Real problem since backing up following MAC theft

I have real problems with images in my events Libraries as the thumbnails are very low resolution and out of focus, this resolved once a picture has been opened but not until.
It makes viewing albums near impossible, I have started to use iPhoto again as I can't bear to look at out of focus thumbnails ...
I have rebuilt my aperture and this has been like it since reinstalling from time-window following theft of my Mac

Have you tried regenerating your previews? Photos menu, hold option and choose Generate Previews. This may take quite a while depending on the size of your library.

My mac is in real trouble, tried too reinstall lyon, recovery drive is only 650 mb, and 140.3 available.  my mac is 2GB, and I have a lot of free space, I thought maybe I really messed things up by putting some passwords in the address book?
When I tried too reinstall Lion, it said the drive was "locked".    (to reinstall I turned off the computer, hold down comman and r right after it starts).

My only concern about upgrading now rather than
waiting for MacWorld is how great the likelihood
    they
will announce bumps in the speed or other aspects
    of
the iMac hardware, or ILife 07.
Always a guessing a game. But there is a website and
I can't remember which one, sort of buying guide for
mac and they suggest when to buy or hold off on
certain models based on average updates. The 24" is
at the beginning of a cycle so it gets a high "buy
now" rating. Things like the Mac Book Pro and Mac
Books get a "don't buy now" as they are expecting
updates anytime. I'm sure its not foolproof, and I'm
sure we'll all wish we had the newer model when it
comes up. But now is the best time to buy this iMac.

  • How can i fix Connection issues with back to my mac since yosemite upgrade.

Ok I have been having nothing but problems with back to my mac since the upgrade. both machines are using yosemite and I have even reinstalled yosemite on both still having connection issues. anyone else know how I can fix this? I get one of 2 error messages one that says there is a problem connecting and i should make sure screen sharing is active and then another that says the server does not exist. So far to get it working it involves restarting back to my mac or both macs. This is not a good fix since once I disconnect and try to reconnect a few hours later it does it all over again. I am currently in France and needless to say my parents are starting to get really annoyed with constantly having to do things on there end so I can remote into my iMac.Before the yosemite upgrade I maybe had to do this once or twice.

What I have done is open Disk Utility, Repair Permissions, and do that more than once if it returns a lot of errors in the permissions.  Then Restart the Mac.
Also, go to System Preferences > Spotlight and try turning off a couple settings such as search suggestions...these things are taking a lot of resources now.

  • Back to my mac doesn't work since I change from me to iCloud

This feature always worked well in my macbook and my iMac. Since I updated my me account to icloud account I always have the same problem with "back to my mac" the message is I should have a problem with my router with uPnP or NAT-PMP. I have checked all the parameters in my router and finally I think is a problem with icloud.
I don't know if I am the only one with this problem. Why back to my mac worked fine with me account and now with icloud it is not possible?
    Any help will be appreciate.
    Thanks

    Thank for your help.
Finally I could solve the problem. From my point of view is a problem inside the service apple provides with icloud because it didn't happend with me.
So the solution was in my router, in my router there is an option in NAT about DMZ enable with a host address. DMZ means:
"If the demilitarized zone (DMZ) is enabled, the packets that are sent from the WAN and that cannot match any rule are sent to the computer on the LAN side for analysis or other uses, before the packets are discarded by the firewall."
So I enabled this option and I used as a host address my home iMac. After this, I can confirm from my office that back to my mac worked as espected.
    regards

  • Back To My Mac no longer working

For a couple years, I've never had a problem with Back To My Mac. I could control my Mac Mini at home using my Macbook Pro wherever I am. But since Yosemite, I've been unable to use BTMM. Screen Sharing still works fine when I'm at home, but not BTMM when I'm out of the house. Strangely enough, my Time Capsule shows up under "Shared" in a Finder window, but not my Mac Mini.
I've tried deselecting and reselecting Back To My Mac in System Preferences on both my Mac Mini and my MBP. I've tried restarting both machines. But nothing is working.
Oddly enough, it always says "Set up router for better performance" under Back To My Mac in System Preferences > iCloud, no matter where I am and what network I am on.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi Lee Farber,

  • HT4907 Password Issue when attempting to enable Back to My Mac in iCloud Preferences - HELP?

Since upgrading to Mountain Lion, I have a problem enabling Back to My Mac. When I try and enable B2MM in the iCloud preferences window, I am asked to enter my Apple ID password. It says the password is incorrect, even though it IS 100% correct. I've even tried resetting my password (so that the password lives up to the latest security requirements for passwords, etc). So, it's definitely correct, and I'm able to login to my Apple account here (on this Apple laptop as well as on my iPad and iPhone)... it's not an issue when I log in anywhere else... I am only told my password is incorrect when attempting to enable Back to My Mac in the iCloud preferences pane.
    Help?
    Many thanks!

Do these make installation of memeo superfluous? Would I need memeo for daily back up?
From what I gather, you couldn't pay me to use Memeo, nor actually a Seagate enclosure, nor many USB only drives, (USB is not bootable on PPC Macs).
I've used maybe a few dozen backup Apps on the Mac, and I'd personally judge only Apple's Time Machine worse than that one.
If you had it to do all over again, you'd get a case with Firewire, one with an Oxford chipset, not containing a Green Drive, not a Seagate Drive, not less than 7200 RPM drive, & a 32MB Cache, not with a One-Button touch feature, ( not a Bus powered drive like...

  • Why does Back To My Mac work for my Time Capsule, but not my MacBook?

I'm having problems using Back To My Mac from work to my home network. Initially, I thought it was something to do with the way the work network had been set up, but recently I realised that I have no problems connecting to my Time Capsule… It's just that I can't connect to my MacBook Pro. It is showing up in the devices on the left panel, but when I try to connect to it, I get this message:

  • TS1398 im having real problems connecting to my home wifi, it keeps coming up saying unable to join even though the password is correct, this has been ever since i updated software to ios6

Im having real problems connecting to my home wifi from my i phone 4s, it just keeps saying unable to join even though the password is correct,
I have tried resetting my network settings but to no avail,
yesterday I reset all settings then it actually worked, however today the problem started again so I repeated the reset but it still isn't working
This has only started happening since i upgraded software to ios6
    Please help

Here is what I would do:
Shutdown all computers connected to the router.
    Power off the router.
Power off the modem (cable or DSL).
    Wait 30 seconds.
Power on the modem. Ensure all lights are lit and the modem is online.
Power on the router. Ensure it's communicating to the modem.
Turn on your Macbook Pro first (the one experiencing the issue. Check it's connection. If it's still having issues, removed the networks it can attach to, turn off WiFi; then turn WiFi back on and reconnect to your WiFi network.
Turn on other Macs in household. Check their connections.
Sometimes "rebooting" the modem and router fixes connectivity issues.

  • I got a new macbook pro and am having a great deal of trouble with it from the start!  But other than that, which I will get to, I have had macs since the one following Lisa and I am a diehard apple fan, yet now with the macbook pro and Lion and its

I could not download the upgrade to the mountain lion. my updates were taking an enormous amount of time for other programs. When I finally got the indication it was waiting to be downloaded I had to shut down. It was after 2 am and I was practically unconscious already with all the trauma of trying to find the right place for the redeem of the code to open the password. It was all confusing and poorly communicated by Apple. The terrible deterioration of Apple's written communications by non-American techies who can't write for easy understanding, even by this old time tech afficianado is heart-breaking and frustrating is putting the effects mildly.  I have not yet gone back to the mac book pro to finish the job. I am too frustrated and unhappy with the new system.  Also, I found out the hard way that my time capsule saved files on the macbook Snow Leopard, which still works fine after 6 years of use, is locked in that external drive and I cannot transfer the items except one by one or by folders on that computer to a DVD or to a flash drive, to mport to this new computer. Because the systems are not the same, I can't access the files automatically. I fear I will have further problems with the mountain lion vs. lion in seeing those files. What can I do? What should I do?  I am afraid to designate an external hard drive I purchased with the new laptop for the time capsule because then it won't work with any other computer.  I read of terrible incompatibility issues and crashes and things not working right once Mountain Lion was installed and now I am terrified they will happen to me. I just wanted the computer to be as easy to use as all the other macs I have and have had and now it is more like a horribly complicated and difficult Microsoft IBM compatible PC. I hate this. Perhaps Apple wanted to appeal to new Apple users and tried to make them comfortable while disregarding the comfort of loyal Apple users?  It's a sell-out. Meanwhile, I have to get senior tech people because the kids who try to answer my questions much of the time don't interpret what i am telling them and it takes a pro.  Perhaps the kids can answer what I should do in preferenced to scroll the screen, since the scroll indicators disappear and I can't see them and have to resort to using the arrows on the keyboard, which is not the way I like to work.    Please advise me about all of these things!

Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

  • HT4867 Problem, I can no longer admin my kids' computers using back to my mac

Now that the kids need to use their own icloud account to sync the ipods, computers and update apps I can no longer use my ID to manage their computers remotely.  Why not a separate spot to log in for back to my mac outside the icloud ... this is a problem.  Now all of MY comptuers are no longer accessable on my account because of the need for the kids to use other iCloud access to keep their stuff updated.

These are all MY computers ... my teen children just happen to be the ones that use them.  My point / question is aimed at the fact that Apple has now illiminated the last few features that were any use to me by forcing this move to iCloud.
It is not possible to screen share with any computer that is not listed on your back to MY mac  since screen share is part of that same system.
Now that the kids each need to have Icloud access to keep the ipods updated I can no longer do system updates with out sitting in front of each computer to do each update. This is a major waste of my time. Previously, I could just screen share and update them all from my office at MY business.
I was happy paying for mobile me and first they striped out "groups" which was a feature I was using, now they are killing Idisk which I was using and file sharing which I was using and web hosting which I was using, pretty much leaving only features that I have no use for remaining.
I had planned on buying Ipads and few more computers in the near future but I am so disappointed in the direction Apple took icloud I think I am done buying any more Apple hardware until they return some features to Icloud that I need.
Judging from this answer you must not have any teen kids to try to "admin" systems for.  This situation requires Apple to acknolage that they need to add an administration access to back to my mac that works around the individual users ID.
Itunes has a seperate ID access ... why not do the same with Back to My Mac??? Admin level and user level???
Icloud is now totally useless to me.

  • Back to my mac screen sharing no longer works since Mountain Lion release, even on Lion

I've used screen sharing via iCloud and back to my mac between a 2007 macbook and a 2010 imac.  Both computers are still on Lion but screen sharing stopped working when Mountain Lion was released.  I've read a number of comments on this forum that people were having trouble since upgrading to Mountain Lion, but I don't think that's the problem b/c I haven't upgraded either machine.  I think the problem is something Apple did in preparation for the Mountain Lion release date and it seems to have damaged screen sharing functionality.  Anybody else experiencing this or have a fix for it.
As for the specifics, I can still see my "other" machine under shared and can click "share screen," it usually searches for a couple minutes, then pops up the password dialogue box, but then searches for a while and eventually the password box closes, "screen sharing" stays open, but there are no windows associated with it.

I have the same problem, just today (although I'm still running 10.6.8). Every morning I turn on my main Logic mac then fire up my 2 slave macs, connect to them, activate Screen Sharing, and get going.
This morning I tried it, connected to the other macs as usual (I can see/access/alter their hard drives from my main mac) but when I click "Share Screen" I just get the "connecting" dialog box & it just keeps going.
The weird thing is, when I put my laptop into the network via wifi, I can screenshare my main mac's screen (all 3 of them, actually!)  but not my 2 slave macs that are ethernet'd to the main mac.
I've tried every solution I could find via google, and nothing is working.

  • Solution to problems of "Double NAT" or until to Back to My Mac (BTMM)

    Folks,
Here is a couple of easy steps to try to resolve these problems, at least with Qwest ISP / using the ActionTec M1000 aDSL modems / routers.
I struggle for a while on this one and finally found the right information that made this easy.
    Typical MAC configuration:
aDSL connection to your home, via a current technology ActionTek M1000 Modem provided by the ISP in my case Qwest communications. You buy a nice Airport Extreme or Time Capsule and you don't understand why your System Preferences -> MobileMe -> Back to My Mac shows an AMBER indicator and states that you can't use this option due to network / ISP problems.
    So, here's a simple explaination:
By enabling BRIDGE-MODE on the AE (Airport Extreme) you have the ActionTec Modem being the DHCP server for your home network... That's good, if you hibit NAT on the aDSL modem... which isn't initially easy... but it actually is...
So, without drawning pictures: Your configuration should be as follows:
1 -(ActionTek M1000) aDSL modem connected to LINE connection to your household phone outlet
2 - Ethernet WAN connection to the WAN port of the AE
3 - Access the ActionTek Modem via your normal method... http://192.168.0.1
4 - Go to the Quick Setup on the web menus
5 - Make sure you have your aDSL username and password written down (very important)
6 - Goto to the ADVANCED tab on the modem web screen
7 - Scroll down to the button for RFC-1483
Word of caution here... First, anything you do can be undone by using the REST button on the back of the modem - so, don't worry....
Once you click on the RFC 1483 - go done and hit apply... The screen will freeze for a couple of seconds and then you get a THANK YOU page.
The modem will be going through a Power Cycle and watch the lights... You'll see the modem in a idle mode - NOT connecting - Again - don't worry you didn't break anything.
Now, go to your AirPort utility on your MAC that is either connected on the wireless or wired.
I did this entire procedure using wireless, but it's completely up to you.
The airport utility should still see your AE - of course you don't have Internet access right now.
In the Airport Utility - You need to select your AE or Time Capsule whatever you have as a router.
    Go to the MANUAL SETUP
    Goto Internet
Drop down the Connect Using (it should have been Ethernet, switch it to PPPoE
Enter your ISP information that was on the ActionTec Modem
Account Name: [email protected] (in my case)
Password: whatever you had - if you don't have it... You need to call the ISP and get it reset
Verify Password: Yep, type it again....
Sevice name: optional - I didn't provide any
The option below: Connection Sharing will be grayed out and you will see Share a public IP address
    CLICK on UPDATE...
Now.. your on your way.... Unless your prior configuration customized your DHCP setting.
If you get a warning that you have a DHCP error...
Go to the Menu bar - Base Station - Restart
Once the AE restarts.... Repeat the above steps to apply the PPPoE and account information
Once you've entered the information and successfully rebooted the AE... You'll see your aDSL modem
    connecting to the Internet...
    YOUR DONE!
Your AE is the only Router on your network and the ActioTec is only a Ethernet to aDSL converter.
Here is the Qwest document you can follow...
    http://www.qwest.com/internethelp/modems/m1000/modemDetailM1000advanced.html
Performance is exactly what is expected and all the MACs and iPhone in my home are happy...

No, not unless it is simply a network connection.
How is your IPTV being provided.. if it is using a separate vlan or separate vpi/vci in the adsl connection. Who is your ISP?
    Is the TP-Link ADSL?
Is the IPTV using a separate voice channel on adsl?
    Or a different vlan.
Sorry but it is something where a definite answer is not possible unless you provide all the details.
The setups are unique to each ISP around the world..
Here is one for our local ISP.
    http://www.avenard.org/iptv/Setup.html
He has a section on getting this working with apple router over wireless.. look
    http://www.avenard.org/iptv/IPTV_and_Wireless.html
Google around and see if other people have had success.. the whole setup is tricky.. and it is hard if nobody has used it who actually understands networking.

Apple Senior tech lady deleted all my external drive data while sorting out other problem. How can I restore all my photos , music etc back to my Mac Pro?(I am so scared, I haven't connected iPhone to sync! Please help)

It was tele tech. I couldn't open my Page Numbers etc. Frist tech chat idiot - following dumping few things in bin, asked me yo upgrade to Yosemite. But the problem still persists. This morning I was asked to do it via telephone and like yesterday, after wasting 20 min, I was put to this apparent Tech Queen ( my foot!). She eventually decided to reinstall  Yosemite asked me to connect my external drive while I connected to her. She was moving cursor asking me to move files and delete and I followed her like a dummy. It took 3/4 hours and she called me 3 times once the lengthy process was completed. I suspected from the beginng for the fact that why should be asking me to click all my backup from the very beginning! Eventually she said I deleted... Or someone else or may be my children ! It was a blatant lie. I run my small business from home and I was simply staying in front of the Mac whole day! Children were at school. Then she said I must have used another computer! I only have laptop and the iPad. I will talk to their manager first thing in the morning. In the mean time please let me know as to how can I transfer photos, music etc back to my laptop from my Iphone and IPad .? I am will connect to laptop as I am worried the new BLANK iPhoto may supersede iphone/iPad stuff? Will it? Please let me know. I am not a very tech savvy person. My son who could help me, is in Manchester Uni and Inam in London.
