Rebuild permissions for mail data store

I've been running mail services from a copy of our mail database folder on a backup drive while I had a repair done on our server and I'm trying to get the data store back on the main drive. I've got all the data copied and pointed server admin to the folder but I'm getting permission errors with each connect attempt in the logs.
On the backup drive if I look at the permissions for the individual users, I can see them but on the main drive the "system" user is the only user with read/write. How can I rebuild the permissions without individually doing each folder? Maybe there's a way to copy the data and retain the permissions?

If you copy it with "sudo cp -Rp /path/to/backup /path/to/live", it'll preserve ownership and permissions. But if you've been running from the existing copy in the meantime, recopying it from the backup will loose any new messages that arrived into the new copy. It's probably best (if annoying) to change ownership on each user's folder with "sudo chown -R username /path/to/user/folder"

  • ERR:10003 Unexpected data store file exists for new data store

Our TimesTen application crashes and then it can not connect TimesTen datastore, and then we use ttIsql and get error "10003 Unexpected data store file exists for new data store".So we must rebuild the DataStore.
I guess the application damages the datastore because we use "direct-linked" mode. Is it true?
Should I use "Client-Server" mode if our data is very important?
    thx!

Your question raises several important discussion points:
It is possible (though very unlikely in practice) for a C or C++ program operating in direct mode to damage the contents of the datastore e.g. by writing through an invalid memory pointer. In the 11+ years that TimesTen has existed as a commercial product we have so far never seen any support case where this was diagnosed as the cause of a problem. However, it is definitely a theoretical possibility and rigorous program testing and use of tools such as Purify is strongly recommended when developing in C or C++ in direct mode. Java programs running in direct mode are completely 'safe' unless they invoke non-Java code via JNI when a similar risk is present.
The reality is that most customers who use TimesTen in very high performance mission critical applications use mainly direct mode...
Note also that an application crashing should not cause any damage or corruption to a datastore, even if it is using direct mode, as Times%Ten contains explicit mechanisms to guard against this.
Your specific problem (error 10003) is nothing to do with the datastore being damaged. This error reflects a discrepancy between the instance main daemon's metedata about all the datastores that it is managing and the reality. This error occurs when the main daemon does not know about a datastore and yet when it comes to connect to (and hence create) the datastore it finds that checkpoint or log files already exist. The main daemon's metadata is managed solely by the main daemon and is completely separate from the datastore and datastore files (the default location is <tt_instance_install_directory>/info, though you can change this at install time). The ususal cause of this is that someone has been manually manipulating files within that directory (which of course you should never do) and has removed or renamed the .DBI file corresponding to the datastore.
This error should never arise under normal circumstances and certainly not just because some application has crashed.
Rather than simply switching to the (much slower) client/server mode I think we should try and understand why this error is occurring. Could you please post the following:
    1. Output of ttVersion command
and then we can take it from there.
    Thanks, Chris

  • Update Key for Target Data Store

    Hi all.
I have a little problem with a data integration scneario.
We have Progress as a target database for an ETL interface. The data structure is very old, and the tables does not have primary keys. It's not a good idea to create physical constraints for this old structure right now.
In order to use this database as the target I need to provide an update key for the tables. Since I don't have physical primary keys, I'd like to know if there's a way to provide only a "logical" update key for the purposes of the ETL.
    Thanks
    Denis

    Hi,
    A/ First solution:
To create one or more logical key:
1/ In constraint view of your datastore, click Add a key
2/ In the box, give a name for your key
3/ In columns, choice columns for your key
To use it: in your interface, click on the target datastore and choice your key inthe datastore properties.
    B/ Second solution
Directly in your interface, click on your column. In properties, click on "Incremental key". The problem is that this key is specific to this interface.

  • 1003 error:unexpected data store file exists for new data store

    dear chris
when we use timesten, what happened cause the error 1003, I don't know what cause it happen. it works well before. but it happened today twice.
anyone know the reason ?? Any help is appreciated!
    Thanks

The TimesTen daemon maintains a 'catalog' containing information about datastores that it is managing. From the daemon's perspective, a datastroe is uniquely identified by the pathname for the checkpoint files (the value of the DataStore attribute in a DSN definition). The daemon knows nothing about DSNs or ODBC.INI files...
A datastore is physically created, and hence registered with the instance daemon, the first time something connects to it specifying the ODBC/connection attribute AutoCreate=1 (which is the default value). From that point, the datastore has a physical existence (checkpoint and log files exist on disk), is known to the daemon and hence will appear in the output of the ttStatus command.
If at the time you connect to a datastore with AutoCreate=1 and the daemon has no record of the datastore it will try and create it. If it finds that the checkpoint files already exist in the specified location on disk then this is 'unexpected' (since the datastore should not exist yet) and error 1003 results.
Seems like you have somehow got some checkpoint files existing that the daemon does not know about. You have made some kind of mistake somewhere I guess; maybe you copied files around inadvertently?

  • Cannot attach data store shared-memory segment using JDBC (TT0837)

I'm currently evaluating TimesTen during which I've encountered some problems.
All of the sudden my small Java app fails to connect to the TT data source.
Though I can still connect to the data source using ttisql.
Everything worked without problems until I started poking around in the ODBC administrator (Windows 2K).
I wanted to increase permanent data size so I changed some of the parameters.
After that my Java app fails to connect with the following message:
    DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:timesten:direct:dsn=rundata_tt60;OverWrite=0;threadsafe=1;durablecommits=0")
    trying driver[className=com.timesten.jdbc.TimesTenDriver,com.timesten.jdbc.TimesTenDriver@addbf1]
    SQLException: SQLState(08001) vendor code(837)
    java.sql.SQLException: [TimesTen][TimesTen 6.0.4 ODBC Driver][TimesTen]TT0837: Cannot attach data store shared-memory segment, error 8 -- file "db.c", lineno 8846, procedure "sbDbConnect()"
The TT manual hasn't really provided any good explanation what the error code means.
Obviusly I'v already tried restoring the original ODBC parameters without any luck.
    Ideas..anyone?
    /Peter

    Peter,
Not sure if you have resolved this issue or not. In any case, here are some information to look into.
    - On Windows 32-bit, the allocation of shared data segment doesn't work the same way like on Unix and Linux. As a result, the maximum TimesTen database size one can allocate is much smaller on the Windows platform than on other platforms.
    - Windows error 8 means ERROR_NOT_ENOUGH_MEMORY: not enough storage is available to process this command.
    - TimesTen TT0837 says the system was unable to attach a shared memory segment during a data store creation or data store connection operation.
    - What was the largest successful perm-size and temp-size you used when allocating the TimesTen database?
    * One explanation for why you were able to connect using ttIsql is that it doesn't use much of the DLLs, whereas your Java application typically has a lot more DLLs.
    * As a troubleshooting step, you can try reduce your Temp-size to a very small size and just see if you can connect to the data store. Eventually, you may need to reduce your perm-size to get Windows to fit the shared data segment in the process space.
By the way the TimesTen documentation has been modified to document this error as follows:
Unable to attach to a shared memory segment during a data store creation or data store connection operation.
You will receive this error if a process cannot attach to the shared memory segment for the data store.
On UNIX or Linux systems, the shmat call can fail due to one of:
    - The application does not have access to the shared memory segment. In this case the system error code is EACCESS.
    - The system cannot allocate memory to keep track of the allocation, or there is not enough data space to fit the segment. In this case the system error code is ENOMEM.
    - The attach exceeds the system limit on the number of shared memory segments for the process. In this case the system error code is EMFILE.
It is possible that some UNIX or Linux systems will have additional possible causes for the error. The shmat man page lists the possibilities.
On Windows systems, the error could occur because of one of these reasons:
    - Access denied
    - The system has no handles available.
    - The segment cannot be fit into the data section
    Hope this helps.

  • Need to rebuild Outlook 2011 for mac identity for exporting data file.

I was exporting outlook for mac data file (to import it into apple mail), and suddenly Outlook email client crashed and when I tried again it said that I need to rebuild the Outlook for mac database using rebuild utility. I took help from some professional technicians but it was a dead end. They said that my outlook for mac database was corrupt and they could not help me any further. I had years of emails in outlook for mac that I needed to move to apple mail as I was fed up of these frequently occuring outlook 2011 errors. Please if anyone could help me in this case then it will be very helpful.
    Thanks

Outlook for mac stores archives its data in .olm format and it originally stores its mails in .OLK format. If everything has failed then you can seek help of a tool that can recover these .olk14 messages. One tool I know that is capable of doing so is http://www.outlookmacdatabaserecovery.com/.
Look for the trial version first and see of it works and recovers you emails.

  • How is the Mailing Agent permit generated on a mail.dat

The business I work for has multiple permits, and they all appear to be associated with our CRID. I can change the Permit Holder's permit as needed, but I can't seem to change the Mailing Agent permit, and I'm not sure where the information is pulled from. The default permit that always appears on our submitted postage statements is our mailing permit that cannot mail First-Class or Non-profit, and I need to change it to our permit that can. At first I was expecting that I could switch this in Postlsoft, but the further I dig, the more it looks like PostalOne! automatically associates a permit number when it sees our CRID or Mailer ID.
Could anyone confirm this or give some assitance? Thanks

According to PostalOne! Mail.dat tech guide available on RIBBS [https://ribbs.usps.gov/intelligentmail_guides/documents/tech_guides/datspec/PostalOneMailDatTechSpec.pdf]
Mailing Agent (Preparer). This identifies the organization that prepared the mailing and/or delivered it to the postal service for mailing. This information is linked to the useru2019s login account, and is not represented in the Mail.dat file.
To attach a Mail.dat file to a preparer permit, the PostalOne! System looks at the User ID that submitted the file. The system looks at permits linked to the locations that User ID is also linked to. The system looks at the post office of mailing. The system considers finance number association of permits linked to locations to finance number of post office of Mailing. If the system finds more than one permit possibility, system takes first active (type PI) permit (could be any of the linked locations, not necessarily the one that submitted the file). For this reason the attached preparer permit may not be accurate and the user may not be able to fix it.
In the Mailing Agent block on the Postage Statement, the company name and address information found from the associated CRID in the Mail.dat MPA Preparer CRID shall be displayed. If the Mail.dat file MPA Preparer CRID is used, then the preparer permit number, telephone number, email address, or customer number will not be displayed. The submitter of the Mail.dat file may update this CRID. The owner of the CRID may update the name and address information associated with the CRID. If the Mail.dat file MPA Preparer CRID is blank, then the Mailing Agent block will be filled with the name and address information found from the preparer permit attached to the Mail.dat file (see above). The preparer permit number and the associated company name, address, telephone number, and email address will be displayed. The name and address information on this permit may be updated by the postal clerk and will apply to subsequent Mail.dat updates.

  • Separate Wiki Data Stores for Virtual Hosts?

Is it possible to set different data stores to be used for the wikis associated with different sites (i.e. virtual hosts) on a Mac OS X Server (Snow Leopard)?
By default they are in "/Library/Collaboration/" and that is applied to ALL hosted sites.
My client would like a little more differentiation than that offered by user and/or group login.
    Thanks in advance.
    +*Geoff Heys*+

    Ditto.
I noticed it when logged in as a user with permissions to a specific wiki on the server, and went to 'My Page', that updates from all the other wikis on the server are listed, in addition to the updates for the wiki I belong to. I can't get to them by clicking on the links, but they show up in the list. Makes it pretty hard to focus on your wiki, when you see updates from multiple other wikis listed.
It would seem like there must be a fix in the code for both the 'My Page' and the generic top-level '/groups', but I don't know the code structure well enough yet to figure out how/where to fix it.
Anyone else find a solution for this? I don't think I can roll out multiple domains/wikis on one server, if this behavior is present.

    Model - iphone 5
    IOS 8.0.2
    Problem Description
After enabling cellular data, i am receiving mails even if we disable "use cellular data for mail", due to this data usage usage use is more, if we have fix please let me know.
    Steps:
    1. Enable Cellular Data
    2. Disable mail on "use cellular data for mail
    3. check whether mail is received or not
tried multiple times and i am getting more billing amount because of data usage

Mail isn't the only app using data. Turning it off there has no effect whatsoever on whether the rest of iOS or other apps you have installed. In fact most apps use data these days, at a minimum for Notifications and often for gameplay and other features.
