Redcode files need to be rendered.

I'm importing some QT proxies of some Red material we just shot, and even though I have the Redcode codec installed, as well as the Red FCP 3 set installed, it's still making me render my timeline when I drop Red clips onto it. I have my timeline set to Redcode as well. Anyone know what my problem might be? Thanks.
Edit: I'm on FCP 7.

Hi Ram,
use the axis adapter. This offers a task mode where you can schedule an http task that polls a certain url and creates an async PI message out of the result. For further details refer to the axis FAQ note (SAP Note 1039369 FAQ XI Axis Adapter).
I have never tried this myself but have done multiple other cool thing with this adapter. Please let me know how it worked.

  • AVCHD clip's always needs to get rendered when inserting. Media info about .mts file attached

    Hi
I have previously discussed this problem in another thread. I have .mts files that I insert in a project (project preset set to PAL-AVCHD Full-HD)....when inserting i always need to render the clips and as many peole have mentioned, this should not be needed, instead PrEl should take care of this by itself..and it really sunds weird if it doesnt...
So, why is this happen...i get so frustrated when I have to re-render the clips all the time, since also - it takes a looong time for jsut tiny tiny clips ? I posted the hardware specs I have two days ago in this same forum, and it looks from the answers I got that this hardware should be enough for not having to wait several minutes to jsut add a 6 second AVCHD clip ?
Please look at below image that is a screenshot from MediaInfo about the details for my .mts file I'm trying to add - resulting in new rendering needed, plus the fact that it takes about 5 minutes to render it ??
Please, suggestion or solutions ? I'm lost...I got feedback yesterday that this is a known problem with both PrEl 8 and PrEl 9 ..that AVCHD clips needs to get rendered manually when they are added....i.e a known bug in these versions ?? Any experience ? How can I move forward, I have problems to understand that such bug should exist without anysolution and/or workaround since I see this as a feature that MUST work for people not getting crazy :-)
MediaInfo screenshot (click on image to get it to look better) BR /Helmut

    Hi Neale
many thanks for your time trying to help me out.....
Please see my answers below in bold, hope you and/or someone else can help me with some further answers
Are you opening a project created in PRE8 with PRE9? If yes, that is the most likely cause of the problem. Create a new PRE9 project and see if the same problems after you import the clip and save the project. No, I'm only working in Pr 8.0 - I have this problem as soon as I add a clip..not that into the different formats, just know that the best possible output from my camera (Canon HF10) should be AVCHD..thats why I added teh detailed info from "MediaInfo". can you tell from that info I'm correct, i.e that the .mts file is really AVCHD as expected ? Just to help me confirm that. So, I havent been using PrEl 9.0...another person two days ago told me that PrEl 9 also got similar problems as I reported for my PrEl 8.0 ?
When you first added the clip to your project did you receive any messages that the file was not suitable for the format? If so did you accept the offered preset? If you didn't start a new PRE9 project and this time accept the offer. No, I did not get any messages as all about the format. Occasionally I get something like "Do you want to fix the quality in the clip" ..cant recall exactelly what the message is, but its for sure nothing about the format
When you put it into the project, did you have a red line running the length of the timeline? If you do then your preset is not correct (this is purely PRE9. PRE8 always required rendering AVCHD footage).Yes, always when I add a clip I get this red line. If I understand everything correctly this means I have to hit ENTER key to create a preview file....thats my second problem - as soon as I do that, it renders the clip very very slowly although I should have prety good hardware (According to spec posted two days ago).
So, as a summary. Do you think that buying Premiere Elements 9.0 should get rid of this problem when adding AVCHD ? If that is the case, I feel I just want to be sure about this and that I will not experience the problem again. Can it not just be some setting that is, by default, not correct in Premiere El 8.0 that is causing this or is this really a known bug without fixes available from Adobe?

  • Livetype project file needs rendering???

hello, this may be a dumb question. but i was reading somewhere that livetype project files should play in real time w/o rendering. is this true?? is my 3 gigs of ram not enough for this to happen?? i have my settings on unlimited rt and it will not make it though a full clip w/o stopping to say that it dropped a frame. that actually leads me to another question. there is a check box in that dropped frame window that says " do not show again." should i check that. as long as im not printing to tape w/o rendering a couple dropped frames will not affect me, right?? if this is true i just answered my first question. so any info would be helpful. ive wanted to check that box, but have been unsure.( i am pretty new to FCP studio) thank you.

hello, this may be a dumb question. but i was

    Play where w/o rendering?
If you mean you can drop the .ipr into FCP w/o rendering a .mov then the answer is yes, although when you drop it in FCP you will need to render it there. The advantage of this is that if you want to make changes to the graphic you make those changes in LT and it updates in the FCP prooject. That's quicker than having to render .mov movies all the time. Of course the change will need to be rendered in FCP regardless.
As far as your other question, personally I always want to know when there are dropped frames. If you want to check the box though that's your choice, lots of folks work that way.

  • Why does ntsc QT file in ntsc QT sequence need to be rendered?

I have a feature in 5 reels. All reels have been converted from PAL to NTSC via Atlantis and imported into FCP. I'm on deadline to deliver a print and thought that since all clips in the timeline are NTSC and the Sequence is NTSC it should not need to be rendered. Unfortunately, they do need rendering and I don't think I will make it. Why is it asking to render? Can someone please help? Here are the settings and info below. Thanks in advance for any help.
Each reel is now an ntsc QT clip.
    Clip Properties;
    Frame Rate - 29.97
    Frame Size -720 X 486
    Compressor -DV/DVCPRO - NTSC
    Pixel Aspect - NTSC - CCIR 601
    Here are the
    Sequence Properties
    Vid Rate - 29.97
    Frame Size - 720 X 480
    Compressor - DV/DVCPRO - NTSC
    Pixel Aspect - NTSC - CCIR 601
    G4 Dual 1GHZ   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   1.5 G RAM, FCP HD 4.5

did you change the settings in the: Sequence>Settings menu or in the: Final Cut Pro Menu?
If in the Final Cut Pro menu it will take effect the next time you create a sequence and will not change the current settings.
    good luck.

  • Why does some video need to be rendered in FCE 4 before I can work on it?

I've been trying to get a handle on FCE 4 because it's very different than iMovie '08. I have a bunch of content in iMovie that I'd like to mess with in FCE 4, so I exported from iMovie as FCE XML and imported in FCE. There is some video that I re-encoded to Quicktime from ASF and it seems to need to be rendered before it will show up in the Canvas in FCE 4. FCE shows this content as DV/DVCPRO - NTSC under "Compressor" in the browser. Other stuff that was taken off my Sony HDR-SR7 is available in FCE 4 without any problems. This shows up as Apple Intermediate Coded in the browser.
What's the deal with rendering anyway? Why does FCE need to "render" video to add things like effects when iMovie can add effects, etc at will with no "rendering" required?

FCE can do certain effects on the fly without rendering. Some more elaborate transitions, like 3D wipes, require too much processor time to do them in real time. My understanding is that Macs with greater on-board processing power do more of these effects in real time, while slower machines must render.
iMovie can do these effects on the fly because it's working with far less information. Think of iMovie works in the DV format while FCE works in the DV/DVCPRO-NTSC format. It's too subtle a name difference but the reality is quite different. It's like editing still pictures in compressed, lossy JPEG format vs. uncompressed TIFF format. Think about how long it takes your computer to open a photo of say, 8x10" 300 dpi in TIFF vs. that same file in JPEG. Well, that's what FCE has to do. It's working in the video equivalent of TIFF -- 30 frames per second. So there's a greater demand on your processor by a factor of 10. You can see this in action in Quicktime. Save a raw video import 720x480 in .dv and then in DV/DVCPRO-NTSC format and then play it back. The .dv will probably play smoothly while the DV/DVCPRO-NTSC (.mov) will hang up on play-back. It's just too much for your process to display all of those full resolution images so rapidly. And if you look at the two images side-by-side (particularly titles) you'll see how sharp and clear the .mov file is compared to the compressed .dv file.
    Hope this helps.

  • How Come Some Clips Need To Be Rendered

    Hi,
I have several projects open, one is from standard def DV tapes and the other is from a FCP learning tutorial. When doing 3 way color correcting the project from the DV tapes needs to be rendered after changes while the tutorial files don't need rendering. I looked at the source file types for both and they are Quicktime movies. Why does one need rendering?
    Thanks in advance.

Quicktime is just a wrapper that contains many many CODECS. What is the codec of the tutorial footage? If you mix the formats on the timeline, one format won't require rendering, where the format that is different will.

  • Every single clip needs to be rendered suddenly

Hello, I am a photographer that has now been thrust into shooting a lot of video due to my 5dmkii. I have been converting my footage with mpeg streamclip to pro res 422 and then editing it in fcp with no problems. Suddenly, final cut is requiring me to render every single clip I drop into the timeline. I can't figure out what is going on for the life of me. Oh, I have a macbook pro with 6 gigs of RAM too so its not my computer (that I know of). Thanks for the help!

Hi there - we need more info than just your hardware.
When you say "no problems" in reference to how you were editing before, have you changed something since then? Camera? Files?
What are your sequence settings? If they do not match your clip settings, they will need to be rendered.
When you drop your clips in the timeline, does it ask to convert the sequence settings to match the clip settings? If it does, you should click "yes".
Are you sure you are conversion settings are correct?
    Let's start with those.

  • Why does it need to be rendered?

MBPro, FCS 6.02, captured clips with a Kona card to Pro Res HQ. Created a three clip multiclip and everything was fine with my MBP. Last week, I had to do a clean install of my MBP and now, when I play the multiclip, it plays fine when collapsed but when I uncollapse it to make changes, it says I need to render. I checked my source material to match the sequence settings and it does. However, when I mouse over the render bar, it says the video needs to be rendered. The strange thing is that when it is uncollapsed and I hit play, the blue render screen is up. When I stop, the three angles in the viewer pop up and jump to the actual playhead spot.
    Any ideas?
    Jeff

  • All media I drop to timeline needs to be rendered, what's wrong?

So here is as much detail as I can give about my problem.
I have a new Mac Book Pro. I just installed Final Cut Studio 2.
I am editing mp3 sound files and .MPEG video files that I modified from .MOD files.
No matter what media I drop into my timeline or how i drop it the footage needs to be rendered (so say's the red line). Funny part is I can play through the clips but they drop frames.
All other times I have used FCP I only needed to render effects.
I have changed RT playback to dynamic and have the files stored on my hard drive camera which recorded the video. I have also tried storing files on the hard drive and a USB with same results.
    Is this a memory issue?
    All advice is welcome.

FCP doesn't work with MPEG video files nor MP3s. You need to convert the MPEGs to a format the FCP works with, like DV/NTSC...and the audio to AIFF 16/bit stereo files. You can use Compressor for both of these types.

  • AIFF's imported are always out of sync and need to be rendered!!!!!

I have had this problem for years, has anyone figured out hoe to get sound files that are in sync in pro Tools and in Sound Track Pro to be in sync in FCP??
This is the strangest thing that you can not import files into a PAL session without a red line needing to be rendered and without the audio drifting!!
    Any ideas? Thanks, mark

If the originals are coming from CD's they are 44,100 kHz.
Resample in Soundtrack Pro or convert in QuickTime Player.
Your location says you are in LA. Why are you working in in PAL?
I know that things need to be at 48K this would not matter anyway if it was 44.1 FCP would do the conversion and not make it out of sync in an NTSC Timeline, but a PAL timeline FCP screws with the sound file. The files came from pro Tools, the industry standard should mixing.
I put them through Sound Track Pro and it did not help.

  • What files need to be backed up to make sure film project is safe?

Editing a feature film using Premiere Pro, Audition, Speedgrade, and possibly After Effects?  My question is what files do I need to backup to make sure the film project is safe in the event that the computer and hard drive both break.  Editing on a computer, with footage stored on external hard drive.  Will use a separate 2nd hard drive for the files to be backed up.
I know I need to backup the .pproj Premiere pro files backed up.  I know I need to backup the footage shot (both video and audio files) backed up.  I recently learned that I need to backup the files created by Audition, when I send an audio clip from Premiere to Audition and back to Premiere for audio editing.
So my question is this: what other files need to be backed up?  If I round trip to from Premiere to Speedgrade and back to Premiere, is there a file created that I need to back up?  If I do a round trip from Premiere to After Effects and back to Premiere is there a file that needs to be backed up?  Are there any other files that need to be backed up?
My goal - back up all files needed, so if I need to resurrect the project after computer and hard drive break, that I will have all files necessary to continue editing, and that no footage, or edits, or color corrections, or audio edits will be lost at all.
    Thanks in advance.

Hey there Matt, nice to "see" you here too!
I can answer one question directly: when round-tripping PrPro/Sg/PrPro, the only place Sg files "changes" is back in the PrPro project file. Essentially, its designed to function much like perhaps a plug-in "within" PrPro. So that part is one of the nifty things of the Direct-Link PrPro/Sg. Now something I'm curious about in your request is how the other folks with LARGE project back things up whilst working. I know they do not archive the previews & cache, but ... with a large project ... can/does it save time to backup those files also when you do get a crash/corrouption. Is it faster to get back working if you backup the cache/previews?
You note wondering where to store the outputs of Audition work-sessions. I put them in the "main" projects folder-tree. I know others feel this is "content" and put them in with the video/graphics folder-tree. I started doing it this way, but now ... wonder if the other is "cleaner" though the difference may be more of intellectual curiosity than having any actual affect on diddly. Note, as I've got separate discs for each part of vid work ... programs/system, cache & previews, projects, footage/graphics, renders ... that does influence having separate folder-trees per project on separate drives. If the project & content files are all on one drive, well ... that's simpler to backup/archive.
Video projects are so space-hogging these days ... "footage" just gets bigger you know! ... and projects more complex. Planning for both in-work backups and continual movement of material from project inception to archiving it off the "working" station is a must, as you are clearly aware. There are many different layouts folks have chosen or simply need to use for their workstation disc layout. This can have some effect on project "stage" planning also.
For those with a "hot" workstation with say a 4/5 disc RAID system for projects/footage/previews/cache so everything is on one big "system", I suspect everything can just live in appropriate folders under a project name to begin with. Backups and Archiving is pretty simple ... use a good backup program to copy & CHECK the the project master folders with sub-folders to your backup/Archive option/s, then delete off the working system (when Archiving).
And as noted here, there, and elsewhere ... putting all the "project" files & their assorted bits & pieces in one main folder per project, and then all footage/graphics/etc. "content" material in a joint folder-tree on the drive *that* lives on for working purposes make backing up & archiving/storing things much simpler. I've seen all sorts of things done afterwards but the simplest just seems to be collating the "project" files folders and the "assets" (content) files/folders under a general project name folder

To have this scenario developed , do we have any other  option than the Proxy ?
My understanding is as follows : File --> SAP PI --> Proxy

    Hi Ravi,
As suggested by Inaki, you can use proxy communication in recever.
but you can also use the below
    FILE -----> PI -------> PROXY
                                  RFC
                                  IDOC

  • Audio needs to be rendered every time

I did a project this week which required me to change my sequence settings to PAL, 44.1KHz audio. I since changed back the sequence settings to easy setup DV NTSC, so I shouldn't have any problem with new sequences. Even so, any time I drop a QT movie into a new sequence, the audio needs to be rendered just to hear it. These are movies that play fine in QT. They are DV-NTSC movies with the audio rate at 44.1KHz. The latest is a project from iMovie; the audio rate on that project is 32KHz. Any setting suggestions so that I no longer need to render every imported clip?

I understand. I have the sequence settings at easy setup NTSC. When I bring in CD tracks, they are 44.1kHz and I recognize that they will eventually need to be rendered, but they should at least play and not give me a red bar.
