients 3.7Mb files), nobody can print on network beside myself, reader usually fail on spooling, or print half document without any Text, just images of box.
I'm not really use how to troubleshoot this as we didn't do anything, we use a print server just as before with a spool queue for HP (all sames) or differents sharps. It doesn't matter which printer we choose, which make me think it's on a user settings/rights as it work fine from domain admin accounts/IT pc.

after more tests it seems that any pc that got only reader X will have this problem (2 documents of 3 pageswill print 1 doc of 6 pages back to back without blank page between.)
on the 2 pc that got cs4 (mine is full installation including adobe pro 9, colleague got all but pro 9) everything work fine.
on any other pc that got wiped from XP and received win 7 with adobe reader 10.1.0 this problem occur.
I also discovered this problem only occur when we use the main print screen from adobe software, but not if we go into printer properties and setup the amount of copies we want.

Adobe Reader 9 and printing labels with USPS.

I have read some of the other posts about Adobe Reader 9 and printing labels with USPS. I am running Snow Leopard on my IMac with Adobe reader 9.1.3 and have had no problems only when using Mozilla Firefox 3.5.3 for the Mac. There is, however, an extra step, if I recall (some window asking me to make a selection, which came up after I clicked on the "print and bill" button). But everything worked just fine.

Thank you for the quick response. I've done that but the problem persists.
A bit about my computer it's Vista, but the folders are a little weird. Default install directory and common files folders are on a different drive. In addition appdata are also on a different drive. However this should not affect sinve I've already re-installed Adobe Reader multiple times and it used to work just fine.
But perhaps the problem is indeed path related. Anybody with more ideas to share?

Update: When I reinstall Adobe Reader and open the file, the first time I try to install Japanese font it does not end with "registering product" but with something like "removing backup files" (see attachment). If I try to install Japanese font again and again, I will get the "registering product" at the final glimpse of the installation pop-up.

New airport extreme and printer issues

OK here is the deal
I have the new airport and a hp psc 750 printer. I have a new macbook which can not print on this printer. It will recognize it thru bonjour but will not install the driver - the odd thing is that I have a pc connected directly and a windows based wireless laptop which both are able to print via this airport. I also have an external hard drive that is connected to the airport. All of the computers are able access this drive. So all appears in order except for the macbook-printer issue. I contacted tech support and they claimed driver issue. Anyone have any ideas - I have updated the most recent drivers for this computer and I was able to install this printer via a usb connection. Thanks

There have been a few posts about issues with HP printers working or not working as the case may be through the extreme. I can't remember what they say, but a search for HP in this forum may well help you.

PostScript settings in Reader XI causing print issue

I have one user on one PC unable to print from Reader XI. When I log in, printing is normal...both users are local administrators. The only difference I can see is in Reader's Advanced print settings; the problem user has PostScript Options available, where normal printing seems to pull the settings from a printer or print driver automatically (greyed out and unavailable). It is as if something is overriding the default behavior for this user only. I have tried defaulting the printer options, reinstalling Reader XI with no progress. Does anyone know what user specific setting might be causing this behavior?

I appreciate the suggestion... however I don't think the driver is the issue because I can send the same .pdf job from the same PC to the same IP printer OK. It is only one user having the issue... his job from Reader is never sent, spooled, nothing. The Problem User is able to print from all other apps OK. This is why I asked about user specific settings affecting Reader's ability to communicate with the print driver on a user specific basis.
Maybe I wasn't clear about the issue. Again; same print driver, same ip printer, same PC, same file, different user, different PostScript Options state in Reader - Print - Advanced, different result. Problem User's PostScript Options are not greyed out by default, not printing from Reader at all regardless of PostScript Options manually selected.
What could be preventing Reader from automatically pulling those default (greyed out) settings, on the individual user profile level, from a printer that is otherwise printing fine from Reader for other users on the same machine?

Challenge for all of you with SL and printer issues

I have an iMac with an Epson Stylus C-88+. Let's try an experiment. Pick a sample web page, in the Title Bar, go to File/Print, or Command-P. Go to the lower left hand corner, you have the purple question, then"PDF"/ Click/ "Save as PDF"/ Click. You should be able to find a copy of that website where you save documents in pdf. Because this is all within the machine, there are NO connectivity issues. I failed both in printing and pdf. Anybody out there have better luck?

I am beginning to think the problem is not just be the printer / print driver, but just may be 'Snow Leopard'. Apple needs to become more involved, not just the printer companies. You write, "Are you saying that saving to PDF doesn't work?" All I'm saying is this, "For me, it did not work. You must explore the situation to determine the functionality of your own individual system. For me, earlier on Saturday, I was printing through the printer AND printing to disk (PDF). I later did a "Software Update" including Epson Printer Update. Later in the morning, I went back online and was going to print a disk or PDF, but it would not function. I called AppleCare and explained the situation. The Tech told me to try my printer, I ask him "Well, what are we going to do?" This is the first time I discovered the problem was also with the printer. The Tech said, "YOU are going to call the printer manufacturer and inform THEM of THEIR problem." I said, I didn't get this update from Epson. I got it from AppleCare!" AppleCare wants us to keep our systems up to date. Well, I've got an updated system that is also (REDACTED). Terms not acceptable for a discussion board!

Adobe Reader 10 & 11 Printer Issues

Printing double sided and with staples doesn't work with adobe reader.
I print 2 copies double sided with staples, without collationIt prints 2 copies, but staples pages 1 together, 2 together, 3 together. It won't stable pages 1,2,3 together as one document
I print 2 copies double sided with staples with collationIt prints 2 copies in the right order, but it only uses 1 staple to staple all of the documents together.
I can print double sided with staples on word and it comes out correct. So this issue is isolated with only Adobe Reader.
One fix I see people doing, is reverting back to adobe reader 9. But adobe no longer has adobe reader 9 available for download.
Did anyone find a fix to this? I see a lot of unanswered forum questions about this. I even called adobe about this issue, but they refused to answer the question.

Illustrator fill effects and printing issue

We just got a new canon imagepress C1+ printer and it's amazing so far. However when we try to print AI files with complex fill effects it never works. It just prints a blank page... As soon as we remove the fill effects and put something more simple in it prints it fine. We need the fill effects though.
We can't bypass it by rastering it because then it leaves these weird lines on the page. If we save to pdf it takes too long because we make changes all day on the files.
Has anyone ever seen anything like this or how to reduce the size when putting in complex fill effects? I'm not even sure it's the size issue because I printed off a simple fill effect design that was 300mb and it went fine.

Thanks for all the responses. Well it is a one layer AI file. It does print when rastered but it leaves weird lines on the page. There is no transparency on it so that wouldn't work.
It does use a RIP when processing it to print. However on the server when spooling then printing the ram on the fiery controller shows it barely using it. So not sure if that would be the problem? It very well could be a driver problem because it prints fine to all other printers beside this new one. However Ive tried multiple drivers and still nothing. I wonder if this would more than likely be a printer issue as opposed to a illustrator issue?

Crystal Report viewing and Printing Issue

I use crystal Reports for PO,AR Invoice,Delivery and many other documents.It takes more than 5 mins to view layout from crystal report and print sequence printing takes more than 10mins.Please Help me to rectify this issue..

What is your SAP version and Patch Level ?
I believe in new version this issue has been addressed by SAP. Also note SAP B1 8.81 PL 07 has some issues in crystal Report, it asks for SQL user id and password, SAP is aware of this issue. So if you plan upgrade to latest PL then ensure that Crystal report issue is resolved, otherwise you will be in trouble.

Remote Desktop Connection and printing issues

Hi,
I am using Windows 7 on my desktop and also connected to Windows Server 2008 R2 to run applications in Windows Server. However, I noted there is problem with the printer issues. Sometimes, when I tried to print some documents using applications
in Windows Server with my local printer in my room connected to desktop, it won't work.
Moreover, I need to go to Windows Server, Component Service to restart printer spooler so it will work again. This is a pain.
I also noticed there is about 30 seconds wait to process any document to print.
Unlike if I print documents directly from my local desktop computer running Windows 7 and connected to local printer, it only takes seconds to print.
My desktop is connected to Windows Server 2008 via local area network. I should not expect such a significant delay in printing.
I also wonder why printer spooler needs to be restarted when printer is not working.
Can anyone advise me about this? Can Microsoft looks into this problem and release updates to fix the bug to improve the system?

Please check if you turn on this settings:
You need to set this up just before you connect. The setting will be saved so that you won't need to change it the next time you connect.
1. Open Remote Desktop Connection by clicking the Start button, clicking
All Programs, clicking Accessories, and then clicking
Remote Desktop Connection.
2.Click Options, and then click the Local Resources
tab.
3.Under Local devices and resources, select the Printers check box.
4.Click Connect to start the session.
Make sure that you select your printer in the Print dialog box each time you print.

Adobe reader customizer and printing

I customized my adobe reader install and everything works except if I right click on a pdf I don't get an option to print. If I install a non-customized adobe reader install I get that option. can anyone tell me where that option is in the customization utility

Transfer files from OS 8.6 to OS 10.5 and printer issue

I am relatively new to the MacOS world, but I am enjoying every minute of it. I recently acquired a new iMac with OS X (10.5) on it. I also have an older Mac that runs OS 8.6 that someone just gave to me. I would love to network the two and share files, but am not sure how to accomplish this. I have a wireless router, with the OS 8.6 Mac plugged in directly via Ethernet, and the iMac connecting via Airport. The Internet works fine on both, but I cannot figure out how to get the two machines to see each other on the network and share files. Any help on this or any pointers of where I could find any help would be appreciated.
Also on this network setup, I have a HP network printer. It is plugged into the router. The OS 8.6 prints fine to it, but the iMac only prints to it if plugged in via Ethernet. If I try to print to it using the Airport, I get a message saying the iMac is unable to communicate w/ the printer. Switch back to Ethernet, and it works fine. Everytime I switch connections, it says something about Appletalk needs to run on this connection and if I want to start it. I answer yes on either connection, yet Airport still isn't working. Any ideas?

I have a similar problem but the issue is between OS 9.1 and OS 10.5.1. I used to be able to network the two machines using OS 10.4. Clearly something has changed with OS 10.5. I know that 10.5 no longer supports OS 9. In my mind, that shouldn't make any difference. I should be able to network with any machine. I can use the network utility and "Ping" the OS 9.1 machine which means I can "see" it through the network. When it comes to attempting to connect with the OS 9.1 device, I get an error code -41 that says for me to check with the system administrator (me)..
I've gotten to the point where I either get a new computer or I find an answer. I have asked a friend of mine who is a former Apple software guru. I'll let you know if I get an answer that works...

Acrobat 9 Form Issues - Font, URL, and Print Issues

Hello folks,
We are developing an Acrobat PDF (I have Pro updated to 9.4.5) with about 30 fields. Some of them contain a default label name, others are blank, and all fields have a unique name. The blank fields on the form are being filled via an automated web services API from Aspose. All info is entered and the PDF is then flattened by the web service.
The document fully populates with all expected data but we are running into three issues:
1) A field that gets populated with a URL by the script properly becomes clickable if the font is set to Helvetica, but when set to Verdana or Arial fails to be recognized by Acrobat.
2) When I create a new form field, and assign a font face/size/color and input a default value, if I go back and try and change the size the default content seems to hold it's original size unless I do a full cut/paste of the value back into the box.
3) We are getting the notorious "An Error exists on this page. Acrobat may not display the page correctly. Please contact the person who created the PDF document to correct the problem"
The odd part is we were not getting that error at first - even with data populated. It was only once we started working on getting the fields horizontally and vertically aligned that the error presented itself.
Any thoughts? I have closed and opened Acrobat, tried opening from Acrobat instead of double clicking the PDF but nothing seems to help.

the font association problem is something recent though, since I used acrobat to print mails directly from my gmail account previously...
it's galling but I installed a free pdf printer which does the job, I needed copies of these mails urgently !
as to the update issue, I see no aum.exe, msiexec.exe or setup.exe running... but that's quite above my head... do I look for those exact processes or are they generic names for processes ?
does my question make sense ????

OSX, Acrobat Reader 5 and printing problems

Not sure this is in the right place (possibly should go to the Adobe Reader section) but help needed.
I have PDFs that look just fine on screen, but when they are printed out, the image is being reduced in size. It is as if there are some margins set someplace (although where, I have no idea) that are over-riding the PDF as it appears on screen. Is this behaviour typical with reader 5? Is there a setting somewhere that will cause the image to be reduced in size? If this is a bug, does anyone know if it is fixed in the Adobe reader range? Is anyone else experiencing this?
My set up is a Mac G4 sawtooth, with upgraded processor (1.5GHz) and new hard drive running 'out of the box' OSX 10.4.6 (Tiger) with Classic accessing the original OS9 installation on the original hard drive.
Range of Adobe products running in Classic (PS 5.5, AI 9.2, ID 1.2) from which some of the PDFs originate.
Old OS9 compatible printer (Epson SP1200) died recently, new printer (Epson SP1400) is only comaptible with OSX, except going via Laserwriter8.
Problem was present with old printer before it died as well, so OS/printer incompatibility is probably the issue.
Upgrading to CS3 is an option, but an expensive one, so wish to explore the Portable Document Format option first!

It cannot be a problem of the installation, because at least Windows 7
was a fresh install with nothing but Reader additionally installed.
By the way, what do you mean by "risky", I followed straight the
documentation from Adobe, where one is allowed to place function calls
requiring a privileged context.
Have you any better idea where to place the call to save? It must be
called automatically, when the User closes the window, no additional
interaction is possible.
One other thing is the call to exportXFAData, have you any idea why
there is a difference in behavior between reader version 7 / 10 and 9?
I wrote that in version 9 the user entered data is missing.

Multiply filter in illustrator with a 2 color job-pdf and print issues?

Hi,
Encountering a tricky problem and not sure if its an InDesign fix or an Illustrator fix.
I am working on a 2 color job—pms color + black on a book cover. The cover needs to seperate into these 2 colors.
Also, I need to make a high res and lowres pdf that look like the cover to send out to marketing, sales etc.
WHAT's THE PROBLEM?...
Well, I am creating a collage with black ink vector graphics on top of the pms background. I created this art in illustrator CS3. it is saved as an .eps file. The illos were done by someone who used a white fill to knock out black areas. There is also a wide 50% grey outline around the illustration.
I like the idea of the line of the illo being black and the fill being red so that it looks seethrough on the red background. But the 50% grey outline causes a problem...I'd like the 50% outline to blend with the red color, so instead of appearing like there is white in the ink it overprints.
The only way I could think of (and quickest way) was to apply the multiply filter in illustrator to the vector illo. This seemed to work great.
I brought the illo into InDesign CS3 where I created my cover layout.
Looks great, Prints great. Separations appear to be good, although it shows the yellow, cyan, and majenta layer they appear to be blank, so I think it will seperate nicely into 2 plates–PMS + black.
BUT, when I make a pdf, using "smallest file size" or using "high quality print", the pdf it makes does not show the illustrations in the collage. They are kind of beige and dulled out. The publisher needs pdfs too.
Does this at all indicate that this job will not print correctly using this multiply filter, or is it all well and good final product wise, but its just an issue making the pdf? I am slightly nervous I am going to send this off to the printer and they will have some issue.
I am a professional designer of 10 years with lots of print experience, but I have never used multiply in illustrator so I just want to make sure there is no rule against doing this I should know about. Does multiply at all mess with the color separations or is it fine? And how do I get my pdf to come out right? I'm hoping there's some dumb thing I'm forgetting, or a simple fix.

If you don't feel comfortable using Multiply you might want to communicate with the printer and ask if this is an issue for them to reproduce correctly. Some printers using older rips may have issues with transparency. If you can't speak directly with your printer you could mark up the file or make a PDF to accompany the working file with your comments about what prints at what percentage, and if it should overprint or knockout. Years ago I would get a file with transparency in it and have to make sure the designers intent was clear. This was in some cases due to the designer not understanding blend modes or what he/she wanted overprinting or knocking out in the printed piece. The other way you can confirm the separations are going to rip correctly is to print a PDF out of Indesign and open it in Acrobat pro. Under Advanced>Print Production>Output Preview you can turn on and off separations for the 2 spot colors in question. Because PDF acts as your rip in this case you should be seeing what separations your printer will be printing using your native Indesign file. Some print shops will require you to provide a PDF or a color laser print out for QA of your printed piece when sending files to prepress.
