Recommend a HD Camcorder with iMovie08?

Hi,
I've been waiting for the hard disk cameras to support iMovie before I upgrade from my current Sony cassette based camcorder. Last time I checked none of the hard disks could directly import to iMovie. Now that I've purchased iLife08, I'm wondering if there are good quality hard disk digital cameras that are compatible. I saw the iLife08 demo where they showed a Panasonic with flash memory and USB output. Do you recommend that one? What is the model number of that one? Does anyone know? I would appreciate some advice before I purchase a new one since I've been very happy with my old Sony digital. I want to upgrade to a smaller more compact camera that has a hard disk so that I don't have to rewind cassettes nor play off a CD.
Thanks.
Elencita

I like Canon MUCH better than Sony. Sony is a direct competitor of Apple and as such I think they support Apple with reduced enthusiasm.
Canon makes excellent equipment and their technical support people always seem Macintosh savvy (They were very familiar with iMovie).

I use my Canon with iMovie 06 and iDVD 08. (and occasionally with iMovie 08)
If I plan to make a DVD I will always use iMovie 06, if I want to share a movie on the Internet I will use iMovie 08.

  • 1 Step iDVD for camcorder with disk

My Sony Camcorder uses 8cm disk. I tried 1 step dvd; a disk was not created. I removed the plist as recommended to "jferf" on 5/3/07; no disk created. Can iDVD work for a camcorder with disk or only with tape?
IMAC 5.1   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   USE AIRPORT EXPRESS

    Welcome kiron
For best results use a camcorder with firewire or i.Link interface and one step via iDVD6. Normally this involves a mindv device that records to tape with FW input/output.
Not intended for use with cameras that record to a hard drive or to a DVD since that format /mpeg 2 is already highly compressed and cannot be imported directly into iDVD6 w/o a 3rd party app. Long and complicated process that invloves apps like mpeg streamclip or Visual Hub.
Apple's pro apps will work directly with mpeg2 format also.
Btw, you can use iDvd's one step directly with a Folder/QT file also. In other words, if you were able to create a QT folder on your desktop, then you could use the one step feature within iDVD6 ....
Hope this is Helpful & Solves the problem.

  • How to import and edit a 3D video made with Sony HDR-TD10E camcorder, with .MVC file?

How to import and edit a 3D video made with Sony HDR-TD10E camcorder, with .MVC file?
    I have PremierePro-CS5 installed.
This stereo 3D camcorder (Sony HDR-TD10E), output an .MVC (MultiViewCoding) file, coded in H.264 format.
This format is already compatible with Bluray3D stereoscopic format.
    1) But, how to edit the .MVC in Premiere?
    2) What plugin should I use (if exists) for PremiereProCS5?
    3) Cineform Neo3D, can manage the .MVC format? Can convert it to Cineform format file, for import it into Premiere?
    4) What software should I use to convert an .MVC video to an AVCHD H.264 file, and import it into PremierePro CS5 or CS5.5 for editing?
    Thanks!
    Horsepower0171.

Sorry, I am Italian, it is very difficult for me to understand what he says!
I can just read the english text, or follow the actions of a videotutorial!
Thus my question is the same:
    -What software can do that?
-Sony Vegas 10 do the Bluray3D authoring?
-For MVC editing, should I wait for Adobe CS6? Or is it planned an update for CS5.5?

i tried to get the installation disc for the camcorder but mac wont' recognize it becaue it is windows based i guess.
i just bought the camcorder a few months ago and when my computer crashed thought i'm finally getting a mac...it's been a costly venture which has resulted in more frustration than before my pc.
now the things i want to use with my mac that i thought would be even simpler...are not even useable...
    help

That camera shoots H.264 in an .avi wrapper.
You will have to transfer the files via the Finder.
Get a free copy of MPEG Streamclip and convert them to QuickTime .mov using the H.264 codec if you are presumably editing in iMovie.
Note that your list of video codecs won't look like mine as I have Final Cut Pro, but H.264 is definitely an option for you.

  • Which Camcorder with HD?

I want to buy a camcorder '' Any reccomendations for which camcorder with built in HD..I should consider. Obviously must have firewire d/load. L

    Hi,
We have the Sony HDR HC3 and are really enjoying it. I'm also pleased to say that it works wonderfully with iMovieHD.
Here's a review. There's a bunch on the net. Not sure what this one says though... just a high hit on Google.
I believe its no longer available on Sony's site as they have replaced it with some newer models - but we are happy.
    YMMV.

With all of the applications available, what other applications recommended to use along with Captivate 8.  I do not heed to install all of them, just what I need.

Personally I use both Photoshop and Audition (both in CC) a lot when using Captivate 8. There is roundtripping possible with those two Adobe applications. If you have a CC subscription try it out! And when needing HTML5 output, you can insert published Edge Animate files, to replace former Flash animations. As you can see in CP8, Edge Inspect can be used to test the output on mobile devices without having to publish or to deploy on a webserver.

did recent recommended update cause incompatibility with HP printer, causing error message and printer to print blank pages?

Why not contact HP tech support for assistance since they make the printer. While on their site you can look for an updated printer driver. Otherwise, try deleting the current installed driver, reset the print system, then reinstall your printer's driver.

  • Can the 32GB Full HD Camcorder with Projector HDR-PJ710V download to my xperia tablet for playback?

Can the 32GB Full HD Camcorder with Projector HDR-PJ710V download to my xperia tablet for playback?  Thanks, Ron

    Hello Ron,
    Welcome to the Sony Community.
The video format supported by the Tablet is .MP4, whereas the format of the videos recorded in the Camcorder is AVCHD. Therefore, the videos recorded in the Camcorder will not playback directly in the Tablet. You may use a video editing software and convert the AVCHD videos to MP4 format.

  • Need help finding MiniDV camcorder with AV in

    Hi,
I'm shopping for a MiniDV camcorder. Besides using it to make movies with iMovie, I want to be able to transfer analog video (i.e., VHS) into the unit. I understand that some MiniDV camcorders have an AV/in port for this. I'm having trouble finding such a unit. I'm looking to spend up to $500. Can you please lead me to one or two? Thanks.

    James,
Here's a popular model by Sony. (Ya can't go wrong with a Sony).

    from Sony $649,
    from PricGrabber.com $515 - $937 (depending on merchant)
Above all things, do your homework on camcorder model (features) and price.

  • Sony HD Camcorder with hard drive-compatibility with a mac

I am considering purchasing a new Sony HD camcorder with an internal hard drive but it appears the hd format is not compatible with a mac. Does this sound correct and if so do we know how long til they can work together. Sony stated that mac would not be able to read the hd formatting? Sony model HDR-SR1

    Thanks for adding consumer comments.
No sound in QuickTime (with the Playback Component installed) is probably created by Sony (not Apple). I'll bet they use their own "scheme" (proprietary codecs).
Your "conversions" from MPEG-2 format to DV Stream do look good. But they would look even better if the source format was DV Stream to begin with.
Because your camera records in MPEG-2 format it must first "compress" your video. DV Stream is 13 GB's an hour. MPEG-2 compresses this down so you're losing data from your "true" source.
If someone from Sony was passing these cameras out on a street corner I would walk on by.
I would consider a HD recorder if it kept the file as DV Stream and included a Firewire connection. Sony does this with their "tape" machine but they call Firewire "iLink".

  • Minidv camcorder with USB

    Hi,
the new macbook has no firewire so i ask if there is any minidv camcorder with usb for importing video in iMovie 08?
It should be a minidv camcorder.
    Michael

Thats not the problem. I have several macs with firewire.
The problem is that i have an 9 year old canon dv camcorder and for this certainly several tapes stored.
So i'm looking for a camcorder with tapes and HD .
My son, who also does some video editing on his macbook (2,16 with firewire) wants a new macbook witch has no firewire.
I know that i can import the video on my macbook pro, copy it to an external drive, connect that to the macbook. Fine, but you know how much time this will take.
Therefore my question for an hdv camcorder with USB video import.
I hope the manufactuers will come out with such a camcorder.

  • HD Camcorder with iMovie/iMac etc....

Finally got an HD 1080p television! Now the question is what about my camcorder. I have a 6 yr old sony Mini DV camcorder with 4x3 picture and of course no HiDef...Is there a camcorder out there that will allow me to take videos on a vacation, get home download into my iMac, and then edit, burn to a DVD and then watch on my new TV in full HD?

Look at HDV (high def tape) camcorders. They will work with iMovie HD or HD6, but you would also need Toast and a Blu ray DVD burner in order to get a HD DVD.
Does your present miniDV allow you to shoot 16:9 and 4:3? I have found the 16:9 SD video from my camcorder plays beautifully on my HD plasma TV after upscaling in my Blu ray player.
    Look at HDV cams here:

  • Flash memory camcorder with Mini DV quality

I don't know much about camcorders, but right now I have a cannon mini DV camcorder.  I'd like to get a flash memory camcorder with comparable quality.  Last Christmas my brother got an insignia brand which he returned due to grainy/jumpy video.  Any suggestions?

Was the Insignia brand one of the "pocket" ones?  (To my knowledge they only produced "pocket" style cams.)
Nearly all of the "pocket" flash camcorders are cheap and relatively low-quality.  In some situations they can perform well, but nowhere near as well as a proper flash camcorder.  The Insignia pocket camcorders are even worse.  I tried their high definition unit, and it was vastly inferior to even most other pocket camcorders.
To get good quality (comparable to your miniDV camcorder) go for a full-featured flash memory unit like the Canon FS series camcorders.
Unfortunately within the standard definition camcorder market, each camcorder seems to have a major deficiency.  Canon FS series use electronic image stabilization and not optical image stabilization.  Most of the others lack the external microphone that the FS series does have.
The Canon HF series high definition camcorders are excellent.  I have an HF100 and love it.  It is more expensive and requires a beefy computer to work with the video, but the quality is great.  Canon HF-series camcorders were actually used to film some scenes in Crank 2: High Voltage.  (I believe they were used to record in-vehicle video for some of the car crashes.)

  • Can video be loaded to ipad from any camcorder with a usb (video out) cord?

Using the camera connection kit usb adaptor, can video be downloaded to an iPad2 from any camcorder with a usb (video out) cord?  Would the video then be accessed via iTunes?

    From http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4101 :
iPad Camera Connection Kit imports most media files on the camera or SD card, regardless of whether that format is compatible with iPad. If you are unable to view certain images or videos, verify that they are in an iPad compatible format, or import them to your computer for viewing.
They should then be accessible from your computer, but not via iTunes : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083

I'm about to buy a keyboard, does anyone have a recommendation re best connectivity with Garageband? I've read about difficulties in this area

Most any USB keyboard is fine, it's a matter of budget and what keyboard tactile feel you prefer... they all work by plugging a USB cable from the keyboard to the computer and are recognized automatically.
Most have either a shift button that permits some mapping of instruments and other MIDI advanced stuff, others have dedicated buttons and displays. But any of them out of the box in default configuration is plug and play.
