Recovery mode issue.

my ipod works fine and i can connect to my itunes on my computer at home. but when i try to connect to itunes on my computer at work, it says that my ipod is in recovery mode and i have to restore. i dont want to restore because it works fine at home. i have connected to itunes on different computers before, so i'm wondering what is preventing me from connecting to itunes on this one computer?

+but when i try to connect to itunes on my computer at work, it says that my ipod is in recovery mode and i have to restore.+
If the PC at work is running XP or 2000, check for a Windows drive letter confusion, as per the following document:
Windows confuses iPod with network drive or hard drive and may keep iPod from mounting or songs may seem to disappear

  • IPhone Software/Recovery Mode Issue

After updating my iPhone Software a few moments ago, my iPhone appears to no longer work (I can't get past the apple icon start screen, which keeps refreshing) and iTunes is saying that the iPhone is in recovery mode. I now am being offered the option of restoring the iPhone as the only way to get it working again. Is there any other way here to not lose the 700 photos and other personal information I have amassed on my iphone and get my iphone working again (my software update seems to have also wiped all my photos of off iPhoto). Help very much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Antal

    Hey iPhone Owner 17,
Restoring the iPhone is the only option when it is in recovery mode. You can try resetting though: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305743
You should have a backup in iTunes from the last time the iPhone was synced. Check iTunes> Preferences> Syncing. That backup will recover the pictures taken on the iPhone.]
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305744
Just restore and after restoring, iTunes will ask you if you want to recover from backup or setup as a new iPhone.

  • Please help. Recovery Mode issues

My iPod touch ran out of battery last night, and as normal, i went to go plug it in to charge it. Instead of charging, it is frozen on a screen that says "connect to iTunes". When I connect to itunes, it says that my iPod is in recovery mode, and that I need to restore it before it can be used with iTunes. I have over 6,000 photos on my iPod that I have taken throughout the years, and I'd rather not have them all deleted. Is there a way that i can fix my iPod without restoring it?

No, you have to restore the iPod via iTunes and thus erase the iPod.

  • I phone randomly went into recovery mode

I plug my iphone in every night to charge and the battery life was at about 80-90% before I went to bed. I woke up and saw that it wouldnt turn on or anything. Its like it was dead. I plugged it in to my computer and opened itunes and it said my phone was in recovery mode and i had to restore it to the original factory settings. Why did it do this?! it is completely inconvenient and is making me hate the phone!

I am also having this issue. Running iOS 4.0.1. My iPhone seems to go into recovery mode without any apparent cause. Typically, this happens overnight, but recently the problem has become more frequent, and also has now happened once in an interval of 15 minutes between setting the phone to sleep, and trying to resume use of it. I have tried to restore my phone several times, and while this initially seemed to help (there was a time when this issue was happening almost nightly), eventually the recovery mode issue has begun to recur. I have held off on updating my system software until I can find out more about what might cause this problem.
Of course, holding down Home+On for 10+ seconds will force boot the iPhone, but this really shouldn't be happening in the first place.

  • Update Sent iPhone into Recovery Mode

A friend told me about the update so I connected my iPhone to my computer and chose "Update." I got an error that ended with my phone in "Recovery Mode." iTunes recognizes it as an iPhone in recovery mode and I choose "Restore" but what seems to be most of the way through the restore I get an error saying (direct quote) "The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (6)." After I first had problems I updated iTunes, but that didn't help. I'm on hold with phone support. I've yet to talk to anyone.

I also experienced the "recovery mode" issue. After distilling some of the recent posts here and related topics, here's what I found worked for me. (1) Delete iTunes 7.6 update, download and install iTunes 7.6 from Apple's website. (Good idea to back up your iTunes library just in case). (2) If you have tried several restores of the iPhone without success, navigate to //user/library and delete the several backup files there. (3) Reset your iPhone (simultaneously press home and power key until Apple logo appears). Turn iPhone off (press power key until screen blanks). (4) Plug in your iPhone and you'll hopefully see that the software and firmware is being restored. (This takes a while). After that, you'll see the message that your iPhone files are being restored, however you have them set in iTunes. One note -- though I'm not sure why, having your iPhone plugged directly into your machine's USB port rather than through a hub may prevent device polling from corrupting the iPhone restore process. This worked for me -- not sure if similar process would work on Windows boxes or not. After about an hour of messing with it, now have updated iPhone fully functional (again) with new features.

My iPhone 5s on ios 8.1.2 is stuck at Apple logo or recovery mode.. To fix this issue, i need to update it to ios 8.2 through itunes.. I want to ask that my data i.e. Photos and other personal data would be removed after updating it or not..?
if yes then how can i save my data or get out of recovery mode.. Is there any safe mode or something like that on which i could access my data..
P.S. I have not taken any backup of my iPhone on itunes..
Please help me sort out this issue..

Recovery mode doesn't mean that all your data is already lost. You only lose your data if you restore it.
When you plug the phone is into iTunes hold down the home button. iTunes may then give you the option JUST to update the software first. This should not get rid of any data.
However, if iTunes is only giving you the option to RESTORE and update, then you will lose your data I'm afraid.
    Hope that helps!

  • Has any one figured out how to fix an issue I'm having. My iPhone 5 randomly shuts off by itself. Then it won't turn on when i try to hook it up to iTunes it says its in recovery mode. so then i hit restore and its been stuck on waiting for iPhone.

This happened after I did a software update on my phone about a month and a half ago. My phone will randomly shut off by itself and wont come back on. I had spoke with an apple repair person over the phone who told me to hold in the home button and then plug it into my computer. When the iphone said that there was an error and gave him a code he suggested that I send it in. So I did and about a week and a half later I get it back and its on. Yet the problem still occurs. It shut off twice in the same day and for several hours would not come on. When it did I called apple again and they ran a diagnostic on my phone and said it was a software issue. So then why was it not fixed? They told me they could not duplicate the problem. And now it happens about once or twice a week now. And its happening right now. I have it plugged into my computer and the apple logo with a bar below it has been on for about 20 min now. And itunes is still saying "waiting for iphone."

    Hello Elliiee,
The steps detailed below can help stabilize your iPhone.
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
My issue is still not resolved. What do I do next?

Try to Restore with iTunes on your computer. If this does not work, there is full Warranty. Make Genius reservation or set up service and take or send to Apple for resolution.

if your computer is not recognizing it, try using a different USB port or different usb cable. if that doesnt work you will need to uninstall and reinstall itunes.

  • HT4623 ipad stuck in recovery mode. How do I fix the issue?

I attempted to update my ipad. I downladed the update to itunes and proceeded to install onto the ipad. The installation failed, and now the ipad is stuck on whats apparently recovery mode. When i attempt to connect the ipad to itunes (on a windows 7 platform) the computer gives the notification that it is connected but itunes wont recognize the ipad. How do i actually put the ipad through a recovery to put an end to this situation?

This should help.  You may have to try the process of placing into recovery mode more than once to succeed.

  • Issues updating iPhone5 to iOs 7. Stuck in recovery mode.

I have been trying to update my iphone 5 to ios7 using itunes. When I connect, it starts to download the software. After 1- 2 hours of downloading, it sticks and says it can't connect to itunes server and goes back to some kind of recovery mode and is unusable. There is no problem with the internet connection. It is timing out when it tries the last part, around 2/3rds of the way through. Can anyone help as I can't go back to ios 6.

Placing your device into recovery (DFU-Device Firmware Upgrade) mode:
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
       1. Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the
other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
       2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds
until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
                  * If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the
Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off,
release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
      3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the
device. The device should turn on. Note: If you see the battery charge warning,
let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some
charge, and then start with step 2 again.
      4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen.
When this screen appears you can release the Home button:
      5. If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:
      6. Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
    Additional Information:
If you have a problem getting into recovery mode then try: RecBoot: Easy Way to Put iPhone into Recovery Mode.
Note: When using recovery mode, you can only restore the device. All user content on the device will be erased, but if you had previously synced with iTunes on this computer, you can restore from a previous backup. See this article for more information.
