Shut down the notebook. Tap away at f10 as you start the notebook to enter the bios menu. Under the Advanced or Diagnostic tab you should find the facility to run a tests on the whole Hard Drive. Post back with the details of any error messages.

I woke up today around 9:30 am UK Time, checked my emails on my phone and then started playing "Talking Ginger" kids game because of one of the offers, around 10:00 I noticed an email alert on top of my iphone screen about itunes receipt.
When I opened this, it was about "Kids Song Collection" purchase reciept for £1:49.
I was shocked because first of all my 3 years old daughter is sleeping, secondly I have security settings configured in iphone with a complex password to purchase and she does not know that password and thirdly I am using the phone and I know I didn't even open App Store or that app so how come this has happened. I did a search on google about how to report and tried to follow the process through itunes but every time I click on "report a problem in itunes" this opens a new apple page in firefox "http://www.apple.com/uk/support/itunes/"
Whilst further browsing Purchase History in itunes I also noticed another purchase from yesterday about "FireWorks Arcade" and this was unbelieveable because I didn't even receive any receipt yesterday about that purchase and again I am the only one who can make purchases due to the complex password known only to myself.
I am not sure what is going on here, but clearly as per today's incident it seems that apple is loosing their control.
Please advise what can be done here. -
Recently installed Diadem and there must be some sort of registry error. Whenever I startup I get the error "Attempted to start multiple instances of the service" anyone know the registry fix for this? Thanks!

Check your services and see what’s running. This can be done by going to Start>>Run and type “services.msc”. Then look for anything that starts with National Instruments or NI. Look to see if there are any entries running twice or if you are trying to call a service that is already running.

Open directory list not showing at startup, where do i start to look
If my suite of iMacs are not picking up the open directory list at startup and I know they have the correct details, what process should I go through to find the problem. The server all looks ok, but after recent changes made by our local authority the list no longer shows up.
The server is running 10.5
Could DNS be the problem for example. I have limited experience of setting up osx servers.
Regards Peter.I presume you mean the login window is not listing the Open Directory user accounts? This actually is the normal default behaviour for the login window.
Is your login window showing just two boxes for the user name and password, or is it listing just local user accounts? If it is listing some user accounts is "Other" in that list?
When I used to run 10.5 Server, I used to create a Computer Group, add all my client computers to that group and set a managed preference for that group to force my client computers to show a full list of Open Directory accounts. You do this as follows -
Launch Workgroup Manager
Login to Workgroup Manager
If you don't already have a suitable one, create a new Computer group
If needed add all your client computers to this Computer group
Now with that Computer group still selected, click on the Preferences icon at the top of the Workgroup Manager window
Click on the Login choice on the left
You should now see at the top a set of radio buttons for Never, Once, or Always - choose Always
If you now look in the main part of the window you should see options for things like Style - List of users (which is what you want) and under that tick boxes for Show network users (which is also what you want)
When you have set things as desired, click on the Apply Now button in the bottom right
You will need to reboot the client computer to test this
Note: If you have a really large number of user accounts it might take a while to draw the list of accounts in the Login screen. I had about 70 and it was fairly fast. -
I continuously have problems making calls from my iphone 4S. When I place a call and press send, you hear nothing until I turn on and off the speaker button and then you hear the ring tone or the person answering. This happens normally on land line calls but does occur when calling mobile phones somethimes. Is this a common problem or is there a fix for it? Thanks

I have tried rebooting the MacBook several times as well as resetting it. If I turn it off and then turn it back on while holding "option" a mouse appears on the screen but nothing else. This started earlier today when the screen froze and I had to restart the computer (with the CD still in it). I have not been able to get back to the computer since.
That folder with the question mark icon means that the MacBook can't find the boot directory. That can either mean it can't find the hard drive or the operating system files on the hard drive are somehow corrupted or damaged.
If you don't have your install disks you can get the 10.4 gray disks by calling AppleCare. 1-800-APL-CARE (1-800-275-2273) They can send them to you for about $16 per disk plus S & H. Just give them your serial number and they'll know which ones you need. With the original disks you also get the iLife that was current when your MacBook was bought included on the #2 disk.
Or if you don't have any files you want to recover from your hard drive you can get Snow Leopard for $29 if you have at least 1gb of RAM and a working DVD drive. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY You would then erase and reformat your hard drive and install Snow Leopard. You won't need the box set unless you want the latest iLife and iWork. If you only want iPhoto or other single apps you can get them from the App Store in 10.6.6. iPhoto, iMovie and Garage Band for $15 each and Pages, Keynote and Numbers for $20 each.
If you have files you want to recover you can get a larger hard drive and put your old hard drive in an external case. After you install the Mac OS on the new hard drive you can plug in the old hard drive in the external case by the USB connection and try to access it that way.

Interactive report performance problem over database link - Oracle Gateway

This is regarding a thread Interactive report performance problem over database link that was posted by Samo.
The issue that I am facing is when I use Oracle function like (apex_item.check_box) the query slow down by 45 seconds.
query like this: (due to sensitivity issue, I can not disclose real table name)

WHERE a.col3 = 12345

AND b.col5 = a.col5
table_one and table_two are remote tables (non-oracle) which are connected using Oracle Gateway.
Now if I run above queries without apex_item.checkbox function the query return or response is less than a second but if I have apex_item.checkbox then the query run more than 30 seconds. I have resolved the issues by creating a collection but it’s not a good practice.
I would like to get ideas from people how to resolve or speed-up the query?
Any idea how to use sub-factoring for the above scenario? Or others method (creating view or materialized view are not an option).

Okay, I have a million questions (could you tell me if both tables are from the same remote source, it looks like they're possibly not?), but let's just try some things first.
By now you should understand the idea of what I termed 'sub-factoring' in a previous post. This is to do with using the WITH blah AS (SELECT... syntax. Now in most circumstances this 'materialises' the results of the inner select statement. This means that we 'get' the results then do something with them afterwards. It's a handy trick when dealing with remote sites as sometimes you want the remote database to do the work. The reason that I ask you to use the MATERIALIZE hint for testing is just to force this, in 99.99% of cases this can be removed later. Using the WITH statement is also handled differently to inline view like SELECT * FROM (SELECT... but the same result can be mimicked with a NO_MERGE hint.
Looking at your case I would be interested to see what the explain plan and results would be for something like the following two statements (sorry - you're going have to check them, it's late!)

AND b.col5 = a.col5If the remote tables are at the same site, then you should have the same results. If they aren't you should get the same results but different to the original query.
We aren't being told the real cardinality of the inners select here so the explain plan is distorted (this is normal for queries on remote and especially non-oracle sites). This hinders tuning normally but I don't think this is your problem at all. How many distinct values do you normally get of the column aliased 'x' and how many rows are normally returned in total? Also how are you testing response times, in APEX, SQL Developer, Toad SQLplus etc?

Purchase History Report a Problem feature
I was looking at my purchases and clicked the Report a Problem button, but the only thing that happened was that the button disappeared. Odd. Were they just joking? . . . "Ha-ha-ha, did you believe that? Just messin' with you. Bye-bye little button."
Well, ok, they must be serious, but the button just disappeared when I clicked on it, no joke.I'm a novice to this community discussion board so bear with me. I have reported problems with apps in the past and done the steps I have done above and it came up with a drop down list of selected problems you simply chose one and sent it. This time round though I seem to have been redirected to the Apple Support screen which is a screen with multiple tutitorials, ranging from getting started in itunes, how to load apps etc, different devices I can't seem to figure out how to just report a problem. I then choose app (which seems to be the closest choice) and I just seem to go in circles. It's not itunes that is the problem it is the developers of the app as many others have the same problem with the app crashing my next best thing is to wait for an update for the developer to fix the bugs. Which I hope they read the reviews left by consumers. Thanks for your reponse though.

TS1702 I don't understand how the report a problem process works
I was advised by an app support team member that I need to report a problem on their app to get my money refunded. The purchase was an in-app purchase for an upgrade to MVP in the Mapmyride app.The mapmyride support said that thre is a bug in their app tha will not allow such in-app upgrade. I went to my itunes account and picked the report a problem button and nothing happened. I expected it to go farther to ask me what the problem was and there was nothing. Is there more for me to do to get my money refunded for this purchase? my purchase was on 3/28 in the mapmyride app. Thankyou.
There are two ways in which drop zones are available in the Keynote title template. What Luis has shown you is the normal way in which a title placed over a clip shows you the original clip with the title text. That is called a Final Cut placeholder type of drop zone. Keynote also offers a drop zone to be used as a background choice instead of a gradient or solid as you see in Luis's post. This makes a very nice title effect as you can use any clip for that background. That is what I thought you were refering to when you you said drop zone. Keynote is one of the nicer titles we have available in FCP because of this feature. Glad you got it sorted out.

Fail to report a problem in iTunes?
Made a mistake and I would like to return an application I just bought on iTunes. The procedure to follow is:
To report an accidental purchase:
1- Locate the item in your Purchase History
2- Click the "Report a Problem" link
3- Select "I inadvertently purchased this item" from the drop down menu
4- Enter notes explaining the situation in the Comments section
THE PROBLEM:

Trouble shoot mac problems on a pc?
I am developing my AIR project on a PC, the project runs as
desired on the PC, but is having several problems on the Mac I am
testing on.
It is becoming extremely painful trying to trouble shoot the
problem, I have to change 1 line at a time, then compile the .air
file, then install it on the mac, then see if theres a difference.
(I cant use the debuger on my pc because its running fine on the
pc).
so I was wondering if anyone knew a better way to trouble
shoot this?
