Red light on lower controller

Hello Everybody,
I need help on this. The lower controller on on of the Xserve raid has a red light and says failure on raid admin. Firmware is 1.5/1.50f. Everything looks like it's working fine, read/write and no dropframes so far. What should I do? Should I replace the controller? Reseat it? Will I lose all my data?
Please advise.
Thanks,
Helmut

I think this was covered in the update for bootcamp.

  • Very low volume on headphone jack on MBP 13" but no red light

Hi I am looking for solution for my problem where in I am currently getting very low volume on headphone jack. There was no problem before, everything used to work perfectly fine.
I couldn't find comprehensive solution for this. Could anyone please point me to the correct thread if solution is already available.
    my details:
MBP 13" Snow leopard, 10.6.5 - First Gen. Unibody MAC.
problem: Very low volume when headphone is connected.
    Things: I have tried:
    1. Headphone is fine. Works correctly on windows PC and on my iphone.
    2. Tried system pref. volume is max.
    3. Upon connecting headphone to MBP it is detected as headphone.
    4. Tried Audio MIDI setup, settings seem to be correct 44.1KHz 2ch-16 bit
    5. There is NO red light from headphone jack.
6 Tried poking toothpicks in to audio out but didn't help.
7 Tried creating new temp. admin user account but headphone low volume remains.
    8. Tried safe boot - no joy.
9 Safe boot was followed by normal boot-> Ran Disk Util tried repair permission. No luck.
    10. Also followed steps to clear PR RAM etc. - problem remains.
    11. Heard about logic board replacement but don't want to go by that route.
Can anyone point me to correct thread or provide the solution..
    help is much appreciated.
    Thanks...

I have the exact same problem. i have  a macbook pro 13in (mid 2009) with extremely low volume coming from headphone jack. i brought the computer into my local apple store today and they diagnosed my problem as being the result of a faulty logic board. my laptop is out of warranty so they have to send it to the apple repair depot for 3-5 days. the charge is a flat $280 (tax not included). the solution seems extreme though and i hope i don't get any "kernel panicking" with a new board. i will update... also there is no accidental damge to my laptop whatsoever. the problem arrose 2-3wks ago

  • ONT VID red light - optical power too low

When technician installed FiOS two months ago, he told me the red light might be due to the construction work (new community, lot of houses are being built here) where "the box" is.  And it should go away after the construction if not I was told to call Verizon.  That is what I did this morning but they refuse to send someone to look at it because they don't see anything wrong from their computer.  What gives?!   I mean I don't have any service issue right now but I'm afraid I might have service interruption in the future, and if I do, I don't want to wait several days without cable and internet for technician to fix it.

We have not received a response in reference to your issue. Please repost if you are still experiencing a problem.

  • Drives say "not installed" in RAID Admin on lower controller

    hi all,
I'm trying to re-establish connection to an Xserve RAID which has been in storage for some time. I can see all the drives and the RAID array and its data on the upper controller no problem (using RAID admin). However the three drives on the lower controller all show a red status light, and RAID Admin actually says "not installed" for each of the three drives.
Its critical i get access to the data on these drives. Its very unlikely all three drives experienced a complete failure at the same time so don't even show up as inserted into the Xserve - does this sound like a faulty controller?
what can i do to confirm the problem, and does anyone have any suggestions for resolving it wthin the Xserve RAID and/or otherwise getting access to the data?
could I plug another empty drive i know is working into a spare bay on the lower controller and if it doesnt show up as present in RAID Admin assume that the controller is definately faulty?
if the controller is faulty, is there any way of replacing the controller and installing the three discs and getting back access to them?
I'm no Apple expert, any help appreciated.
    nathan

Hello natrat22, and welcome to the AppleBoards,
+if the controller is faulty, is there any way of replacing the controller and installing the three discs and getting back access to them?+
If you want to test the controller the easiest way is to turn the unit off, unplug it, swap the controllers and start it up again. The fan, power and controller units are completely part swappable so that should be pretty easy.
Check the Xserve RAID docs for more information: http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/XserveRAID_UserGuide.PDF
The general Xserve RAID area is here: http://www.apple.com/support/xserveraid/
It might also help if you were describe the drive/RAID configuration you're trying to resurrect.
    Good luck,

When I today tried to charge it, after connected to my PC (in the right USB port) I heard sound of connecting device but in Windows in My Computer nothing happened. On the iPod the diode emitted the red light for 5 seconds and then turned off. I have iTunes and iTunes doesn't recognize the iPod too.
Does anybody know what is wrong?

  • Xperia S does not turn on, red light when charging.

My phone, after spending a day on a boat, was low on battery (this was 2 hours after leaving on the drive home). It went from 6% battery to shutting down completely in a matter of seconds. I plugged it into my car charger immediately, but it has not turned on since. Previously i have had problems with the headphone jack not recognising if earphones were plugged in or not, but this usually resolved within a few minutes. On top of this i have once struggled to turn the phone on due to i believe a once off problem with the power button.
Recently the headphone jack has been playing up a lot more than usual, but it never resulted in this.  I have never experienced any other problem with the phone. PROBLEM: Once it turned off, I have been unable to restart my phone. When charging it shows a dull red light like when charging less than 15% battery. I have charged it now, on and off using multiple different charges for 6 hours, and have left it on its original charger as i write this. The power button plus volume up has no effect. There is no vibrations when i turn on the device. The screen which usually loads something when charging, has not displayed anything since turning off. It does not connect to either an apple or windows computer with a usb cable, volume down key depressed or not. It does not get hot to touch while charging, and i remember according to AVG that the battery quality that day was "good". After 6 hours of charging, the red light is still there(and usually a full charge after 1.3 hours, leaves a green light) Put simply, the only responce of any kind i get from the phone is a red light when charging. What have i done? recharged the phone for 6 hours, tried power button, restart button combo, usb connection with both an apple and windows computer, i also put it in rice in case there was any water but did not change anything. anything changed? after 2 hours of charging on the wall, the red light disapeared... tried the above, nothing happened, unplugged the phone then replugged it in... red light. I will try to get it repaired shortly along with a broken PS3, but i would rather a solution, as both my work and social life heavily depend on it. thankyou in advance

If you have given it a good charge and still have no luck, I would advise running a software repair. This can be done with the phone powered off:
    1. Download the PC Companion software from http://www.sonymobile.com/gb/tools/pc-companion/
and install it on your PC.
    2. Install and open PC Companion then select Support Zone.
    3. Phone Software Update.
    4. Start.
    5. Repair Phone
    6. Continue
    7. Accept data removal
    8. Next
    9. Wait for prepare
    10. Select Phone
    11. Follow the connection steps

  • Is it dangerous to look at the red light in the headphone jack?

I recently purchased an early 2009 model white MacBook. Today I was installing Windows on it and I noticed a red light coming out of the headphone jack. I thought there must be an LED in there to help you locate it in the dark. I was curious about it so I crouched down next to the computer and looked inside the jack to see what the deal was.
At the time I didn't know that there is such a thing as an optical audio jack. Obviously I now know that's what the red light was all about. Now I'm wondering if looking at that light could have injured my eyes. Is it a laser, an LED, or something else? Does anyone know how dangerous it is to look at that light? I looked directly at it from close range for perhaps 3-10 seconds, with eyeglasses on. I don't remember it seeming uncomfortable to look at.

Thank you both for your replies.
    GfulDedFan wrote:
To the best of my knowledge, that light shouldn't be on when the port is empty.
Yes, my understanding is that that light should only ever come on when there is a Toslink mini-plug adapter inserted into it (or at least a regular 3.5mm analog plug). However, like you said, I've seen a number of posts on the internet about that switch that turns on the digital output (red light) getting stuck in the on position (even without having plugged in a Toslink adapter). My understanding is that in my case the light came on because I was in the process of installing Windows and the driver for the audio hardware hadn't been installed yet.
    GfulDedFan wrote:
As far as harmful rays, I doubt that it would be harmful because I've read about this audio problem before but never with a cornea damage attached to it.
I did look inside the jack directly at the light. I think it might be the retina that would be at risk if anything, but in any case, I sure hope nothing was damaged.

The power for the lasers used for digital audio is very low.
    Is it a laser?
    JoeyR wrote:
Especially if you didn't find it uncomfortably bright.
I don't recall having a reaction that it was uncomfortably bright and then having to force myself to look at it. If it had seemed uncomfortable I don't think I would have continued to look at it.
I don't think I actually became concerned about it until I found out that the light is for digital audio output and wondered if it is a laser. Not that I recommend looking right at a bright LED either. But I wasn't expecting a bright LED either (let alone a laser) -- like I said, my first thought was that there must be an LED inside to make the jack easy to locate in the dark (I was in a darkened room at the time.

If you've ever, even very briefly, had a low power laser pointer hit your eye, you'd realize it is super bright.
Fortunately I haven't, but someone who did have a laser pointer aimed at their eye told me they noticed it when they felt a burning sensation on their eye.

Any damage would almost always be nearly immediate. If you haven't had a problem, you're fine.
Do you think any damage would be readily apparent right away, in the form of pronounced discomfort or noticeable vision problem?

  • My Curve won't turn on and no sign of flashing red light

    Hi!
I m all new to this blackberry forum thing....anyway i have a blackberry curve and all of a sudden yesterday it just stopped working. when i looked at the phone the screen was all white so i took out the battery and put it back on thinking that it will come back up but it didnt. Then i took the battery out again and plugged it to the USB(without the battery) because ususally it comes back up, but it still didnt. i put the battery again and plugged it to the USB thinking that it needs to charge but still no since of that flashing red light. I took the battery out and put my friends battery (cos he has a curve too) but still it didnt work. I did try holding down the power (red)button still not back on.
I just dont understand whats wrong with it, its not like i dropped it in the water or dropped it on the floor. I didnt do anything to it. It just stopped working.
Im really frustrated right now...I just dont know what to do..i hope someone can help me
    THanks!

I finally got my curve to work.  I just left it on the charger for a while and then it powered up. It seems if its a little low on power and I don't charge it relatively soon it shuts down and won't power up for awhile. I've also updated the software and cleaned out the junk files. It seems to be working fine now, go figure.

    Hey panda1111,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
    Thanks for the question.
Follow the steps below to try and bring the BlackBerry Z10 back to life:
Ensure that BlackBerry Link is installed on the PC or Mac OS
Ensure the computer has an internet connection.
    Launch the BlackBerry Link Software.
Note: A backup of the BlackBerry device should be tried before a reload.
Turn off the BlackBerry device. Make sure there are no flashing LEDs and that the LCD is not still being lit by the backlight. If there are any flashing LEDs, hold the power button for 15 seconds until the LEDs stop.
Connect the BlackBerry device to the computer.
When prompted with Cannot communicate with device, click Restore and then click yes allow the update to be downloaded and installed on the BlackBerry device.
If the restore button is not seen press the vertical dots in the lower right corner of BlackBerry Link and select disconnected device.  Highlight the disconnected device you are working with and attempt steps 4 to 6 again.
If the issue still persists, then I suggest contacting your network service provider for repair options.
Let me know if you have any more questions.
    Cheers.

  • IBook G4 with red light on charger

    Hello,
I have this problem of starting up my iBook G4. It doesn't turn on at all when I press the power button.
At first, I thought it was low on battery. So, I charged it and the red light is on no matter how long I charged it. May I know what does the red light represents?
    Does anyone encounter this problem?
    Thanks in advance, guys.
    Regards

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
I don't know if this will even be relevant to your situation, but there is an article which talks about the red light with regard to powerbooks:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=18241
One question would be whether this battery and charger worked properly in the past, or if one of them has been replaced. The article made it sound like some batteries and chargers do not work together, and if you replaced one or the other, there might be some incompatibility.
Hopefully someone who really knows about this will post back. I don't have any personal experience with this--I just remember reading about it in this article.
    Good luck!

  • FP-AO Channel Error (Red Light)

I have a FP-AO-210 voltage output.  Power and Ready lights are solid green, but channels 0 and 1 are lit solid red.  The other channels are all clear, however, I am not able to get voltage out of any channel.  Could 0 and 1 be affecting the rest of the unit, and can they be reset. Thanks.

    Dear Jason,
Is the status light on your controller blinking? The Operating Instructions say the following about the red light:
Each channel on the FP-AO-210 has a monitoring circuit that detects the amount of current flowing into (sinking) or out of (sourcing) the channel. If this value exceeds the maximum allowable (1 mA with no external supply; 10 mA with external supply), the circuit lights a red STATUS indicator for each affected channel, reports the error to the network module, and adjusts the output voltage so that only the maximum allowed current flows. The error is reported before the output is adjusted. The indicator may start to light dimly as the limit is approached.
That said, I have had issues when the TB-1s haven't been connected all the way, so try squeezing them together. To reset the channels, power cycle your controller. Have a great day!
    Sincerely,
    Marni S.

  • IPhone dead and won't charge - strange dim red light

    Good morning,
I was talking with my sister last night when my IPhone phone shut off.  I assumed that my battery died so I put it on the charger.  When I went back to get my phone off the charger I noticed that it did not charge at all.  I tried doing a reset holding down the home key and the shut off key together and it still won't turn on.  I left it on the charger overnight and this morning it is still dead.  I noticed this morning in the dark that I can see a very low dim red light by the ear piece speaker at the top of the phone.
At this point, I am at a complete loss.  I have no idea what to do.  We leave on vacation tomorrow and at this point, I have no phone.  Very scary for me since we are going to Florida and my oldest daughter is going to California.  I need to be in contact with her while she is gone.    Any help and good news is much needed!
Thank you so much for taking time to read this post!
    Sincerely,
    Angela

I would say when an iPhone normally dies it when plugged in does eventually give you an icon like an empty battery indicator then later I would say it turns on with an apple. If your under warrenty or with any extended warrenty insurance. I would call Verizon and say that your phone won't turn on at all and you want a replacement . It should take a day to get or go to apple and ask to replace.

  • Blinking red light while in docking base

What does this mean? I don't think it is charging because it will do this all night. Used to be just fine. I haven't been able to find any discussion around a slow blinking red light on the Shuffle...it flashes on and off at about .5 Hz
Ideas? Tried it on a bunch of computers and even a wall charger. Is the battery done? (At only 9 months!)

well, i sort of managed to get the shuffle to an apple authorized repair centre here in bangalore, india where they infact had the firmware updated to the latest and since the charge indicator was showing a red, the executive at the shop suggested that the unit was really low on charge and needed a minimum of 4 hours of charging. Upon charging the unit for more than 6 hours or so, the charging indicator still blinks red(when charging). i am able to play songs for the time-being but it seems the green light is totally conked out.
does anyone know of a repair shop of ipod shuffle in india. the apple dealer was saying its best to discard the shuffle when having problems like this since its best to go in for a new shuffle. i do have another shuffle that cant be repaired:(

  • Red Light On Next to Verizon Logo

I have a steady Red light on my Incredible 2 next to the Verizon logo. Had this phone over 2 years - never saw this light before, nor can I find ANYWHERE what the heck this means. I've tried resetting. Also, battery is draining very quickly. This came on suddenly.

KinquanaH_VZW what in the world would the charging port have to do with the proximity sensor?  Not to mention other chargers and outlets?  Like I suggested to lasinah_vzw please read the OP thoroughly before attempting to answer a question.  The OP clearly states that the light is to the LEFT of the Verizon logo, whereas the notification light (which blinks orange when the battery is low, and is solid orange when the device is charging) is in the speaker grill, to the RIGHT side of the phone.  I also find this disturbing that I have already addressed this and you also make the same incorrect suggestion.
